  • The first generation 800 series intel core i7 processors are widely considered bad but what can they do in games if you pair them with an RTX 2070? Let us see what sort of bottleneck this old i7 really introduces in some of 2019's hottest games!

No issues with audio processing/rendering which I mainly use it for. I can create music with dozens of tracks of synthesizers and unlimited plug ins on each track and the cpu usage never spikes.

    Im running a i7 870 (overclocked to 3.8) with a 1060 and can definitely say these older i7's are still very much capable of modern day gaming. Considering im able to run mw 2019, apex, even dragon quest 11, all at 60 fps stable pretty easily, from high-ultra settings (mw around medium and high), says alot.
    Id imagine the 860 isnt too far behind so you should be able to get 60fps in most games on low-medium at worst. Definitely pick it up either if you're on a super budget rig. i got my 870 in a budget gtx 670 2gb rig for only $150 2 years ago....nowadays when i think about it...just wow, So you never know.

    As I am waiting for Ryzen 3 I am currently using the xeon x3440 at 4Ghz with a GTX 1080ti. Why? because at 1440p ultrawide the difference between my cpu and a 9900K is still marginal. I got way more FPS with the upgrade from VEGA 64 to GTX 1080ti. I am now hitting 70-120FPS in Apex Legends where before there was a 20 FPS decrease across the board.
    However it is interesting to see that with lowering the setting or res FPS won't increase... not even a bit.

    I ordered my I7 860 from Newegg in 2009 along with MSI GD-80 Motherboard and have been using it ever since. Originally had an ATI 4870(which I had to change out after Windows 10 3rd update due to no driver support for 2 monitors by AMD), had to add a 1050 and had 4TB of photos. .Never had a downtime with this system since I built it. Still takes care of everything I need it to do. Can play any game I want but do not do a lot of that as 3D graphics makes me nauseous after a few minutes of play. Added a SSD and a USB 3 add in card and changed case to a Corsair 200R, Everything else is the same as 10 years ago.

    Lack of avx(2) instruction sets is a question mark for me, playing future games as few of them from ubisoft, if i remember correctly, require avx. Imo its dead platform, sandy bridge is minimum for budget gaming if you expect some life in the future.

      Sandy isn't much better, but certainly is much more expensive if you're looking for a proper 8 thread CPU that can be overclocked. Ivy was a step up, pce 3.0 and lower power usage, that means you don't get massive stuttering on gpu's with low vram.

    • @ElementalSk81
      @ElementalSk81 4 роки тому

      Coming from someone with a 1060 6gb and a i7 870 over clocked to 3.7, id say it all depends on your needs. For me personally, as long as i can get 60 fps with medium-ultra settings, on my 23 inch 1080p monitor, im good....which my rig manages pretty reliably so no complaints here. I imagine your 860 shouldnt be too far from mines, but the 860 might be holding it back abit.
      If i was in your position, i would either stick with the 860 for the time being if you manage to oc it abit and can settle with 45-60 fps in most modern games 900-1080p res....Or you could upgrade cpu to a simple ryzen 1600-2600x cpu ( whichever your budget allows), and be done with it lol. Th BIGGEST problem with our systems, is that we're still on ddr3, so youd have to upgrade the motherboard, and ram aswell to be able to upgrade cpu. Its a damn hassle for sure, hence why im content with my rig for atleast another yr or 2, before making the big switch.
      Best of luck with whatever you decide though, honestly im sure you're rig has alittle bit of life left in it before you make the big switch.
      Edit: Just realized too, that your 1060 might actually be a problem aswell since you cant go over 3gb of vram, so graphic options are limited big time. Ive noticed many games pretty easily going over 3gb vram once you raise a couple of the visuals settings up. I also remember reading somewhere that the 3gb version is also abit weaker overall compared to the 6gb, so that may be a reason why im able to maintain 60 with my 6gb.

    I still run mine to this day, I have to say this CPU was ahead of it time. I bought mine back in 2010 and have been using it for 11 years now never really gave me hassle. Mine runs warzone on medium with 80fps and assetto corsa 69fps ultra with mods, I have also overclocked mine and it runs at 3.46GHz not messed with volts or anything apart from core clocks. It temps are around 30 to 40 on ideal and running warzone with medium and the CPU being on 100% 69C peak never seen it go higher temps and I play it around 4 to 5 hours a night. Also my office is in the attic so it gets 32C in there and she keeps going, this cpu is really good it’s not as fast with ram speeds ETC but it is still a good work horse. My specs are I7 875 K 3.46GHz 4 sticks of 1600MHz DDR3 Ram from Corsair, ASUS P7P55D-E motherboard, Renier heat sink Christmas edition, EV3A 750 GQ Power supply and Radeon sapphire rx 590 nitro 8gb+ .

    As someone who used to main an i7 870 with an RX 480. my FX 8320 at 4.5ghz at times was quite a bit better than my old i7 870 or Xeon x3470. I didn't win the lottery on my i7 870. and only got 3.5ghz out of it, tried 4.0ghz. or anything higher than 3.5, tried different voltages, etc. couldnt do much, but my FX 8320 OC'd like a champ. and is much faster in alot of cases vs my old i7 870. I remember going to the GTX 770 from my 660 Ti on it, and it was quite the difference back in 2016. but then a bit later, got an RX 480, and alot of the times, the fps didnt feel much different. But then my P55 board started having issues with my ram slots, and i'd have to swap the Dimms out and re arrange them til the board was happy booting with it and actually doing dual channel instead of locking to single channel. but ended up getting a Gigabyte AM3+ board with an FX 8320 as a christmas gift from my father since my main was fucking up and wouldnt run with my RX 480 anymore oddly. and now, alot of my stuff runs so much better. And seeing your last video on the FX 8320 or 8350, it seemed to handle the Radeon VII like a champ. not too bad at 1080p. but was damn good at 1440p and 4k. and seeing the 2070 at 1080p do that on an 860. i didnt think there was that big of a difference given i dont own some of these games yet. but holy crap...
