I read up on him on the wiki and I like how there's implications that seven is considered the most dangerous doctor due to his nature of plotting and scheming.
That rep that people attribute to the Doctor in NuWho? I guarantee you a majority of that is 7’s doing. That whole “oncoming storm, bringer of darkness” thing. I love 7 to pieces but he’s honestly the only incarnation of the Doctor that I could see tricking the Daleks into destroying Skaro.
Not just that - he has the balls to see situations like that through to the end without hesitation. Seven was a devious little bastard who got shit done no matter the cost. Yes, he was charming. Yes, he was kind. But when the chips are down, he won't pander unless there was a definite (better) alternative. If not? Well, you don't get called a chess-master if you don't know how to sacrifice your pawns.
I think he realized the weakness his 4th incarnation showed by not doing away with the Daleks when he had the chance to do so. This was his way of dealing with the guilt he held for the destruction of all the civilizations the Daleks came across after Genesis.
@@connorboyce9736It was the other way around. 7th Doc was tying up loose ends because he didn't believe his future incarnations would have the guts -- as opposed to feeling remorse for past actions. You could project the idea that 'not having the guts' may be witnessed during past events (like 4th Doctor not comitting genocide), but Remembrance doesn't feel like that at all. In fact, the only hesitation is 7 chatting with the coffee shop owner before deciding that destroying Skaro is the right move - and he doesn't flinch once the decision is made. In fact, the audience is left unaware of that end-game decision until you've seen it happen and re-watch the coffee scene.

War Doctor didn't come until Eleven+. Above speech was from Ten, a Doctor who had various episodes and moments that directly refer to (or copied) Seven. Davro's calling him destroyer of worlds (Seven destroying Skaro), Ten's speech to Wilfred smacks of how Seven casually talked a Supreme Dalek into killing itself (and that isn't the only time Seven has done this shenanigans - he abhorred violence, but had no problem manipulating others into doing it for him). One of Ten's episodes was a somewhat re-telling of a Seventh Doc novel. Even 11th Doctor took a moment straight out of Curse of Fenric when he had to crush Amy's faith to save her - one of the best moments of Seven being in Curse of Fenric when he did that to Ace decades ago. TLDR - there is no reference to the War Doctor there. Even the Doctor (any incarnation) want to forget the War Doctor. It is blatantly a Seventh Doctor reference.
@@tost6956 I wouldn't say that. I think it worked really well into the story of how 10th felt during the end of his life. I believe that certain references to past Episodes can be done very well, if they are genuine and serve the story correctly, instead of being, "Hey remember this! Remember this was a thing!" that I saw a lot of in Matt Smith's era.
| always found Sylvester McCoy completely underrated as the Doctor he had the obvious Doctor traits of helping the underdogs but there was also a brutal coldness to him where you could never know if he could be fully trusted. He had a lot more depth to his portrayal than many other Doctors.
Love it. Sylvester McCoy's Doctor is my most favorite one, old or new. It always bugged me, given the number of times he's talked his way our of danger that he just walks out of the TARDIS and gets blown away by a random street gang. Couldn't the writers have given him a better end that that?
You're looking at it the wrong way. Yes, it's a bit silly from the writers perspective, BUT... It actually makes total sense for that incarnation. 7th was a master planner - the chess master. He'd pick his fights and have plans made long before he even arrived to say hello, and when things didn't go his way, he would have the perfect speech to get himself out of trouble. So, how do you deal with a Timelord that is always 2 steps ahead of you? You throw them into randomness. The Master bust the TARDIS and forced a landing. 7th clearly assumed he knew where he was and was confident enough to not even look - then wham.
It just kind of bugged me because it happens so close to the voice over saying something about being more careful in his old age. Yeah, so careful that he doesn't even check outside for danger and just walks out into an unknown situation. I could almost forgive it if that line has been cut or something. I will say I have 'made peace' with him not being able to talk himself out of the situation (even despite all the times this Doctor has had guns pointed at him and done just that) because he didn't have time to say much of anything. It still is a bit of an embarrassing end (like in that one Christmas special when the Doctor thinks he's meeting a future self and says something about how embarrassing it would be if he had regenerated because he slipped in the street or something ). Of course, given that Seven started his life because Six fell and hit his head in a TARDIS crash so I guess embarrassing in, embarrassing out. :)
He was careful, yes, but here he's alone and worrying about the master. He was also very depressed at this point in his life, so he'd be a lot less careful than his usual self, especially without a companion there to worry over. As far as I'm concerned, he had a plan - one that got wrecked by the Master busting the TARDIS - so he walks out into the unknown and gets taken out by randomness. Could it be better? Of course - but it's a fitting end to the chess-master, albeit a poorly executed one. As for 6's regeneration, that was remedied by Big Finish in 6's "Last Adventure" story.
I reckon 7 had a plan, but it involved him leaving the TARDIS, perhaps to return later once the Master had left, but one that obviously got cut short by his getting shot (non-fatality but still painful) and subsequent death by surgery. As for why he didn't check the scanner, well, the scanner is near the console. Who's to say the Master didn't break that too.
Well....from the Virgin New Adventure novels from the '90s, it's implied that 7 forced the regeneration (basically killing the 6th Doctor so he could take over). It's very timey-wimey-wibbly-wobbly and only implied though. (And of course, this was a couple years before the TV movie came out.) Also, that TV movie was very much a written by committee script, and it really shows. (For one instance you have the Doctor getting killed like that, for another wasting a brilliant portrayal of the Master by Eric Roberts by forcing him to be a Terminator clone for most of the story.)
