There is a video of Nicola making her recipe in the Doctor Who cookbook, which is a cheesecake, with Colin. But she changed the recipe for him because Colin Baker is allergic to cheese and instead called it “Doctor Please Cake.” It’s so sweet!
The soft, affectionate way Colin Baker delivered "Don't know. Shall we find out?" shows that his Doctor has grown. We actually saw hints of this softer side in his first story, even though it was overshadowed by his regeneration trauma and confusion as well as the scene where he tried to strangle Peri in a fit of madness. It's so unfortunate that he never completed his character arc onscreen. If not for Michael Grade sabotaging the show, Colin Baker would be one of the most celebrated Doctors.
That scene from Mysterious Planet is one of my favourites because by the time of Trial, they really were so close and affectionate with one another. Michael Grade really is public enemy number one for Doctor Who fans 😔
Where I do agree about Michael Grade being a bit of a [insert swear word here], if I remember correctly, Colin Baker’s era was doomed to fail from the get go due to a disagreement in the writing department. One of the head writers at the time was vehemently opposed to Baker taking up the role of the Doctor due to him being mostly type casted as the villain before his tenure began. Honestly I think it’s a great shame because his growth as a character could have been great to bare witness to but sadly it was not meant to be (only other Doctor I feel was given a hand this bad but for different reasons is Capaldi)
@@saltheirishgitAlso a lot of lies about Baker being said behind the scenes as I recall. May be incorrect in that regard, but I think Colin and Chris Eccleston would be great friends, due to all the crap they dealt with.
It’s quite amazing how quickly you can forget just how funny and lovely this pairing is. When you think of 6 and Peri, most people immediately think of the strangling scene and Peri’s ‘death’, but in between there were lots of very cute moments of fun banter and charm between them. The way they both seem to enjoy playfully teasing each other is actually remarkably similar to the way we’d later see modern doctors act with their companions
A man who dresses like that is not afraid of anything. Even risking his life to keep his TARDIS out of the hands of Cybermen. With the TARDIS literally having a consciousness of her own, I'm surprised that it didn't choose the cat pins he wears as a pet name.
@@kyrauniversal Haha! That's a great explanation. However I always felt sorry for Baker because he didn't have a say on the design (resulting in him hating it),unlike most other Doctors :(
_Damn,_ Colin Baker’s casting was a stroke of genius even if it was a decade or two ahead of his time, and absolutely a breath of fresh air. You could even say he overcompensated and ended up in the wrong time zone!
I can see that! Most - if not all - companions who travel with two incarnations of the Doctor tend to become closer to their second (4/Sarah, 5/Tegan/Nyssa/Adric, 6/Peri, 7/Mel, 10/Rose, 12/Clara)
@@PhoebeClothierwell, i would partially disagree with Mel. Although Seven and Mel have some heartfelt moments in Time and the Rani, the show didn't really do much with Mel's character (luckily Big Finish did). Hopefully she gets more character development on Series 14. For Seven, Ace was his true companion, like Ten with Donna. Honestly, Rose was Nine's companion. Kinda fell out when she was with Ten.
@@MatthewCYN15 Fell out when she was with 10? They had the only Doctor/Companion paring actually become a thing in all of Who as far as I know. Yes, the other 10 was a mortal clone, but still had the same memories and characteristics and such. Of all the companions that have fallen for the Doctor, only Rose gets to ride away into the sunset with one. That Peri Brown, an “American” in the 80’s, who is maybe 20 years (college) would know Beau Brummell as an icon of style - questionable. Sixth would have had more chance comparing himself to Adam Ant, or one of Duran Duran. 😉 Good montage!
As an American kid in the 80's, I saw this at 12 and had absolutely no idea who he was talking about, or if I even heard the name correctly. I forgot it. These 2 are so cute together. And they're still friends decades later so this chemistry comes from a genuine bond, not just acting.
Now they're back in Tales of the TARDIS 😁😁
