The protests started because the govt is locking them into their homes/buildings. 10 people died in an apartment fire because of having to get through barricades and locked doors.

Again I must agree with ol' George. He could clearly see the vacant consumerism that became a weird, so-called "patriotism". When I was in the USAF, I learned from other Airmen that Mr. Carlin was also in the Air Force.
He served 2 tours of duty, which in his case was a total of 8 honorable years. I very much admire him for that. That's as much as I honor my Dad, who also had two tours, between USAF and Air National Guard. He told me of how his squadron was on high alert during the Bay of Pigs. His concerns about our family, which by that time included 4 very young children (1962).
To understand the Chinese protest, even if we ignored the government monitoring QR code part, is that it essentially is a tax on the poor. Since you are required to have a test at least once a day, not covered by your health insurance, it essentially forced people to pay for testing companies, which in China's case are mostly state owned.
While the rich can afford this "tax" and off from work, the poor cannot and small business are taking the most hit, some even committed suicide.

To repeat what I said yesterday: Nick Fuentes once said that the United States is a Christian nation & everyone whom isn't Christian (about 1 in 4 Americans) should convert or leave. Even with ignoring the Constitution & U.S. history, logistically how would the government enforce this to over 80 million people? Just after WW2 (mostly summer 1945) the Czechoslovakia forced most of Czech Germans to leave. 2,5 million people were moved which was roughly 1/4 of our population and it was a very ugly business with violence, theft and overall brutality as they were collectively seen as collaborating with nazis which was not universally true.

“I am a manila envelope, taped to a beige wall.” And probably splattered with ketchup and a half-eaten Big Mac.
Stew the entire leftover turkey carcass, you've already mostly removed the meat, for two hours to make a stock. Remove, cool, remove remaining meat. Make a dark roux with 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup AP flour, then stir in chopped celery, onion and bell pepper, lastly adding minced garlic for a minute or two. Stir in that gorgeous stock heating to a gentle boil which will thicken, and put meat back in. Season with S & P, garlic powder, onion powder and some Cajun seasoning. I add sauteed smoked sausage and some shrimp! Serve over rice. We ate the last of our turkey gumbo today after sharing it with family members and my ex. He lives alone now so we try to include him. 🥰. Enjoy! Houma, Louisiana.

You forgot to mention how people were locked into their dwellings - or wherever they happened to be, such a wet market. People had their doors welded shut. A lot of people have starved to death because they weren't allowed to leave where they were locked down. People have burned to death in buildings because they couldn't get out (because they were locked in). People who have COVID are basically being sent to jail. Some are never seen again. People who protest are beaten - Sometimes to death. Sometimes they disappear and are never heard from again. It's worse than what I've relayed. It's awful there.
This has been (partially) debunked already. Local authorities have been welding shut alternative entrances/exits, so that they can control influx and outflux through a single entrance/exit.
Still pretty terrible from a fire safety perspective, mind, but residential buildings in China have never scored highly on that index…

So I just got off the phone with my grandma who lives in a retirement home in China. She basically told me "Don't listen to them! [referring to western news] We're ok!"
Which for me translates to "the censorship game is still strong and dangerous". While there's no denying that these protests are significant, there's still a lot of support for the CCP from people like my grandma not because they actually support the CCP, but because the alternative, political instability, is a horrifying and recurring disaster in Chinese history that no one wants to be a part of, least of all the elderly who have lived through at least one of them.

Speaking as someone who spent their childhood in a Communist-run country, it might not be censorship. Some people and some regions might really be OK, while other regions and people might be living in hell.
That's one of the reasons people don't rise up easily in totalitarian regimes. Everyone thinks their experience is everyone's experience. That's why it's hard to get any information across, there's a lot of mistrust and misunderstandings.

CHINA lockdowns: a friend of mine is chinese and she said that it goes even as far as -- people being trapped in a building that was on fire and ended up dying because service personnel could not reach them because of the lockdowns. : ( she told me this before the news was recently talking about the protests there.
