Things I love about the Pebble:
1. It is so easy to read off the screen in direct sunlight
2. No smudges on the screen as it's not touch
3. Buttons! Yes, I love that when I have to change a song for example I just click one button instead of using the touch screen like other devices. This is so much better, especially when I'm driving, it makes changing music on my phone totally safe.
4. Long battery life! I recharge my Pebble Time every Sunday night, so good.
is it worth it?
Benjamin Bee Yes. I'm already thinking how in about two years I will buy another Pebble. Another thing that I love about it is they have great support and they constantly bring updates. They really seem to care about their customer base. Hopefully this trend continues.
Hey, just thought I'd let you know it's not actually an e ink display. They brand it as an "e-paper" display but it's actually a low power LCD-type display.
I looked into this because I was really curious. You're both right. The pebbles use a low power Sharp LCD display that is a type of e-paper display. E-ink displays, like those found in classic Kindles, are monochromatic and are a different kind (read: subset) of e-paper. So he was wrong when he said it was e-ink, but was not wrong when he said e-paper :)
after trying the fitbit blaze, jawbone up3, and gear s2, I reluctantly tried the pebble time... after a week I loved it so much I sold it and bought the time steel... it's a fantastic device. I love it.
"Backlight in an OLED screen"
*glares at screen with discomfort*
***** It's not just an error because the pebble uses an ePaper display, it's an error because *OLED screens don't have a backlight*. Each pixel has it's own luminescence, AND can change it's own color.
+Tyler Eberhardt Yes. He's clearly not speaking from a script and simply made a goof. I suspect he's well aware that an OLED emits its own light and does not use a back-light. OTOH, I wonder if you realize that the each individual pixel on the Apple watch is either red, green or blue and does not change its color. The individual pixels only change their luminescence.
Jay Turberville ....ok
For those considering buying a Pebble watch.
Please keep these things in mind.
Smartstraps WILL allow NFC, Heartrate monitors, and other things that other smart watches might already have. Now think of it this way, if you don't want to use those things, you don't have to pay for them. But if you do, the Pebble is already pretty cheap so paying more for the Smart strap is not that big a deal when the Apple watch for example, is already $350 minimum.
There IS a pebble application for Pebble Time & Android that allows users to use "Ok Google." to search Google, and perform other functions as you would on an Android phone when one says "Ok Google." This application is called "Ok Pebble"
There is a UA-cam video that shows how this application works. Just search Ok Pebble.
SecondHandRelief OK Pebble is just a concept. Plz
No it does work. It's just a bit unconventional at the moment. I know developers who could easily make OK Pebble a reality but the fact of the matter is that nobody has decided to do it aside from the guy who is trying but not doing as good of a job. It's going to happen one way or another.

One of the MOST thorough review EVAAAARRR!! How do you feel about the new Pebble items that are coming out??
I definitely feel they did the right thing in using buttons and leaving touch
Which not only feel classic and battery boost factor
Thanks man! This is the best and most complete review I have found out there
Great video. I actually went for a pebble steel, I just prefer the form factor but I do like the colour screen
Great, solid review.
Thanks man.
Great review!!! And what is the pebble stand you used at the 1:02 mark called and where do you get one
"it's not as easy to use or as intuitive as a regular touchscreen but again that's not a big deal because the operating system on the pebble is so easy to use and specifically designed for those buttons it's pretty intuitive and it's not going to cause too much confusion for new users"
holy contradiction batman.
I don't see the contradiction, he said it's not AS intuitive as a touch screen, and later says it is still pretty intuitive though? Makes sense to me
Great review man. Gonna hit the subscribe button for tht
Are you still wearing the Pebble Time? I've been wearing/using the Pebble Time Steel for about a month and love it. What is the watch face you are using in your video?
Can someone please mention, that the pebble time is COMPLETELY OPEN SOURCE!?
That is awesome!
On their website, they offer free tutorials into basic C++ and Java, and have a beautiful webinterface with an emulator, so you can PROGRAM YOUR OWN WATCHAPPS!
That is the biggest pro for me, because as a programming beginner, this is a great opportunity to learn stuff, i couldn't do that with a samsung or apple watch.
Also, with those smartstraps, in combination with the open source, you can basically do ANYTHING. Maybe speakers, or add more buttons, or a heart rate monitor, solar panels or whatever you could imagine.
really? will have to check that out. thanks for the heads up!
***** You can easily develop apps in C++ or Java at www.cloudpebble,net and it syncs very easily with your phone, no need to install drivers or anything. Just all website-based.
+KVV4U7Z7R37SCHK3 thanks. pebble time steel arrived today, already been to cloudpebble, it's awesome.
Thanks for the great review. As a Pebble time user, I agree that pebble time is a very basic smart watch, but if you want great battery life, great outdoor visibility and a very simple notification system. This is the watch for you.
I owned the Pebble Time and Microsoft Band for about two months now, mainly use it for checking 1) time, 2) weather forecast, and 3) instant call notification. For running and sleeping i personally preferred to use the Microsoft Band. Hope this help.
+amiraseri There are standalone pedometers, and runtrackers that currently use the GPS of your phone, but we'll probably see a smartstrap for that. For sleeping, there currently are apps that track your sleep phases via movement (f.e. morpheuz), but i could imagine that with a heartrate-monitor-smartstrap, the accuracy could be improved even more.
You make the best reviews ever :)
I have an iPhone 6S. What smartwatch should I get? (I like the idea of this, but I'm not really retro or anything)
How's the back button feels when you pressed it? Mine is stiff unlike those 3 buttons on the right.
I'm so happy that Pebble have kept this watch simple… it's the simplicity that makes this watch so friendly to use… remember, it's only to inform you of messages and alerts and not enter the complex fiddling piece of frustration that other watches have tried to squeeze to much into a tiny device, that our sausage fingers can't navigate with… simple buttons rules over silly size touch screen in any of its seven day battery life!
Thanks A lot Dude Best review I found on the pebble time Plz Do More Reviews on pebble and steel Versions
I'm in a group text. How do these smart watches like this one handle these group texts especially when you get up to like 5 right after another. Does the watch notify you for each text?
Thank you for good coverage of pros and cons. At the moment I'm waiting for my steel version to be shipped from kickstarter campaign. Very excited as shipping are not far away now. It looks like steel have different glass on the front as plastic version. My reason to get pebble is simple, battery, basic notification, sleep telemetry instead wall hogging and time, for the rest smartphone is designed or tablet. There is also way to use voice control, connect Bluetooth headset or headphones and you can do everything with Siri or Google now without touching a phone. Regards to all mobile geeks.
hows the silver bezel and the screen? is it scratch resistance?
voice commands and things like that now exist with some new apps. even the original pebble can do voice reply via your phone's mic. apps have improved a ton in the last couple months
KickStarter Campaign? Shipping available?
What stand are you using in the video?
I actually love the display!
Hi, it's a great review, but I have a question, who goes the bluethoo connexion?
I have LG G Watch R and it's disconnect from the phone many times in a day, who goes the pebble time why this?
Is that an apple watch stand? Because I got the pebble a few weeks ago and I have been looking for a charging stand like that and have had no luck.
The display looks dim. Is it? I own Pebble Steel whose display looks AMAZING and CRISP in brightly lit rooms and outdoors. How does the display look indoors vs out on the Pebble Time? Better that the Pebble Steel? Thank you!
Hey ....can you help me up with OSX installing guide---it gets stuck on the apple logo ----keeps going like that---can't install please help
Whats the stand you're using in the thumbnail?
whats your camera for this video?
I have the original Pebble and love it
Love the watch but not too sure about the silicone strap. Changed it out with a leather one. Much better now.
Is there anyone who does an outdoors review, such as hiking, surfing or snow boarding with this watch or other smartwatches?
Buddy you rock I didn't know you UA-cam!!
I'm currently using a Microsoft Band 2, completely disillusioned by anything without a seperate strap as it's strap has broken so many times (warranty has been good 'so far').
Pebble Time 2 looks like it solves some of the issues mentioned in the video. What I've seen in smart straps looks like a great direction.
Was very keen on the Huawei Watch running Android Wear, but with the more premium look of the Time 2, I think my next smartwatch will be Pebble.
You should hold off of getting a pebble right now, just bought one and went on reddit to check the community and as far as I'm aware, pebble is in the middle of being acquired by fitbit and the fear widespread on there is that fitbit is only after the pebble ip and the knowledge of the os, but no intention on keeping the platform alive as it's the complete opposite of the fitbit business model.
hi there i just go my pebble wacht i was wonderring can you answer a call with the pebble smart wacht..thanks
yes
I have an iPhone and can't afford the apple watch but I want a decent smart watch and personally I don't like the pebble mainly because I can't reply to messages on iOS.
So is there any decent alternatives?
***** It is ok I have an s6 edge and an lg watch urbane now...
I'd like it if it would have a HR monitor and if it would be better for fitness
Maximo Chaio there's a watch band coming soon with a hr sensor
make sure you don't go too deep? it's 30 meter deep water resistance dude!
hey i got 2 questions about the pebble time, how water proof is it? can i go swiming with it in the ocean, and does my pebble have to be connected to my phone, can i play games on my pwbble when my phone is at home
+Epicwaffle 534 its 30m resistant so maybe not in the ocean.. yea you can play games on it without being connected though,,
+Epicwaffle 534 I'm on a swim team, and I swim with it on for 90 minutes 5 days a week. I've never had a problem.
Amazing :)
What game is that at 2:00 minutes? Thanks!
Sprint racer
Good review. Just an FYI - the voice commands don't work at all with iPhone, not just Siri. This was a deal breaker for me. I was a Pebble Time Steel Kickstarter buyer, but I cancelled the order realizing the Apple watch will meet my needs better. The only issue for me with the Apple watch (other than their VERY overpriced watch bands) is the battery, but I have never slept with a watch on so charging it side by side with my iPhone is my daily plan. No big deal. For me, although the Pebble Time is much more attractive than the prior Pebble watches, they will have to do better.
what's the name of that watch face in the thumbnail
Mondrian, it's a replica of a painting
Pinback? Nice!
Dude there's an app for OK Google support
+reilly hewitson Also, the developers are experimenting with google now and siri
1:45 apple time 😂
Answer please---
Pebbles have e-paper - NOT eink screens, for anyone who cares. He doesn't seem to understand the difference.
No RGB!!!!
I don't like the black one sunny, the red is the real deal. I have on too.# Vote me
140mah? whyyy?? make it 500 and it will last a month! such a waste..
Your arms are hairy
MrHD71 You must have never seen an adult man before
nielzdg No I was living 23 years under a rock since I was born.
MrHD71 Patrick?
nielzdg how u know
why don't they use up the bezel real estate ....god it annoys me
They needed to keep the screen the same size as the original pebble so the existing apps fit the screen. If you open one up there's defiantly no wasted space inside.
FRR ooor they could have had the OS scale the apps and watch faces to suite the newer/larger screen
Well that would be something to ask the Pebble Team, I'm just quoting what they said on Reddit and the Kickstarter
FRR ye, well at this point i think the pebble people think more about money and less about their consumers. There quality has dropped despite them having 10mil in their pocket.
Good review... But what's up with your body, arm, and neck shakes? It's like a child when they want something but aren't allowed it....
the pebble classic is way better than this and this looks ugly
the only difference is its more ugly than classic and it has color
+Raj Zimmerman Eh. I always thought the original pebble (which has been on my wrist every day for the last year and a half) was kind of clunky. I loved the functionality and didn't care how it looked, so it worked just fine for me. The new one is much sleeker and I'm SO glad they changed the design. I might be biased, though, as I have small to medium sized wrists so the larger size looked a bit awkward on me.
Apple watch so much nice...that thing is ugly
Clayton Ransehousen Nice, now you know wich one to buy ^^!!
user:unknown why would i buy something that is UGLY?
Your answer tells me that you are the perfect candidate to own an Apple Watch. You match perfectly the profile user they're focusing! Congratulations!
i have no use for a watch...but if i did you are right i would get an apple watch...to go with my awesome iPhone 6+. Might get one for my wife when the next model year comes out.
Clayton Ransehousen might as well buy the big gold apple watch cause you'll be wasting money either way... Just an opinion but there's no reason to have a dead watch on your hand cause you forgot to charge it for a day. Check out the Pebble steel or the Pebble Time steel if this doesn't suit your tastes they'll be a much better buy
Would you really pay for this ridiculous tamagotchi more than $250, just because it's not Apple? C'mon guys be serious!
Giora Sluzky Actually, as an IT guy, and the versatility and practicality of it to my daily routine is pretty great. It fits my needs in a way the Apple Watch fails to. It's not ridiculous, and it was only 200$ for me. Battery life is glorious.
