- The Time is the third effort from smartwatch pioneer Pebble. It’s easily the best Pebble yet, but is that enough to stand out?

I personally love the pixelated interface, mainly because Pebble isn't trying to hide it, bur rather they make use of it aesthetically
True
undercoverduck Very true.In fact they want it to be like a "retro style" interface.
Praveen Elango didnt know that tbh
It's like a Gameboy XD
Am I the only one here who like it more than the others wearable systems? Its retro design and light reflecting display.. So cool. Animations seem really smooth too
Enrico Maria Dal Compare I really like Pebble watches all the reviews I have watched dislike the old and new models. I purchased it on kickstarter just waiting for the email notice that it's shipping.
Enrico Maria Dal Compare You're not...I don't want a smartphone on my wrist, I want a watch that gives notifications for all my messages and apps, is waterproof, and lasts up to 10 days without needing a charge. The new voice features and color screen are icing on the cake. The screen allows for the watch to always be showing the time even when idle where others show nothing...All of those features and it doesn't even serve it's main purpose! It just reaches a certain point where it's just like...take your damn phone out already if something full-featured is so important. The price tag of $160 that I paid doesn't hurt either.
Enrico Maria Dal Compare Totally Agree with you! ;) you're not alone!
I feel the same way. I love the retro reflective display. Plus, I get to play Tetris wherever xD. Pretty stoked about replacing my Moto 360 though. The battery life seems to be getting worse and worse :(
Enrico Maria Dal Compare well i think the other watches r too bulky to fit under a shirt cuff. i am leaning towards a pebble. moto 360 just came out with wifi connectiivity. i think that is the future. u can get ur texts without having to lug ur phone around like a purse.
I really don't like the verge's aproach on anything . Their reviews are soulless!
I told generally !!
Boanca Radu-Cristian No you just disagree with his opinion .
***** What do you mean ??
***** Turns out,you are new to The Verge and their reviews.
I really don't care about his opinion man . I really don't . I just don't like the way the shit is done ...
the pebble
-always on
-kick ass battery life
-colour
-customizable
-has the main functions as high end smart watches
it's a winner
Purchase this watch and get ready for the "Is that the new apple watch!?" from bystanders.
Waiting for the steel.
Dominic London They had the steel version in their Kickstarter. Source: I ordered one. :) So excited!!!
Jaqen Sadly I missed the chance so I have to wait until July.
Dominic London Ah that sucks. Didn't realize it was limited.
It's really high price
poker84 It was only $250 in the Kickstarter which I thought was worthwhile. Only $80 than the basic plastic version.
Actually might pick this up to review. Like the simple look.
I think this watch beats the competition, sure it might have some drawbacks but this is really the best smart watch out there.
I really like it! I wish I could order it right now but I'll have to wait until the 22nd of June I guess.. Does the display come with some sort of backlight? So I can see everything although it's dark in my room or outsite?
I miss Pebble. My Pebble Time is finally biting the dust and I'm having to move on. It's depressing.
Hi I saw your video and I want to ask you I have pebble time and want to ask you how is it with phone calls like how do I pick it up or can I speak on the pebble when I'm on the phone because I did that and it doesn't work so maybe you know a better app for calling like I got pebble dialer or you know a video so to show how to pick up the phone. I would like a answer thanks
Wayyy, too early for a review. And no mention of the time steel.
This may be a bit too niche but could you guys take a look at the best fitness trackers for swimming specifically? I know there are some that track multiple activities but I'd like to know which ones are the most accurate and provide the most information for swimming in particular at different price points. Thanks
This is good upgrade for my pebble steel the timeline is a really informative function to the watch and also it comes with a voice activated function, and also the water resistant is a big plus. Hope to get this device soon.
Getting mine soon!
Wow, a review primarily about the thing you are reviewing. I am impressed. Keep it up.
I got mine this morning and have worn it all day. So far im very happy, i hate having to bring up my phone to check time. As much as i hate having to bring up my phone while driving it happens, but this finally allows me to ignore any message or see if its important enough to stop for. I like being able to dismiss calls, quick reply, and other simple stuff. I don't need a super powerful device that can stream 4k video or play battlefield on my wrist, i just needed something to stop me from having to get out my stupid phone. This is a great product.
What's the watchmaker at the start of the video? It's awesome I need it!
Moooole. We're not supposed to talk about the bloody mole!
How long have you had the watch?
"I never tested it beyond wearing it in the shower" meanwhile he's testing it right in front of my face lol
Love this can't wait to see it in stores so that I can decide from there if I would get one or not
Great review! Still waiting on my kickstarter pebble! :)
where can you buy the pebble time?
wonder why they don't use that bezel and make it clickable like the iriver s10.
Would you like some screen to go with that bezel?
I question that too..
I personally, as a geek, love the idea of the smart interchangeable straps. Can't wait to see what's coming 😊
For now it's waiting for my time steel
For a smartwatch I think this is the best, can use on different phones and last longer on battery life than other smart watches.
So you're telling me if I buy the pebble time and have an iPhone, I can't reply to texts via voice?
Wait so you can't use the mic to reply to voice chat on iPhones ?
wow amazing watch, I love the time line idea
I love this watch. I'd get this over apple watch or an android wear watch. That display looked so good outdoors! And smooth animation! Yeah it's a bit kiddish, but I dig it.
where i can buy it???
Wow, 2 seconds after this video ended I got a shipment notification for my pebble on my pebble! I can't live without my pebble anymore, I hate my phone vibrating or making any kind of noise outside of media or in phone calls. It might not look the best but I don't mind it for the functionality.
i think the purpose of it not having a ultrahd 4k OLED retina display nonsense is the battery life that you get out of it, unlike other smartwatches this thing actualy lasts a considerable amout of time, what is the purpose of a watch if you have to charge it every twenty or so hours, that is just a pain in the ass in my opinion
I personally absolutely love the look of the screen on the Time, except I kind of get the feeling like the interface would make me feel kinda lost at times. But I would buy the Time in a heartbeat, only if my paycheck was a little bigger. Pebble Time is a win for me.
I was holding out to see if how the Pebble time would stand up and I am impressed and a bit disappointed. If coming from the Android Wear or Apple Watch options then the Pebble will seem silly, but I want a watch first that just so happens to have some smart controls. Plus, the added peace of mind that I can take a swim or get it wet without worrying about is a plus. However, I think the Time should be around $150 and $225 or $250 for the Time Steel. Since, many of the Android Wear options are in the price range.
Great review! Thanks!!
It's not meant to be a fashion accessory. When Pebble launched its Time on KS, it explicitly said that the product is meant to focus on what's most important to many of us: time itself. For the average busy person, you'll probably find it helpful to have your schedule right on your wrist. It's much like having a paper or digital phone planner, without the need to look for them ever again. For that reason why I thought timeline was a great idea. Let's say you're on your coffee break, wrist up, one click, and you can see the most recent game scores or read an email your colleague sent you 30 mins ago. Pebble didn't design Time so you can sit on your sofa and play with it all day, or at your desk as a pretty distraction. You've got your phone to do that. It's basic but sleek, not flashy. If you're a backer, you'll get weekly updates from Pebble mostly focusing on functionality that can help make a busy person's day easier. This review failed to mention many things, such as being able to get an Uber on one click, timer and stopwatch functions. It looks good ENOUGH on your wrist. If they decided to make it using premium material, it'll be much more expensive and face it, a better part of you'd just opt for the Apple Watch. The review is wrong to revolve around whether Time is life changing at all because what is the reviewer benchmarking it with? Instead it should have provided more comparison points with current smart watch competitors that have similar functionalities. Everyone has a different idea of what life changing is. Heck, for me I want my watch to teleport me anywhere. But let's start with the basics: getting through the day as smoothly and in distracted as possible.
Can you make a review w/o bias? Geez
Then watch a commercial
Caleb Lopez A commercial is not a review dumbass.
Ansel Ordonez then what the hell do you think a review is? The reviewer puts in their two cents which is why you clicked on this video ...
Waiting for mine to come, I still would rather have this than the apple watch or any google wear. It looks a lot more useful and concentrated on tasks, rather than another gimmick that the alternatives have become. I'm more excited as to what will Pebble come out with next, so I've decided to finally give in and support their product.
Exactly my reasoning behind my purchase. I own an android phone, a chromebook, and a Razer blade, but I use the chromebook more, so I am seriously built into Google's ecosystem, but this just bested all of the android wear devices.
Gosh do I miss this watch... 😭
2:07 *voice crack*
Lol
Color tamagotchi?
Thank you! I'm gonna go for a pebble steel.
The 199 price seems like a bit too much. Although, the display is impressive if its E-ink. those animations are smooth.
00s era tech that you may as well use for a phone. The point of the return to the watch is that it can be as good or at least nearly as good as your phone. No need for a smartwatch like this. Little use for an Apple watch for now, for that matter (IMO).
This with steel construction, thinner bezels and bigger screen would sell a LOT more. Does that screen type need bigger bezels to work or why do they make them so ugly? Just curious...
Outdoor readability is huge - hate not seeing my screen in the sunlight on android wear watches. Also battery life - it's still the best start watch or most practical at least.
If there is a crown for navigation will be nice
FINALLY A REVIEW
I preordered the Pebble Time Steel on Kickstarter. The wait is too long.
I like the software but they really need to improve on the design of the watch
Why is it so hard to find a review on this watch that isn't just an overview? I know all of this from the concept video they launched with their kickstarter months ago. Other than your opinion, I'm not learning anything important to make a decision as a consumer (although I already purchased it).
Are these free inside Cheerios boxes?!
People say it looks like a toy...but I kind of like that geeky thing to it...it's cutesy
It is a simple smart watch but at the very least I will know any apps on my watch will load in an instant and I won't have to worry about charging my battery when it starts to get late in the day
no replies on iOS version :/ that's one of the reasons I bought this damn thing!
I might have to sell it now..
The Pebbles would of been a great idea if the would of been made back in the 80s or 90s or early 2000s.
I use both OS so this is cool. Funny people say Apple fans are simple sheep, but note how it is the Android fanboys that seem to rage hardest in these comments.
The irony being they are more sheep like, in fact a Android fanboy is normally just a 16-25 year old that thinks nobody could possibly know better than him.
nobody is talking about the ridiculous delay of the steel, and the ridiculous pebble assistance? in may i've paid a lot of money for a fast shipping, and after that they postponed the delivery to august!!!
This is worthy piece than Apple watch
I, personally, think that the watch is too expensive. If this was $99, I'd totally buy it, but for $200, it's just too much.
Justin Howell then buy the other pebble devices start from $99 that will soon support this OS
Asher Harris Oh, I didn't know they were getting updates! Thanks! :-)
Justin Howell try to find a cheaper good quality smartwatch
Cyb3rPhoenix | Minecraft & Gaming the LG g watch is 99€ in amazon in germany
***** *was 99€
I wish mine would bloody ship!
so the verge is going to use the same song in every video now?
Put some enthusiasm into the reviews?
I still think the original pebble steel is the best looking pebble yet...
I guess the fact that it has a *10 day battery life* wasn't important.
Am I the only one that prefers the design of the 1st Pebble?
Yeah, there's a reason why there no straps available yet... Because the watch hasn't even been released yet. Jeez...
In a world of higher than 1080p computer displays and phones, the screen on this simply looks inadequate, even if its with some low-contrast color and on all the time.
For a working adult its hard to imagine going outside my home with a plastic strap watch - haven't had anything like that since I was a little boy.
Also, there's a reason most high end watches are round - its simply a much better aesthetic.
We still need to patiently wait for this whole smart-watch idea to mature as clearly nothing is worth spending big $$$ for at the moment.
Sticking to my "Dumb" watch for 2015.
looks like a childish watch
there is simple and classy and then it has simple and childish. I love the pebble 1 edition. sorry my opinion hurt you so much that your communications skills forced you to be so uncivilized.
who mentioned the Apple watch? we are talking about just the pebble time. Come on, don't deflect Patel.
AgentJucey Pebble Time Steel. Take a look at that one.
Paul Coman Jali Hawkins It looks better, but not by much. Needs to slim down that huge bezel.
***** 10 day battery tho
those fucking bezels
You would be a fool to buy this for $200, when right now you can get a Motorola 360 for only $150.
U left out the key benefit of pebble that s its open source and more o p en to third party app
I don't know who at Pebble decided to make the new UI childish, but they destroyed the company's chances of surviving against android wear and the iWatch.
A damn shame, I wear the original pebble every day
Why so rushed?
It looks like something out of 1990
am i the only one that thinks it loos really cool?
That ui is gorgeous way back 1999 lol
Shit software, Shit user interface
I'm never gonna get a smartwatch or a watch. I will lose it within the first week.
Looks awful. Hideous. I'd be embarrassed to be seen with that on my wrist.
Apple is the only one to have made an elegant looking smart watch. And even then, it's like saying they're the most attractive circus freak
AgainstYourThought Moto 360, LG Watch Urbane...easily beats the shitty Apple watch in design.
Tony JK Don't agree at all.
***** You can't judge the looks of a smart watch by sales lmao.
Chalesberg CA Apple morons have already bought it in millions of numbers (without even thinking about its pros and cons!)
***** Sales?? are you kidding? Apple fans would buy a packaged/branded pile of stinking shit if Apple put it their stores... Apple is a brand/image that people like. So naturally their sales are going to be huge. That doesn't mean every other tech device not made by Apple is ugly and dis-functional. It simply means Apple fanboys are too ignorant to try something different. Apple Watch looks fine, I think it looks better than the Pebble Time, however, I prefer the Pebble Time because the display is better for viewing in sunlight.
What's with the display tho. It has bad indoor readability.
It is e-ink
Abi Nubli Trust me, I own a Pebble watch now, it looks fine indoors and it's very readable outdoors. The E-Paper display is great.
And the verge didn't mention the battery life , which is pebble's strongest point !
Abi Nubli honestly, look for other reviews. The e-ink display is great to read inside and out, and the watch has great battery life. I feel this one was rushed and didn't give a lot of info about the watch and the pros of it.
The Jeff the did
lol 3:09
Using that watch looks like hell.
What if I told u that u could bring the phone out of your pocket and squeeze your eyes
Looks like a watch you get out of a cereal box.
Not a fun of the design, I'd rather spend less money on the first version
more like an overview, i'll wait for MKBHD or Linus to make a proper review.
As soon as I heard that familiar music, I knew this review would be bland, lacking detail, and just not as well thought out as the review of apple's product, even though, let's not kid ourselves, this is clearly the better option.
•sigh•
Very poor 'review.' I could've gotten the same information from a first glances video. I used to love The Verge's videos, but now they're just click-baited, over-produced circlejerks of criticism to anything that doesn't wear an Apple logo on it. Unsubscribed.
Pebble Time Steel. 10 day battery life, not all plasticky like this one.
BG music is horrible!
I have gotten 4 days from my g watch r
realannoyingapple00 ...When not connected via Bluetooth and display set to off lol
***** no when i have it connected and use it a lot. The trick is i turn it off fully at night (10pm to 6am)
realannoyingapple00 I've gotten 5 using that method. It works a charm
He means without turning it off or charging it at all. Other reviewers have gotten a full week with heavy use .
Apple watch FTW!
Where is the smooth talking review guy? He's review shit better
I swear Pebble purposely makes a shitty looking first edition so they can make a 2nd edition. They update thr 2nd edition with minor but drastic changes to jack the price.
The Pebble Time for Ages 2-14
