  • Currently the most-funded Kickstarter project ever, Pebble managed to bring in nearly 60,000 backers to support their unique approach to the smartwatch concept Pebble Time. Promoting an eInk display and the removal of apps from the device via it's past, present, and future interface, Time is optimized for individuals seeking quick personalized information on the go. Kyle Russell visits the Pebble HQ in Palo Alto to take a look at their newest smartwatch and it's massive Kickstarter campaign.

Pebble seems to understand the true purpose of a smartwatch. It's not supposed to be a phone and it's not supposed to be a watch but rather a medium and they seem to have discovered this balance. I don't think they should be scared of the other established companies because they don't understand the purpose of smartwatches yet. They're cashing in on a niche market, Apple will make wearables get noticed more like they did with smart phones and the iPhone, however their watch will not be the best. I will personally support Pebble for a few reasons.
    1. They're a small company
    2. They have great battery life
    3. New OS seems to make sense
    4. They offer two versions
    5. They understand the core idea behind wearables: glanceable info, simple interface, long battery life, and the fact that it shouldn't try to replace your phone but rather work as an extension of your device.
    6. Supports iOS and Android
Now I'm sure this device will not be perfect but it appears to have thought put into it than other developers have cared to do. And that's probably due to the fact that all Pebble does is make smartwatches.

WYPOUT 429 I don’t really understand your argument here. What do you mean the smart watch is not supposed to be a “smartphone?” The definition of “smart watch” is supposed to be very independent of the smartphone, NOT to be dependent on the smartphone. Apple is the real company to understand the meaning of “smart watch” here, while Pebble is just a shadow of Apple’s plan.

Pebble is a great product. What i love about it the most is that it knows its not a phone. I dont need to worry about charging everyday. I can leave it on my wrist and forget about it just like a watch is supposed to be.

I love how small companies are putting pressure and actually accomplish new and innovative product's then these huge established big brand companies. Its like David vs Goliath and we all know how that ended. Times are changing and with platforms like kickstarter these big brand corporations are in serious trouble.

I'm excited about the new one. I have the original Pebble and it's great. Some people don't seem to understand the concept of e ink and will make fun of the display type. whatever. Always on display plus full week plus battery life makes this great. There are many people who don't want a "mini smart phone" on their wrist, but want the convenience of what's offered here. Thanks guys, Pebble Time Steel - can't wait!

Does anyone know if you'll be able to send quick replies when paired with an iPhone?

    • @MrOriginalMix
      @MrOriginalMix 9 років тому

JerTheGeek short answer, yes, you can.
Long answer - at the moment you can use third party apps (such as "Pebble Apps") to send preset quick replies which you can customize.
From what I am seeing with the new Pebble Time watch though is this function could be built in to the new watch.

I miss Pebble. Why can’t Google and FitBit make a decent replacement. Just give me an eink screen with notifications.

I like their vision, but the design is ugly. A watch is a fashion accessory 1st.

Apple Tech reviews coming from an apple fanboy??? This watch is less than half the price of Apples entry level smart watch with more than 7 times the battery life... oh and by the way, your videos are horrible, you should replace "tech review" with "sheep boy" and your name would be more accurate.

*WOW!!! SIXTY-FOUR COLORS!!!! THIS EVEN BEATS MY NINTENDO 64!!!* (no, actually it doesn't)
LOOOOOL!! What a piece of *CRAP*.
Bummers... I feel really bad for all the *boneheads* that actually pledged money to this *turd* (okay... no I don't). Too bad that Apple is going to wipe the floor with them.
Oh well, *it was cute while it lasted*.
