  • Today on the WorkBench, I am building the 1993 edition of AMT/ERTL's 1957 Ford Thunderbird. I have had this multi kit box laying around since 1993 and I have finally decided to build it.
    This video has been delayed for release by one week due to a business/vacation trip. I apologize for the delay but where I was staying had zero internet coverage. Now that I am back home I can get back to the normal schedule.
    All in all this was a very nice build and it went together very easily. There have been quite a few Re-pops of this kit over the years from 1957 all the way up to this year. Through my research I have discovered that all of these are identical having come from the exact same molds. So, if you've built one, you've built them all.
    I hope that you enjoyed watching this video as much as I did building the kit.

    Very nice T-bird build. Like the color. I love those AMT 3 kits in 1 box.😊

      Thank You! Thunderbird's didn't actually come in that color but that is the beauty of the hobby. It can be any color that suits the builder. It also helps that this color is one of my favorites... I have a few more of the AMT three car kits in the stash that I will eventually get around to building on the channel.

    I forgot to add that I built two of the cars used for the box art photos. The 57 Fairlane and 63 Galaxie.

    While the kit is said to have originated from the promo tool, the kit (along with many changes and additional parts didn't come about until 1962. Your build looks pretty nice, and I really like the color. I recently reviewed the current Round2 release, and it can found on the Model Cars Magazine forum under While the kit is said to have originated from the promo tool, the with (along with many changes and additional parts didn't come about until 1962. I watched a video that was reviewing the current version of this kit and everything was identical except for the decal sheet. Now, about the color that I chose... I didn't want to build this in one of the more common colors of Black, Red, Yellow or Pink. So, I went outside of that framework and came up with this color scheme. Thanks for watching!

      @@scaleautoguysworkbench Same mold, but a number of gates reopened, so there are additional parts in this one from much older releases that the 1973-2006 versions don't have. Mine is Model Master Dark Bronze. Unfortunately, UA-cam won't let me link to it.

      @@daviddarby6986 Although I am old enough to have lived to see these changes, I am unaware of them due to my attraction to GM and Mopar kits ways back then. I'm sure that you are 100% correct in what you're saying. My only basis of comparison for this particular kit is between this release and the more recent release. I wish that I could go back in time and see these changes when they happened. It was a wonderful time in the hobby right at basically its infancy.

    New AMT kit box says it has 4 white walls, and 4 pad-print tires for the custom. I bought it, but have not opened box yet.
    I'm disappointed that Round2 did not include a port-hole top on this new version.
    Was your kit made to build with continental kit or without it?

      @scaleautoguysworkbench  10 місяців тому +3

      As mentioned in the video, this is a 1993 edition when it was still under the ERTL umbrella. There was any whitewall or pad printed tire options included in this kit. This kit did not provide for the port hole either. It did come with two different roofs though and I didn't like the "Fastback" style roof but it can be seen being painted in the video. The continental kit was optional and had to be attached during final assembly. As far as I can tell, the reissue of this kit is from the same exact mold. I did a comparison, and they are identical with the exception of the decal sheet and possibly the tires.
