The Chevrolet Special Deluxe Series AH Fleetline is an automobile which was produced by US automaker Chevrolet from 1941 to 1952. From 1946 to 1948 it was a sub-series of the Chevrolet Fleetmaster rather than a series of the Special Deluxe and from 1949 to 1951 it was a sub-series of both the Chevrolet Special and the Chevrolet Deluxe.[1] In its final year it was offered only as a sub-series of the latter.[1]
The Fleetline was introduced late in the 1941 model year as a four-door sedan only.[6] In 1942, a fastback two-door "Aerosedan" was also offered while the sedan was renamed "Sport Master".[6] In 1947, the Fleetline made up 71.26% of Chevrolet's sales.[4] For the years' 1949 through 1952 models, the fastback was the only one offered, and Chevrolet dropped the Fleetline for 1953.[7] Production was indefinitely delayed in 1942 due to World War II, after 110,000 had been made, though several thousand Chevrolet coupes and sedans were produced during the war years for military staff use. In 1945, production for civilians resumed. The original series was produced through 1948.
A redesigned Fleetline with reduced body contour and integrated rear fenders was offered for the 1949 through 1952 model years.[4] It was referred to as a "fastback" because of its distinct sloping roof which extends through to the trunk lid. The Fleetline during the 1949 to 1950 years also has a lower look than a sedan, with the windshield being one inch shorter in height than a standard contemporary sedan. The 1949 to 1951 models were made in both four-door and two-door models, with only the lower portion of the doors being interchangeable with a sedan door. The Fleetline series is currently highly collectable. Many are made into street rods, with the common Chevrolet 350 small block V8 and the 350 or 400 turbo transmission being used.
Beauty! Nice color choices Chris!
Great video Chris keep em coming I'll keep watching
I'm Dan, Martha's my wife. Always love your videos, especially the music, and I really like the Spanish music. Keep playing it.
What a cool build. In 1951 I was a precocious 6 year old in love with cars. This Chevy fastback was a favorite. My mom drove a clapped out 1940 Chevy 2 door sedan with a hole in the back floor board "Don't you kids get near that hole. Fall out that hole and I won't come back to get ya. So sit down." Mom, always looking out for us. This is a beauty build. Your color choices are spot on. Thanks so much for the build and for lighting up mom's memory again "...don't fall through that floorboard."
I remember holes in the floorboards, too. Them old metal dashboards. Great memories.
I remember - when i was a little kid - maybe kindergarten or first grade - my family and a few others in the neighborhood were in a car pool and the various mothers would
take turns driving the kids to school. One particularly poor family was driving us to school in an old station wagon and myself and a another kid were breaking off pieces of the
rusted floorboard and dropping the pieces onto the road as we drove along. The other kid would yell, "bombs over Tokyo"! as he dropped a piece of rusted floorboard !
@@urbanurchin5930 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks as always RA!
@urbanurchin5930 very vivid and beautiful memories. I never rode in a car with a "hole in the floor," but certainly, with your comment, I can even feel the moment as if I was there on board. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Mexico. Gracias!
SWEET !!!!
Definitely a cool kit that you can do a lot with!!!! 👍👍
This looks a lot like a used car that my Mom had when I was very young. I like the shape of these older cars.
Nice build Chris! Excellent color choice.
JO-HAN had foil in some of their kits back in 60’s.The first one being the Chrysler Turbine Car in 1964.I had that kit when it came out.
this kit is better than I thought …. looks like I will picking one up now :-)
the injection of plastic into the mold at that point gives a better fill of the emblem
a little file and sand work
I might buy this kit for the engine and tires and build the car as a gasser.
luv this kit...ty buddy
RJ
Hi Chris, I an very happy that you built the car as stock, you done a excellent rendition of what I would describe as a stereotypical American car, congratulations on a job well done, bedt regards from Australia 👍👍👍👍
Very nice!!! I like the 6 cylinder engine. Great work and keep it up.
Really enjoyed this as I had a '51 Fleetline 2 door, fully restored. Maroon with Powerglide trans. with the 235ci Blueflame.
Nice this was very helpful for my 51 chevy model
Love it!
"Wheels look delicious?" Lol, thanks for always keeping it fun Chris. You are the best!
Awesome kit , and build. Amazing finish.
NICEEEEEE.
Just done so right .
Outstanding build! Glad you went with "stockish". Not everything needs to be a custom or high performance.😀
Yeah. Probably going to get this now.
Nicely done, Chris. I showed my wife. She really liked the green.
I love the fact that this latest reissue comes with both whitewall and lettered tires! The gauge decals are a welcome bonus too.
Ohhhhh man , I can see kitbashing that bad boy into a sweet gasser !!!
❤😊👍🤩🤗☺️😁🚗🚗 that's a very classic car in the 20th century. A true classic car this Chevy fleetline stovetop 6 1951.
I must say, that may be your best yet. It looks beautiful. Great job!
Color is perfect for the era. This car is ready for a Route 66 adventure!
That "chrome" rectangle sticker just gave me a flashback from long ago. Never built this Chevy, so it had to have been in something else. Now I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight. Thanks. 🙄
Well, now…your approach to those fender liners was genius! The directions in the kits I had previously built instructed to cement them to the frame rails as opposed to your approach of fastening them to the interior. I was wondering how that would work when it came time to align the tops of those pieces; the two hood-off still shots at the end convinced me that you should write the assembly directions, or at least suggest to the manufacturers that they try your assembly method BEFORE sending out the final sheet.
Well done; thank you for that!
that's a sharp looking car..!! I really like it. I would definitely buy if I see it.
That is a sweet looking ride, the wheels turned out really nice.
Period perfect restoration build Chris! Great color choices as well!
Very nice! Love the color. It looks great for an older kit.
Great build. I built 3 of these chevy fastbacks over the years. Always a joy!
Absolutely stunning. I love it.
Like the 6banger, it's a refreshing break from V8's, thanks for the information about the glue
Chris- does the glue that you use allow a little time for wiggle room or is it as fast as super glue and you only have one shot
very nice job chris love the color on the body keep up the great work .john
Cool build nice color combination I will have to buy this model
Is beautiful, in originality, would have worn its skirts, your car, love it, my grandpa had a fifty styline deluxe, very similar!
I like the all stock look on that one
Awesome mate👍
Nice kit, gotta get this one for the stash! I like the "Bugs Bunny antics" music too.
Nice. We had one almost the same color in the 50s. The steering wheel was about the same body color.... can't remember the rest of the interior. I'll have to build one. Thanks Chris, fun memories.
Great review and awesome build.thanks chris.glad to see this one reissued.peace
beautiful build chris, amt missed some details, wrong hubcaps, and some fit and finish, grew up riding in grandpas all original 50, you got most of this car spot on, and as you say, it is your model, you did awesome, they barely changed detail from year to year, and what amt missed was cosmetic stuff, i would buy one,
I wish there was a 49’ Roadmaster convertible model kit I’d love to put that together
Nice build. It's on my wishlist lol.
I really like decal and tire options, especially the whitewalls.
A bit late on this but it popped up on my feed...a lovely job Chris, always impressed with what you do with rattle cans. On the bumper fill in pieces not being bodycolour, I can empathise. I just completed a Heller 1/16 Citroen DS19 and didnt spot the insides of the window frames needed to be black. So now I have a small white plastic line showing. I can worry about it and have moved on...Lovely kit, I will be building mine stock also and fitting the rear wheel skirts 😎
Love the old style cars they are the best to build and paint 😊
Wow perfect color for the old Chevy nicely built
Absolutely beautiful kit. I'll get one for sure. Thank for posting this Chris.
This is an awesome kit, love all the extra pieces, end of the chassis , rear of the interior tub, the inner fender pieces make a great structure, also. Who doesnt love chrome reverse wheels with baby moons! That 6 cyl. Is cool as heck!!!!
Love this car. Nice job. 👍
Outstanding work, looks stunning
What a great build - love it ❤ - thank you
It nice looking kit.
You did a good job
😲 WOW 👀 Excellent choice. 🎉 This fantastic 🤗 👍🏼
~as always you did a great job~so real to be authentic~my uncle had one of these back in the day~his next car was a new 1963 Chevy Bel Air~I can still smell how old it was before he got rid of it~🙂
Absolutely outstanding job Chris! From that two tone interior to that lovely body! I am still deciding on the colors for mine! Looks like another fun build ahead!
There's something special about these 1950s cars in terms of the design and color choices. I like the fact that AMT put a sheet of Bare Metal Foil in it; I built Revell/Monogram's 1959 Caddy twice and that definitely would have benefited from that, because the decals they used to simulate the chrome trim in the second one I built last year didn't work as well as I had hoped.
Love it! Nice build, Chris.
Nice 😅
Hi Chris,
Well, the can DID say Celery, so Celery it is!!! I LOVE IT!
What an absolute gem of a kit, thanks for building this.
I'll definitely be adding it to my build list.
Take care.
That's a very subtle green, I kept waiting for it to darken up, when it didn't, I thought " hmm, this is different- good different " )
Belle voiture classique !!...
The Blue Flame six was blue. The truck engines were gray. A rebuilt engine could be any color.
My first car was a 2-door '51 coupe. Mayby not as cool as a Fleetline but I loved that car. The only problem I ever had was the shift bars kept locking up and I would have to sit on the fender and kick them until they broke free.
Slightly surprised they didn't throw in a small block option.
Nice build. Do they make a '51 with a trunk, instead of this one that is more like a fastback?
👍🏼
The 57 chevy Bel Air New Tooling 1998, The Coca Cola Version and The Last Reissue include The BMF
Very nice wich I could send u a picture of mine
Part 2 my uncle's 51 he would find parts people had and buy them back in early 90s before internet became a big help the guy who bought it got it before my uncle could paint it lol he painted it black my uncle was goin to do red
What kind of glue do you use? I've been trying to find A glue with a brush like you'll use, but I haven't been able to find one that actually works.
I prefer Plastruct Bondene for my kits, but any of the modern liquid (not tube) glues will work well. All of those will have a brush in the cap.
In the movie GREASE and GREASE 2 that was the pink ladies car
GREASE Pink car was a Studebaker. I haven't seen GREASE II
Any recommendations for US Naval ships looking for DD's from the 40's, LPD's and LSD's and Aircraft Carriers CVA 15-19 WW2 Carriers
Wow! That turned out really nice! Great job! Did you put the floor polish on the chrome bumpers too? Always enjoy your channel!👍😁
The floor polish gets brushed on the entire model when I'm all done. Over the paint, chrome, trim, glass, decals, all of it.
I've done some videos on floor polish on the channel, feel free to take a look. Thanks!
Isn't that the car from Thunderbolt & Lightning ? I think it looks like the getaway car after the robbery at the armory
Came out beautiful Chris, as for BMF, the quality of that stuff has gone downhill.
Really like this color choice.
Is there a license plate bracket for the back of the model?
I don't recall if the plates were attached to the bumper or to the trunk lid.
Yes, it has brackets if you want to add plates.
My father had a Sinclair service station and I saw cars being dismantled and repaired. Chevy stovebolt engines were usually gray or navy blue. Our '54 Chevy 210 had a navy blue six with a yellow, orange and red "blue flame" on the valve cover. Upholstery on the 51's were usually gray. Instruments were different shades of silver. And what happened to the fine scored lines on the grille bottom?
Beautiful job! What pen are you using to detail the chrome edges? I have tried the Sharpie metallics but they are often too thick and run over edge. Thanks
Also, why did you use the foil at the bottom instead of the chrome pen? Thanks again.
What brand of tape do you use for masking?
Washi tape, which is a craft tape.
What kind/brand of masking tape are you using?
Great model!
Loving the videos. I've just recently got back into building models and I've learned quite a lot from your videos. Do you have any on combining two kits for example making a pro street version of a model not normally offered that way or a gasser?
I think I have watched most of your videos and love your technique. I build almost the same as you. I just started using gel pens for doing details but I have a question on that. How long does it take for the gel to dry? Maybe I got the wrong kind (pentel) but it seems like it never does...
It takes a long time to dry, I use a dehydrator.
Just be careful after application and it should harden off in a few days usually.
How about the 51 Chevy convertible?
I don't think this is that old of a kit. I think it was released when Ertl owned AMT. When I bought it, it didn't come with the chrome foil. The version I bought had a stock kit photo on the box. I found a resin chop top body on line. There was a fair amount of fitting of the inner fenders, the glass, the top of the interior tub.
I helped my uncle restore a 51 Bel-Air he had he found it in someone back yard under tarps car been there it's whole life house changed hands 5-6 times car sat there till my uncle got it he got lucky car was still in good shape he put 15k in restoration and sold it for 23k
I smell a gasser build by several people.
I notice that you sometimes use liquid glue and super glue on different parts such as engine and body parts. What's the reason for the difference?
Looks bone stock straight from the factory. This is why (in most cases) I like to get more than one kit so I can build at least one of them that way.
The spur on the front of the hood. I know right 🙄 ?
The drip rails are painted on the real car. Not chromed.
This kit kicked my tail. Instructions were sub-par at least for me. Particularly the inner front fenders butt joined to the firewall and radiator. Squaring/plumbing that part of the assembly was NOT easy. Editing later the same week. I abandoned this build. First time ever I had to do so. Body would not set on chassis even after removing interior tub. Do not buy this kit if you are a beginner like me.
This would be a good one to do up in a satin black ratrod
