I´m not the reach out type either, but when I trully want someone I can make some exceptions. If they can´t make an exception for you, you are not that important to them. Move on and find someone who values you for the awesome person you are.

That's very anxious thinking. Youre more concerned with who shes sleeping with than if she works on herself. What if the situation was reserved and she came back but found out that YOU slept with other women? By your logic you wouldn't be worthy of another chance if she did.

I don't care if my ex is an avoidant and isn't one to initiate contact .. She mercilessly dumped and blocked me when it was her behaviour that incited the break up in the first place.. So avoidant or not.. i'm not reaching out to this girl . and if she doesn't reach out she'll never hear from me again . and if she does reach out she will have to do 100 percent of the texting and calling .
I'm thinking the same thing. My ex ruined everything for basically nothing. Still I was stupid enough to try to reason with her for 2 weeks and of course she just raged at my newbie post-breakup mistakes. If she was ever to try and talk to me, she would have to sweat blood and move mountains for me to even consider replying to her.

It's been 3 years.
What a journey. I think Craig has seen my anguish over the last 3 years and it's taken me a long time.
The short story is, I am fitter, better looking, I have a more beautiful home, a better job and more importantly, I have done lots of work on my anxious attachment.
I have many options with dating attractive women these days which has been lovely.
I will admit though, I still think about her. I am seeing her differently now, not idolising her like I did, but I do find myself thinking of her often still. She looks happy in her new relationship and I think she deserves happiness if that's What she wants.
But I'm doing ok.
I just wish I didn't think of her as much!😁

I'm glad you're doing better now, I feel that as long as you know yourself and where you draw your boundaries, it helps you find someone that you wouldn't have to mold your personality around. They will reach out if you allow no contact to work. Craig has been a prophet in my situation, and almost called it to the day as to when she would reach back out. Avoidant as well due to childhood trauma. She said she needed to work on herself and had an immediate rebound for about 2 months. 4 months and two weeks after the break up and she sent me a very direct message asking to meet up. Listen to Craig and his advice he is amazing!

I had an ex come back after SEVEN years. Not to get back together. He responded to a message i had sent him seven years ago. The conversation was extremely short. I no longer wanted him BUT the point is exes DO come back! Him and I werent very attached at all and he came back. Work on yourself NO MATTER WHAT!

Got to 6:47 and damn, another video that pertains to my situation a lot. Knew from the title I was in for one that was close to home. I’m anxious avoidant (emphasis on avoidant), and did a lot of the same things this guy did. Got the same response. Haven’t even finished to video but oof. This ones gonna be a hitter. It feels good hearing this video though. Hearing you disect it as you go along and the non-surprises thrown at you throughout the video makes me feel like my situation is predictable and fixable. Even though mine was more brutal and did end in a bad event. Once again. Craig and Margaret with the amazing content. Almost choked up cause it felt like I was in a session with you this video. Yes, believe it they do come back. I had an ex breakup with me and took him a year to reach out , got back to together but broke up again. Ironically after a year again he had reached out AGAIN! But this time around I am not interested. I got into a new relationship with someone new and this time I was the dumper . After 6 months of NC, I started to miss him and reached out to him twice already but I believe he may have blocked me but whether he did or didn't I will not contact him again.

He always did when l stayed silent for 3-4 weeks, but these 3-4 weeks are extreme suffering because everytime I think this time he won't, he'll just stay away and find someone better 💔😩

I been married to a Avoidant for 7 yrs. Together for 10 years. Weve been separated for 3yrs. After our separation months later he got Together with someone else. Hes comes back usually every 10 months. I want him back but im always working on myself. Ive asked him if he wants to divorce but he says he doesn't know what he wants. I think however with the reaching out thing, if an ex reaches out to me say, three months later or beyond, that to me isn't getting back together material. To me that's them wanting something they had cause the new isn't so great or something like that.

I was with my ex almost two years. My ex was an avoidant. He grew up in a household where you didn't speak about feelings and you had to suck it up. He left from his home early, is extremely independent and has a great career. I have an anxious attachment style. First time in my life where I even realised that. The relationship was great when we were good. But my insecurities got out of hand sometimes blaming him or overreacting over small things. And he went days ignoring me during those periods. We broke up last summer, he wasn't feeling good in his life and also couldn't handle us fighting, he was extremely emotional and angry while breaking up with me. After a month, he came back. Saying he thinks he could've given more from his part. We came back everything was great a couple of months and then got back in the cycle of fighting.
We couldn't understand each other, he misunderstood me, I misunderstood him, he got less patient with me and starting to get angrier faster. He told me I was too sensitive, too insecure and it was best for us if I just stopped complaining. In my head I just wanted to be able to voice my feelings but I was open to the fact that ''okay, maybe I am complaining too much and maybe I shouldn't project so much on him''. I later decided to take a break on new years eve with me bc of an incident that happen that just made me tired but I didn't break it off. I just told him I needed to study and be alone during that time. When we came back I had read so much about attachment theory and etc. I showed him and explained to him. He could identify 100 % with being an avoidant. I told him I really wanted to learn and for him to learn and maybe that could help us, once we understand more about ourselves. But, he wasn't interested. We then went back to cycle of misunderstanding, and I realised how low his patience was, he got angrier.
Valentines day came and we fought on the way back, not really fighting but we had an argument and he went silent treatment for the whole train ride, 11 hours.. Many times I thought that I should just go back and speak to him but I was so angry bc I felt as though we had spoken about not doing this silent treatment again since it just makes it worse. Once we came back home, a few days after he meets to tell me he wants to break up. I tell him I don't want to and that all we've been doing is trying to ask each other to change in order to help ourselves not react or cover our insecurities. I didn't find that good and I told him I have stuff I need to work on that is beneficial for me and also the relationship, but it takes two in a relationship and I truly believe he didn't feel like he was did anything that was not beneficial for us. He said once he has made his mind up, that's it, no going back. But eventually he told me ok give me time to think bc I need to remove this conviction I have. I gave him space and he came back.
He told me, and I agreed, that he could not have a gun pointed to my head bc we would have arguments and he can't just immediately just leave everything and say ''oh told you so''. It's not realistic. We agreed that if WE gave it a chance he had do our own parts. I told him ''whatever you need, if you need space, time and then we come back and revisit the issue, it's fine. You just have to communicate!''. But as you can already figure out, it didn't happen. The smallest thing became SO big for him. He wanted to break up multiple times over those things bc for him it convinced him that ''we are not compatible, we want different things, we have different needs, you don't understand me''. An example was that we spoke about politics, he made a statement I laughed a bit and made a comment and he got upset, ignoring me. I came to him I later apologised for it. But he went on with the statements that I wrote above and said I didn't support him. Which is absolutely not true and I know deep down he knew that but somehow he got so mad. It felt like he was already done and actually he could not continue without holding that gun towards my head. It didn't matter if I came to him, I told him ''oh okay I must have misunderstood you, I'm sorry if that made you feel that way, what I meant was blabla''. I reallyreally was super aware of my choices of words, actions everything during that last period. But it didn't matter. He reacted super strongly, he couldn't control it and it didn't give me the chance for anything.
He then broke up one day over facetime... Telling me the same statements, super straight forward, no emotions shown. Also telling me ''I can't be in an uncertain environment, being alone I know it's certain and I focus on my things and do my things and then I'll be over it''.. it was almost like he was trying to convince himself by saying that. I cried and was heartbroken and he didn't say so much even though I was like but if you know what you're doing wrong, that you need to communicate to me an all of that (since I can't read his mind) why can't you do that? But he just told me to accept it, this is better, you're going to thank me later, we've tried already.
He had this idea of me which I undersand to an extent bc of our past, but at time I believe that's wrong to keep that and put that on us now when we said we were going to try and do our parts different. I believe I worked on being more conscious of my actions during our relationship and how I approached him. But now it wasn't even that, it was WHAT I brought up. He didn't want me to have an opinion or talk about stuff. But how would I know what that is. I'm not perfect and I definitely must have really got him frustrated but who is? I just didn't find it fair this last time. I can see how he has the tendencies to get so angry and in his feelings and then just want to leave. Now, I know you say ppl come back. And this happened three days ago so I would lie to say if I didn't want him to come back. But from what he has always told me about how he just oppresses his feelings no matter what, him being stubborn and maybe him just wanting to be fair with me bc he can't control his feelings. I feel like it's just done. But I'm super sad bc he's not the type to be calling me on facetime to break up. I just found that disrespectful and it shows me how scared and insecure he actually is.

As a Fearful Avoidant (Disorganized attachment), I see parts of myself in both of you. The Dismissive Avoidant I dated broke my heart into a million pieces and even a year later I wish we could give it another shot, but you summed it up when you said that it takes TWO people to make it work. This was my experience as well. He didn't try much at all and wouldn't communicate. Before I dated him I had worked on myself enough that I was able to communicate my feelings pretty well despite still being insecure, and of course my feelings were dismissed usually. Unfortunately I didn't know how to deal with that, so I was the volatile one always trying to break up, but I knew deep down that I should have just done it. My heart couldn't bear it to follow through, so eventually he ghosted me right after we finally had a TWO-WAY emotionally vulnerable and honest conversation. He lied to me that he would look over some things that helped us in the past and think about things - or at least I took that to mean that we'd talk again. I then went full anxious and freaked out trying to contact him over and over, and then a month later I apologized for it and wished him the best. He then restricted me on Facebook a while later. Maybe he's unfriended me now, who knows. I quit logging for my mental health. I haven't heard from him in all this time, and I tried.
My point is you already know deep down that it doesn't work. Both people have to communicate and be on the path to self growth. I still get really sad about mine too, but I know the same truth. There's just nothing we can do about it, and the ball is in their court if they ever change their pattern. Self growth is something everyone has to want for themselves and something has to trigger that to happen. Sometimes it never happens. The best thing we can do for ourselves is work on our own insecure attachment style and heal our trauma because at the end of the day, all we can do is fix our own insecure patterns so that we may find a better partner one day and be able to have a healthy relationship with them. Wow your story really resonates with mine. My ex and I dated for almost a year and we showed differences in how we displayed our emotions, which leads to so many arguments. I was put through so much anxiety, frustration and anger and I tried to fix things with him. But he broke up with me through text messages, without any consolation and care.
I think it is just wiser for us not to fall in love with avoidant attachments, and getting back with them is even out of the question. Unless they are trying to improve themselves into secure attachment then they are not worth it.

Been just over two years now, she started dating a guy a year ago, things ain't lookin hot there 😅🥲
I think that my ex is an extreme avoidant, her mother has severe mental health issues, father was jailed, had alcohol addiction and separated when she was young. On top of that, she has been talking a lot of crap about me to everyone I know- just this will make it more awkward for her to reconnect. So, she doesn’t trust anyone and in hindsight she burns bridges. Not good, I’m done for, and I know it. It’s fine, but I keep watching you guys because this is so much useful information for my future.
Hi! It’s been 2 years since my ex dumped me and he never reached out. I only saw that he once viewed my IG story and other than that silence. A few weeks after he dumped me, I texted him to apologise for saying that I forbid him to talk to me; I said that I didn’t mean it. He answered politely, and I wished him well. It is his loss. I was truly open to his qualities and flaws. He will not reach out; he is an avoidant.

On Valentine's she accepted to meet, after the, "you know what..." begging and pleading, I tried to reconnect but it didn't work, it's been a month from that. Her last words to me were "I don’t think I will ever find a guy like you, with so much love and care it’s unbelievable". I don't think she will ever reach out.
Well Craig its been a year and 7 months since she left, just as long as the time we were dating. I was 19 at the time, she was 18. Ive done 1 coaching with u and margaret each over a year ago. Ive grown and learned so much from watching your channel, but its still difficult for me to identify what really caused her to leave. Part of me picks apart small things i did at the end of the relationship to blame myself, like jokes i used too much that probably annoyed her, a small argument that happened over text. But then again there were big problems that were always there, like her depression, her abusive, bipolar mother, and the fact she wasnt differentiated from her family despite them being pretty selfish and controlling over her.
The day she broke up with me she herself seemed upset. She got in my car outside her house, clenched my shoulder, and told me to pull over. My first thought that moment was "Oh god what did her mom do this time?" After pulling over she told me she was breaking up with me, and that she "woke up one day last week and didnt love you anymore." She said She still cares about me and is scared she'll never see me again, but she's been feeling like she needed to do this for a week. She also said things about working on her mental health, and that i deserve better. She couldnt tell me anything i did wrong, but my anxiety ridden brain wouldnt accept it. I thought for sure it must have been all my fault, and that she's just lying to me. And of course the more i pressed her, and the angrier i got, the more she became nasty and set in her decision. "I havent felt this good mentally in a year! Focus on moving on because its the only option you have at this point!" she said.
This made me feel like i was the source of her depression, i was the reason she was unhappy, but over time i realized this made zero sense when thinking about the context of our relationship. We were together a year and 7 months, i was the only guy she had ever been romantic with, and she said such wonderful things to me, about me. I did a coaching with margaret last May and she made it clear that she did not believe my ex just woke up and didnt love me. In fact, she said its very likely her mother was the real reason for the breakup. However, just the whole scene of the breakup and what she said to me is burned into my head.
So as you can see craig its been a year and seven months of no contact and despite having my own success story in terms of personal growth, i still think about her and miss her terribly from time to time. I dont think she'll ever come back despite the relationship between her and i being genuinely good. She was my best friend. Sometimes i feel like she hasnt come back because she hasnt had a healthy enough home/family life, her mom really did try sabotiging our relationship all the time, and i have a ton of horrific stories about the mom. There was also a significant amount of pressure on her from her family to go to college and be the 1st family member with a college degree. But other times i feel like she hasnt come back because she genuinely stopped loving me at the breakup, doesnt care about me, and doesnt want to see me or talk to me ever again. Was my ex saying she lost feeling for me just a way to put her walls up? Did she only say nice things to me at the breakup just so i would accept it? Well, I think woomen are more avoidant than men. Take my ex gf as example: In general, she was a really good girl: loving, caring, feminine, had the skills to do every household duty, was young (23 years), pretty, it made click for both of us in the beginning, she wrote me love letters, we said to be soulmates, it seemed to be love at first sight. We were in a long distance relationship for 1 year and everytime I drove there, 900km to meet her, she waited for me with homecooked food, 3 courses, made me tea, coffee, was caring etc.
Though, on the other side, the only thing that bothered me was that she was very avoidant, and in the end this is why she broke up too I think. She was like this the whole relationship, but I still wanted to work it out.
Example 1: I once went to her (she lives in Warsaw, me in Germany, 900km distance), I went there for 4 days. We had an argument in the city center and she decided to leave me on the street and just went home at 6pm (like "I dont want to see you now, I go home, bye"), instead of spending the rest of the evening together. I was there 4 days and she left me there standing like a clown.
Example 2: We once were together on vacation in March 2020, wanted to spend 9 days together after not seen each other for 9 days. We met in Berlin, which is in the middle of Warsaw and Fulda (city in Germany, where I live). After 4 out of 9 days, after we had an argument, she left me there standing in the hotel floor, taking a train back to Poland. I thought I would never hear from her again. 1 day later she wrote me like nothing happened, how happy she was that she went home and did it to "reset our emotions".
She never said sorry or realized how much she broke with such things.
She once broke up in April for the first time, because she couldn't live with my bad behaviour... Because I said that I expected her to make up for that running away in Berlin and going back there soon to do those things we missed during our 1st trip because of her. And that the relationship will be only back to normal if she makes up and shows effort. I was disappointed and sad because of her after that trip, that was my "bad behaviour", and expecting to fix the situation, that she caused...
1 week after that April breaking up, she came back and begged me to take her back and said that her feelings are still alive. I gave her another chance, since I am the type who prefers fixing instead of replacing someone like she never meant anything to me...
On 12th of July 2020, we had another argument, and after that, she just ghosted me and never replied back anymore, no goodbye, no it's over, no f*** off you German id***t, nothing.
She once said that we were soulmate and in the end, she could not even look into my eyes, but instead running away like in those examples I gave you before.
I think it is more common for a woooman to act like that, and not so common for men. :)
The problem is, that I still miss her so much, even after almost 8 months since 12th of July 2020. Funny when you think that she never wasted a thought about me in this time period. Once she broke up once in the past, she will do it in the future again, because she already showed before that she can't stay loyal to one way, also in rough times.
Everyone should be working to improve their attachment style, anxious type and avoidant types aren’t “healthy” attachment styles. You can point a finger at a certain one and generalize and place blame but at the end of the day anxious/avoidant are opposite ends of the same spectrum and neither are healthy.

Yeah, my ex girlfriend isn’t the type to reach out, because I asked her that question in the beginning of our relationship when she told me she saw one of her ex’s.
