1. Level hips and good stance - Slight knee bend to lower hips and make it free to move 2. Anchor the opposite foot - On a puch one foot provides solid contact with the ground 3. Set a fixed knee angle - Your leg of your anchored foot provides the pivot for action. The knee doesnt give in. 4. Set the elbow angle - When throwing a hook fix the elbow angle 5. Prepare shoulders and biceps - Warm up.
Without any doubt, the best boxing coach for amateur boxers all around the globe. I am not kidding, and I am not exaggerating. Just follow his advice: he'll bring out the best boxer you can be from whatever willpower you can find inside yourself, period.
I had problems with my rear hook and this solved it. I had no power with my rear hook and felt like I was stuck in concrete. But now I realize that I was crushing my hips by leaning forward. I might still be flawed but at least my rear hook feels powerful now Thank you JT, I've lost 40 pounds since October 1st with your content.
These are things that once you feel you can't believe how important they are. Then once you do you realise it all feels like less effort but needs much more practice.
Helps A lot!!! And yes, I felt my jab has lost power the last month or so. No MMA Class or mitt work time. Still going though..and class should be back soon. This helps so much with understanding Coach. I can understand that Beautiful shoulder pop so much better now. Thank you🤝🏼.
This way of explanation has helped my hooks so much! I was throwing with my shoulders and not rotating the body enough. I knew you had to put your body into punches and set your hips, but it didn't fully click for me until this video. Great work coach, thank you!
Such great nuances and details. I hadnt heard most of these explanations before and they really show how much experience youve had with different people.
This was extremely helpful, especially at the end talking about shoulder and bicep pressure and working in movements at the beginning of your session to deal with it.
And this is why Naoya Inoue is one of my favorite fighters of all time. Keeping your feet planted to generate power is great but moving away in a split second after doing that is what separate a traditional puncher from a special fighter.
There is a methodology of punching specialties that is pretty good to know. For instance, sinking/angling 15 degrees below the horizontal actually increases the impact/penetration of the punch by reducing some of the displacement. If U aim into that declining motion, it makes up for the person not being as well braced. Absorbing the punch requires them to be able to move back when hit (over-simplification of rolling with punch). It's more like driving a nail instead of getting the knock-back. U use the angle to root them more to receive more of that impact. It's most frequently used in abdominal or bladder-punching, diving into the bend of the hip-joint, or to hit in a follow-up strike in combination into a lowered opponent. And as for the stretches, U really need to warn up with more static stretches to warm those tendons up before swinging the arms forcefully back to build them up instead of treating them like a football player treats their knees. I'm from a Kung Fu background, but the mechanics are still similar, & building-exercises are valuable no matter what martial art U like. For some variant exercises to build up Ur hands, arms, & training for really efficient punching mechanics, find & study a practical self-defense Wing-Chun style. Look specifically for someone teaching/specialized in self defense, more specifically that has military or law enforcement students. Those are just signs, of course, but it shows they are at least more likely to be solid teachers of a working system.
That's useful and important Thank you I have a problem with my opponent while i am rolling or ducking he confuse me by up to down straight and hooks punches so what I have to do to avoide that ?
You have to keep a tight guard when you are ducking and keep looking forward at your opponent so you can counter. Also you can't make your head movement too predictable or else your opponent can time you easily
I can learn new moves pretty fast but when I try it out in sparing I can never seem to remember or do it, but when I remember what I was training I can feel myself forcing/rush myself to try what i learned… so I basically am a fast learner who can’t apply what I learned to anything without forcing myself to do.
Try super light and slow sparing with somebody you trust , you can ask them just to defend for a while, and ratchet it up from super slow to slow. Also it helps to know exactly the type of situation in which your tool makes sense . - Are you leading the fight is your opponent in a reactive mode, it might be requires for your attack( you will get a feel for this and can test with faints) - have you got a sense of distants and likely attacks of your opponent - have you got a sense of the speed and aggression of your opponent - have you taken note of where you’re vulnerable - also you may be able to perform a new technique when focusing a lot of your concentration there, but when there’s a lot more information to process and respond to , performing the movement becomes significantly more taxing, in order to reduce the effort required to perform said movement you need to practice huge amounts of repetition and increasingly add complimentary movements to integrate a complexity similar to sparing. - also your nervous system might be getting overloaded , find exercises and warm up routines that loosen you up(warming up to a beat helps) - You can try taking Vit B1/mag and Choline to help your nervous system better relay messages, it’ll help you become unstuck.
I was watching Roy Jones in slow motion and the hook punch is still difficult to understand. I thought the elbow/forearm angle was fused fixed positionally upon the delivery trajectory to the target and upon contact with the target area but after contact following through the forearm contracts back into the bicep. You seem to have the forearm/elbow angle fixed upon delivery, target contact, follow through, and return to guard stance position??,
For me I think that is the purpose of practicing a stance( for example in martial arts) to lock the distance and not overthrow punches. That will put you of balance.
Sinking can help in some ways, by giving you a solid base. They key is to be fully in your sunk down position just a split second before the shot connects, and hold that position by keeping the lead leg firm.

I mean there you have double defense line by default (tight guard and moving head out of centre on regular basis and none of that requires to have experience at reading body language since it's a passive defense instead of reactive) And until you become legit advanced fighter simply stepping in and being as aggressive as possible gonna be most effective by default (once again that goes at least until you become advanced one) ...
