Do I need to be overly concerned about elbow or bicep extension injuries when using 2lb or 3lb weights? I've been more comfortable with the weighted gloves, since my hands are hitting a solid target rather than snapping out into space. I've hyperextended an elbow before and the pain was worse than getting a rib cracked.

@@NathanStrafes you are right because im too lazy to film myself train so i could self correct, so a coach would help there. I actually have had some really great grappling and mma coaches but haven't really felt like going super hard the last few years. I do like going in the basement by myself though and training different boxing and muay thai strategies and techniques and i found that the tony jeffries videos really improved my punching, footwork, speed. Id still get whooped in a boxing match but im really curious of how much improvement i made studying and training these videos. 2lb dumb bell strategy works for me Tony, won lots of fights at me gym, I just leave ‘em in me gloves. I’ve found this increases my knockout power by 200%. Thanks again for the tips 😉. Joking aside, your spot on, I also play tennis and add weight to my racquet head and practice my swings, when I remove the weight to play my racquet feels as light as a feather and I’m able to generate much more racquet head speed to creat more spin. Cheers from a Brit living in Cartagena, Colombia.

@@QuantumFerret sports = body mechanics, putting it simply.
Usually, you want explosive power in your legs and up the kinetic chain, endurance, stamina, have solid joints and core, and that in pretty much every sports.
Maybe golf and bowling dont ask as much stamina but even then it still helps.

  • @JohnSmith-oe5kx

A tip that really helped me: Spend some time working on (and consciously thinking solely about) bringing your hand BACK to its starting position as fast as you can. Imagine an apple where your opponent's head would be. From your guard, snatch the apple as quickly as you can (finishing back in your guard). Because contact was no longer my focus, but merely the midpoint of what I was trying to accomplish, I found that the punch itself was considerably quicker.
I have found that it works far better to develop speed and add power than to learn to throw heavy and then try to get faster.

  • @MartinH81
    @MartinH81 2 роки тому +475

My kickbox coach taught me to also be relax when retracting after the punch. Loosen the fist slightly and don't over-do the pull with your biceps. Stay relax.
That sped up my speed greatly as well as increased my endurance. Less power needed for retracting, less fatigue, more power available for the punches themselves and for longer.

in my epxerience, just make a good fist, practicing over and over again, your wrist will become stronger over time but of course it will take time.
I give myself an additional 3 rounds punching heavy bag with bare knucle along with the other rounds which i punch with gloves, in those rounds I punch light, around 40% but I try to land with the last 3 kunckles because the bigger the surface, the less impact on your wrist, gradually it strengthen my wrist.
Punches with vertical fists also give you less impact on hand, so mix it up with the 2 knuckle punches you already know to decrease the chnaces of impact.
Also doing slow pushup with closed fist help strengthen the wrist as well. Of course, not over night, take some months to see it actually take effects.
      Good luck !

I always though that a good couch was a good boxer at one time in his past. Your the proof !!! The way you teach the art of boxing with your sense of humor intelligence and physical examples makes you want to jump out of your seat and start moving. I wish I had someone like you when I was younger to learn from. Love watching your videos God bless you and your family.

Man is so simple when he explains the basics on how to throw a faster punch. Not like other youtube channels taking forever just to show you 1 punch. Btw... great video 👍🙋‍♂️

New follower here! I"m 45 and I picked up boxing only 3 months ago. Sort of loved it all my life and watched all the big bouts back in the 90s and early 2000s. Point is, there are certain things I won't be doing as good as a younger fighter anymore so I can only think of getting better one step at a time. Speed is one of my concerns, the other one being footwork. Thanks for this video in particular, Tony!

Hi im jiri from finland i like your videos know lots of things you tell before but also getting new for your tips and get more motivation from your videos... i was left handed before accident learning box for orthodoks it helps me to change This because i born as bought handed and i have trained tkd and karate and muay thai my kicking sports stance has allways been diffrent than my boxing wrestling and judo stance so swifting stance came easier to me i work bought stances so i can box with swifting my stance for orthodox to southpaw and back.... im creating my own sport... which is like mma but very diffrent because im creating techniques you can do with single handed and thechniguess you can protect with one handed is allowed in this sports.... other hand is tied to your body.... its mixture of many sports and martialarts.... putting pices to gether..... you videos help me to improve the martialart im making and learning exercises i can use to improve my new martialart
