You can tell that the authenticity of MJW's commitment to Martial Arts has forged a silent force within him that comforts all who become the center of his attention. Humble and non-assuming, flexible yet solid, caring and respectful. The attributes of someone who uses his art to help others and protect those who can't protect themselves. A class act. I've always liked him primarily as a human first and secondly a creative source. He shares what he has as though you were family and you get the feeling that it's intentional as a important part of teaching and because he probably treats everyone with respect as part of his personal mantra. The reason why I like Michael Jai White martial arts movies is simply because in quite a few of his movies, he's teaching fans his form of martial arts. I remembered watching the Bruce Lee movie Game of Death. HIs vision of that movie was to teach fans his form of martial arts. It was so unfortunate of him passing at such a young age. The three scenes Bruce Lee was in late in the movie demonstrated his amazing martial arts skills.
I’ve always punched pretty naturally well because I came up playing baseball. My dad always told my punch through the ball with your top hand. It’s almost, mechanical speaking, exactly like throwing a straight right. It’s all in the core and having active hips. Pretty cool to see it explained so well!
Tbh i'm scared to punch with full force, i have a fear that my arm will come out the socket. At the moment my body can't handle the full brunt of the force from a full power punch so i started strength and endurance training. I can somewhat output more force than usual so that's a good thing
Just starting boxing and feeling like my jabs were all wonky and not fluid at all. This was incredibly helpful. Respect Mike! Thank you for putting this info out there.
Well don’t take advice from this guy He a movie star not a real fighter lol He might take a few classes and light spar in the gym but he definitely doesn’t know how to throw a punch He throws arm punches and hits like a girl If you throw punches like this guy throw for speed to set up a hard shot To punch hard you got to drop your weight and it’s a way you brace your hips and legs that lets your drop your weight onto your opponent while you are punching This guy a weenie just flexing his arm wit his shirt off lol First thing I look for is how they set there lower body when ever I see any punching tutorial You got to brace you hips and legs in a way that lets you drop your weight with you punches… while still being on your toes… in boxing you got to be able to fight off your toes… so you will be able to quickly react to what ever your opponent may come back with… You only focus on your arms they way he overly does it to make sure the position you are in when you punch But unlike this moron who really is just a tv character and not a fighter You supposed to focus on built in defense Instead of flexing your scapula to arm punch better like this moron You have to make sure the arm you punc with is blocking your chin and the other free hand is guarding the other side of your face and elbows in to protect against any return fire The way this tv star wannabe fighter over analyzes his arm for punching offensively is a dead give away he just a poser If anything you do that for defense If you want to focus on offense when punching then the power comes from how you brace your hips and legs to drop your weight If you choose to hit like a girl and arm punch like this fake wannabe poser do it for speed to disguise you setting weight for the big punch
This is great stuff. Please remember for those starting out that your bone density in your wrists and arms is low. It takes a few months to get it high enough to hit really hard. You naturally get it from striking for ages when you are starting out. I returned after a year and my wrists and arms couldn't take the impact that my technique could generate.
This is going to be great. Coming from a man that has walked this earth 40 years scared of every one, and not understanding your strength and size. JAis great noone needs to compare to anyone and claim whose better than who. JAis his own legend hes a great martial artist and looks like a very good man too i like jai.. listen the hate he got about bruce lee, listen if you ask bruce lee and put him on the spot, if he was being chinese hell be humble and kinda find a way to not upset the playing field, but if you put him on the spot im sure hed say he could be jai too... and JAi made valid points,,, because Bruce Lee was exceptional wihtout a doubt. but he did say and quoted "if i was 6"2 and 220lbs id rule the world" SO that tells you Bruce was aware of his size but he knew he was good and could find a way to beat anyone,, but reality is JAi has a huge size advantage and depending on how the fight went down, JAi as good as he is could beat Bruce... people say stories are fake ect, but these are world champions wiht EGos that claim Bruce was the best and a step a head. they swallowed their pride in saying that the great joe lewis envied bruce and talked alot of crap, only to later in life before he died and achieved alot himself, admit alot fo things... so bruce always knew, because there are alot bigger people, he could get hurt if he got hit, but bruce was far from stupid and a total genius lol.. but both guys are great and both guys hold themselves well are good characters... jai is his own legend, i think they wouldve been great friends, bruce wouldve loved jai, and learnt alot from jai aswell. i say this on behalf of Bruce lee fans haters, or Chinese people or whatever, bruce also quoted, "under the heavens we are all but one family" give some respect to JAi we are living in the last era or great martial artists that dedicate their life to traditnal martial arts, and have good character and teach people and guide people.. JAis a SIFU , he should be remember as a SIFU amognst the greatest of martial arts legend and not compared... I bring up BRuce hoepfully not to open wounds, but make people aware JAI and Bruce are both legit great martial artists, shouldnt compare but rather admire what they dedicated their lives too and maybe we can learn from the both of them..
@@Tank1 huge size does not guarantee victory, decent dmg + speed (for dodging and striking a few punches over time, which is Floyd may weather's tactic) is a way surer way to victory if this dude isn't fast enough to hit Bruce then he won't even be able to dmg him much
@@M.I.D.ORIGINAL youre just saying things we already know. Bruce lee is incredible i still havent seen anyone in this era or before that intercepts like he does. His timing speed and precision is rediculous.. Even Jai i dojt believe he has that ability to intercept.. To counter maybe,, but that zen like psychic ability ive not seen in anyone.. But still bruce was 5"7 and 140lbs.. Hed murder any average guy regardless of size. But Jai is legit.. I dont see the zen like precision in Jai, but hes got great technique. But you really nees to see Jai do a free spar like what bruce done.. No choreographed crap just allow someone free attack and see how good his timing distancing ect is, cause technique means nothing if you dont have them.

The part about punching at the end of the body's rotation is absolutely correct. Many people punch too fast, starting the punch before the body starts to rotate, and accelerating too fast, ending with a fast punch that impacts before the rest of the body is in position to develop maximum force. Force= Mass x acceleration. Many people choose acceleration, speeding their arms from start to impact, but neglecting to rotate their core quickly and early enough. The result is a fast punch that has only the weight of the striking arm behind it, without the mass of the rest of the body. A better strike is like Michael said, to hit at the the end of rotation, when you can the body's rotation to the arm's mass, and then add in the ground reaction from the back foot at impact.
Wow Michael what do you do to stay looking so young. I remember you. When Larry Rogers had to work as a fireman, you taught the class. I still remember that white Volkswagen rabbit you owned. You are an awesome martial artist instructor. Your teachings are engraved in my memory. I remember you taking time to correct my stance. My knees bothered me so much and I asked you for your opinion and you took the time to correct my stance and the way I was placing my feet. I always listened as you taught. I remember how you showed how to strike without flenching in order for the opponent not to see it coming or when sparing you showed us how to stomp our feet and yell in order to startle our opponent and get that point through. Man I miss Top Ten Karate studio and those days you were our instructor. Your older than me but look 10 years younger than me. God bless you and keep up the great work.
Arriess lanss when I was 18 yrs old I started taking karate at a school named Top Ten Karate studio in New Haven Ct, he was one of the instructors. When I was there he already did Toxic Avenger 2. When the owner/ instructor sensei Larry Rogers had to work as a firemen, Michael White was our instructor. He was and still is a great instructor. These videos show that he is a true master. A funny story I remember was that he was trying out for Newjack city, the role he was trying out was a Cuban detective character. He had to learn a Cuban accent for the part. He asked me for help. I tried and I finally gave up and said I’m Puerto Rican born and raise in the U.S and don’t have an accent and can’t help. Then the next time he taught class he told me he didn’t get the part and he told me Ice T the rapper got it, well I guess they decided to get rid of the accent for IceT. I also remember him doing a commercial for Burger-king and they had him get a haircut with a shape of a biscuit. We kind of razed him about it and he laughed and said if you got paid $50,000 would you get that haircut. I was like hell yeh. I’m not sure if it was 50K but I know it was a nice stack of cash. The man is a true martial artist. He knows a lot of different styles with black belts in them to boot. He is in phenomenal shape and must be drinking from the fountain of youth. This incredible artist is literally a true artist in the martial arts. If this guy opened a can of whop ass on someone they would truly get that high quality ass whipping. I’m a witness to his authentic knowledge of his art. When he taught we listened.
Funkyfreaks27 YT Hollywood has. It is ridiculous that we have not seen him in more mainstream movies. I feel like we are being cheated out of more spectacular action films because we don’t have a real martial artist and actor like MJW on more of those films.
I'm shocked he is grounded and not all Hollywood. Like the training space, rough and primal. They say " If you are Humble, it's easier to connect with the masses and you are able to learn new things." Keep it going. Gets all us regular people motivated to get in fight shape! Train hard everyone!
Because Spawn was a major hit with the children video games, T shirts, etc you would think this will be great but quietly religious leaders protested this Hellspawn character also he was too strong and hot for Hollywood
I haven't finished the vid yet, but I just had to say this. I remember watching never back down 2 and it was this scene where they were talking about kicking power so the guy kicks the bag and makes it move thinking he did something; a few seconds later you see Mr. White come through kick the bag and punctured it. This video made realize how he is really well versed and trained in the martial arts and how he incorporates his teachings within his movies. I salute you good sir. God Bless.
@ smh, clearly you missed the point of my comment. I know it was part of the movie, what I am saying is in that same movie he teaches the same thing as he does in real life; except in the movie it was a little more exaggerated because of course it was a movie so of course the bag was going to bust open smh. Have a blessed day sir.
Kicking a Bag,and even puncturing it, is beyond pointless, because organs and skin has water behind it. A human being is going to react also after every throw/jab/kick towards them----Being good at tapping bags will not make you a REAL FIGHTER.It may condition you,but its not the entire equation when it comes to producing a good fighter. This guy is making money and putting himself on a platform for young people who are ignorant or crappily informed with fighting. Michael is a Fraud-----period.Id like to see him go and do a podcast with Joe Rogan and tell him he is real,...I would laugh my ass off all day...….This guys a fool.
I haven't practiced martial arts for years now. 20+ years I'm sure. It is great to see an explanation that justifies the mechanics of the way we were taught to punch, and further expands upon it.
I wanted to do minimum effort with maximum result, so rather than leave a like a ruin your 69 likes, I figured I’d write to say...I laughed at this comment!

I still watch Spawn from time to time. He made that movie and his conditioning was straight legit. Glad to see him doing so well and helping others learn beneficial techniques that are so valuable.
Except for a few key differences, as Bruce Lee took massive inspiration from Jack Dempsey. He used the falling step to generate power for his 6 inch punch and used his last three knuckles, rather than the first two, in order to keep the punch "Pure". Purity in punching means the striking knuckles are facing the same direction as the moving body weight. The details can be found in Jack Dempsey's 1950 book, Championship Fighting and Aggressive Defense.
@@jordanmartens5591 Bruce also said the vertical fist is able to generate more force because of its alignment with the rest of the arm unlike horizontal fist found in karate

Not quite. Stewart is a professional ARCHITECT and is rather slender, skinny and actually very mellow. This guy is like a giant in comparison, plus: mjw's whole characterization is usually bad tough guy, so quite the opposite of an Architect. The only thing in common is he's black. The actual GL is usually bigger than john Stewart btw and the real GL isn't even that big.
threeaklok : dude if you told MJW he was not big he'd correct you sternly. He's extremely proud of his large mass, he worked hard to get his size. You are blind if you don't think he's big lol, he literally played MIKE TYSON!! On top of that, he doesn't fit the character of an Architect, he fits someone military, bouncer, boxer, etc Completely wrong casting idea
Many years ago I used to take boxing lessons, did it for ten years. (I'm 64 now) But my trainer never taught me the powerful punch methods as described by Michael J White -- which is why I never had any power in my punches. Thank you Mr. White! Seriously! I need to lose weight and recover from a bad heart -- so I am going to "train" myself at home using Mr. White's excellent advice.
We're the same age and I had a damaged heart five years ago. It hurt when I exerted myself too much. Well three years ago I started eating carnivore, mostly beef. I lost a lot of fat and gained muscle and my chest doesn't hurt anymore. I also started working out with weights and kettlebells. Good luck, it's possible to get healthier and stronger.
Mr. Jai, you're the man. The amount of sheer respect I had for your work throughout the years is unmeasurable, and being able to watch these older videos now, feels like one-on-one seminars to me 👌
Thank you Michael for all the action scenes from movies and youtube lessons you already share with the world. Now that I've learned the basics of Karate (inclunding some katas), I'm learning the Kyokushin style, really agressive with powerful strikes and a lot of elbow work, also strong legs supporting the released energy at every kick or punch, like Case v/s Braga in Never Back Down 3💪🏼💪🏼
This is indeed the most powerful karate. I also did it for 10 years, at my highest level, I trained three times a day, six day per week. 10 Km runs, 1000 knuckle push ups, and 10 minutes split in the morning. Afternoon, trained at the dojo, In the evening trained again alone at home The reason I stopped (beside the enemies I generated through out that who always wanted to tests my skills,) it was the prayers that we did before and after training. When someone who used to study kyokushin karate explained to me the prayers, I stopped that day and then I was attacked (spiritual), for a couple of months. But now I am fine, thanks to my Lord Jesus Christ. I am not against training if you like to train, just be careful of prayers.
@@everydaycounts1562 What do you mean by training but be careful with the prayers? Btw what kind of training would you do? I am thinking about training for martial arts but for now I want to work on my physical strength independently.

Thanks Brother Michael.

I cannot thank you enough for this instruction. I remember, years ago, hitting a heavy bag, thought I was getting good, and I sprained my wrist so bad it hurt for months. I'm a new fan Mr. White, thanks again.

So I tell you what, when your so called revolution starts, you call him and he'll be right down front showing you how it's done, but until then you need to shut the fuck up when grown folks is talking.

Yo mr.white

It comes from the whole body
wow never thought of it that way i did the motion and yeah its legit like punching through the ball, ur dads a smart man!!
The power comes mainly from the legs

He is talking about the intricacies of power in punching and is not being violent
How old are you?
Position and movement will help also
Well don’t take advice from this guy
He a movie star not a real fighter lol
He might take a few classes and light spar in the gym but he definitely doesn’t know how to throw a punch
He throws arm punches and hits like a girl
If you throw punches like this guy throw for speed to set up a hard shot
To punch hard you got to drop your weight and it’s a way you brace your hips and legs that lets your drop your weight onto your opponent while you are punching
This guy a weenie just flexing his arm wit his shirt off lol
First thing I look for is how they set there lower body when ever I see any punching tutorial
You got to brace you hips and legs in a way that lets you drop your weight with you punches… while still being on your toes… in boxing you got to be able to fight off your toes… so you will be able to quickly react to what ever your opponent may come back with…
You only focus on your arms they way he overly does it to make sure the position you are in when you punch
But unlike this moron who really is just a tv character and not a fighter
You supposed to focus on built in defense
Instead of flexing your scapula to arm punch better like this moron
You have to make sure the arm you punc with is blocking your chin and the other free hand is guarding the other side of your face and elbows in to protect against any return fire
The way this tv star wannabe fighter over analyzes his arm for punching offensively is a dead give away he just a poser
If anything you do that for defense
If you want to focus on offense when punching then the power comes from how you brace your hips and legs to drop your weight
If you choose to hit like a girl and arm punch like this fake wannabe poser do it for speed to disguise you setting weight for the big punch
Sounds like you might need a better coach.
he is young enough to take fookin advice from an actor LMAO@@foreignwarren7361
This is great stuff. Please remember for those starting out that your bone density in your wrists and arms is low. It takes a few months to get it high enough to hit really hard. You naturally get it from striking for ages when you are starting out. I returned after a year and my wrists and arms couldn't take the impact that my technique could generate.
Thanks a lot. I will use this

JAis great noone needs to compare to anyone and claim whose better than who. JAis his own legend hes a great martial artist and looks like a very good man too i like jai.. listen the hate he got about bruce lee, listen if you ask bruce lee and put him on the spot, if he was being chinese hell be humble and kinda find a way to not upset the playing field, but if you put him on the spot im sure hed say he could be jai too... and JAi made valid points,,, because Bruce Lee was exceptional wihtout a doubt. but he did say and quoted "if i was 6"2 and 220lbs id rule the world" SO that tells you Bruce was aware of his size but he knew he was good and could find a way to beat anyone,, but reality is JAi has a huge size advantage and depending on how the fight went down, JAi as good as he is could beat Bruce... people say stories are fake ect, but these are world champions wiht EGos that claim Bruce was the best and a step a head. they swallowed their pride in saying that the great joe lewis envied bruce and talked alot of crap, only to later in life before he died and achieved alot himself, admit alot fo things... so bruce always knew, because there are alot bigger people, he could get hurt if he got hit, but bruce was far from stupid and a total genius lol.. but both guys are great and both guys hold themselves well are good characters... jai is his own legend, i think they wouldve been great friends, bruce wouldve loved jai, and learnt alot from jai aswell.
i say this on behalf of Bruce lee fans haters, or Chinese people or whatever, bruce also quoted, "under the heavens we are all but one family"
give some respect to JAi we are living in the last era or great martial artists that dedicate their life to traditnal martial arts, and have good character and teach people and guide people..

Bruce lee is incredible i still havent seen anyone in this era or before that intercepts like he does. His timing speed and precision is rediculous.. Even Jai i dojt believe he has that ability to intercept.. To counter maybe,, but that zen like psychic ability ive not seen in anyone..

One of the best and most underrated martial artist ever
Ken Lek .cool you made a commenting explaining exactly what Michael white is saying and doing lmao
You know him fr fr?

This is what Bruce Lee was talking about with his 6 inch punch and everything else... 40 year's ago...
Jack Dempsey was talking about all this stuff significantly earlier.

I lost a lot of fat and gained muscle and my chest doesn't hurt anymore. I also started working out with weights and kettlebells. Good luck, it's possible to get healthier and stronger.

How’s your journey going brother? Has your training and health improved since you posted this comment?
Mr. Jai, you're the man.
The amount of sheer respect I had for your work throughout the years is unmeasurable, and being able to watch these older videos now, feels like one-on-one seminars to me 👌
Love this! Black Dynamite!
Didn't know Spawn had a UA-cam channel. . . Awesome!!!
MrUseless247 lmao

@@xIceman216x the concept was still cool dont hate, appreciate.
Got that movie on laser disc
Afternoon, trained at the dojo,
In the evening trained again alone at home
The reason I stopped (beside the enemies I generated through out that who always wanted to tests my skills,) it was the prayers that we did before and after training.
@@MujoOfTheMind he is a troll. Dont believe him💀
hop off
Look into jujitsu and Silat
This man is my hero. I'd consider it the greatest honor of my life to be taught by him. How can one man be so lethal. So humble. So kind. And an amazing instructor all in one?

If they bring an actual Luke Cage movie to the theaters I would not mind this guy playing him
Yes, he would make an awesome "powerman" (Luke Cage)! I used to read that comic when I was a kid.
Give Luke cage his martial arts ability’s he would be way better
Are we the first to sign the petition
That would be sick
I agree. He's been criminally underutilized by Hollywood. He would make a great 007 or Jason Bourne type character also.
"if u see my forearm......"
me: *YES I HAVE BEEN STARING AT IT SINCE THE START OF THE VIDEO*
Thank you. I just showed this to my 8 year old. Well taught.
The smallest bits of info given by this man GOES A LONG WAY. Wow I never thought about the fist thing. Keep up the good work Mr White! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
He should play Jax in next Mortal Kombat movie.
True that man.... John Cena as Stryker, Ryan Reynolds as Johnny cage and Katherine Heigl as Sonya Blade
He actually played jax in the official mortal kombat web show: Mortal Kombat Legacy!
@@breakops5339 oh yeah I almost forgot.... That show was pretty forgettable honestly
There should never be another mortal combat movie.
@@ibewillow the first was great but the second just failed
One of the best instructional videos I've ever watched on making a proper fist and striking with maximum power. Im going to be boxing soon and this is very beneficial. Anyone who does combat sports should watch this video and apply it when striking
Trained this and has improved my punches by 100%. Respect to the GOAT MJW!!
Tried this on Peter Parker.....
Ended up hitting a locker instead, now my hand is broken.
