  • What foul creature will the grinning skull usher forth? There's only one way to find out.
Be mindful that I'd like to experience as much of this fresh as possible. No spoilers please.
    Give tips when:
    - I ask for them.
    - I'm doing something wrong.
    - I could be doing something better.
    DON'T give tips when:
    - They spoil the surprise or joy of discovery.
    - They're about things I haven't seen, unlocked, or otherwise shouldn't know about yet.
    - Finding out the hard way seems like more fun ;)

My loadout would be sword and shield for up close and personal. Secondary would be the bow for those lovely long range sneak attacks. The sledge for those inevitable dungeon crawls. I only use the axe if I have to do some wood felling. Also the sledge is useful for clearing shrubs and saplings, also found out by accident that it is useful for smashing buried objects like boats and stuff like that. I agree that the cost of crafting is totally out of proportion for the item. Basically you use a half ton of refined iron to make a 2.5 lb helmet or sword. Something is wrong with the whole system methinks.

I do like a sword and shield combo, but that axe is too damn handy.
Yeah, the crafting costs could be toned down I reckon, they’re a little over the top. 20 for the upper and even lower body, sure. 20 for a helmet? Gtfoh 🤣

Good job on Bonemass! I don't like boss fights as such, so I usually just stand on the skull altar wearing full root armor and shoot old Boney down with frost arrows. Quick job and saves both preparing the area and all the gross combat mess on the ground, but you need some prior knowledge to try that. So the first time is a melee fight anyway. About weapons and favourites. It absolutely depends on player's preferences and play-style. It is good to try all kinds of weapons in the first play-through, but not necessary to get skills in all of them. When I started to play Valheim, I just tested most of them at broze/iron ages, decided which ones suited me best, and then later proceeded with just 3 weapons. I started with an axe as main in my first game, then (temporarily believing mace fans on the internet) different mace-class weapons - but got quite disappointed in the end. Finally it turned out that for me the best combination is one-handed sword+ knife (optional but useful) and bow. In other words: slash/pierce + ranged/pierce; with that sufficiently skilled up I can happily forget about blunt weapons. So, sword is definitely my absolutely top favourite melee weapon partly because of its damage/speed/stamina balance, and partly because of some of the nice mid/late-game swords that I particularly like (but I still admit that axe is very handy too, especially in the early game when swords are not accessible yet). I dislike big two-handed weapons and definitely not a fan of AoE weapons, but that does not mean they are bad. They are just not compatible with my most comfortable play-style, so I almost do not use them (at least not in combat) - and do not feel any discomfort or shortage because of that. In Valheim you can get the same result with almost any combination of weapons just with a different play-style and sufficient skills. P.S. Funny thing, my first (and last) reaction after I made the same big iron battle axe and tried the first couple of swings with it was "why tf I just totally wasted my precious iron on this crap?". Talk about preferences 😀

I didn’t consider the stamina requirements of the axe vs the sword, that’s a good point.
Yeah, I still want to play around and test stuff but there are already clear staples which I won’t leave home without.

Farewell swamp, you put up a good fight, but in the end you were no match for Blonde

Nicely done taking care of Bonemass. Yeah, without poison resist mead its not a fun date! It will be nice to get out of the swamp and somewhere not so gloomy.
You looked at the Sacrificial Stone for the next boss . . . but didn't actually read it. 😉

Cheers. Yeah, you’d need to be much more careful without poison resistance. With the upgraded armour and poison resistance mead, poison damage is trivial. Bone mass still hits like a truck but at least he doesn’t stagger.

      You can block his attacks.@@Blondefire_HeyBlondie

I figured, but I didn’t have a mace, and blocking them with the sledge would probably have been painful.

By all means try every weapon,
you know, to find the ones that feel the best.
But I wouldn't recommend mastering every one,
    that'd take way too long.
As you pointed out there are 3 damage types,
so as long as you have something that covers those,
    you're pretty much golden.
    Archery is it's own thing.
As you can augment the raw piercing damage
with different elemental arrows, i.e fire.
This can make archery a viable option
    against enemies that would otherwise
wear out your bow against their pierce resistance.
As for what's weak to what, I'll not spoil the discovery.
It's nice of the devs to let people play Valheim
anyway that they want to, by making all paths viable.
As for my preferred load out,
can't tell you, it's full of spoilers.
Look forward to you discovering them.
1:01:06 That's using the old noodle box.
Fights don't have to be anywhere near fair
if you can engineer yourself an advantage :D
    Congrats on beating this boss,
and good luck with finding the next one.

I appreciate the validation on the weapons, cheers. The only other difference is attack arc and timing. I appreciate that they’re all different, but as you’ve pointed out and I’m starting to feel, one of each dmg type should be fine.
I’ll never drop archery, I love it in any game which allows it.
Can’t wait to uncover the new weapons 👀
I’ve noticed that boss pathing tends to struggle around obstacles, and with all the mobs he spawns you need some sort of cover. Too bad leveling the ground was pointless 😂
Cheers, I’m excited to finally be moving on!

You should make a full upgrade sword, overall it's the best weapon. You'll see. Battleaxes are good for decoration :p Suggestion: turn down your old base for wood.

I’m partial to sword and shield. I do want tot craft all weapons and upgrade them. Perhaps the weapon loadout will change with biomes 😉
Yeah, full decom of the old base is on the list. Could potentially do it will completing some other ship-bound tasks.

I use the one handed clubs, axes and bow. Rarely bother with knives. swords, atgiers, etc. As long as I don't die often, I will have 3 weapon types with 70+ skill levels, which allows for more damage output late game. There is no need to use every weapon, unless you simply want to try them all out.

    • @Blondefire_HeyBlondie
      @Blondefire_HeyBlondie  2 місяці тому

That’s what I’m starting to realise. I was told early on that it was imperative to learn all weapons, but there are only 3 damage types, and the only real difference is attack arcs and timing. I’ll strip the loadout down once I’ve played with the weapons a little more.

You haven't missed anything . . . you haven't unlocked the Level 5 Workbench upgrade yet. Need to find new materials in another biome.

Save so much time gathering stone by taking down all the buildings you can find in black forest and portal the story ne back
2 iron for a stone cutter and a portal, you will have boxes of stone in no time

Not a bad call. Anywhere with good stone access is also on the chopping block. Some areas in swamps have a surprising number of rocks lying around.
