I have been playing Valheim since it first came out and I still learned things from your video. Excellent series and fully recommended to anyone who plays the game.
Big like to this video. Very few content creators know how to make a good noob guide. Oftentimes it seems like they are more interested in flexing their knowledge of niche or overly-specific details beyond the need-to-know of fresh beginners, than they are of stating and restating the fundamentals until it sticks. Clearly you put thought into the mind of a new player, and executed the video in a highly effective show-not-tell way. Well done!
Sorry for commenting on so many of these but wanted to let you know that thanks to your noob video I’ve finally convinced my wife to give valheim a try so thank you

Sorry I missed this comment for so long! I completely agree- smooth play, amazing lighting, charming art style. A great sandbox with real challenge. Are you still playing?
I got the game yesterday and was a bit confused on how to play. Now me and my friends won’t be so confused. Thanks this video was great and easy to understand.
I don't know if it's been updated (haven't played this game in a while) but you could also use the build mode to destroy the wall and instantly drop the beehives when I last played.
Yea, it’s still that way. I didn’t want to confuse new players by destroying part of the house and then rebuilding it to get the beehive. Still, I should have mentioned that approach. Thanks for taking the time to offer that tip! You are correct 👍
Appreciate people like you taking the time to explain everything to those looking for information, but I think that's part of the beauty of the game is getting lost and learning what you can actually do and what to do.
I don’t disagree at all. That’s how I approached the game myself. The best part to me was finding a new item to get a new recipe [hopefully]. Then I had my daughter come to me because she had no idea what to do. It was when I jumped in her world to show her that I realized how much there was to know if you had no idea where to start. That’s why I decided to make these deep tutorials. I just don’t want people to miss out on this great game because it fails to explain itself. 🤷♂️
@@gamestar.nation there really is and it can be overwhelming. That's why I appreciate the ppl out there like yourself. It's a huge undertaking to explain the ins and outs of this game for sure.

This video is great. I feel like the negative comments are shill/fans of bigger UA-camrs that make Valheim content. All tutorials have a bunch of talking. And you did just fine explaining beginner tips for Valheim. Keep doing your thing. The only critique I would imagine the haters are alluding to is cutting down the video via editing and punching in your voice over to save time for the viewer( although this takes more time from you). To remedy that on our end would be to just watch the video at a faster playback speed. Thank you for your tutorial!
Thank you for your kind words and encouragement! Also, for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. I’m not worried about the opinions of random people, but I consider all criticism. This video is long, but it’s cut down from about 3.5 hours of footage. I had already removed quite a bit of content but didn’t want to sacrifice anymore. This game is so wild to drop you in literally with little instruction and then bombard you with enemies 🫠🫠🫠🫠 I tried the preview and I want to base build but it seems so hard. Hopefully this video clears it up for me 😅

You are quite welcome! Thanks for choosing my video to orient yourself. Valheim is a great game. One of the best survival games currently, imo. Once you get the hang of it, I'm sure you'll agree 😉👍
AMAZING VIDEO!! I just recently got valheim and was so lost, the birds dont really help when you need them, I would much rather prefer this video for new users like me!!!! THANK YOU!!! You have earned my subscription. ❤

In real life, perhaps. Each entity of smoke in Valheim only lasts so long before it dissipates. With that high channel in the ceiling, it catches the smoke and holds it until it deletes. Smoke never has a chance to fill up enough to drop down to my level.
I've handled my campaign almost exclusively on my own so far. Taking it slow, a few dozen hours in, just got my iron set and some decent weapons. Two very firm lessons the game has taught multiple times now are these: Always stay alert, and never get complacent. I don't know if its just my luck, but Valheim seems to know when I'm getting cocky and has never failed to capitalize on that. It always winds up some nightmarish curve ball and I've been put in some deep holes because of it; I'd honestly love to join a Discord just so I can share the horror stories. That aside, this is one of the most addicting games I've played in quite some time and I don't regret a minute of it.
@@gamestar.nation Very, very much my experience, yes. I know have the heavy silver set (Wolf Armor, sick as hell looking) and some awesome weapons but Valheim did not stop with the sucker punches while I was working on that. Getting stuck up on the mountains after nightfall not knowing what you're in for up there...let's just say I screamed 🤣
Note: that giant bird isn't a valkyrie. That's actually Hugin, one of 2 of Odin's main patron Ravens. ( Odin is also known as the Raven God) They can travel freely between realms, and Odin uses them as his eyes in the skies so to speak.
What is the link to the intro supposed to mean? That doesn't prove anything except that you really don't know. @Darren Hurst is completely right. The player character are the valkyries referenced in the intro not the ravens. Anybody that's looked into Odin's lore for less than 5 minutes would get this. Are you gonna correct your subscribers so nonchalantly like that, without even checking if your right first? Edit: and to be even more correct with norse mythology the valkyrie would be spirits watching over the einherjar (fallen warriors) that Odin sent to conquer various lands. Valheim being the setting of the game and unique to it. Hugin and Mugin are Odin's ravens, look em up. P.S Useful guide btw
This might fall on deaf ears idk but i think the birds are actually supposed to be Valkyries, but visually their design in the game seem to take inspiration from and old swedish kids movie called "Ronja Rövardotter". In this movie they are just monsters, but the similarity is striking. (google: "Vildvittror Ronja Rövardotter" and see for yourself (= I think this is pretty likely as the game is published by a swedish company (Coffee Stain Studios) and there are several other callbacks to swedish culture in the game; Midsommer hats, neck, maypole and so on.... My guess is that the "tutorial bird" is one of Odins ravens, i could be wrong though.
@@Chonk666 Ah, that's so cool! I knew the valkyrie looked familiar, but I just couldn't put my finger on why! They scared me half to death as a kid "Nu skal blodet flyta!"😆 I don't know what Darren and the Proffessor are talking about, but they are just flat-out wrong. The tutorial ravens are _explicitly labelled_ as Hugin and Munin. Nor is the player character a valkyrie; though you spend your time in Valheim doing many chores, escorting slain warriors to the afterlife is not one of them. There is someone who does this, though: the bird-lady from the intro. She brings your slain body to the 10th world to fight on Odin's behalf. Ergo, she is a valkyrie, and you are an einheri. This is obvious to anyone who 1) knows the old Norse stories 2) has basic reading comprehension, and 3) _actually watched the dang intro._
@@N-cromancerdamn you were convincing, I almost believed you. After checking out that link it seems you are the one who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Odin sent Valkyries to scour the battlefields and find fallen warriors. These fallen warriors are the player characters and the Valkyries are the birds who bring the fallen warriors to Valheim. It may not be accurate in terms of what Valkyries are but that’s what they seem to be by all accounts in the game. No wonder Rob didn’t bother responding… what a stupid comment.
You could do with out any spoilers on The Complete Beginner's Guide. I am solo running the game 4 months after this video for perspective. So when I saw some of the other creatures, I never saw before on 'The Complete Beginner's Guide' I felt like I needed to say that you did me wrong bro. Your voice tone is good my guy. +1 vt
OK, I see where you might be disappointed to see a small glimpse of what lay ahead. Sorry if this video ruined anything for you. I included the things that originally drew me to the game. The first time I saw a trailer with a troll in it, I was like, "Oh, I'm playing that!". I can see how you might want to go in completely blind though. Just know, you aint seen nuthin' yet 😉
Watching a video about a game and then Complaining that the video shows the game? If you don’t like spoilers don’t watch videos about the game, that choice is on you.
Dude I did NOT know that thing about the wind. I would wonder why sometimes the deer randomly notice me. Also the jump attack is such a good tip. I think I'm gonna watch this whole series because I'm currently doing a hard run and there's some really great tips in here xd
Hey! Great video! I’m watching it as a starting point in anticipation of its release on Xbox game pass. Can’t wait to dive in. I’ve recently decided to quit playing DayZ and this is what I’ve been waiting for.
I'll be honest man, it's been a long time since I've played a game this well designed. It fires on all cylinders, for real! Especially if you're into survival games. But be warned, it might not be as thrilling as DayZ with it lacking real pvp. The multiplayer aspect of Valheim is very much aimed at co-op. PvP is possible but not common. Hit me up if you have any questions
@@gamestar.nation it’s set up to release on 3/14. Honestly, I’m not worried about lack of pvp. I almost always play on hardcore pve servers in DayZ. If I have any issues I plan definitely ask here. Thanks bud! Just hit that sub button too.
Hey brother, I really enjoyed these "How to" videos. I know there's other videos going over the Swamp, but please please make one for the Swamp and onward! Please! Why'd you stop here? Let's goooo!
Great introduction to the game. I am just started and am to the point of going to the first boss but am not good at kiting but am hoping to get it this time around.
You can upgrade the leather armor and shield, eat good food and stand toe-to-toe with him. Just run away from him if your health drops too low. He’s not too mean. If you get a chance, let me know how the fight goes. Thanks for watching and commenting! I hope the video helps. Good luck 🍀👍
I have had this game in my Steam Library for a while now. I played arund 10 hours I believe, but I will be jumping into the game for real this time, but I'm completely lost. Aaaand that's why I'm here xD
Welcome aboard! As questions pop up, feel free to toss them in the comments section of any of my videos. I’ll get back to you as soon as I see them. More tutorial videos coming soon! Thanks for taking the time to post! Valheim is a great game if you’re into the survival genre. Glad you’re giving it a chance 👍
I really enjoyed your video, great job in explaining. I have had the game ana played up to max lvl gear before mistlands. Coming back now and wanted to refresh and this clicked the boxes. I didn't notice in the video if you mentioned the dodge roll (block + jump) or (block + jump + direction) I find it helpful for most bosses and trolls but I may have just missed that part. Great work and I'm looking forward to more videos!
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. I am almost finished with part 2 to this video- the Black Forest/Bronze Age and it just so happens I have a fight with a troll where I discuss the dodge roll, so good call! The video is already past due, but should be out this coming week. Aiming for Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest. Thanks for taking the time to comment and for your support! 👍
Thanks for this helpful video dude, I didn't know you can sneak up on animals like that! I spent most of my time throwing my spear at them, running to pick it up & throw it again LOL
Hey, that works too. Once I have a ranged weapon, I usually prefer doing that. It sucks to sneak all the way up on them just for them to turn around and spot you when you get close
I played a while ago to past the second boss but forgot, got on beat the first boss and have a NICE base, but I got lost on what to do after this to progress and be successful in the dark forest and so on. thank you, great tutorial.
Awesome! Glad to be of help! It takes me way to long to put these videos out, but I am working on the swamps currently. Hoping to launch it this coming week! Keep an eye out for it 👍
@@gamestar.nation thank you! I had watched the second video and im about to beat the second boss with full bronze. Ready for the swamps :) can’t wait I’m on holiday too so thank you for the upcoming video as well.
I know this is an old series but in case anyone is watching it like me, there is a much easier way to get beehives. Put down your workstation and then just break the wall or roof part where the beehive is attached with your hammer and it will drop on the ground.
you have a list of Seeds? is there a difference from playing the Default?? Think far as a seen best Beginner Guide good work, i played but not for a while and i learned things i didn't know. will you be making more? because ur level of explaining is detailed many leave crucial things out.
Thank you for the kind words! I do not have a list of seeds but they are simply random worlds that happen to have interesting aspects to them. I am currently working on the follow-up to this video covering the Black Forest/ Bronze Age. It’s less than a week away from finished, but I’ve had real world distractions slowing it down. I really appreciate you taking the time to support the video and encouraging me through your comment! Thanks!! 👍
@@gamestar.nation : yeah i know these Real world distractions, but hey when ever UR ready, to make another guide especially that Velhiem is one of the most Played games by many i am such there will be tons of beginners including my self to sought out these video you make GL👍🏻
It's worth telling new folks that Plains are to be given a wide berth. On Day 5 or so, if you run a little bit into Mountain to collect a deer or whatever, you see the freezing and leave. The problem with Plains is that it looks like a savanna version of Meadows. Good visibility, hey, why not land the raft and look around a little?
I’m glad you did too! Welcome to Valheim!! I’ve been so excited for the game pass release, this is such a good game! Needs more players. I’m currently uploading the follow up to this video with a plan to launch tomorrow. Keep an eye out for it!
I stopped playing because I couldn't figure out how to play. Like leveling up the work station and upgrading. Never fought the first boss or anything... I'm giving it another go and learning so much, only looking up guides as I go as to learn only when I'm stuck making the game really enjoyable
Awesome! Glad to hear you gave it another shot and are starting to appreciate the game! Hit me up if you have any questions not covered in the videos. Good luck out there! 👍
when I first started it took me so long to figure out how to craft with the hammer 😅 but besides that it an amazing game! Thanks for the guide it going to help me build my server up
The help/tutorial system in this game is really bad. The same trend the last ten years is to produce a game without a good tutorial. I appreciate your help. Your video helped me out with a few important story progression items.
I was literally chasing the deer and hoping for the best lol. I managed to kill a couple this way but it was rather frustrating, TY for explaining how to get them.
So I'm not seeing how i can use the workbench to repair. It keeps telling me the station is too exposed. Whats the point of needing a whole built room when i can't gather enough wood with the starting stone axe and have to have multiple broken ones before i can repair my first one?
Yea, it's not perfect. Don't bother going out of your way to repair a stone axe. Just make a new one if it's easier. Better weapons though are worth repairing. The roof rule doesn't make much logical sense. They will be releasing an update in the future that will allow you to uncheck any restrictions you don't like when making a new world though.
This answered a ton of questions i had. Thanks!!! One question I had was this: Do animals have specific spawn areas or areas where they graze? And if so do the stock of animals keep replenishing there? I'm asking because I'm starting to see I'm gonna need to kill a lot of boars for leather strips. I have my house on a hill overlooking an open field where boars frequent. If I were to slaughter the boar one by one, do they replenish, or would I need to go out and find more boars? In newer areas? Same with deer. I found an area where deer are but unfortunately I scared them off. Will they come back to that area? Thanks. Loved the video as I just started playing right when it came onto xbox games pass. Subbed and liked. Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Great question and one I over-looked! Animals will respawn and deer you scare off will rotate back once they calm down. When it comes to boars specifically, there are rune stones you'll find with writing on them that will speak of the boars. These are boar spawn stones. Boars will respawn near these stones [once a day, I believe] and then slowly wander out in to the wilderness. [Spoiler] You can eventually tame wolves. Once you do, you may find them chasing off deer into the wilderness and not return. Don't worry if/when this happens. Your own animals never despawn (but can die).
@Gamestar Nation Oh!! I was playing today and one of those runes were near the boars. Awesome!!! Thank you! Right now I'm trying to get deer pelts to upgrade to leather so I can go into the black forest and get pine wood to support my tall house. The roof keeps collapsing. Do deer have similar runes to mark where they spawn?
@@dictatorofthecheese Deer have spawn locations, but they are hidden. I have a deer spawn in the same spot once a day near my current property. As for the corewood (pine) supports, there are even better supports once you get to the next biome (after the black forest). I don’t want to spoil anything though.
@Gamestar Nation All good. Thanks for your help!! I really love valheim. Haven't gotten this absorbed in a survival game since I got 7 days to die on console back in 2017. Valheim is so fun and something about it is so relaxing.
"If you don't know anything about this game and just jump in, you'll have no idea what's going on or what to do." Yes, literally why I'm here, very astute observation lol.
Build multiple cooking stations over a single fire and you won't be able to walk into the fire, while still being able to add wood and cook at any fire.
Great video thank you. I can't even figure out how to select my stone axe on Steam deck. Got to look at my controls I guessed but I didn't see it the first time
Aw dang, I haven’t even had my hands on a Steam Deck yet. I hope that’s not an issue. Thanks for the kind words! (And for commenting) 😉👍 If you find the settings option, feel free to share it here. It could help out a lot of people.
@@gamestar.nation So the absolute best feature of steamdeck is steam input. It is the most robust controller configurator I've ever used. If I wanted to do something crazy like, turn on the gyro when I right click so I could pan around by moving the deck, I can. If I wanted to bind any key to... I don't know, whatever you can think of, I can. It's great. So I'm sure I can set it up. There's a default profile and many community created profiles. So I'll either just set the binding or switch to a better overall profile. I'd say I'd prefer post here about it, but there's great videos for steam input out there. I'm definitely post if I run into an issue. Thank you again. Thanks for the fast reply. Top notch!
Dude when I first started playing this game I didn't know that you needed to craft the hammer to build stuff, I thought the hammer was a weapon lol. So I didn't bother crafting it because I already had the axe, and I played like 11 in game days and even killed the Eikthyr (took me like 15 deaths lol) before I figured out how to build lmao
there are spawn stones for boars. They are the vertical stones strewn about the meadows. The boar stone is the one that talks about boars. This will be the location for boar spawns in that area. Deer spawn throughout the meadows and black forest. Flint will respawn in the same place you find it after some time.
So I haven't played the game yet, but I was wondering about your keybind settings. Are you using a nonstandard keyboard or something? I've heard of alternatives to the now standard WASD setup, but what's going on with your settings?
I use a Razer Tartarus, which is a half-keyboard for your left hand. You can bind any key to any button and I had set my bindings long ago from an unrelated game. My keys are not in the same order as they are in the keyboard. So, I’m hitting button “2” which I had set to ‘D’ (or whatever). I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the respectful approach in asking.
@@gamestar.nationOoh, thanks for responding so quick on an old video. My wife is playing for the first time as I type this and we found your video really helpful. Thanks again!

All good! If you find the altar, It will give you a clue, but not a very good one. You'll need more than one as well. This game is so wild to drop you in literally with little instruction and then bombard you with enemies 🫠🫠🫠🫠 I tried the preview and I want to base build but it seems so hard. Hopefully this video clears it up for me 😅

I bought this game about 3 hours ago and I was still collecting wood and flint by a river found a little shack then started choking on the smoke! From the fire next to me! I'm a complete pro as you can quite clearly read 😂 You are a legend for making this video I'm going to have to watch it more than once 100% Valheim doesn't help even in the slightest this is a life saver literally with this game!
Glad the video is helping! I agree that the game doesn't do a very good job of explaining really anything. I appreciate the kind words. Welcome to Valheim!

Fire, inside, smoke, die...36:37
In real life, perhaps. Each entity of smoke in Valheim only lasts so long before it dissipates. With that high channel in the ceiling, it catches the smoke and holds it until it deletes. Smoke never has a chance to fill up enough to drop down to my level.
Just wanna let you know this helped me tremendously! Very much appreciated, I'm loving the game so far
Awesome! I'm so glad to hear it!!
Can relate 100%!
Just when I think I’ve mastered my domain, -BANG- ☠️
@@gamestar.nation Very, very much my experience, yes. I know have the heavy silver set (Wolf Armor, sick as hell looking) and some awesome weapons but Valheim did not stop with the sucker punches while I was working on that. Getting stuck up on the mountains after nightfall not knowing what you're in for up there...let's just say I screamed 🤣
Note: that giant bird isn't a valkyrie. That's actually Hugin, one of 2 of Odin's main patron Ravens. ( Odin is also known as the Raven God) They can travel freely between realms, and Odin uses them as his eyes in the skies so to speak.
ua-cam.com/users/clipUgkxLTg6r1_ld7-FA37pTD5SUQCE0chyC-zb
They scared me half to death as a kid "Nu skal blodet flyta!"😆
I don't know what Darren and the Proffessor are talking about, but they are just flat-out wrong.

OK, I see where you might be disappointed to see a small glimpse of what lay ahead. Sorry if this video ruined anything for you. I included the things that originally drew me to the game. Any word on what date it’s dropping yet for Xbox?
I'll be honest man, it's been a long time since I've played a game this well designed. It fires on all cylinders, for real! Especially if you're into survival games. But be warned, it might not be as thrilling as DayZ with it lacking real pvp. The multiplayer aspect of Valheim is very much aimed at co-op. PvP is possible but not common.

Thanks for this helpful video dude, I didn't know you can sneak up on animals like that! I spent most of my time throwing my spear at them, running to pick it up & throw it again LOL

It's worth telling new folks that Plains are to be given a wide berth. On Day 5 or so, if you run a little bit into Mountain to collect a deer or whatever, you see the freezing and leave. Welcome to Valheim!! 👍
I was literally chasing the deer and hoping for the best lol. I managed to kill a couple this way but it was rather frustrating, TY for explaining how to get them.
Well chasing them is good for leveling up running, but glad I could help lower the frustration level 👍
So happy for this coming to game pass thanks for the guide 🙏
You're welcome! I'm stoked it released for game pass as well. The more players, the better! Welcome to Valheim!!

Great video thank you. I can't even figure out how to select my stone axe on Steam deck. Got to look at my controls I guessed but I didn't see it the first time

Thanks for the kind words! (And for commenting) 😉👍
If you find the settings option, feel free to share it here.
Question: do things like flint/boars/deer respawn? Or do you have to search new areas every time?
there are spawn stones for boars. They are the vertical stones strewn about the meadows. The boar stone is the one that talks about boars. This will be the location for boar spawns in that area. Deer spawn throughout the meadows and black forest. Flint will respawn in the same place you find it after some time.
ive started making roads house to house to make myself a map of safehouses. its gonna take awhile lol.
Yea, I imagine so, but it’ll be worth the effort in the end
[ I hope ]
