This, in my humble opinion, is the best Rodney on Carson show ever. He was hitting it out of the park on every joke! You know Carson had to know his routine but still was laughing his ass off!
His line, "Suddenly I'm depressed", and keeping a straight face afterward was one of his all-time funniest moments on Johnny Carson. Ed burst out hysterically in the background!
San Diego, Rodney had his own style. His comedy wasn't as intellectual as men like Carlin and say Bill Hicks. Those comedians were heavily sarcastic and made fun of the government and the people for just letting the government push us around. Rodney's whole shtick was 'I Can't Get No Respect' and he was very good at it!
Rodney feels like a magician. His cadence, timing, and tone are all perfect. He knows that the audience knows the joke is coming and his set up to every joke is exactly where it needs to be
Anytime I feel disgusted with the news or how life is treating me I just hit the Rodney Dangerfield videos for a quick laugh. I try to remember a couple of his one liners. They are still funny after all these years, and they get a laugh when you use them at the right time.
No one can tell these jokes like Rodney. The way he sets up the joke, delivers the punchline and his mannerism when he tells the joke is classic Rodney. That's why I can watch him tell these jokes over and over again, whenever he is on a talk show. It never gets old for me.
No one can tell those "jokes" because no one wants to appear as stupid and inbred as he was. Fact. Slept with his own mother to spawn his future "wife." Disgusting really...

Always loved Rodney. He always made me laugh when I was down. He was one of the best comedians. I appreciate his work so very much. He's a rare breed. Love ya Rodney.
I think Rodney loved to take risks. Isn't the rumor that Johnny Carson was a severe alcoholic? I know his real life wasn't nearly as fun and lighthearted as his show. He was a great show host but apparently his person life was a shambles. Divorces, fighting, drama, etc.
PS I Don't think Rodney would have been poking at Johnny, his host. He wouldn't mock him by making fun of alcoholics. Like many who suffer to this day, a lot of alcoholics NEVER show up to work drunk so the coworkers simply do not know that the person is getting drunk every day as soon as they get off work.
Those 2 jokes were hilarious!! The play on words were so subtle and yet ingenious. “.....workaholic, .....mentioned work he’d start drinking#@! Alcoholics Anonymous, drink and use a different name...😂😂😂. And to be able to keep a straight face after telling them, comic legend!
There's another one that I didn't hear in this video. "Last night was the first time I saw my wife in a negligee. Problem is, she was just walking in through the front door."
Something about the way he keeps adjusting his tie is so hilarious to to me. Like he’s pretending to be nervous, or something. It’s a fake nervous tick. And he knows exactly what he’s doing. Just adding artificially to the tension of his ongoing horror stories. It’s absolute genius.
What's really great about Rodney is the fact you can watch a performance, like this one, come back a few years later like I did, and you'll be laughing all over again as if it was new material. I usually don't realize I've heard it before until after he completes the punch line. And while I'm laughing I realize I've heard this zinger before. He was simply great!
