When I was just in High School... My Parents and i saw Rodney at the Wisconsin State Fair. We were like third row on the Isle. We were laughing SO HARD... And I caught Rodney's Eye and he saw how hard I was laugh and he looked down and said "Take it easy Kid! You look like your going to have a Heart Attack!" Then he KNEW he had me. And he walked down and talked to my parents and I and we got Heckled by THE GREAT Rodney Dangerfield! One of the BEST MEMORIES of my Life!
I'm 55 now and I STILL Love his Humor!

The rapid fire absurdity of his jokes are all about himself. He adds his family to set up the framework then dumps on himself; his looks and luck are things we can all relate to. Still my favorite joker.💖

I think we’re all looking to find something to laugh about in 2023. Maybe we should put pressure on the TV stations around the world to bring out the old videos like these, Golden Girls, Carole Burnett, Dave Allen, Shelley Berman, the movie Captain Newman MD. The list goes on. Some smart politician could run on the promise of bringing laughter back into our lives.

It's astounding just how many jokes he had in his head. And to remember them all well enough to not repeat em across numerous performances or appearances like these here on johnny? Pretty incredible.
Most comedians tell stories, often fairly lengthy. They set up a situation and derive humor out of the event(s). Bit different from Dangerfield's style where it is just nonstop endless jokes, bet if you counted em here it's be nearing 50 individual jokes here.
      And his delivery, perfection.

My favorite part of Johnny's repartee with his comedian guests was that he was ALWAYS feeding them banter (many times it was pre-planned) to help them transition from joke to joke. You can see in this video several times where Johnny echoes and adds "flavor" to Rodney's segue, enjoying every second of it because he knows Rodney is just setting up his next bit. And what makes Dom really crack up (when he bangs the ashtray on the table) is an absolutely naked segue, that just comes out of the blue. I love watching comedians crack other comedians up.

The guests were laid back, chill, not full of ego, and it was just like good friends cracking jokes around a campfire, trying to bring light and laughter into people's homes and into each other's lives. Johnny Carson talk show was still the best ever, and Rodney Dangerfield one of the best stand up comics ever. He and Robin Williams stand as the golden gods of stand up comedy. I went to a fancy restaurant last week. Real fancy. It was so fancy that they had a sign in the Mens Room "Employees Must Wash Hands." I waited over 30 minutes. Nobody showed up so I had to wash my own Hands.

Me too. The younger generation that watch Jimmy Fallon have no idea. These late night shows were real with real feelings. Todays late night shows have a large element of faking it as you go along to keep people interested.

I was born in the early 80s and saw some of Johnny, but it wasn't until several years ago I started watching more of him on UA-cam. My favs are of him interviewing Joan Rivers.

He has a flat joke, then makes a funny face and a slight expression acknowledging it stunk but also playing right into his characterization of life is hard. A masterful save. A pro's pro. Not enough video of him. Now if I can only do the Triple Lindy.

They all appreciated each other's talent. DOM Deluise is laughing like he's watching his idol. Theyball had fun. No one ever tried to rob the spotlight. Especially Johnny. He let the guests do their thing and in doing that was the best to ever grace late night

He was the creme de la creme of stand-up. Also, acting gave him another excellent stage from which to perform his hilarious gyrations, which he was not short of during this, his last appearance, on the Tonight Show.

Probably the coolest man I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and enjoying a drink with. He denied it was him and I respected that, we talked about life and sipped our drinks for a couple hours, as I got up to leave I said goodbye n great to meet you buddy. He responded " hey I tell ya sometimes I get a little respect" and smiled. I said "thank you Mr. Dangerfield for all the laughs" and was on my way. One of the highlights of my adult life!
