When you mentioned Baron von Snort, it made sense because the footage showed Diddy riding not a vehicle, but a rhinoceros. It isn’t hard to see that Rambi would be the true hero of DKR Adventure, with Diddy just acting as his rider.
Probably something to mention, when Rare was brought by Microsoft; aside from the Kongs, Nintendo also kept Krunch. He's probably the only one who has a sliver of a chance in making a return appearance in a future DK game
I remember when I was pretty young, I was aware of the fact that Banjo and Conker got their own games, so I suspected that most of the characters in DKR got their own games later on. Then one day, I saw what was probably a Gex game and went "Woah, Crunch got his own game!?" I think it was pretty close to a copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day, so the idea of the cast getting their own games was already fresh in my mind when I saw a green lizard protagonist for N64 and immediately made that connection. I did not end up getting any game that day, but it was definitely a thought that occurred.
when I was a kid I remember thinking each character was going to have their own 3d platforming adventure and that felt magical for some reason. b Banjo and Conker... It would be kinda awesome if all of them did...
Kevin Bayless (IDK how to spell his name) may well have been saying that Tiptup "started in DKR" because his first appearance was in DKR, with Banjo-Kazooie releasing afterward. He just might not be counting a scrapped version of a game that came out later as getting his start.
What an awesome video, well done. I loved Taj as a character, he seemed so welcoming as a guide to the racers. Also I heard about Drumstick being playable as a kid but had no idea how to unlock him, and it was THAT simple? Wtf lmao
Krunch actually did make a second appearance (though renamed simply as "Kritter") in Diddy Kong Pilot, even if that game was also cancelled/redone as Banjo-Pilot. What was slated to be Timber's game, Dinosaur Planet, was shortly after retooled to instead star original characters Krystal and Sabre, before Nintendo stepped in and retooled _that_ game to be about Star Fox, being renamed Star Fox Adventures. As a bit of trivia, the engine for Dinosaur Planet was actually built off DKR's engine, and a couple of leftover models can still be found in the N64 build that surfaced back in 2021.
I wonder if Krunch was meant to be a character in what would soon become Donkey Kong 64, back when it was more of a 2D sidescroller, and he just got cut along the way as they continued developing it.
Diddy kong racing is so iconic, my dad doesnt really like it, but still, to this day, he hums and whistles different tunes from it, the music was top tier, lets hope they put the Whiz pig theme in a future smash game
Wow, how have I never heard about Astro Mouse? Or about how Timber was originally the star of the N64 version of Dinosaur Planet? *10:56* lmao that setup was great. Also I love how Krunch is hands-down the worst racer in the game, as the resident bad guy it always seemed intentional and fitting, but nowadays he strikes me as a cool Hard Mode. Really cool vid, definitely subbing―I'd be surprised to learn _one_ thing from these vids, but here I learned several, and with a few laughs on the way. Cheers
Maybe not all getting their own games, but I would be so down for them to appear in different games. Krunch in DK and Bumper in Conker (due to his felonious past). Timber getting his own game with Drumstick (who was already on the island). That just leaves Pipsy and T.T. I could see Pipsy in Conker due to her innocent design and seemingly polite personality. An innocent mouse in a rude world would fit perfectly. As for T.T., I don't know what he would be in. He would probably just be lost to DKR other than neat easter eggs. I suppose he could accomplish the same role as he does in DKR if Timber's hypothetical game in this scenario turned out to be a racing, like Pro AM 64 was. Other than that though, I'm out of ideas. Unfortunately, this probably will never happen, but I'd pop off to be proven wrong.
6:08 Actually, the story I remember hearing was a little different; presumably, the game was changed after Nintendo saw the protagonist, who was made into a fox (not a tiger), and they thought "Hey, that looks a lot like a fox character we have already created, so, let's just turn it into a new type of Star Fox game!"🤔🐯🦊🦕
imagine an alternative universe where instead Diddy Kong Racing had a different roster that was just dkc characters with a roster of Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, Kiddy Kong, Candy Kong, Cranky Kong, Wrinkly Kong, and King K. Rool with a hidden unlock requirement
Would’ve been cool to have TT in Nuts and Bolts instead. Could’ve had him as old and retired from racing. His first trial being super easy. He decides “I could make it harder”, as you progress in finishing them, you see he starts getting back to his former self, eventually he’s back in peak condition, his last trial being the hardest one and he thanks Banjo for bringing him back to their good ole racing days.
My brother and I grew up playing Diddy Kong Racing -- I even earned T.T., real challenge -- and I always said that this game drove Conker into alcoholism.
It's funny to imagine the things we see in games are only the mundane, reasonable things they can show with games, but somewhere out there mario is fighting god level characters but it's just too fantastic to be put into a game.
This is f-ing crazy. Timber was meant to be the protag of this game then he ended up in Dinosaur Planet of all things?! If you don't know, DP is a Starfox Adventures prototype that had a wildly different plot and no relation to Starfox at first. If I'm correct then Timber became Saber, one of the playable main characters next to Crystal, only for Nintendo to yet again mess with things and made Rare change him into Fox because they think he looked like him. So basically, Timber got cucked twice. :/ Btw, Dinosaur Planet is playable, go look it up.
Tiptup was probably my least played character in "Diddy Kong Racing" due to the fact that he's pretty much a generic-looking turtle that felt more like a knock-off of Koopa Troopa.
I was so happy to see this, I love this kind of video! I wonder if there may be a chance of a DKR spiritual successor by modern Rare, since Fangamer has a pin set called “Rare Racers” featuring Banjo and Timber. It doesn’t seem like there would be an issue with them using the non-Nintendo owned stuff from the game
Simple headcanon: Drumstick *did* beat Wizpig, but being a sore loser,Wizpig turned him into a frog, while he couldn't beat Drumstick in a race,WP bested Drumstick with his magic, getting past Timber's first line of defense.
14:57 Pretty funny how Kazooie asks: "Why can't you just hatch the egg yourself?", to which Tiptup replies: "I'm a reptile, not a bird." Don't reptiles usually hatch their eggs, just like birds?🤨🥚🐢
Instead of Krunch, they could have used Klubba, the big guy who lets you into the Lost World at the cost of bonus coins. He was already a semi-helpful freinemy. Just throw in some lore about how he mistakenly thought there was some prize money involved in all this racing.
We need a bumper the badger game now. A reformed criminal working to repent for his crimes against humanity and make the world a better place. Get on it, guys.
I find it strange how they replaced Banjo and Conker in the DS version because of this whole Microsoft thing but not other characters that were created by Rare. Was there a deal between Rare and Nintendo that states that Nintendo owns all of DKR characters except Banjo and Conker?
I think it's understandable that Conker was replaced not Banjo though (my best guess is that Nintendo didn't want a character explicitly tied to a competitor in a game about Donkey Kong)
The Entire DKR cast, excluding the Kongs, is owned by Rare. When booting up the DS game, the copyright info states, "Certain characters licensed by Rare". Perhaps Microsoft and Nintendo saw the other characters as nothing major, so they allowed it. As for Conker, he's tied to an M-Rated game now, so adding him would be troubling. Banjo had his next game coming to Xbox 360 at the time (Nuts & Bolts), so Nintendo decided to not include him as to not promote a competitor's upcoming game. Remember that at the time, Nintendo and Microsoft were still fierce rivals.
Conker had become too associated with BFD to include, which is understandable, but I think Banjo was removed purely because either Nintendo or Microsoft simply didn’t want to cross-promote or give up a big IP character like that to a competitor. Rare technically made a couple of Banjo games for the GBA without issue, but they couldn’t do Diddy Kong Pilot due to the very same licensing shenanigans. It’s odd, but it just comes down to what Nintendo and Microsoft want at any given moment. Rare owns Conker, though, so his cut was definitely just due to his M-rated image.
The ending made me kind of melancholic. I want my good old nintendo, rare and childhood back. At least in this timeline videos like these show up in my recommendations, which is nice.
I feel you. I'm not a guy who looks back all the time, longing to get back to past days. I'm 35 years old and a family man, happily married to my wife who gave birth to our son more than three years ago. There's nothing in this world that would ever make me give up on this. Yet, a few days ago, just before going to bed, I thought of my childhood days and early youth. The "N64 days". And for some reason I especially thought about playing Diddy Kong Racing with my friends. Friends, of whom I lost most as the years went by, scattering us all over the country and even on a global level. And I dearly wished to be able to go back to these days, playing a round of DKR with them, just once more, one last time. It's not coming back. This is why we must keep these memories alive. And hold them dear to our hearts.
Wow, so I guess there was a reason Bumper's 3D render gave me the slight creeps, then. Looks like he really _was_ hiding something behind those _red, staring eyes._ I feel better having Krunch as my main. It's better to look bad but be good, then it is to look good but be bad.
This was hands down my favorite racing game. I was so stoked when Banjo came out too after having played this so much. Tbh I loved how the characters were unique little weirdos and the story mode really set it apart for me!
Never realized they used Tricky as the name of the triceratops and they used it again in star fox adventures for "prince tricky" the triceratops. Kinda fun knowing that game was intended to be a vehicle for timber at first! great work!
Still don't get why they had to replace Roo, was it that much harder to animate her walking outside her vehicle? Unlike the others she'd probably have to hop around instead of walk/run, what with her being a kangaroo, but that should be easy enough for Rare. And wow, Bumper looks like he's wearing a Zero Suit in his preliminary design, lol.

When you mentioned Baron von Snort, it made sense because the footage showed Diddy riding not a vehicle, but a rhinoceros. It isn’t hard to see that Rambi would be the true hero of DKR Adventure, with Diddy just acting as his rider.
dude went full deliverance on that banjo
Bruh. I was staring at that croc for 20 minutes thinking "is that not vector?"
😗🤌MWAH! Such a beautiful in depth detail of DKR. I always wondered who the characters were. This is a masterpiece
I loved racing as Timber as a kid. Had absolutely no idea all of this about him. Thanks for the vid.
As a kid, this was my jam. I literally grew up on this game and still never beat it! I wish it was on the switch!! So badly!!!!
I'll never ever forget these words:
"AYM BANJO!! ... oo-WOAAAAAAAAA~"
19:14 wait does that mean T.T. is swiss?! lol that is very funny, is it because we’re known for always being on time?
Bumper the badger just became my favorite video game character of all time
Diddy used to have a Rareware hat. When Rare got bought, it was changed to a Nintendo hat
Krunch is sort of in other games since he's a stand-in for any one of K. Rools Kremlings.
What an awesome video, well done. I loved Taj as a character, he seemed so welcoming as a guide to the racers. Also I heard about Drumstick being playable as a kid but had no idea how to unlock him, and it was THAT simple? Wtf lmao
You also need to get the first 4 gold trophies.
Awesome video man!! Really informative. I had no idea Tiptup was the same turtle in Kazooie and Tooie lmao. And how Bumper is a freaking felon
"these weird fucks are something" so true king so true
Technically Sabre is an evolved version of Timber, so he was never completely scrapped from the transition to Dinosaur Planet.
I love how we can all agree, Banjo's version of the character screen GOES HARD!!!!
Cheers
The DS cast is slightly different: Banjo and Conker are replaced by Dixie and Tiny and Taj was also made playable.
i hope every dkr character has their own game
Same, I wanna see Drumstick and T.T getting their own adventures.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BADGER WENT TO JAIL LMAO
That’s the funniest shit ever omg
The theme song changing according to the character was something amazing, I wish more games did that
7:25 I remember back in the day when I read the bio of Banjo and was wondering who the the hell was Kazooie!
Rare the only devs that never really lost their charm
Would’ve been cool to have TT in Nuts and Bolts instead. Could’ve had him as old and retired from racing. His first trial being super easy. He decides “I could make it harder”, as you progress in finishing them, you see he starts getting back to his former self, eventually he’s back in peak condition, his last trial being the hardest one and he thanks Banjo for bringing him back to their good ole racing days.
My brother and I grew up playing Diddy Kong Racing -- I even earned T.T., real challenge -- and I always said that this game drove Conker into alcoholism.
i think conker just takes not drinking and driving VERY seriously
My Imp from World of Warcraft's name is randomized to Pipsy. I always enjoyed that. It made me stick with my Warlock.
Btw, Dinosaur Planet is playable, go look it up.
I had no idea so many of these weirdoes had such interesting histories. Kudos!
Dude you are good. I hope the channel blows up. This video has like no filler. Just a good time and informative.
My siblings and my Dad would play this a lot. My dad's favorite character was Pipsy the Mouse. One of our favorite N64 games 🎮
Tiptup was probably my least played character in "Diddy Kong Racing" due to the fact that he's pretty much a generic-looking turtle that felt more like a knock-off of Koopa Troopa.
bumper is a hardened criminal
Lmao "But Timber FUUCKSS UP!" 😂😂
I was so happy to see this, I love this kind of video! I wonder if there may be a chance of a DKR spiritual successor by modern Rare, since Fangamer has a pin set called “Rare Racers” featuring Banjo and Timber. It doesn’t seem like there would be an issue with them using the non-Nintendo owned stuff from the game
Hilarious video, good info. Well done!
This was hilarious and I loved the in depth content, Keep up the great work!!
Turtles normally bury them in the sand and leave them behind, so they don't lay on the eggs.
TT is a time lord who goes fast by manipulating time. His car has a governor so he can only win by a small amount. He can shapeshift into a cat.
So that explains Trophy Thomas...
@@Quartzer. But both Banjo and Conker were replaced in the DS version with Dixie Kong and Tiny Kong
The story of Timber is one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard
Please do more rare vids like this.
I'm tired of the same ol banjo three/banjo x trivia vids. This was pretty fresh, lotta details I didn't know
I remember i used to call Wizpig 'chanchoman' because he looked like a character from a kids show in my country
Man,the lore is crazy in this game!
Tricky also inspired Tricky in the Star Fox Adventure. Both are triceratops and the games are made by Rare.
The ending made me kind of melancholic. I want my good old nintendo, rare and childhood back.
At least in this timeline videos like these show up in my recommendations, which is nice.
Get rumpled down!!
Concors bad fur Day was an awesome game. The teddy vs squirrel death match. Amazing
I had way more fun with this game than Mario Kart on the N64 when I was kid lol
You really over estimate my mum's understanding of games
