Sea Fishing For Cod From The Beach - Winter Cod Quest Part Three
For this latest latest episode and for part three of our Cod quest we once again took the cameras down to Aldeburgh Town Beach in Suffolk with the hope of catching a few Cod/Codling from the shore. With good conditions, a big tide and some nice bait we were hopefully of a Codling or two, but did we catch one... watch the video to find out! - Спорт
Great videos , they really emphasize having good bait , presenting it well and sticking at it through rough and smooth to get the rewards that perseverance brings. Great presentation and editing too Chris.
Thanks for the kind comments Gary, glad you're enjoying the video's! 😊 Cheers Chris
Excellent video series thanks for all the hints and tips beach fishing is very hard work in harsh conditions and catching anything is a bonus ,good luck mate hope you catch a double figure cod YOU DESERVE IT !
Hi Neil Haynes thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :-) Fingers crossed this year will be a good one!!! Already hearing a few reports about a few Codling around, so probably won't be far off the first trip now! :-) Good luck with your fishing and of course, tight lines!
Really good honest fishing I've seen. Nice to see some failure videos as we all know even the best fishermen out there don't catch what they want in terms of species or size. Unlike some other well known fishing channels. Thankyou for your videos.
Thanks for the kind comments Jenfen and for taking the time to post them, glad you're enjoying the video's! Haha... things definitely don't always go to plan! :-D Cheers Chris.
Again another great video, lots of good tips...Spent most of my working life as a fishing guide so out in all weathers too .. I do like the approach-small fish maybe but an honest day's days catch...Refreshing to watch rather than heavily edited catches of specimens..Got me stirred up enough to want to get out there and have another go too ! .... Tight lines and keep 'em coming !
Thanks for the kind comments John, thanks for taking a few minutes to leave us some feedback :-) Glad you enjoyed the video! It was pretty grim! I've bet you've been out in some conditions too then!!! Yeah it's tough round are way at the moment, seems to be lots of small fish and not much else to be honest. Nice to see those little fish though, I just hope they survive and come back next year. Hope you get out and manage something a little larger! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Once again enjoyable,thanks.
Thanks for these videos. Great quality. Informative and entertaining. Really enjoying this series.
HI Jonny, thank you for the kind comments, glad you are enjoying the video's in this little challenge series, there should be lot's more to come this winter too and fingers crossed... hopefully we'll achieve our goal!!! :-)
great video..have watched all 3 now and it was good see you toughing it out and catching pin whiting and some codling.great presentation and informative for someone like me who has just started beach fishing..keep up the good work guys
Thanks very much Paul, so glad you enjoyed the videos and that you found them useful! Also thanks for taking the time to comment, its always nice to hear feedback from people, especially positive stuff, it makes it all worth while! :-) Good luck with your fishing!
Thx for making such great videos I've watched them since I started fishing
Thanks for the kind comments, glad you're enjoying the video's and find them useful! :-)
Hi Chris! I enjoyed this video too. At least you caught a few, even though they were small. Keep trying and keep up the good work.
Great presenting again and toughing it out like that is the reality of English shore fishing. The Ozzies and other people round the world must look at us and laugh but we can only catch what's there. Very enjoyable series thanks,.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah I know what you mean!!! Our beach fishing video's will look a lot different from theres! And there's would probably contain more/bigger fish! Haha! We'll keep trying though, roll on the spring and those Bass and Hounds! :-)
Great vids Chris. You and Steve are setting the standard. Well done.
Thank you for the kind comments, and for taking the time to post :-) glad you enjoy them!
Never sea fished with a name like ABU? Find that hard to believe...Lol. Great video, iam addicted. Thank you very much!
Johnny
Oxfordshire
Another fantastic video, you really should be on the telly!
The Cod just haven't really shown up this Year, but it's looking promising for next season.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll get that elusive biggie sooner rather than later, looking forward to the next installment.
As always, your videos are well presented and a pleasure to watch, have seen this video a few times same as all your postings and enjoy every time. good luck bro because i think someone one day may take note and ask you to do a TV series. lets hope :)
Hi Beowulf 59 thank you for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, glad you enjoyed the video :-) Haha… now that would be nice!!! ;-)
Nice video. Well done on your perseverance! Glad you got into some of the blighters in the end :P
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! It's just case of getting a bigger one now, a proper one!!! :-D
great vids keep them coming! :)
great vid again mucker, really enjoyed ur cod series and although not the biggest cod I was made up to see u get some out
Thanks Jason! Thanks for taking the time to comment! Yeah that's it mate, it's just nice to catch them whatever the size! Sure beats catching 'pin' Whiting. I've had them off that stretch of beach to nearly 8lb, but that was a few years back now! Hopefully the little chaps we were catching will grow on and visit us in winters to come! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
great videos, picked up loads of tips thankyou. great presenter by the way :) please post more :)
Thanks John West glad you enjoyed the videos and thanks for taking the time to comment! Glad you liked my presenting too! :-) Hopefully we should be back on the quest next week on the set of big tides! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
really enjoying your videos lads well done.
Cheers +Kevin Pearce glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to comment! :-)
Looking good for the future, I fish off Clacton beach & I've had a few coding, tight lines 😀
Nice one mate!
Nice one for the vids mate. Off to Aldeburgh on Sunday, not a very experienced sea fisherman, so thanks for the tips!
No worries Will Draper glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Good luck with session on Sunday, fingers crossed you manage to get amongst a few!!! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
ok I hope this one you catch a cod, glad you shared these no catch experience with us, I have the same trouble here in texas, I catch catfish instead of redfish...
Haha thanks John Green I guess these videos are more of a blog/diary style piece, documenting our latest experiences, hopefully soon we'll catch something a lot more worthwhile though! :-) Good luck with your fishing and tight lines, cheers Chris.
Great vids, keep them coming! I'd also like to see some perch/roach/rudd fishing vids too.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Am sure we can cover some of them species, we have tried Perch recently, but unfortunately we failed miserably! We'll try again though! :-)
I have just subscribed, thanks for posting great videos.
Thanks Ritchie! :-) No worries, we enjoy doing it and have lots more to come! Am actually editing a new sea fishing video as we speak!
Do you still make these great videos? I am coming back to shore fishing after few years away, and I am really enjoying your work and picking up some really good tips. So thank you, it's much appreciated.
Hi mate, yeah we are still making video's, just been very busy recently - there'll be lots more to come throughout this year though. Glad you enjoy what we have online so far and that you have found them useful and thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. Hope you've been catching a few fish! :-)
great vid as always
Thanks declan gray glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Not long till the new Cod fishing season now!!! :-)
Another good video. Good to see that you caught some cod, even better to hear that you would put any just on size back. There have been lots of small cod caught this year which is a good sign for future seasons. You mentioned the charter boats, well I was out on one from G. Yarmouth yesterday. We pretty much saw cod of the size that you were catching. The biggest of the day was about 2Ib, so it's not just small ones from the beach. They are pretty much everywhere. Well done again lads.
Hi Jez, thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video. Shame about your fishing yesterday, like you say perhaps there is just small fish around everywhere... it maybe that when the crabs come into moult, a few bigger fish follow, but I'm not banking on it! Haha. Might have another trip or two, then focus my attentions on the Smoothound and Bass! The last few years I've had more success targeting them. :-) Thanks again, be lucky and tight lines!
This would make a good fish show 4 tvvlove it keep up the good work
Thanks michael wright glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! :-)
I like your presentation excellent mate
Thanks mate!
Looks like great fun, except for the cold windy weather
Hi Ritchie, glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for taking the time to comment! :-) Haha... the cold windy weather is the norm here in the East, when Cod fishing through the winter months! :-))
I live in Watford Uk so we get mild weather compared to coastal weather.
Ah I didn't realise Ritchie! I thought you might have been in sunnier climates, because of your profile pic! You probably get your fair share of 'grim' weather too then! Haha!
nice video....z weather was extreme but u manage to get some really nice fish
Thanks arvind seesanaye glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. It was pretty rough!!! Tight lines, cheers.
Beautiful.
Thanks mate!
Never sea fished but still enjoyed the vid!
Thanks Abu, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to comment. :-)
nice video guys!!!!
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it! :-)
good video chris and steve
Thanks Henri! Much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the video. :-)
like this presenter, he;s is a proper trooper, i watched 1, 2, and the conditions getting worse and still no decent size cod, last time this happened to me i went to the local fishmonger;s and took one of them home, thanks for the tip last time, margate..ha ha .......
Hi Wayne, Haha... glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Am pleased you enjoyed my presenting skills too, we do try! I think I might have to try that next time, fish mongers sounds like a good shout, however I'm hopefull (after all the small fish this year) that next year will be a different story! :-)
Great videos fellas, shame that fish stocks around the UK coast are so shite now that landing a nice sized fish is rare.
Thanks jon hayward glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! I know what you mean about the fishing!! I have my fingers crossed that the little chaps in this video will be back this year tho, slightly bigger and better than before… Thats the plan anyway! Tight lines and be lucky, cheers Chris.
Very well presented videos , it would be good to see you host your own tv show , any way do you think you could do a close up of how you construct the rig you use , it looks like its some thing I would use over here in Australia as its always windy where I am , I do have some of the sinkers you use just cant quite tell how you rig up the rest of it .
Thanks Beetlesgonefishin glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. Am sure I can sort something out regarding the rig! It's called a pulley pennel rig, if that helps! :-) Nice to hear from you all the way over in Australia too!!! Thanks again and hope your fishing is going well! :-)
+From The Waters Edge TV love your vids!!!
Geez, tough fishing.
Unfortunately here in East Anglia we aren't blessed with the best winter beach fishing Gary. Haha.
Boom! Cod first chuck. Yeah Boi
Haha! Thanks mate, I think it was more of a Codling than a Cod though! Haha! Whatever the size, it beats catching Whiting! :-)
Beowulf 59 is right plus my son has caught one big codling at Dover admiralty pier he brought it home to us it was 76inches long and 5.8pounds and he says please Mr Collins do a televised show on your cod quest !!!!!
Haha! :-) Big well done to your son too, thats a cracking fish.
hi thanks for vids very well put over ... as to cod season its cracking so far fish regular from 2 to 8 pound most north east marks and not long casting most 60 meters out in kelp when calm alover when sea running ... ignor the critics mate on you go keep them coming haway up here to do one i will put you on marks then hopefully fish will come along who knows ....
Hi rokerlad49 thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video's! :-) I haven't been out much yet, but I have heard on the grapevine that the beaches are fishing well!! Unfortunately in Norfolk we haven't really got any rocky area's or kelp beds, so the bigger fish are sometimes harder to come by, but I'd love to fish a mark like that one day, so who knows! Perhaps we'll bring the camera's up North! :-) Keep us updated with your fishing, be lucky and of course, tight lines!!! Cheers Chris P.S I'm hoping to get out tomorrow and get some new footage, so fingers crossed a new 'Cod Filled' ;-) episode will be online soon!
nee botha lad just i fish alover in comps ect and i run my own salmon fishing on tyne been in my family near 120 years ... have come across alsorts big heads who no everything ect you put it over like a canny person should do ...not an attention seeker whos up himself good on you keep them coming as to cod its going mad up here ....cheers again
Another fantastic video what rods are you using they look nice
I am using the old Greys Grx-S beach rods, they are nice rods, they have enough poke to cast well, but aren't like broom handles, they are a nice all round fishing tool. There's a link in the video description for all the tackle in the video.
Good show mate, may i ask, why dont you use mussel or maybe half a whiting ? maybe use a single branch ledger rig with a 40 to 50cm branch with 2 hooks like your pulley rig and hanging 10 to 15cm above the sinker ? maybe the length of your pulley rig is too long? just putting it out there bro. Look forward to your next show, cheers
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the feedback! I've never really used mussels, we don't tend to get them around our way! As for Whiting, I've fished them as live baits, but never as a 'flapper', could be interesting! ;-) Once again thanks for the feedback. Tight lines, cheers Chris
What rod and reel is that? Nice video
Goes to show you can have nice quality gear but it dont mean you will catch anything decent. I caught a 3 1/2 pound codling of littlehampton beach with a 25 quid rod n reel combo great fun it was felt like i was reeling in an anvil lol but my point is mother nature decides if u will catch or not if the fish are about then u will catch. Fish the same beach a few times at different times and tides and u will eventually build up enough local knowledge to give yourself the best chance
You are right there richard best weather conditions, tides, venue and bait are all far more important than the tackle you are using!
this really makes me happy that i live in nothern Norway..
Haha! I've been over to Norway fishing many times, it's a wonderful country and the fishing is something else! :-)
How boring ...caching 40 to 60 lb cod lol
Nice vídeos, but you throw all of them back to the sea, i tell you what, next time you catch another one, give it to me, they are just the size of my fry pan...hheheh
Haha, +index23432 they were below our legal size here in the UK! :-) Glad you are enjoying the video's though and thanks for taking the time to comment. Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Colin, it might be worth you investing in a better windproof mike... How far are you, on average, from the water when you cast? Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Envy you going off for fish and chips!! I know they are particularly good in Aldeburgh.
Nigel Horsley Thanks Nigel, glad you enjoyed the video! You are right about the fish and chips in Aldeburgh, they are some of the best!!! :-)
Love it, what Rods and Reels are You using? Just like to know :) Thanks for Posting again,
The reels are penn 525 mag 2's by the looks of it, rods greys grxs i think
Thanks, yes when I had asked this Q. i was after a good feed of ale :) saw the makes the next day, but Thanks again
you are correct about the reels mate but I have no idea what Chris's rods are!
try to do some fishing and cooking episode mate!
Haha, now there's a thought! :-) +R Dragon
What is type of rig is that? Looks good for the bait
Hi Morgan, it's a Pulley Pennel Rig. If you have a look in the video description there is a link to a Tackle list, which shows all the items we are using. Hope that helps :-)
Oh, going to buy some now as you used good techniques for keeping the bait on. Thanks a lot!
good show
Thanks again Thomas Harrell
From The Waters Edge TV I am new to fishing any tips ?
+Armoured Tiger it's a good start to catch a fish
I tried that it didn't work lol
What’s the make of your beach shelter please
Hi Michael, it's an old John Holden Beach Buddy. :-)
I found it funny how he threw the first fish back :) I am just starting fishing any tips From The Waters Edge TV
Hi Armoured Tiger to be fair most of the tips I know are featured in our videos :-)
ah ok :) I will have a look at them now :)
What size rod are you using 12 or 14
Hi Danny Thompson it's a 13ft rod. There's a tackle list in the video description too. Hope thats helps :-)
👍👍
Hi Chris why do you fishing in bad weather??
Haha, sometimes I ask myself that James Guile :-)
Perhaps you should try a fishing for shark quest. Then you could use all those small whiting and baby cod for bait. LOL Or perhaps you could call it Quest for whiting? No but really man, I would try a new bait. Why don't you chunk a bit of that whiting out there and see what happens. Seriously, isn't there an old saying about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, oh yeah its called insanity. lol
0:43 Yeah, the first cod. We all waited for that moment so long. In Germany, we say "Petri Heil". What do You say?
Haha, they were only small +popogast but a nice reward! :-)
I like your videos a lot but I think that you should use squid more often.
Thanks Ted jobe we do use Squid fairly regularly, however Worm normally seems to be the best bait.
Hey I love your videos and I would really like to start a channel and could do with some advice I go fishing every weekend on my kayak and from the shore I would like to know to start
Thanks Dylan Cockram glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Ummmm to be honest, I don't really know! We just set up a UA-cam channel and started uploading a few videos etc and it just went from there! If you are fishing on your own from a Kayak then a GoPro camera might be a nice place to start? If thats sorta what you meant? Cheers Chris
Cheers mate yeah thats perfect glad to here from you too keep doing what your doing
How do you make the rig your using
Hi +Toby Sivyer if you google Pulley Pennell there should be lots of info on how to make it. Hope that helps.
+From The Waters Edge TV thank you very much, I'll look on there and hopefully catch a lot with this :) !!
wat beach were u on ??
Aldeburgh, Suffolk.
nice vid. little tip, the small cods are not called codling, codling is a type of cod what has no dangly bits. (if you want to catch one go to the river thames, I recommend grays at a high tide as grays tides are big and bring a lot of fish in)
Hi Christopher Lemonides thanks for the kind comments and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Small Cod are just called Codling, well they are around our coastline. There's no different in the sex of the fish, Codling aren't a type of Cod, they are just a name given to one's below 6-10lb in weight. Hope that helps! Tight lines and good luck with your fishing, cheers Chris.
no honestly codlings are in the cod family alongside with pouting and whiting and they can all be caught on the river Thames as my video coming out soon might see me catch a codling ( that is going to be my prove, remember proper codling is without a dangly thing and the baby cod one is just a name, also correct) thx for your reply ( im only getting your fish knowledge better) and hopefully I will watch more vids.
Hi Christopher Lemonides I honestly don't want to argue :-) haha, but I can assure you a Codling isn't a species of fish, it's just a 'nick name' given to small Cod. If you google it you will find out... the result is Codling = a name given to a young Cod. I also found this on google... 'theres no such fish as Codling or School bass, it's just a name given to the immature fish of each respective species.' Anyway, it doesn't matter I just thought I'd mention it! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
ok I get your idea + I don't wont to argue but I was only telling you my river Thames fishing knowledge. I recommend you if you are going to a holiday in the capital (London) then you have to fish on the mouth of the river thames, lots of rockling, whititng, pouting and flounder
and my next vid on fishing at grays might show the species if im right ( or if not, a cod without a dangly bit in the wrong season)
Good luck for your next fish trip
ps the tides are coming (yay)
are your water edge jumpers for sale? :)
Hi Blake, no not at the moment mate, it's something we might look at getting done in the future though! :-)
thanks love your videos and hope you jumpers come out soon :) cant wait till it gets a bit warmer and ill be straight back fishing :D
try going in a boat and hand line them
We'll hopefully be getting out in a boat, although Steve gets seasick, so I might need to find another cameraman! Haha! :-))
its cold ee
Haha, just a little bit it was!
😃😎
damaged ring on right hand rod lol
Haha, I know Ryan! Years of abuse on the shingle that is! I need to get a new pair really.
I mean fishing show lol
Haha, thanks michael wright :-)
hahahahaahahah
Cheers Marek Botos
its about time to stop the fishing industry to kill your seas, even here in the Baltic there is more fish to catch. It s really bad to watch how empty that water is.
Yeah we do suffer a little bit with a lack of fish. There always seems to be small fish, but a real lack of bigger specimens, certainly here in our area anyway. There was huge amounts of small Codling this year and I think I speak for many when I say I hope they grow on and visit us next year!
just came home after an evening of fishing. Caught about 15 cods, two of them about 7-8 pounds, the rest were about a pound or so .It took less then 2 hours. Released the smaller ones as gently as I could. Would you guys be interested is doing some fishing here I Sweden? Right now is the herring spawning , massive schools are hitting the beaches and the cods are right on the shores. Here in Blekinge there is a world class pike fishing, salmon and the sea fishing is decent two. Contact me if you are interested.
What? Nothing but baiting for beginners.
What do you mean David? It's a video of our fishing session with some tips in there for beginners.
