Sea Fishing For Cod From The Beach - Cod Quest Part Five
The start of November means it's that time again, time to head back out on the beach in pursuit of Codling and what better place to start than where we finished up last year, Aldeburgh town beach in Suffolk.
Keen to get out and blow away the cobwebs we ventured south to the shingle and re-started our quest, armed with some top quality bait and faced with some reasonable conditions, did we succeed?
You can find out all the information in the latest episode from the waters edge.
As usual we hope you enjoy it and if you find any of the information helpful then even better.

Loving the beach fishing vids, I've now watched them all and they're great. I used to go beach fishing years ago when I lived on the north Norfolk coast but gave up when I moved away. However watching your beach films have rekindled my enthusiasm to such an extent that I've bought some new gear and been night fishing down Aldeburgh a couple of times in the last month and had loads of whiting and a few dabs. I'm now hooked again! Keep up the excellent work with your films they're really informative and entertaining. Hopefully I'll see you down the beach sometime :)
Thanks for the kind comments Darren, glad you're enjoying the videos! Hope you've been catching a few fish. :-)
Love your videos mate,great work

Hi Chris! First video I've seen of yours - first class, even though you missed the cod. No matter, you had a day out and the quality, tips and down-to-earth approach were very much appreciated. You have a fan in the NW, so I shall watch out for more. .
Hi Jacques Clouseau thank you very much for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them! Glad you enjoyed the video too! :-) Fingers crossed we should be back out on the quest this weekend, however I think by the looks of the forecast it may not be the case! Thank you once again, hope your fishing is going well? Be lucky and tight lines, cheers Chris.

Great to see you back!..I've tried a few times using frozen blacks and tipped with mackerel, I mostly got small turbot. There's not much CID about here in northwest Ireland but I'm determined this year to see at least one!..
Great vid as always and looking forward to the next one..

Chris
As always very informative and educational, never been sea fishing.. and if I am brutally honest I real did feel for you on that bloody damp cool beach, a lot of prep gone into that trip and personally I was praying you would land a huge cod.
Obviously you will continue these trips to your local beach and something tells me because of your patience and persistence you will beach a big un
Great stuff guys keep up the good work Cheers and Beers IAN
Hi alycidon12 nice to hear from you Ian! Glad your fishing is going well and that you are enjoying the video's! :-) Thanks for the kind comments, we'll try to keep producing the goods and hopefully, like you say, there'll be some nice fish round the corner!!! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.

Thanks Paddy, glad you enjoyed it, thanks for taking the time to comment. Fingers crossed this year is a good year for the Codling!
From The Waters Edge TV What lb line do u use on your reel and what lb line is your rig made from and gr8 vid thanks for sharing
Chris uses 15Ib mainline with a 60Ib shockleader and I think he uses 80Ib rig body line and maybe a 40Ib hooklength?
Cracking video as always lads. Are you planning on continuing the series? For beginners like me the tips and tricks are always appreciated.. regardless of whether you catch or not the whole series has been entertaining and educational from day one!
Hi Wizz Hill glad you enjoyed the video and found bits of it useful, thanks for positive feedback and for taking the time to post it! Fingers crossed we should have lots more coming soon! :-)
Another great video mate i look forward to seeing more over the coming months . I use frozen blacks myself have caught my first ever cod on them and some average size bass . never had much luck with squid tho . I think il try your raps out tho when i go in search for cod again they look a great bait and as you said keep the crabs at bay .
Tight lines
Hi adam craig thanks for the kind comments and glad you enjoyed the video! :-) Good luck having a go and using the wraps too, hope you fare better than I did in this session! Am looking forward to getting out again soon though! :-)
Chris, many thanks for the informative and entertaining video. Aldeburgh ought to enlist you as tourist attraction for sea fishing fans wanting a guided tour. I am sure though visitors want to hit the best chippy after a session though followed by the best pub if it was still open.....
Hi Nigel Horsley thankyou for the kind comments, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was a little unsure whether to add it, as it's not the most fish filled, but the response has been very positive, so thank you. Haha... I know what you mean about Aldeburgh, however I don't think it's half the beach it was (literally!!! haha) so might be trying somewhere else next time. Your are 100% right about the fish and chips though!!! Some of the best I've ever eaten! Tight lines, Cheers Chris.
From The Waters Edge TV Your videos totally reflect the reality of that particular session. I'd like to hear about the edible crabs you catch during them and whether you are tempted to retain them for eating. Remember you have viewers from overseas and comments like that are interesting. I live in Vancouver, Canada, but have, as you may have guessed visited Aldeburgh and enjoyed the fish and chips.
Great video by the way
Thanks mate. :-)
Another great video from the waters edge, shame about the Doggie well done mate keep up the good work. Better luck with the cod next time, tight lines!
Thanks Michael Kibbin glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Fingers crossed we should be out filming the next instalment on Saturday!!! Tight lines and good luck with your fishing, cheers Chris.
Great show chris, love the crab tips. I will give it a go. You may want to try thorpeness, it's fishing very well at the moment 2hours up and 2 hours down. Another place is shingle street as well. ( but remember don't tell anybody oops) keep up the hard work mate
Hi TheFossil999 thanks for the kind comments and glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, those type of baits just keep those crabs at bay a bit longer, you probably know yourself that the crabs round this way have been ravenous on some tides! Thanks for the information, its much appreciated, I've never fished either of those, but have heard good things, will have to investigate! Was tempted by Dunwich next weekend on the big tides! Good luck with your fishing and tight lines. :-)
New subscriber mate, good vid enjoyed it, well done and good effort 🖒🖒🖒
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the sub! :-)
Great video.
Thanks Tracie Smith glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment! :-)

Hi +Leon Bloor first of all thank you for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, it means a lot! Secondly glad you enjoyed the video :-) Hope your fishing is going well and that you've been catching a few! Definetely time to get out there and give it a go, there's been some nice fish caught around the country so far this Cod season! I had a few last week, pictures on our Facebook page and a new video to follow shortly! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Really pretty little sharks!
I appreciate those videos though i'm fishing in the baltic sea.
Thanks Mark, glad you enjoyed it. :-)
You ROCK. lol Did you like the very bad pun Chris? Glad you are back on. Very funny ending.
Haha, very good Sie menotsyaing :-) Thanks for the kind comments and glad you enjoyed the video! Look out for lots more in the coming months, I'm all geared up and ready to go now. Good luck with your fishing too and of course... tight lines! :-)
Great vids, could watch them all day.Im a newbie to beach casting so any chance of a casting vid or two ... cheers dude
Thanks summermarkms glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the kind comments. Ummmm being completely honest I'm not a great caster, so probably wouldn't be the best person to give you advice, however I'll have a word with some of my friends, who are good at casting, and perhaps they maybe able to appear in a video! :-) Good luck with your fishing and of course, tight lines! Cheers Chris
Good honest session. Loved it all the way from Oz - haven't been doing so great myself of late (I fish the rocks here for black drummer - a powerful fish which are loads of fun to catch) which is surprising as I'm doing everything right and was smashing it a few months ago. I think sometimes the poorer trips and blanks help teach you perseverance and make you a better overall angler. Keep up the good vids and honest accounts!
Thanks for the kind comments Frank and for taking the time to post them! It's mega hearing from you all the way over in Oz too... I imagine your sea fishing is a little bit more special than ours! Haha. Glad you're enjoying the video's tho. :-) When I used to watch Rex Hunt as a kid, I'm sure I saw him catch Black Drummer? Fingers crossed your fishing picks up again soon too. :-)
Yeah, our fishing is still good even in Sydney where I reside. Had a cracking morning yesterday fishing a small hole in rough country, caught a nice mulloway (jewfish), a nice drummer and a thumping big tarwhine (42 cm and 1.36 kg or 3lb). This is a relative of our bream (different to your bream) and is the biggest specimen of this species I have ever seen. Conditions were wet, overcast with an incoming tide and the hole filling up with white water by the minute - perfect! Makes up for the blanks. If you ever come to Oz, you would love surf casting for mulloway - in my neck of the woods we get them in winter at night up to 30 kg + and your squid sausage bait would be just the trick! Tight lines!
Very good video mate. Want me to fix the first eye on your rod ;-) keep up the good work
Thanks wrightyc glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Haha... I need some new rods really, using and abusing them on the shingle for 5+ years has really taken it's toll!!! Hopefully father xmas might bring me some new ones! ;-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Good vid again lads even though mr cod did not show you gave us some usefull tips again..keep the quest going please
Thanks for the kind comments Paul and glad you enjoyed it, was a little worried as it's not the most fish filled, but it's still nice to document another session I guess and to blow away the cobwebs! Fingers crossed we should be back out again next weekend on the big tides! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
that's 1 fish I have not has the pleasure off meeting is the doggie
I watch your videos for a few little tips and not being funny you catch less then I do
Keep up the hard work champ
Thanks John Turner glad you enjoy them! :-) Fingers crossed there'll become more fish filled in the coming weeks! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Thanks for the tips
No worries at all Pawel, glad you found the video useful.
nice guy... great vid
Thanks for the kind comments Kieron and for taking the time to post them. Glad you enjoyed the video :-)
great vid.better get back out there
Thanks john wrasse glad you enjoyed it, was a little worried as it's not the most fish filled, but thought it was worth documenting! Feel less rusty now and more 'geared' up for the next session! Haha! :-)
Hi Chris another enjoyable video as usual .. so much so got the inspiration to hit the beach tomorrow.Learned a lot from from you over the past months thankyou...I'm mainly a game angler but live by the sea nothing huge to be had but a pleasure to be out none the less .. I haven't fished much in the winter months other than for pike so this year into next armed with my new found knowledge going to explore some likely looking spots see what turns up...Tight Lines.
Hi John Lindsay nice to hear from you! Glad you enjoyed the latest episode and found it useful! :-) I was a little worried about uploading it, as it's not the most fish filled, but in the end decided it was still nice to document the session. Hope you fishing is going well and that you're getting amongst a few big Trout and Salmon! Thanks once again and of course all the best and tight lines, cheers Chris.
Great man :D
Thanks SurfCastingGalicia cartrò glad you enjoyed and thanks for the comment. :-)
Your baits look so much better than mine do, definately gonna use that in my own fishing. I live in Cromer so fishing is on my doorstep!
Nice one Harry, hope your fishing is going well!
Mostly catching small bass, but had a sole and a nice corkwing wrasse too. I dig all my own lug, I love living by the sea, and i make the most of it. Smooth hound is the next target! Cheers mate, keep on fishin
I wish I could live somewhere where the sea was right outside my frontdoor!
I'll give it to you , you must really love fishing.
Being from the west coast and seeing what you go through I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I'm surprised you don't try cod fishing from the cliffs. They seem to catch a few.
Keep trying brother.
Thanks muddnyreye Haha... I do love it and sometimes wish I fished more, but I don't seem to get out as much as I'd like too! Thanks for the kind comments and good luck with your fishing. Cheers Chris.
good video
Really nice to see someone who doesn't just talk for the sake of it
And no dreaded explanation of the frigging bait elastic ! Why oh why do people consistently show that
Oh no you did
I'm going to make a video of bait elastic and wrap it round my head
Nice one dude
Nice one David, I look forward to your bait elastic video! ;-) Cheers Chris
+fromthewatersedgetv this year next Month you should come down south east England Kent (sandwich bay dover deal) there fishing incredibly lately from bass thornbacks to nice cod
Nice one +Damion Squirrell 1 I've always wanted to fish Dungeness down your way, it seems like a Cod mecca! The fishing round our way has been pretty good so far this autumn though, some nice Codling about!
I used to fish with a guy called 'Muppet' down in Cornwall. He would spend ages preparing worm baits and then, with his hands covered in worm guts and juice he would pick up and eat his sandwiches. I would say, "Ugh! You dirty bugger." He would just shrug and say, "I like a little bit of Lug sauce on my sandwich."
Haha! Nice story InTheNameOfJustice :-)) I'm not quite that bad, normally I just stick to soup/coffee though!! :-)
From The Waters Edge TV
Me too bro. There are some places I just will not go. Thanks for this video. Love your beach fishing stuff. As you say, it's about fishing, not catching. The fish are a bonus. I fished for the peace and almost always caught some.
I love his accent
Its satisfying
Hi Chris, loving the videos. They're a great source of info. Most of my sea fishing has been off the Dorset coast and I now live in Great Yarmouth, can you give me any advice for fishing the beach there? Keep up the good work mate.
Hi Adam Murphy thank you for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them! :-) I used to fish the South Beach at Yarmouth a lot with my Dad, but I haven't been down there for ages now. I'm not sure what the access is like and I'm not 100% sure what effect the outer harbour has had. Other spots include Yarmouth North Beach (always throws up a few fish and one or two better ones) the wreck at Gorleston (not that far away) and then the beach at Hopton, just slightly further down the road are all worth a try. Hope this helps a little! :-) Good luck and tight lines.
Thanks Chris. Access to south beach is slightly restricted but I think I will have to take my chances with the port authorities as I've had a good tip off for a decent spot round there lol. I'll have a shot at all the places you mentioned. Cheers for the advice. Looking good forward to your next video.
Adam Murphy yand is
great video buddy, can we do those sausage and frozen for the next session? tia
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it. :-) I'm sure you could make a few up and freeze them, would definitely be worth an experiment!
Hey mate...hello fromTexas USA!! I appreciate your shows and your love of the water. Question: can you please tell me what kind of rods and reels you used in this episode? Thanks and keep up the good work...
Hi Levon de Carlo nice to hear from you all the way over in the USA!!! :-) The rods I'm using are Greys GRX-s and the reels are the Penn 525 MAG 2, hope that helps!
I love your cod quest guys, when is episode 6 out? Keep at it as I'm sure you will get a nice 4lber on film for us soon. In you experience if the fish are there what works best, black lug or fresh blow lug? I managed two 3lb cod from the Bristol channel last week on fresh lug and a squid cocktail, I fancy trying black although it seems expensive compared to fresh, I know some swear by it?....Keep up the good work and Tight lines for the next episode :)
Hi Simon Bohin thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them! Glad you enjoyed the series of video's, fingers crossed the next instalment should be filmed on Saturday, it's just been struggle for time over the festive period etc Good to hear your fishing is going well! :-) I do like fresh blow lug, however I think that's because it's all we tend to get around my area! If I could get a good supply of 'fresh blacks' (not frozen) I'd be tempted to use them! Tough like leather and proper snake worms!!! ;-) Thanks again and tight lines, cheers Chris.
not sure where you're from but the cod fishing is alot different up this end (north east), only fishing when the sea is away, strictly night time and casting into gulleys/depressions between breakers in the beach with big crab/crab cocktail baits at low water, travel light and keep moving if you don't get fish. might be worth adopting some of these tactics? i'm sure the same tactics would work down there depending on the venue. enjoyed the video anyway mate keep it up
Thanks +eatsleepfish glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. We are in East Anglia, Norfolk, so we are pretty limited with our beach fishing - mostly standard shallow surf beaches in the summer (North Norfolk) and then some deeper shingle beaches in the winter (down South, into Suffolk). I'm guessing if you are north east you have a bit of broken and rough kelp ground you can fish?
Theres certainly been a few fish around this year though, had a few Codling the other week to nearly 5lb, did put a few pictures on Facebook - new video should be coming soon too! :-)
Hope your fishing is going well and that you've been catching a few!
Tight lines
Cheers Chris
thanks for the reply wasn't really expecting one!
yeah, most of our beaches are surrounded in heavy kelp and rocks so it seems to hold the fish and they move onto the beaches when the sea is away. the few long clean beaches we do have don't tend to fish so well so i suppose that's what you have to deal with down there.
we've had a great season so far down here few 20lb+ bags and a good stamp with a few to 7lb already between me and my mate, normally the good stamp starts december but it's came early. i'll share a few on your fb page mate, cant wait to see the new video. good luck with your channel
Hi there. Please could you give your expert opinion, cus I’m new to beach fishing. What bait would you recommend for bream, and what size hooks would you use. Thanks Alan 👍
Small bits of squid I reckon Alan! Although I've never caught one... we don't really get them around our coastline!
Do you fish Kessingland beach much? I use to spend nearly every weekend there with mum and dad beach fishing my mum was one hell of a beach caster lol also use to go to the mark behind birds eye factory loads of sole from there, but sadly not been for years now living in Leicester isn't great if your into sea fishing lol tho I did have a 8lb sea bass last year off Filey beach 😀
Hi Peter, yeah we fish there a fair bit - we've done a few video's from there! :-) Congrats on the Bass, thats a good'un! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Thanks again
No worries Alan! :-)
Hi Chris, where do you buy your lug from and how much per 100.great video as always. Mike Norfolk
Hi Mike, I get my lug from either Angling Direct Norwich or Beccles, depending on where abouts on the coast I'm fishing and what direction I'm travelling in!
Nice try Chris, the quest continues :)
Thanks Jan Nowicki indeed! Fingers crossed this weekend!!! :-)
Great video. As a newbie, can I just ask, what is "the ebb"? Is that when the tide is at its highest?
Thanks mate! The Ebb is when the tide is going out and the Flood is when it's coming in. The tide ebbs all the way down to low water and floods all the way into high water.
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV I thought an ebb tide was when the tide is the smallest difference between hide and low in height
No mate. An ebb tide is when the tide is going out.
Its more about the tips and information for me. Catching isn't so important as long as the advice is good. More bass videos please.
Cheers mark williams
Great tip with the squid bait, really works well, size doesn't matter tho whiting still manage to get their mouths round it... :(
Haha, I know what you mean +Kellie Rowland sometimes it doesn't matter what you use, the Whiting still manage to eat it!!! Can be frustrating at times!
Question, why not try whiting for bait?
Did you get out Saturday after? When's the video coming!
Hi Owain Morgan we didn't I'm afraid! Hopefully we'll put that right this weekend though.
Excellent videos, how is Aldeburgh fishing at present, I live in South Wales, might have an opportunity to visit shortly. Brian
Cheers +Brian Brooks glad you enjoyed it, thanks for taking the time to comment. To be honest I haven't been down to Aldeburgh in some time now! I know the fishing has been very slow though, so unfortunately at the moment I wouldn't waste the petrol! Haha. There's probably better fishing to be had closer to where you are? :-)
+From The Waters Edge TV If I do come down, what is best angling shop to get bait..... Expect your tied up with family life... the reason why I stopped some 35 years ago. Tight lines Brian
another great video guys for me fishing is never disappointing as long as I'm out there then nothing else matters, the baits that you made up would it be worth freezing them? as you said in the vid you can sit & make as many as you like
Hi Michael Smart thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video! I do know what you mean... its always nice to be out really and sure beats sitting in front of the TV! :-) Ummmmm yeah, I'm guessing the baits would freeze ok, but you would be re-freezing them. If you could get fresh blacks and fresh squid (perhaps from supermarket fish counter) that might be a winner!!! :-)
cheers m8 thanks for getting back to me, I think your bang on fresh is best but I just thought preparation in the cold weather is good
Hi Chris, you seem to prefer fishing an ebbing tide on the cod quest. Why is that?
Hi mate, it depends on the venue really, as some fish better on different tides. Although sometimes (as often time is limited) I just go when I can and can't always plan the tides perfectly. Whatever happens though, I like, if possibly to fish either 3 up and 3 down or 3 down and 3 up. Normally fishing either side of high or low waters is good.
Don't throw the squid guts away, whip them into the blacks as well, more attraction!
Might be worth walking past the groynes and into the deeper water past the metal (ONAC) gate. A half hour walk puts you into deeper water and away from the hordes
.
Thanks Greg Diaper Yeah I have fished up the Dirty Wall a few times and enjoyed some nice fishing. It might be something I try next time, it was just in this session it was nice to just blow away the cobwebs etc! Good luck with your fishing and tight lines, cheers Chris.
Hi Chris, I think the above was my first ever comment on a video, but seeing you not use the squid guts made me sit up!
The Wall fished great over Christmas, we had cod up to 7lb, but this is a bumper year and even mere mortals like myself can haul them out! My report is on WSF.
Great work with the sea fishing videos, keep 'em coming!
nice video thanks you
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it! :-)
I never heard of using Sandworms for Cod ,here in the US ,we use skimmer clams
Nice one Edward, do you catch on them? I've never used clams myself.
Hi, is it okay to fish that section' I wanted to fish there on my last session but looked a bit off limits do I need permission thanks good video
Hi +Aaron Price glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for the kind comments too. This stretch at Aldeburgh is completely free, you can fish all the way along it. Hope that helps, cheers Chris.
You never need permission when sea angling. If there is a competition on, try not to get between the pegs though, just go either side of them all. Stops them all being sensitive. You never need anyone's permission to sea fish so good luck and tight lines!
Hi great vids! Am fairly new to fishing so they really do help. One thing however, whenever I see your baits i.e. lug or rag they always seem nice and fat and long however whenever I buy these baits, even from a variety of angling shops, I always seem to get worms that are really thin and emaciated and not very long - whats your secret..8-)
Hi Steve Ridley glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks for the kind comments. Ummmm as far as baits go (unless you dig your own) getting quality/bigger baits can be a bit of a lottery and sometimes it depends on what the digger is able to supply to the shops etc My baits aren't always that great, but perhaps they look bigger and better as I do tend to pile them on the hook a little bit!!! Haha! I haven't really got any secrets as such. :-)
What is the most productive time period to fish?
ex:
Low Tide: 5:38am 0.2ft
Slack: 6:31am
Flow: 9:44am @ +2.2 kts
High Tide: 11:44am 7.6ft
Slack:12:20pm
Ebb: 2:38pm @ -1.2 kts
It’s impossible to say Mike, as each beach is different. Personally I like the big spring tides, the first few after a full moon or new moon. Then depending on the beach I’d fish three hours up and three down. Or three hours down and three up. 🎣😊
Hi Chris, what is the names of your beach rods?
Hi Scott, it's the Greys GRX-s model, it's about 10 years old tho... I think they've been discontinued now!
Do you guys use blood worms like in the USA. They work great here in Salt water.
We do have bloodworm in the UK, but they're tiny and are used in freshwater. (Perhaps they different from your variety?)
They must be a different species than in the states. Our blood worms are dug from salt mud flats and are about 12 inches long. The have a set of four pinchers that shoot out of the front of the worms.
Why don't u have a trip up to Holderness coast/river humber, crawling with cod at the mo
It's just getting time chris mack with family, work and the festive period it's been very busy! Plus thats a long trek for us from Norwich. I would love to one day though, I've heard good things about the Humber!! Hope your fishing is going well. Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Where abouts do you recommend down the Holderness Coast mate? I'm local to the area and just getting in to beach fishing so would really appreciate the feedback (done a lot of course fishing but no beach/sea fishing)..
After doing a couple of recces it just looks like flat, sandy beaches to me most of the way down our coastline so I'm guessing it would be hard to chuck the bait out to an acceptable distance?
Hi Chris, like your videos, but when is the next one?
Hi James Guile new video was posted up on Friday! :-)
"Things looked good but it's just not happened"...Yeah, I know that feeling. The right tide, good water conditions...but where are the fish?? Living in America, it's interesting to see how you boys on the other side of the pond do it. "Sea fishing" known as "Surf Fishing" over here is my favorite. You never know what you're gonna get, and there's always a shot at something big. Do you primarily fish with conventional tackle? I find larger payloads (6 ounces and up) much easier to throw with conventional gear. Great video. Tight lines..
Hi AngelsLastVengeance first of all thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, especially from all the way over in the US! :-) Secondly glad you enjoyed the video. I know what you mean, 'sea fishing' or 'surf casting' is my favourite too, it's definitely a case of you never know whats around the corner!! Most of the time it can be quite disappointing, but those times when it does all go right, definitely out weigh the bad and make it all worth while. I'm guessing your fishing maybe a little more interesting than ours (warmer and more/bigger fish too!!!)?? Yeah I normally use conventional gear and 6oz is pretty much my maximum, I do always carry a couple of 7oz leads, but if things get that rough that I need to use them, i'll generally retreat home!!! Haha! Thank you once again, good luck with your fishing and of course, tight lines! Cheers Chris.
From The Waters Edge TV Hey, Chris...always nice to meet a fellow surfcaster, or seacaster, if you will. LoL...Things over here are winding down as far the season goes. My primary fishing ground is the beaches of New Jersey, and the falling ocean temps have sent all the bigger fish down south for the season. There's still plenty of fishing to be had from the boats, but for those of us who choose to do it by land, it's pretty much a wrap. We get quite a variety of fish along our coast. It starts in the spring with Striped Bass and Bluefish, then once the ocean temps heat up, it's a variety of tasty panfish, including some delicious Fluke, which look quite a bit like your sole fish over there. In the dead of summer, your best bite is at night, mainly for sharks. I agree with you about those "magical days" outweighing all those fishless casts. It is nice when it all comes together, yeah? Best of luck on your next outing. Cheers, David.
Nice to meet you too David! :-) Sounds like you have some nice varied fishing AngelsLastVengeance well a little bit more than ours anyway! :-) As with all forms though, we still rely on the weather, tides, conditions and sea temperatures!! Thanks for the kind comments, goof luck on your next outing too! Cheers Chris.
Did you use booms to keep the crab of
No I didn't Freddy, normally I'd only use booms for flatfish to help keep the bait on the bottom.
Thanks
No worries Pawel!
hey all as a noob to sea fishin how often to u recast to check bait or reposition ???
Start off timing it for around 15 minutes or so... if you are coming back with no bait, slowly reduce the time. Thats a rough guide anyway. :-)
cheers will give it a go From The Waters Edge TV
Whats the head torch you are using?
Hi mate, apologies I don't actually know the exact make! I was given it by a friend... I've since bought a new one though, one by a company called Cree I think - they make some decent ones!
When he says that water temp. Is about 12 degrees does he mean Celsius or fahrenheit?
Celsius mate :)
Hi Joey Rohrbaugh I meant Celsius, if it was fahrenheit it would be around -11! Haha! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Hi have watched your UA-cam videos fishing on east coast coming up from Northampton next week like to fish aldeburgh dunwich or shingle street any suggestions high tide around midday 11 /5 /21 and best bait shop lug squid blueythanks alan
If the fish are there you should catch them Alan! I'd probably put one fishy bait out on a pennel rig (bluey/squid) for the chance of a Ray, then fish one on worms, perhaps 2 hook rig with smaller hooks and fish for anything to try and get a few bits. Hope you manage a few fish, tight lines, cheers Chris.
Should use whole squid cod have a great appetite
Squid is a great bait Edward, unfortunately we just don't have the Cod along our coastline anymore.
Bro it's all about where the the bait is if the shoreline is shifting then the bait moves on
What kind of rig are you using here? Whats the name? I would like to try that in the US.
It's a pulley pennel rig mate. Nice to hear from you all the way over in the US too! Hope you're fishing is going well. :-)
Thanks! I am actually getting some nice surf English rods.. You guy have much better rods than we do here.
What kind of line strength do you use
Normally 15lb Pawel, sometimes 18lb depending on where I'm fishing
Has he ever caught anything other than Whiting and crabs?
Occasionally I do mate! More often off camera than on it tho, although if you watch our beach fishing playlist you'll see a few different species. One's bigger than 6 inches too.
👍👍
I go beach fishing for mackerel and I use fethars or fake plastic baits
Nice one, Mackerel are a fun fish to catch! They fight hard for there size too!!
Where can I find those telescopic rod holders?
Hi John, if you click the Tackle Box link in the video description you should see a link to them.
Thank you.
Maybe the blokey who likes the frozen blacks is out casting you, I remember when I was a small caster my mate who’s bait presentation wasn’t as good as mine was always out fishing me. Soon as I learned to cas I was out doing him. From the way I’ve seen you cast your hitting between 50-80yds. Get some casting lessons & I bet you get more & better fish
Thats a shout Justin. Definitely an area I need to improve on!
It’s a nightmare learning but once you’ve got it you’ll really enjoy it. 👍
Great video guys and unlucky Chris! I love the idea of the blacks and squid wraps, I use these 2 baits a lot and I might have to try that out. Good luck for the next Cod Quest and I hope you catch that old elusive Cod! :)
Thanks MrBeefcake glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Haha, yes indeed, felt a bit 'rusty' in this session, so looking forward to getting back out in the next week or so! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
