A good tip is, if you are fishing a beach barren of worm baits is to seed the beach with any live worms left over when you finish your session. Just dig a few holes about four inches down and close to the waters edge and pop a worm in each. I did this on Portreath beach in Cornwall when I lived there and although you would occasionally pick up a dog fish or mackerel, there was very little of anything around because the beach had no good natural source of food. Ten years on, the worm had bred and spread along the beach and Bass were turning up to feed on them.
another tip on Ragworm......if you dip your trace in the sea first before casting..(complete with worms on)..the worms harden up instantly so you don't snap the worms on the cast....great vid yet again..
Hi jo15518 thanks for the tip, I never knew that, will have to try it out next time I use them! :-) Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment.
Can get big tide run here especially with northerly winds , rag will catch anytime of year on this coast had some good soles on this stretch great bids thanks for doing them in these trying times
Thank you for the tips and awsome video. I've only just started fishing and looking to try catching some dabs on the weekend so I'll keep them tips in mind as they are similar fish 😎
Hi Chris, Yet another great video never tried for sole before so was of real interest as usual. The tips you giving out are a great help makes a lot of sense .. the thinking angler is a true angler. Nice fish ! So many days we all experience next to perfect conditions and only get an odd fish or two or blank..but that's fishing ! it's great to see honest fishing as I call it rather than edited footage of big fish being caught and it's such a pleasure just to be out in the fresh air enjoying the surroundings. Nice to get a fish or two but never to be disheartened if not ..there's always another day.
Hi John Lindsay as usual thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the latest vid! :-) And your right with what you say, it's always nice to catch a fish or two especially when it's the target species! Hopefully there'll be another day for more and bigger Sole! Not long till the Cod fishing season now tho!!! :-)
another great video - thanks for posting. When the conditions aren't right to get out I enjoy watching your vids and getting some tips for next trip! Many thanks
Thanks +hedgcock83 glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. Fingers crossed we should be back out on the beach again soon!
Hi Chris Excellent, not overstated and really nice delivery of tips and the obvious passion you have, as an older guy who is just looking to get back into Angling or fishing I really enjoyed it and I want the beach or rock fishing. Regards DG New Forest Uk
Thanks for the kind comments David and for taking the time to post them! Glad you enjoyed the video :-) Fingers crossed we should have some new beach fishing video's coming very soon! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Ah thanks dean hollister glad you enjoyed the video and glad that you find them helpful, it means alot. Keep going with your fishing, hopefully your catching a few! :-)
yeah mate, ragworms are the best for sole fishing, we also use that bait over here in The Netherlands for sole :D gonna use your kind of rig this year though so i ought to thank you for the tip :D
Hi anther great episode , if you ever go fishing for flatfish again I would advice you don't youse leads on your snoods because when the bait hits the bottom the lead on your snood keeps your bait on the bottom and the sand covers your bait and also you want your bait to be able to move around in the water to attract the fish . Anther pice of advice would be to try other leads other than grip leads you could try clock leads ect. Great video look forward to the next one
Thanks David Farrelly glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment, it's much appreciated. :-) We used small leads on the line to do exactly that; keep the bait pinned to the bottom. Sole are bottom feeders and want a static bait, that doesn't move and that is pinned to the sea bed. I'd only use these leads on the snoods when fishing for Sole, as having you bait pinned to the sea bed is less of a necessity when fishing for other species. Each and everyone to there own tho :-) Looking forward to the Cod fishing season now, so hopefully a new video will be up soon. Good luck with your fishing and of course, tight lines! :-)
Cheers Dude, really enjoy ya vids and my catch rate has really improved .. all thanks to you and also other dedicated anglers on UA-cam. You're the best and you also fish my local beaches.Nothing beats a Norfolk flattie 🐟, have a pint on me 🍺
Hi summermarkms thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video! :-) Fingers crossed we'll be back out again soon for the Flatties! Hope your fishing is going well and that your catching a few! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Great video as always!...I'm hoping to get back out on the beaches here in the north west of Ireland to do a bit of flattie fishing, love catching them!..best of luck and looking forward to the next one!..tight lines
Thanks phastasphuck666 glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for dropping us a comment too! Yeah me too… I guess catching Flatties was were my love for sea fishing started, when my Dad used to take me as a young'un! I still like catching them now :-) I'd love to fish over in Ireland one day, seems you have an array of different species and lots of angling opportunities! Do you ever catch Turbot, Brill or Plaice from your beaches? A few flattie species that here in Norfolk we never see! Good luck with your fishing and of course, tight lines!
Ah thanks nathan watson glad you enjoy the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. We'll carry on trying to produce the goods :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Hi nathan watson I wouldn't personally, as it's not the 'done thing' around our part of the coast, it's also not readily available. I know they use it quite a bit down South though! :-)
Hi guys first time i've watched your vids and they are great i will definately be watching more of them. I went fishing a couple of weeks ago targeting flatfish. i ended up without the flatties never showed but i still got a doggie and two codling both around two pound. ( PB Fish ) great vid again can't wait till your next vid keep them up !!!
Hi Elliot Hayes thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, glad you enjoyed the video! :-) Fingers crossed we'll be out and about filming again soon! :-) Good luck with your fishing and of course… tight lines! :-)
I own a lodge where you are fishing and have just taken up sea fishing. Any tips for that mark? I'm heading there tomorrow for the weekend!! Come join!!
Nice one Robert - it's a lovely part of the country! Ummmm probably, with the way the fishing has been recently I'd be using small hooks and baits and trying to catch anything - I reckon there's a great chance of some bits (whiting and flatties) with the chance of a bass or two, too. Might even be worth chucking out another rod with a bigger fish bait on, with the outside chance of a Thornback Ray or something. I can't join this weekend, but perhaps another time! :-) Let us know how you get on. Be lucky, cheers Chris.
Thanks for the video. I've been trying around Caister and off Gorleston pier but nothing doing. Saw a few caught out of the river. Never seen so many seals, I see one or two every session. I've been hoping for Bass and have seen them jumping right where I put my bait but the huge amounts of weed just smothered my line. The weed is making it almost impossible at the top of the tide. Any advice or ideas always welcome. Cheers.
Hi David Harvey sorry to hear your struggling at the moment, what baits have you been using? Things should start to pick up now, as the winter species head inshore. In another month or so take a trip to Hopton, Kessingland or Pakefield, fish the biggest evening tides of the month and use some big Lugworm baits, I'm sure you'll pick some fish up then! :-) When the weed is around it can be really tough… tips I'd say would be… 1.) Keep your rod up as high as you can, to keep as much line out the surf as possible 2.) Keep you rigs as simple as possible, as for every swivel, bait clip, or clip link you have, the more weed it will attract. Other than those two little tips I'm not really sure what else you can do! SOmetimes if it's too weedy it's not worth fishing, better to save your bait for another day! Hope this helps. Cheers Chris
I have copied your cod quest baits and have used squid, sandeel, mackerel and of course lug. My biggest challenge at present is night casting, I am struggling to get a good cast. I picked up beach fishing after what must be more than 40 years and casting in the day came back to me like riding a bike but not so with night casting. I don't recall it was ever a problem apart from with multiplier reels. Thanks for your tips, I'll certainly try them out.
Hi john wrasse ahhhh that's great news about your Hound fishing! Did you manage any big'uns? Haha… I know, we'd been on the go since 4am, was like a mammoth 20 hour day in the end!!! Plaice is a good shout, altho that might have to wait until next spring now, would like to get a similar video done for all Flatfish, so would probably be Dabs, Flounder then Plaice I reckon. Glad you enjoyed this video and thanks for taking the time to comment. Tight Lines, Cheers Chris.
Hi fadil begic we catch a fish called a Smoothound, which is a member of the Shark family. They are superb fighters and offer great sport! I prefer to return them though, I can't bring myself to take them home! Anyway, hope your fishing is going well! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
I love your flicks. But feel soooo sorry for you (such limited opportunities for big fish). Come to Western Australia on a holiday cobber and I'll take you land-based fishing and blow your mind. Until then - make the most of Blighty!
Hi Darren! Haha... I know mate, we're not blessed with great saltwater fishing... well not locally too us anyway! I'd love to come over to Australia one day - two of my friends are over there now and they've already said the opportunities are endless! Hope you've been catching a few, cheers Chris.
Cheers for doing these vids for free and the great advice. I bet you worn out? Thanks. Love the ending lol. Looking cool catches the fish. Did not know you can fish at low water.
Another good sea fishing video probably one of the best lads doing the vids out there keep it up :) where do you get your bait tub from and what is the name of your tip lights
Thanks Curtis northeast glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment, it's much appreciated :-) Ummmm I'm not too sure about the bait bucket, I bought it from an Angling Direct store a few years back, it wasn't branded or anything. The tip lights are Starlite XL Cliplites, there's a link to the tackle used in the video description, so if you click that you can see everything. Hope that helps! Cheers Chris :-)
Hi got told by the old boys that there's plenty of sole on the beach I fish but no one fishes for them. What size bullet weight would you recommend? Tia
Hi mate your videos are real good to watch . I am currently having trouble to find a good flattie rig . What do you currently use and how good has it been for you.
HI anthony heywood thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video! If you have a look at our latest sea fishing video - Fishing For Flatfish, Dabs - I talk about 3 different rigs I use. These are my favourite and should hopefully answer your question! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Yh I saw that one mate and again great video. I enjoy watching them I am making the boom rig but I am going to make it so I can put the booms any were on the rig if you know what I mean.
hello from Egypt and thank you for that great video I really enjoyed it. i wanted to ask for something, is the rag worm the only bait that is good for sole fishing? any other options?
Hi mate, no worries at all, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment. :-) Ragworm is a good bait for Sole, but Lugworm is also very good.
Ah thats a shame Andrey we are quite lucky where we are, we are only around thirty minutes away from the nearest part of the coastline and we have lots of decent fishing opportunities, especially in the spring and summer months! :-)
From The Waters Edge TV nice one mate, just subbed, watched a few now. good job, i have not beach fished in over 3 years, beach buddy has been out and checked, ABU 6500,s stripped and oiled, rods whipped over, in process of untangling tackle box. thanks to you i got the bug back! nice one mate
If you pop a search in on Google or UA-cam there'll probably be a tutorial. It's easier to see it done than for me to try and explain through text how to do it. It's quite simple though :-)
Great video Chris! Exactly where in the UK are you? I'm definitely going to start targeting some flounder and sole here on the Oregon beaches. I catch them by mistake when targeting perch but think I'll build a few rigs that sit on the bottom and catch a few. Great job, be well and fish on! Love the accent! Mark in Oregon, USA
Thanks againMark Abolofia glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! :-) Yeah definetely give it a go and let us know how you get on! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
No I havent +Harrison P however I've heard of people using plastic lures, jigs and worms to catch Flounder. (They have more aggressive tendencies than the Sole.)
They are called Starlite Cliplites I believe +michael tutt if you click the Tackle link in the video description I believe you should see them there. Hope that helps.
There's no need to put an extra sinker on that rig to keep your bait on the bottom.. A flat fish isn't gonna swallow that bait and then proceed to run with it with the sinker until the run is transmitted to the rod tip. If you want to keep it pinned to the bottom just use a very very very small sinker right behind the hook, like a size 00. 'This may not pin it down completely, but you have a next to zero chance of feeling a bit from a lil flatfish with the extra sinker there. A lil' movement is good... plus you would be very surprised at how even in current, your bait can keep on the bottom. Fluorocarbon will also hold bottom better than mono. If you really felt the need, I suppose a size 0 crimped just behind the hook would definitely do the job and not be too heavy.
From The Waters Edge TV No problem at all. As fishermen, there's always room for improvement, you're never ever gonna get to a point where there is nothing left to learn. Cheers!
***** I was not criticizing' him as a person, or even criticizing his videos, didn't mean to give that impression at all. Seems like a nice guy, someone Id fish with. I was criticizing the rig as I myself know from my personal experience, that the added sinker, especially the size he was using would not allow him to detect the bite from a flounder and other small/gentle fish. 'I did not imply that I'm a better fisherman... or that I know more... or that I'm more experienced, like I said, there's always more to learn. 'Maybe what he's learned from his personal fishing experience, could be helpful to me in other ways. 'The fact of the 'matter is, the added sinker in the location it was placed, in that particular rig/set-up, would be a waste of a sinker, a waste of bait and a waste of time, kind of like how me taking the time to reply to an obvious troll is a waste of my time.
Hi ummarqureshi these were on ready made rigs, so I'm not 100% sure! But I do know a very popular model for flatfish and other small species is the Kamasan B940M Aberdeen Match Hook, these are available in smaller sizes and are nice and fine in the wire. Hope this helps, tight lines, cheers Chris.
Hi marc williams ummmm ocassionally I used to, but less and less now. For me catching it is enough, especially if we manage to get a nice sizeable fish for the camera, that gives me enough of a buzz. :-)
Thanks Joshua! Glad you enjoyed it. They are some old Greys GRX-s rods, don't think they are even made anymore. They have served me well but might be getting some new one's for this season! :-D
Thanks for all your videos, I've picked up loads of tips & tricks and being new to sea fishing they're invaluable. I have just one question though; Why do you set your rods/tripod at an angle to the sea? Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to your next vid already........
Hi Paul Burgess thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, glad you enjoy the video's too! :-) In regard to the rods/tripod, it's not something I alway do, but the reason for it, is because I can see the tips better and register a bite easier, rather than looking at them straight down the blanks. Hope that make sense :-) Good luck with your fishing and of course, tight lines! :-)
Can someone advise me on some good beaches in the uk that is good for fishing, because i want to start beach fishing and i always used to go carp fishing. with many thanks Hubert ;)
Yeah I know what you mean richard best Thats the thing with sea fishing, the fish are there one tide and not the next! It's the worlds largest commercial fishery! Some days you could be miles away from the fish and as they say, you can only catch whats in front of you!
over complicated rig that wil tangle very easy wen casted ,an itt is better to fish with tight lines as the bottom slopes the line keeps near the bottom any way
Hi +Dee Cee the rig didn't tangle for me, in actual fact I think the small leads actually helped keep the snoods straight and away from the rig body. Also the beach doesn't slope that much there, it's not very deep, so if you do fish a tight line you can end up with a very aggressive angle to the sea bed.
love the way you talk about your rigs and baits
Thanks Philip, glad you're enjoying the video's. :-)
Ah greats stuff InTheNameOfJustice thanks for the info! :-)
Very well demonstrated the rigs. Well done buddy
another tip on Ragworm......if you dip your trace in the sea first before casting..(complete with worms on)..the worms harden up instantly so you don't snap the worms on the cast....great vid yet again..
No worries at all mate, thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them. :-)
Thanks for taking the time to make this vid, I really enjoyed it. Tight lines :)

Hi Chris,
Yet another great video never tried for sole before so was of real interest as usual.
The tips you giving out are a great help makes a lot of sense .. the thinking angler is a true angler.
Nice fish !

NICE VIDEO MAN!!!!!! GREAT
Thanks SurfCastingGalicia cartrò glad you enjoyed it! :-)
What size bullet do you use please
Hi got told by the old boys that there's plenty of sole on the beach I fish but no one fishes for them. What size bullet weight would you recommend? Tia
I don't know mate really... More important would be to not cast too far and keep your rod tips fairly low! 😊
Hi, I like your videos, watching with envy. What camera do you use? Thanks for sharing.
Hi James Guile thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoy the videos! :-) We use a Sony NX30 camera, hope that helps!
I think you guys should move to New Zealand.
Haha! I bet you have some good fishing over there grumpy I bet it's slightly warmer too!!!
hello from Egypt and thank you for that great video I really enjoyed it. i wanted to ask for something, is the rag worm the only bait that is good for sole fishing? any other options?
Hi mate, no worries at all, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment. :-) Ragworm is a good bait for Sole, but Lugworm is also very good.
There's not much fishing of shore where I'm from
Ah thats a shame Andrey we are quite lucky where we are, we are only around thirty minutes away from the nearest part of the coastline and we have lots of decent fishing opportunities, especially in the spring and summer months!
Freshwater fisherman migrating to sea fishing, how would you go about gutting a flatfish?
If you pop a search in on Google or UA-cam there'll probably be a tutorial. It's easier to see it done than for me to try and explain through text how to do it. It's quite simple though :-)
Thanks
Great video Chris! Exactly where in the UK are you? I'm definitely going to start targeting some flounder and sole here on the Oregon beaches. I catch them by mistake when targeting perch but think I'll build a few rigs that sit on the bottom and catch a few. Great job, be well and fish on! Love the accent! Mark in Oregon, USA
The beach he is on is in sizewell, suffolk.
Thanks againMark Abolofia glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! :-) Yeah definetely give it a go and let us know how you get on! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Great video : )
Ah thanks Tracie Smith glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for taking the time out to comment, its much appreciated! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
+From The Waters Edge TV. No thank you for all time you spend putting up great videos ,keep it up mate. Thanks again: )
Have you ever used soft plastic lures on these fish?
No I havent +Harrison P however I've heard of people using plastic lures, jigs and worms to catch Flounder. (They have more aggressive tendencies than the Sole.)
hi mate where do you get the rod lights from many thanks mick
They are called Starlite Cliplites I believe +michael tutt if you click the Tackle link in the video description I believe you should see them there. Hope that helps.
That norfolk accent haha nice videos!
Haha! ITFC45 Glad you liked the accent and video's and thanks for taking the time to comment! By you UA-cam name can I guess your from suffolk!? ;-)
yupp haha
Thanks for the feedback ***** interesting to read your comments! :-) Tight lines, cheers.
Hay quá anh ơi
what hooks do u use to catch????can u tell me the name and number of hook??
Hi ummarqureshi these were on ready made rigs, so I'm not 100% sure! But I do know a very popular model for flatfish and other small species is the Kamasan B940M Aberdeen Match Hook, these are available in smaller sizes and are nice and fine in the wire. Hope this helps, tight lines, cheers Chris.
wens the next video for sea fishing
Hi Henri Thomas we should hopefully be out in the next week or so, starting the next part of the Cod quest! :-)
cool stuff do you know roughly what day
Alright Colz, do you ever keep anything you catch?
Hi marc williams ummmm ocassionally I used to, but less and less now. For me catching it is enough, especially if we manage to get a nice sizeable fish for the camera, that gives me enough of a buzz. :-)
love the video mate can I ask what rods do you use?
Thanks Joshua! Glad you enjoyed it. They are some old Greys GRX-s rods, don't think they are even made anymore. They have served me well but might be getting some new one's for this season! :-D
More bass videos please.....
We'll see what we can do mark williams ;-)
whens the next video
for sea fishing
Hi Henri Thomas I'm not too sure at the moment, hopefully we should be out in the next week or so tho! :-)
thanks
I caught a skate on deal pier on bluey and sand ell on deal pier bottom deck
with red impact and pully pennel
Great stuff Henri Thomas
What rod do you use bro
Greys GRX-s mate. 👍🏼😌🎣
From The Waters Edge TV hahahaha! and here's me thinking there was some scientific reason for it..lol... Thanks for the reply though...
Can someone advise me on some good beaches in the uk that is good for fishing, because i want to start beach fishing and i always used to go carp fishing.
with many thanks Hubert ;)
Where abouts in the UK are you +polacek nowacek
Good vid I love sea fishing but I've never had any luck :(
Thanks Archie Robinson glad you enjoyed it! Ahhh keep going mate, I'm sure it'll come good in the end! :-)
Have had many a day of traveling down to dungenesse just to catch 1 dab
Yeah I know what you mean richard best Thats the thing with sea fishing, the fish are there one tide and not the next! It's the worlds largest commercial fishery! Some days you could be miles away from the fish and as they say, you can only catch whats in front of you!
Dover sole or Lemon sole?
Dover Sole Terry.
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV Only the best for you lads :)
You don't want sugary energy drinks, you need decent sandwiches with high protein stuff inside.
Good point! :-)
over complicated rig that wil tangle very easy wen casted ,an itt is better to fish with tight lines as the bottom slopes the line keeps near the bottom any way
Hi +Dee Cee the rig didn't tangle for me, in actual fact I think the small leads actually helped keep the snoods straight and away from the rig body. Also the beach doesn't slope that much there, it's not very deep, so if you do fish a tight line you can end up with a very aggressive angle to the sea bed.

Haha, thanks mate! :-)
That was a long speech that fish is dead already when you put it back to the water...😆😆😆😆👏
