    Sea Fishing For Cod From The Beach - Cod Quest Part Four
    For this latest latest episode we carried on in pursuit of a shore caught Cod, however we swapped the steep shingle beaches of suffolk and headed to north Norfolk and to a typical sandy Norfolk surf beach. Armed with a bucket of fresh Peeler Crab and 100 lug, just how did we get on... find out by watching the latest episode.
    As usual we hope you enjoy it and any feedback is always much appreciated.

      Ah thanks John, that really means alot, it's always nice to hear positive feedback and to know that people find odd bits and pieces useful. As I say, it's just my way of doing things, so I don't preach gospel, but they work for me! Altho at the moment, they aren't working too well! :-)) My luck will change soon I'm sure! Once again thank you for the kind comments. Good luck with your fishing and of course, tight lines!!! :-)

    never apologise you fished well and caught fish and I like the sea fishing shows you make. Learnt a great deal. A fish is a fish. I am learning more from you each time and I now starting out and bought a good od and a spool reel and getting my basic kit ready for fishing. Can't wait.

      From The Waters Edge TV That positive attitude is what makes us fishermen! If you don't expect a bite on every cast then what are you doing there? LOL It's interesting you mix baits. My grandfather always said you should only put on one bait at a time. His logic was that if they wanted to eat one bait but not the other they wouldn't take the bait. Fish are funny though. Some times they will hit anything that moves and other times they won't...

    • @FromTheWatersEdgeTV
      @FromTheWatersEdgeTV  10 років тому

      Thanks Aaron Garrett Haha, you are right though! :-) Yeah I can see your Grandfathers point, I know a popular rig for this is the Wishbone rig, as this allows you to fish two different baits close together, so in theory give the fish a choice of what there'd prefer to eat! :-)

    Enjoyed your excellent videos on cod. You somehow managed to make the late nights, freezing cold, luke warm coffee and small fish seem that much more exciting than I previously remember. Never mind the big fish, we all know that will happen someday, we look forward to that. Thanks for providing excellent beach fishing entertainment for us who have the beach fishing bug. I even brought my gear and continued beach fishing now I live here in Oz, total addict. The fish and chips afterward are not half as good though. Look forward to more of this stuff soon.

      Hi Chris D thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, it's much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed the video's too, I can't wait to get started this autumn/winter now, it's only a few weeks away!!! :-) Sometimes the scenery, views, and general environment (as well as the luke warm coffee!!!) can make up for a lack of fish, I guess it's a bug which all us beach anglers get! Nice to hear from you all the way over in Oz, I bet there's some slightly better fishing to be had and that it's slightly warmer over there! Haha! We do probably still beat you on the fish and chips tho… every cloud I guess! ;-) Once again thanks for taking the time to write, be lucky with your fishing and of course tight lines!

    I will add this, I don't go anywhere without Mackerel bait, I've been lucky and sometimes the ONLY angler to catch a Codling, out of the Masses by using strips of the beautiful Mackerel, when back Home, I dig my own Lug, and if I can get peeler I take, but I always buy mackerel, really great too for Doggy bashing etc. But during November , it has caught me more than 1. Anyway, just saying. Love the Videos

      Back in Ireland around Cork where I'm from, i would normally fish a few places for codling, my buddies would have lug, rag etc, I would too but funny enough I would catch the Codling on the Mackreal :) it has happened a good few times in a place called Cobh, there would be lots of Anglers catching fish but I there too would pull a Codling or 2 on Mackerel, its weird i know lol

    I liked the videos because I now live fairly close to Aldeburgh, though I have known about its reputation over the decades. So you have fired up my enthusiasm to give it a bash. Whiting were and still are a nuisance at Dungeness, on many an autumn night and if you put on ten baits on ten hooks, I am sure you would get strings of whiting like mackerel. At tip you could try which brings big whiting the odd good bass and cod, is a cocktail like you showed in your video with a fresh strip or whole fillet of whiting side. Any way give it a try and tight lines to you son.

    • @FromTheWatersEdgeTV
      @FromTheWatersEdgeTV  10 років тому

      T Green Hi mate, glad you enjoyed the video, thank you for taking the time to comment too! I know what you are saying about the Whiting, they seem to appear in plague proportions sometimes!!! It's such a shame that there aren't the numbers of bigger fish to feed on them, as if there was it would be superb sport. I like the tip about using them as bait though, I have fished them on a live bait rig before, but never had much luck, perhaps I'll try the fillet technique this winter :-) Tight lines to you too! P.S I'm hoping to get down to Dungeness one day, as to me it appeals as the Cod Mecca! I've fished Orford regularly which is the next best thing I think! (well in the East anyway!)

    • @bigowl9408
      @bigowl9408 10 років тому

      From The Waters Edge TV I got the Idea from a chap called Billy the bass. He is a bait digger at Dungeness probably still, is as I got that tip from him some twelve years ago now and said that bass in particular, took fillets of pouting or whiting in preference to live ones! Strange but then angling is such a great sport for the unexpected. Hooped Rods all the way son.

    Seems you fish most your sessions on the Ebb!
    Where i fish (Holderness coast) it fishes better on the flood so we generally fish 4 to 6 hours up and 2 down.
    Is it different at your venues?

      Thanks for the kind comments Andy, glad you enjoyed it. To be honest all our venues fish slightly differently, although most of the time I'm limited with time, so just go when I can. I do like to fish either side of high or low water when I can though. 2up 2down or 2down 2up etc. Your fishing on the Holderness coast is probably miles better than ours too! Haha. Hope you've been catching a few :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.

    Nice video and great rigs etc . I think all the decent fish disappeared inshore decades ago . The 70s saw reasonable though declining fishing for quality fish to be replaced by the odd lucky catch and bags of rubbish . Barely worth the effort though the angling mags keep trying to sell it , sell the gear I should say .

    • @3991-m6u
      @3991-m6u 8 років тому

      +arthur sad but true i think, as far as this kind of bait fishing goes at least. lure and rough ground fishing can still be worth it i'd say, but otherwise it just seems to be a bunch of folk spending a lot of time and money catching next to nothing but thinking its just something they are doing wrong rather than a general decline, because they keep seeing all these 8lb cod in the magazines.

    galveston Texas has some of the best fishing anywhere with huge black and red drum (40 to 50 pound fish are common) you can catch some pretty nice ling and trout all along the texas coast as well as large redfish and massive king mackerel and thats just a small list of what you can catch here.

      I like the way you rigged that squid with the worms stuffed inside i never wrapped the squid to keep it on i just hook the squid run the hook through the body put the worm on and then stick the head on the lower hook to keep the worm on.
      i like your idea, it looks like it will keep the crabs and small fish from getting at your worm alot better.

    Hello- I like your videos- I'm watching from los angeles, California in the US and I wanted to make a few suggestions, I hope they help.
    Try to get as much distance as possible, when I watch you cast it doesn't seem like you get too far out- a distance of 10 feet can greatly improve your chances at catching bigger fish. Walk in deeper maybe before you cast? Or if you can, maybe upgrade to a 12' rod that's medium-heavy fast action. That's what I use and I get incredible distance..
    Also, have you tried using mackerel as bait? It bleeds a lot and attracts a lot of fish. You can wrap a mackerel fillet in squid, it works extremely well for me down here :)
    Have fun, thanks for the videos

      Hi Tony, casting distance all depends on the sort of beach/mark you're fishing. And no multipliers aren't essential, fixed spool reels are perfectly fine too. :-)

Well there was plenty of small fish! This year it seems a little better, however the fish are still relatively small, 1lb-1.5lb etc We shall see I guess! Cornwall... thats a fair way for us! Do you strike in beach fishing or do they hook them selfs

    • @FromTheWatersEdgeTV
      @FromTheWatersEdgeTV  9 років тому

      Hi FlashTinlegs it depends on what the bite is like, if it's a little rattle I will often let is develop, as normally the fish will hook itself, however if it's a proper big bang/slack line bite, I'll immediately wind down and lift into the fish.

    • @FromTheWatersEdgeTV
      @FromTheWatersEdgeTV  7 років тому

      I wouldn't say it's that sophisticated? The pulley rig is very very simple indeed. It's important to use crab in the spring as often thats what the bigger fish are feeding on (the moulting crabs). I know what you mean... this winter its been a sorry state of affairs around our part of the coast... the Codling have virtually been non-existant! Roll on the spring and the Thornbacks and Smoothound... I hope! :-)
