  • The north coast of Somerset and the huge tidal flow of the Bristol channel, the waters are coloured. There are huge open beaches and tackle-hungry reefs, but make no mistake for this stretch of British coastline can throw up some fantastic specimens of fish. From Thornback Ray the size of a dustbin lid to 5-ft conger eels. From double-figure Bass to huge Smoothounds. Fishing with Craig Butler of West Coast tackle and friends, Graeme takes the Totally Awesome Fishing Show to a couple of superb areas, one is a beach, the other, a prehistoric "secret" mark that many will never have seen before. Fishing filmaker Graeme reckons he has the first exclusive footage of this incredible seascape. It was a journey that seemed to go on forever through rockpools and over boulders, as the only time you can fish here is for a three hour period at low tide. And Graeme gets some amazing, exclusive and AWESOME footage of the best beach caster and angler Graeme has ever seen. Courtnay Creech is the man to watch if you want to see the perfect pendulum cast. Courtnay is a Smoothound master, and is a veritable fishing machine. Feast your eyes on just part of an incredible catch he took in just two-3 hour evening sessions. Almost every Hound was a double, a historic feat and TOTALLY AWESOME!

    I really enjoy watching your videos. However this one is truly one of your very best on beach fishing. Full of tips which are always fun. But the footage of the pro is spectacular. The shots of his casting in slow motion was great fun and you captured his focus and intensity. WELL DONE.

    I think they are a deeper water fish from foreign countries. Marketed in frozen packs from tackle shops. The matchmen seem to favour them. I would think they are quite oily. Long and thin. I think they take the side fillet off rather than use the whole fish ?

    Its called a weigh sling. Standard issue on thee UK freshwater scene, and now moving into the sea fishing areas. Protects the fish better for weighing without damage if you want to return them. Better than just hanging them by the gills etc. Purely a protection thing really.

    Well done again! I gleaned so much from this one.
    Noticed all were using J hooks. Any reason not to use circle hooks? Seems it might be helpful, considering the tremendous length of the casts.
    Awesome casting by Courtnay Creech. Any mods to the reels (i.e. ceramic bearings) or other tackle to aid in casting?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  9 років тому +1

      Not heard of them being tried but maybe its because the bait holder release clip would not work with a circle hook ? Something to think about. Not sure about the reel mods that Courtnay uses

    • @Brannok812
      @Brannok812 9 років тому

      TAFishing Many thanks for the quick reply. I have not had an opportunity to try the bait clip arrangement. I plan to correct that this spring. I will try a circle hook on some rigs and see if there is any issue with release. Thanks again and please keep up the good work. I really enjoy reading articles and watching videos from other locations. So often I find things that will work for me, even though my fishing environment and target species are different. Cross-pollination is good!

    Graeme, can mackerel be caught off the north Devon coast (Ilfracombe, Combe Martin) from the shore ? I have caught some from south Devon coast last year. Thanks

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  10 років тому +1

      Worst year many of us have ever known for mackerel. This time of year you should be able to get them off the shore at Ilfracombe around high water, but best to check with the local tackle shop. Might pay to fish a spinner on an evening flood tide and try for them singly, rather than feathers. Good luck.

      @Noname-qk9or 7 років тому

      hi there mate! If you are willing to spend up to £40 for a good quality tripod, then go to Veals Mail Order in Bristol. Then I would definitely go for the VMO 6' MKII PRO TRIPOD. It has self mould U heads for resting your rods on, I think it has a trace clip, and adjustable rod butt caps and adjustable U heads which you can slide up and down the base of your tripod. Hope this helps!

    • @Noname-qk9or
      @Noname-qk9or 7 років тому

      hi mate ik i'm not Graeme, but i'd definitely say from about End of April through Until the end of July, definitely the Smoothhounds! They will strip line of your reel, and your rods will fly off your tripod unless youhave your drag set! Spotted rays are also good little scrappers, and definitely without a shadow of a doubt Conger Eels!
