16:13 I call this a "Jesus Bird" because it looks like it's walking on water. 🙂 I find them useful sailing the coast of Alaska. They are typically standing on a submerged log and are helpful for marking them so you don't hit them. So keep a weather eye out for the Jesus Birds! Thanks for the video.!
You made me laugh! I am from Texas and my mother told me the same thing about eating watermelon seeds. My sisters and I still don't eat the seeds to this day!
Is that a Texas thing? I didn't hear that lie until I was well past that gullible age. I did learn how to make excellent BBQ and amazing cornbread and GOOD grits though. ;-)
As a Kiwi I am with Josh- always eaten the seeds. i dont even notice them. Hope u have some big super bright spotlights you can flick on when u hear unexplained boats/voices
Americans are overly paranoid. Things just work differently in different parts of the world. The supplied explanation , staffing and bureaucracy adequately explain what happened. If you what to talk about effect and intimidation, we were on an Alaskan cruise not too long ago and the cruise ship full of senior citizens wanting to do nothing but spend money was greeted with by a fast coast guard RIB with a manned machine gun on the bow. I've never wanted to wing someone with a beer can so badly.
Awesome video guys.. a little drama w/ late night boarding, some terrific light wind sailing, and a few shots of Nikki’s great cooking sprinkled in. Lovely.
Hi guys, Nikki, when I first started seeing you on the videos I never thought of person be on the yacht/catamaran I thought you’d be the lady that would be driving around in a BMW and etc etc but is so wonderful to see how you are on the sea and you both are growing together. Doing what you love sailing and exploring. Keep up the good work. Cliff from Australia.
Someone needs to invent a proximity alert spotlight that will turn a spotlight on approaching vessels at night and an alarm of some kind. That would have been terrifying- Oh, and from Mississippi- I spit out the seeds but was never told not to, or that I would have “baby melons.” 😂😂😂😂😂
An alarm system already exists. Some (if not most) radars allows you to set a guard ring that sounds an alert if a target enters. When I’m sailing solo I set the ring at 3 miles while at sea so that alerts me to a target approaching if I get drowsy on night watch. I don’t know how small the guard ring can be set though for vessels on very close approach warnings. I would think you could likely push it down to 1/4 mile on most radars although I have never tried.
I'd like to say thankyou for your awesome adventures 💞 I love your humility and love for each other 💕 differently a great exposure for HH. So excited and looking forward to your new adventure out there, upon the seas✨
It was a big scare. Unfortunately, we know of the existence of drug trafficking in the region, despite the strong repression and the judicial system with the death penalty for this type of crime. Congratulations on your coolness and understanding.
I was raised in the lower southeast corner of California. It was a desert area but we had half of the Colorado River water to make the desert green. Out the back door of our house was a watermelon field every year and we would go out when the farmer wasn't there and cut open as many watermelons as we wanted. We ate the seeds.
Well that must have been exciting to have those guys visiting you so late. I need to ask a question, can you install downward facing LED lights on the mast, you should be able to light up the perimeter of the boat so you can see clearly, would be useful for more than just if someone was approaching to see who it is you could have sectors that you could use at any time to see what it happening. I love how you are sailing in light winds, that was a dream of yours and it's great to see it happening.
@@susanhighfield8284 There are LED options that would be quite easy to install that would give plenty of light and you can direct the light that it is useful.
@@Kathikas1 You are imagining that the lights pace inward, if you place a light high up the mast that face outwards they will illuminate the water and space around the boat not the boat itself. In this case you will reduce the visibility of the approaching vessel. Headlights on a car don't blind the driver.
Wow, you're passing by Dumaguete. Do not know if this comment is late and you're already at your Cebu destination but Dumaguete is my hometown and would be very happy to see even just a glimpse of your boat here when you are or will be here.

I grew up in Texas If it has black seeds in it, we pick them out of the watermelon before eating (or demurely spit it into a napkin). But the ones that have white proto-seeds get eaten.
From Collingwood, Canada ( 125 miles North of Toronto ) We do not eat watermelon seeds!!! The new CAT looks amazing and loving the trip so far. Love to you all from Canada.
From Okinawa, Japan. Yes, we were told a watermelon plant would grow in us, so we spit them out. We ate in the yard so we could see who could spit them out the furthest.
Still love you guys!! I could actually tell you a couple nightmares stories if we had time. One was waiting to Transit through the Suez canal! That was the worst. I'm so glad it was them and actually made you feel safer!
We, here in the south, eat the seeds. They pass right thru your digestive system within a day. 100% of the watermelon is usable. They are a source of minerals, protein, and essential fatty acids. Spitting seeds, unless you're in a contest, is frowned upon. 🍉 Thanks for sharing.
Another awesome video, love it! I so love watching life on the water; the beauty, the challenges. What a great escape. Love this channel, thank you so much for the work you do. I'm so grateful you share it. Yes, of course, you spit out the water melon seeds. Don't eat that, that's yuk! Zero nutrition there. You grow more water melon with those!
I grew up in south Georgia and no we didn't sallow many watermelon seeds. We generally expected them to grow more watermelons. When I went to Cebu, I stayed at the Waterfront Airport Hotel. It was cheap but decent and within walking distance to the airport.
Grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was fed the same tale of the watermelon seeds. You both seem so calm and cool under pressure. I can only imagine how unsettling that must have been. I recall when you were approached after your Pacific crossing by fishermen, and you gave them cookies to go away. Nerves of steel.
What better boat to be on when needing to add another day to get to your destination! Love the boat. What great videos to look forward to every Sunday. Since I will be turning 70 later this year, it's little too late for me to sail around the world. So I will live vicariously thru your videos. I spit the seeds out, from Pennsylvania. And making my lunch just like your breakfast, potatoes, onions! See you next week!
Pretty focused I guess, was fun learning and watching the scenery. Happy you found the restaurant. Hope you-all get some sleep, good luck with the engine. We don't eat the seeds, Minnesota.
Hi Jason and Nikki! You can buy melon seeds in the Philippines and in Asian markets in the States. Watermelon seeds are collected, soaked in Anise water, sun dried, then packaged for sale. It's an art and a fun delicious pastime to crack that thin watermelon seed for the prize inside! I'm from Louisiana and I prefer to eat ice cold watermelon with a spoon. (With a flick of stevia and a little umbrella on Sundays!) I try to navigate away from the seeds but I end up missing some and eating some. You know seeds are nutritional and nature Little miracles. They have all the nutrition, energy, and strength to leave the melon, lay out in the sun until they get buried and then open up to feed and support a new generation! Eat them and roar! And be aware of the little miracles that they are!
Perhaps using the repair time to install bright perimeter lights that you can turn on when being approached on low light conditions + security cameras so you can see what is going on outside, so next time something like that happens, you are able to turn on those perimeter lights and take a look at what exactly is going on outside.
Growing up in Texas, we were told that watermelon vines would grow out of our ears if we ate the seeds. Of course, we always had spitting contests for distance or at each other. I had a cold watermelon in the fridge, so I just had a piece. Now the watermelons are ‘seedless’. The seeds are small and not developed fully. Hardly ever see seeded watermelons at the store anymore. And must have a dash of salt on the slice.
I am learning soooooo much about stuff in sailing in Philippine waters. This episode is a keeper. Aaaaaaand the beat goes on. See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨
4:30 pm EST / Hi from Pennsylvania USA! I have to say I have absolutely loved watching your channel…. I have never commented yet, but figured it was about time I did! 😂 The one guy who said you guys are “eminently nice” about the whole situation with the Coast Guard wanting to board?… I totally agree you were SOOOOO nice! But then again, I can totally understand why! Your videos are beautifully done, the under the sea scenes are fabulous. Your episodes are also educational! I have enjoyed them very much. One last comment before I go - I’ll bet you guys are really gonna miss Josh when he’s gone! 🙁 (P.S. I am not a sailor. I am a 70 yr old grandma who loves the water and everything about sailing! In my next life, oh boy, that’s where I will be - on a ship somewhere in the vast beautiful ocean living “The Best Life Ever!” 😉 )
I can relate because we had a similar incident 30 years ago between Bimini and Miami when on a dive trip and the AC went out from bad fuel and we were all on deck. A US Coast Guard cutter came up beside us in the middle of the night totally in the dark and shined a spotlight on us. Yes, it was extremely nerve wracking. We probably would have appreciated it after the engine went out too a few hours later.
Enjoying our Sunday morning tradition of watching you, but while we are camping! Grew up spitting out watermelon seeds (Vancouver, Canada). But my grandma also taught me to put salt on watermelon!
Watermelons: Born and raised in Paraguay. As kids we were told that swallowed seed would sprout plants from our belly buttons (though not by my parents). Though the real reason was a fear of constipation, especially in small children. Now I do a mix of both swallowing and spitting. Un-ripe and very small seeds usually get swallowed, though I will more often than not spit the big and ripe seed because they can be very bitter, thus ruining the enjoyment of a sweet watermelon. And we often had seed spitting (or “shooting”) contests.
Such a fabulous episode! Scary at first but so glad that you were able to find some peace. Good luck with the boat servicing. I’m sure that you will take us on some more great adventures even without a boat.

Texan here (Fort Worth). If the seeds haven’t turned hard and black we eat them. Otherwise we spit them out. And yes, as kids, we were told the baby thing. ***remember, try a tiny bit of salt on it from time to time****
Balsamic vinegar is good too
@@krautnation or a slice a Monterey Jack cheese. Cheese is salty….
I think you have the best Cat of all the channels out there! She appears so solid and safe and looks so sleek and stylish, inside and out.
Another cool vlog, thanks guys ❤❤❤❤
Of course you spit them out! 😂 Born and raised in Oklahoma. My Momma would NEVER lie to me. 😂😂😂😂
😉👍😎
Another week of sailing, another week filled with adventures!! Wonderful editing, joy to watch!!! Y'all stay safe!!
So Jesus morfed from a demi-god to a "bird", finally a extreme right g.o.p. orange jesus😮
Spit them water mellon seeds out out! From Massachusettes 😮🎉
Travel -- its always something huh ? That down time in SAIL mode was pretty calming. . Nice !
Jasons lookin piratey lately 😅
Much better than “skinny jeaned” 😆
Yup I like his wild look, seems more salty more settled as a sailor.
Love your boat. Love your sailing performance. Double love your amazing tender. Last but not least, love your happy vibes!
I think you guys are being eminently nice. That whole approach was done for an effect and intimidation.
I'd say, more for the element of surprise, and It makes a lot of sense.
@@fredbugden3511 lol! 🍻
@@_Daio_ Exactly right.
Awesome video guys.. a little drama w/ late night boarding, some terrific light wind sailing, and a few shots of Nikki’s great cooking sprinkled in. Lovely.
NYC. We don’t swallow. 😂 Love y’all. Nikki’s a dream in the galley as always 27:28
😎😎
Hi guys, Nikki, when I first started seeing you on the videos I never thought of person be on the yacht/catamaran I thought you’d be the lady that would be driving around in a BMW and etc etc but is so wonderful to see how you are on the sea and you both are growing together. Doing what you love sailing and exploring. Keep up the good work. Cliff from Australia.
Someone needs to invent a proximity alert spotlight that will turn a spotlight on approaching vessels at night and an alarm of some kind. That would have been terrifying-
Oh, and from Mississippi- I spit out the seeds but was never told not to, or that I would have “baby melons.” 😂😂😂😂😂
Great idea. A light with a motion detector up on the mast should be easy to rig up. 😊
This is exactly what I was going to say. If I had a boat like this, I'd have a way to light the entire area around my boat up!
@@susanhighfield8284 There are LED options that would be quite easy to install that would give plenty of light and you can direct the light that it is useful.
Lighting up your boat blinds you from seeing what is out there in the dark but lights you up - not ideal
@@Kathikas1 You are imagining that the lights pace inward, if you place a light high up the mast that face outwards they will illuminate the water and space around the boat not the boat itself. In this case you will reduce the visibility of the approaching vessel. Headlights on a car don't blind the driver.
Great editing love the ending set up for the next one well done! Thanks for the ride again ! :)
I spit the watermelon seeds out. We use to have contest who could spit the seeds the furthest. Orange County CA.
Wow, you're passing by Dumaguete. Do not know if this comment is late and you're already at your Cebu destination but Dumaguete is my hometown and would be very happy to see even just a glimpse of your boat here when you are or will be here.
This whole trip seams crazy to me. You seem defenseless to even the most ill prepared pirates. I would have some arms on my boat for defense!!! Your in a place where there are more Pirates than Coast Guard. I don't know why Sailing your own boat through Pirate infested waters is so Glamorized. Smooth sailing and good fortune always be yours. Blessings and Prayers! You need them. 🏴☠🏴☠🏴☠
Having weapons aboard puts a sailor at great risk of arrest and incarceration in many countries. Not advised
@@charleshuguley9323 Thank You 🙏 I felt that would be the answer but I find that the deck is stacked against the private boat owner. I will stay a “Land Lubber for now”.
Just stay in the med, no pirates there
Pirate infested? More pirates than coast guard???? Where are they then, did they encounter one so far?
I grew up in Texas If it has black seeds in it, we pick them out of the watermelon before eating (or demurely spit it into a napkin). But the ones that have white proto-seeds get eaten.
Lol we do not eat the seeds of watermelon...Canadian here:)
Unless dried.
@@geekazoid47 what are you talking about....don't troll my comment lol
From Collingwood, Canada ( 125 miles North of Toronto )
We do not eat watermelon seeds!!!
The new CAT looks amazing and loving the trip so far.
Love to you all from Canada.
Yeah, I’m good with this whole lifestyle. Landlubbah for ebba.
Thanks for another wonderful Sunday! If there aren't too many seeds, I'll just chew them up, but if there are a lot, then I spit them out.
A coastguard vessel not having a radio is probably the most hilarious part of all of this, the people you would definitely expect to have one.
From Okinawa, Japan. Yes, we were told a watermelon plant would grow in us, so we spit them out. We ate in the yard so we could see who could spit them out the furthest.
I love watching you cook, the combinations you use and how to do it. Gives me ideas!
Still love you guys!! I could actually tell you a couple nightmares stories if we had time. One was waiting to Transit through the Suez canal! That was the worst. I'm so glad it was them and actually made you feel safer!
We spit our seeds out. Kansas City, Mo. That last stir fry meal looked good!
Best episode since you got your new boat. Sail on!
We, here in the south, eat the seeds. They pass right thru your digestive system within a day. 100% of the watermelon is usable. They are a source of minerals, protein, and essential fatty acids. Spitting seeds, unless you're in a contest, is frowned upon. 🍉
Thanks for sharing.
From south Louisiana, a non sailor, definitely spit the seeds. Love your channel.
Check out Bill Hatfield if you feel you're too old to sail around the world.
@@jrbarber7 I never sailed a day in my life, and I doubt my significant other would want to do that.
I always feel I'm on this adventure with you. GREAT FUN thanks
I really enjoy watching this content. You guys are terrific. Just be you...❤
I am from and still live on the west coast of Florida and I swallow the seeds. Because I am use to eating other seeds. Happy Sailing ⛵
