When hand lining and a fish is in the hook, don't neatly coil the line, pull it in hand over hand as quickly as you can. As soon as the fish is close yank the line hard & either net a big one or flip the sucker into the boat if small enough (like the one you hooked). Blue skies & following winds, mates.

It's such a huge mental shift. I felt lost. When you describe a person, these days, they say "(age)-yr-old (name), a (occupation) from (hometown), ... Well, the age you can't control, the name is what you got given, and the hometown is where you're at. The (occupation) is the only area where you can make a difference - and that is about to cease, disappear, evaporate. That's your identity. It's something you need to watch closely, and MANAGE. If you don't control it, it will bury you.

    • @davidvasta
      @davidvasta 2 місяці тому

Here is the deal. They started the channel and knew that the internet likes to share honest and harsh opinions. If you or they thought it was going to be a walk in the park and no one was going to criticize them then you both were delusional. These people posting are not "toxic", but many of them are just telling the truth.
These two purchase an "alpha" version of a boat and then get on YT and complain endlessly about how terrible it is to keep having to go back and get it fixed and how terrible is it to navigate the area...and while they have all these "terrible" things going on they seem to have plenty of content about it. So without all the problems they would just be doing videos of things going right? Hardly, they have always been about the "drama" and they picked a boat builder and a boat that is going to be filled with "drama". Frankly they were better off with a US built boat and sailing in an area they know vs. going to Asia where they don't get it.

Interesting observation: There is another sailing channel that i unsubscribed to a month or two ago, because I found their way to report their problems too doom and gloom.
Now, this episode of yours is also slightly doomy and gloomy. And yet, hearing it from you, watching you struggle is much easier to get. And just as I write this, wondering why that is, I realize: Even when you are in dire straits and high emotions, you are able to not take yourselves too seriously. You keep your head clear. Much closer to how I like to deal with difficulties.
Thanks for this! And it is good to know you're through this by now!

After watching hundreds of fish get away right at the back of the boat, this arm chair sailor believes that as the angle of the fishing line increases the likelihood of the fish coming off of the hook increases. As a result I propose a special tube shaped net that quickly attaches to the fishing line that also trails it's own separate rope. When the fish is 50ft to 100ft from the back of the boat then the net is sent down the fishing line where it's guided over the fish by the fishing line. The fish has no way of avoiding it. Then the separate rope is pulled and that closes the back of the net while also turning the fish backward in the current. You use the sturdy rope/net to bring the fish the rest of the way in. And congratulations, you stop losing fish at the back of the boat.

I love that you show everything that you can. Not just the fun stuff but the fact that sailing can be exhausting. Having to take different watches on passage and always worried about leaving the boat when on anchor. Probably the only time you feel really secure is on a good mooring ball with no other boats in close proximity or in a marina. Two things you seldom do. I think you two are great examples of how keeping a positive attitude will pull you through most anything. You both looked so tired trying to find an anchorage. No matter what goes on you stay positive Nikki. Jason always manages a smile even dead tired and still knowing he’s got at least four hours of editing to do before getting any sleep. This episode brought back so many memories. My dad and I would frequently deliver boats up and down the West coast of the US. Some trips were nothing but routine sailing and following a schedule that would get quite boring. It was the times that we would sail through storms and searching for good anchorage’s was always difficult because of the volume of boats in every one of them.. often we would just split up the watches and keep moving. At least the winds were typically predictable. We always had boats with the good old “iron sails”. As I said the memories flooded back and even though they were trying times they always taught me so many good lessons in practical sailing.

Out of curiosity (ha!), why don't you use a landing net? I grew up fishing on the great lakes, and we never dreamed of lifting a fish out of the water by the hook, of course we'd lose it! Shouting "I got one!" triggered a scramble to locate the net, get its own safety strap around one's wrist, and go help whoever was bringin' one in.

Amazing video! I always enjoy watching your videos, they tell a great story, bring the viewers on a world tour and show some of the real hard part of sailing. Thanks for allowing us to follow you on your journey!

Sailing to the clock is always a bummer. Most leave it too late to begin. Multiply the time by two is my advice. Have yourself a less stressy cruse.

Nothing in my life is “routine”! 😊Anyone who would try and follow me, would give up pretty quickly!🤪I don’t even know what each day will bring! And I love it that way!!!Probably why I can get bored easily if I don’t do anything different!! Loving the boat!! Life is never a straight path forward!! Oh, and remember, we have been getting slammed by CME’s from the sun, which has the Schumann Resonance up and down! Getting squeezed and then releasing! It’s a lot lately. A lot of migraines reported by people!! Take care!!! 🌴😊

Love waking up on Sundays and your videos are a part of our mornings.
With this video I am going to put something out there... the elephant in the room.... I REALLY hope HH appreciates all you had to go through to get to their new factory. When they chose the location for their new factory did they think through what Every catamaran is going to have to sail through to get to that location??? The ease of accessibility for their boats should be high on the list for any company. The fact you had to sail close to known areas for piracy, sail against the tide AND the current, AND all the fishing nets. Just say'n HH..... 🧐
Maybe this was also a good learning curve of what to take into consideration when your planning where to go. Doing research with what info. is out there to know what to expect. (if the info. exist) And in the end it is all part of the experience. Fair winds and following seas Wynns! Awesome job. 🐬🏝💙

It's obvious to anyone that HH should have their factory on a huge barge, or maybe a surplus aircraft carrier, and come to wherever one of their boats needs service. Certainly they owe that to their customers, who should not be inconvenienced by having to sail their boats "against the tide AND the current", and don't forget avoiding "all the fishing nets". It is outrageous that paying customers would be abused like this.

What a journey......... Long days to get to the southern point. Then the challenge of finding an anchorage. All the while running low on food.... A hundred fishing boats with nets and you couldn't catch anything. :( Keep going. A beautiful coastline. Thanks for bringing us along.

So I was admiring Jason's green gloves and thinking " wow they have the best tools for everything. I wonder if there's any tools they don't have and wish they did.". And then you said you need better fishing gear. 😅 Love your content, thank you for sharing...

Get a Rod and Real and 15 to 20 LB test line with a wire leader. You also need a gaff to pull the fish aboart or a large net but a gaff is best your hand line is worthless.

Try the Zok for your migraine. I have chronic migraine for over 10 years now and it is surprising how much it helps sometimes... doesn't always kick it, but it definitely helps! So sorry to hear you have them. They are horrible.

Quite an “adventure” documented in this episode! I can’t even imagine the frustration you all experienced. I’m hoping things are looking up for you in the next episode. Peace and tranquility to you.
