CURIOSITY 2 will be the first of her kind and is still being built. So, in the meantime, we’re going to be living aboard a few different performance sailboats to expand our sailing experience and soak up some knowledge from our fellow world cruising sailors.
And we are starting at the top because we have moved aboard the big sister of our future boat. It’s an HH55 named Ticket To Ride and it is the most impressive, comfortable, performance catamaran we have ever sailed!
The owners, Frank and Mary Grace, have racked up nearly 30,000 nautical miles in less than 4 years on this vessel. They have had this boat flying a hull at 28 knots of speed (because it’s that high caliber of a race boat) but they are cruisers at heart, not racers. They are fellow Texans, have been following our journey, and reached out the moment they heard we were looking to up our sailing game. It was a dreamy invitation we instantly said YES to. And here we are!

Can you all explain the role of daggerboards on a boat in a simple manner? When do you leave them down or raise them? Or leave them part way up? I'm just a land lubber always looking to learn more.

@@JOHNDANIEL1 They talked about this in one of the videos on the process, why they picked the HH and why that size. The smaller size certainly is cheaper than the bigger boats when docked and many fees are determined by boat length. The rest I'll leave up to you and recommend you watch that video of theirs.

Leland, I’m 68 and I do the same. When I lived on my 40 ft sailboat the technology was not even close to today.l How I wish I had the money and the health to live on such a beautiful Cat but I had my time of wonderful adventures in my life. I was a tomboy all my life skiing, sailing, scuba and on and on. At 57 I was diagnosed with lung cancer and life changed drastically. Thank you Frank and Mary Grace for hosting this remarkable couple and sharing a peek at your lovely life.

Ah yes, Fakarava...one of my favorite named places. Not just because it sounds like a certain word in English (😜), but also in Tahitian, it means "making things superb". Which is fitting for your vlogs as that's exactly what you do! While the atoll is part of French Polynesia, the first European to discover Fakarava was actually a Baltic German-ethnic RUSSIAN, Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen, who named it Wittgenstein. And before ruling the Kingdom of Tahiti, the Pōmare dynasty originally came from there.
What an impressive catamaran! And chillin' on a bean bag as you enjoy the views of the water is livin' the life! Getting on board to get a taste of what's to come was the perfect opportunity!

Glad you’re back! Not being a sailor, you lost me with all of the technical stuff. However, that was very temporary, as I loved the rest of the tour! This is just an example of how even though I thought you would lose me as a viewer when you switched to boating, I just love you two and I’m invested and interested in what you’re up to and how you are getting to your next adventure. It would be so boring if everyone toured around in a 19ft Airstream like me. 😂 So, you got me hooked to the two of you, not the vessel. That being said, that boat (and your future one) is GORGEOUS!!! Thanks for being you.

    33 years sailing monohulls.
We're late to the cats, our 1st was a Leopard 38.
Then chartered a Lagoon 410 which made us rethink "size matters".
Multiple Annapolis boat shows pointed us towards HH.
Their designs and attention to detail is on another level, your tour of the 55 confirms that.
We're chartering an HH with another couple in January out of Puerto Rico.
Our 2¢, always go with functional storage vs seating; practical > comfort.
    Safe travels . . .

I was just thinking as you showed all of the storage space. My understanding is cats are very sensitive to overloading. Spend thousands of dollars on carbon fiber components to reduce weight and then store lots of extra weight in all of the storage area. In a cruising boat storage is important but in a performance boat total displacement is also important, a balancing act. I am so looking forward to seeing your new cat and hopefully some videos of the build. I love what Ruby Rose is doing now.

I'm looking forward to the build updates on your 44 and wouldn't change anything except your opting for the rear seating area versus a working area.
Since you asked for comments and suggestions on your build, I hope you saw the function and utility of the backside utility of the 55, with the outside sink, working surface (fish cleaning and many other uses) and scuba/dive/compressor/fishing gear/etc. storage.
I would recommend you change your decision of having a rear seating area and opt for what would be a big improvement on the utility of that space and your day to day sailing activities.
As an aside, I thought the interior finish and woodwork on the 55 is stunning, and hope you got some good ideas on how you will be finishing out your interior.
With all is said and done, the excitement you both exude when you provide your updates is a joy to watch.

Unfortunately it isn't the only time a dinghy has "kissed" TTR. :) That wasn't our luckiest anchorage as we also saw a man on the golf course drop from a heart attack! Frank hopped in the dinghy and sped over to help (he has training). Fortunately an ambulance arrived quickly (yes, golfers, they drove across the fairways) and the gentleman was saved!! A couple notes of the Beatles song that the boat is named after would have been nice. I assume they are Beatles fans since a previous boat was named Let It Be. Beauty of a boat!

I was so glad to see you Nikki & Jason! Enjoyed meeting Frank & Mary. Touring the HH55 was amazing to see the space you had to work/live with, & the amount of storage. I really liked the kitchen. Beautiful. Like how he did the closet doors, & protect the wood on the counter. Enjoyed snorkeling with you Seeing the fish & coral. Very beautiful area you are in. This
