Whenever I opened an rp map that’s meant to be populated, I always think it’s really early in the morning and i’m the first person to show up in town, especially when south side came out. And famous rp maps like evocity, amsterville, downtown and paralake always felt loaded with nostalgia, especially now walking through them on singleplayer.
I really love that "aesthetically right, functionally wrong" take on the feeling hl2 asset spaces evoke - for me, I always imagined spaces like these are what an alien intelligence would produce trying to be accommodating to an otherwise trapped 21st century person, factually understanding what human structure looks like but failing to capture the more, like, esoteric, friendly, and well, human aspects of stuff made by humans. Something meant to offer a feeling of security that just misses the mark because what made it can't quite understand what it feels like, so it just feels uncanny. Sometimes peaceful, sometimes entrapping, but always uncanny.

Yeah I got sick of watching videos in my dark apartment and getting flashbanged, so I'm gonna be the change I want to see. Kind of our fault for living like vampires though. Thanks for commenting.
One of my favorite DarkRP memories was playing as a drug dealer. I was super friendly to the cops though, and didn’t cause trouble. One day one of the cops was doing routine check ups in the houses and asked to come inside. He opened the closet where I kept my supply and asked. “Now what’s all this then?” I just said. “Funny you should ask that! So the story is…” I then locked the closet with the cop inside, blocked it with my couch, broke a window open, and jumped out as he was getting out of the closet. Only to see me fall from my second story apartment. I faked my death, changed my job, and became a gun store part time employee. Good times.
I use to play on this server named EQF which was a non-darkRP like RP server, no grind, no functional way to kill another player, just solid RP. They used a few different maps, but for most of my time there it used EVO city (And another named Rockford v2), and honest to fuck... I think evo city is effectively a second home to me. I had well over 2500 hours in that server.

In one dark RP server: A *dude* with a small PM of an anime character tried getting my attention, and I made the mistake of letting my guard down and giving them my attention. Apparently the guy had an accomplice (also with the same anime girl PM) who snuck up behind me and knocked me out while I was distracted. By time I regained consciousness, I find out that I’ve apparently been dumped into the sewers… Long story short: I got knocked out and abducted by anime girls, and I got dumped into the sewers before regaining consciousness. The whole section at 29:45 was made infinitely more surreal by the fact that I recognized the song used, but couldn't put my finger on it. When I did eventually realize what it was, it was made even more so because I would never have expected a video about weird GMod maps to use a song from Genshin Impact of all things.
I'm really glad that the algorithm just slapped me with your channel. As many others have said, the laid back vibes from the editing and narration are definitely something that resonates with me. That Evo City map was my most favorite RP map ever, and even just messing around on the map in single player and exploring everything and imagining all of the RP potential was really fun for me. It's really nice to see it again, it brings back so many memories.
I like the videos because I can see the creative thought put into them, I like that you think and experience the maps the way you want to and share it with us in the most simple way possible.
So glad I found your channel again, I watched your first GMOD video when it was still low on views and loved it, I shared it with some friends but it got buried under weeks of shitposts in our DMs and countless hours of sleep videos in my watch history. Now that I'm here again, I can make sure to subscribe and not miss any more videos 😎
I once played on this HL2RP server named Combine Control. Basically, you'd be doing slice-of-life roleplay from the perspective of everyone in HL2 that isn't the main characters: the citizens, the Combine forces, the rebels, etc... So I'm sitting in my dingy ass apartment cooking bleach-based drugs to later try and sell to the citizens, so I can earn a couple bucks. I leave the building, three jugs of the stuff in my inventory, and all of a sudden I get approached by a player in a Civil Protection uniform, who proceeds to take me aside for questioning. I then panicked and _consumed everything I had on me_ to make sure they find nothing to arrest me for. Well, turns out they were a rebel in disguise looking for potential recruits, and I freaked out for nothing. The recruiter later left me in that street corner, while I was suffering a major stunlock from the entire periodic table burning through my system. It lasted for like two or three minutes.
That livability thought is one of my main obsessions with liminal spaces. I hunt for liminal spaces in vr and one of my main things is looking for the main necessities for survival food, water, and and anything that could be used as a bathroom. the potential to survive and thrive in a space made by something that sees human structure but doesn't place said structures in a human manner is a utterly satisfying thought for me.
I haven't played gmod in a while, but I used to play it almost every week with my friends. I don't really have any friends that play it anymore so its mostly collecting dust in my steam library. But every once in a while I like to boot it back up and just explore old maps while listening to music. Its an interesting experience, it feels like a whole different game if you just treat it like a walking sim lol
16:18 - I forget what map it is, but there's another map with this EXACT same room with the skeletons, and it's another dream/liminal map. If I remember correctly, in that map, you have to find the room by going through a maze. Overall great video, loving it so far, can't wait to see more!
Your voice is really soothing. It makes me think of what has happened in these maps. What you say influenced some of the things I thought but I mostly had my own thoughts

RP maps tend to be very very large, relatively detailed, and on a room to room basis quite empty. This is to allow as much possibility for player and server customization as possible and give people tons of space to do whatever.
for evocity, people called the massive high rise with the resident evil basement the nexus. it was commonly used as the police/government building, at the top was where the mayor sat. It was so fun sitting at the top of that tower of doom as mayor.
I genuinely had a moment where i completely zoned out and just listened to you talk for like 5 minutes, I don't know why but your voice mixed with this style of content is honestly perfect ngl. keep up the good work M8 :D

Really glad you made another one of these video i was hoping you would
I got this video recommended to me after watching a video by The Librarian. You guys actually have somewhat similar chill vibes.
Yeah I get compared to them sometimes. Probably because of the Gmod angle. Thanks for watching.
i allways love falling asleep to theese videos
That Evo City map was my most favorite RP map ever, and even just messing around on the map in single player and exploring everything and imagining all of the RP potential was really fun for me.
It's really nice to see it again, it brings back so many memories.
I like the videos because I can see the creative thought put into them, I like that you think and experience the maps the way you want to and share it with us in the most simple way possible.
These videos are so... comfy.
This is a really weirdly comforting video ty for uploading!!
This channel is a gem, gotta binge watch all the videos now
i love this so much, this guy makes gmod so real and down to earth
So glad I found your channel again, I watched your first GMOD video when it was still low on views and loved it, I shared it with some friends but it got buried under weeks of shitposts in our DMs and countless hours of sleep videos in my watch history. Now that I'm here again, I can make sure to subscribe and not miss any more videos 😎
Welcome back, good to have you :)
servers with pac3 were one of my favorite servers to join, just because of some of the creativity that people had using that mod.
I love pac3. I used it to add the chef's hat in the evocity sequence.
Holy shit another one! I will keep watching these as long as you keep making them.
Man i love your content. This sort of peaceful low energy stuff is far too rare in today's internet.
these videos are so good
That livability thought is one of my main obsessions with liminal spaces.
50 thousand people used to live here, now it's a ghost town
Probably from the same guy. Iirc they make a habit out of making their dreams into maps.
I love this kind of video so much! Very much hoping to see more, your narration and commentary are fantastic.
Your voice is really soothing. It makes me think of what has happened in these maps. What you say influenced some of the things I thought but I mostly had my own thoughts
Great vibes man, great vibes. You've definitely found a win-win-win formula here. ^^ Looking forward to more.
Bro, glad you got some traction. I was here when you put your first video on Accursed Farms subreddit. Keep it up.
I really enjoyed the more cinematic sequences in this one! That shot of you sitting on a bench at 30:15 really stuck with me for some reason, it has some great wallpaper potential.
Thank you! I was worried they'd come off as corny, but I'm glad they have a positive reception.
thank you so much for checking out my map! your commentary was wonderful
Take this as a compliment, your voice is perfect to fall asleep too.
Please do more, this is literally the best content i've seen for months 💀
I would exclusively play gmod in single player or with at most one other person. Making deathmatch/survival maps was my bread and butter
I ADORE your channel!! I'm soooo happy I found it! I LOVE liminal spaces, but your content is so perfect because it just goes through these maps with so much thought behind it! Just subscribed and I'm really happy I did. Thank you so much and much love from Latin America!
I cannot believe you have under 10k subs, your videos are SO good. I can't wait to see what maps you explore next. Definitely saving these for when I'm battling insomnia, too.
I really love the cinematography when you do third-person camera shots, especially the hypothetical sequence about the secret lab.
I'm glad people like them, I was worried they'd come off as corny.
@@loganfromearth Not at all! They're genuinely super well shot, I was thoroughly impressed with them and every single one enhanced the already-excellent narration it was paired with.
Absolutely love these videos. Hope to see some more content in this vein from you, whether it's sticking to lonely Gmod maps or branching out to other games or other vibes!!
1:10 "who doesn't like throwing ragdolls around" is so relatable
RP maps tend to be very very large, relatively detailed, and on a room to room basis quite empty. This is to allow as much possibility for player and server customization as possible and give people tons of space to do whatever.
@4:20 Yes, these servers existed in a game mode called PERP. Good fun when the various factions were balanced correctly.
I need to go through this with a tooled up squad of friends.
Making my mark so people know I’m an OG when you blow up
he already did (kinda)
for evocity, people called the massive high rise with the resident evil basement the nexus. it was commonly used as the police/government building, at the top was where the mayor sat. It was so fun sitting at the top of that tower of doom as mayor.
This might be my new favorite channel keep the good work up man I’m loving it
I genuinely had a moment where i completely zoned out and just listened to you talk for like 5 minutes, I don't know why but your voice mixed with this style of content is honestly perfect ngl. keep up the good work M8 :D
Also if you don't mind me asking what song did you start playing at 29:45 cause it's a very relaxing piece of music.
@@aarongamingmania7766 Thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The song at the time mark mentioned is "Stories Untold" from the Genshin Impact OST.
I absolutely love these vids dude, I hope you make more
Hell yeah I'm glad asf to see your channel blow up, great video again!
I agree with the others. I love the “can you survive/live on this map?” It takes weird places and makes them feel cozy in a way. Like I imagine someone rearranging furniture, collecting the water & food, making a daily routine, etc. reminds me of the youtuber Pretzel who has a series about surviving in video games like Mario 64 & ocarina of time.
The pyramid made me go "ah its control!"
This channel is so nice, i can't wait to see what you have planned for the future. :3
Thank you so much for these lovely videos.
Phenomenal video. Your commentary is both insightful and entertaining and gives a lot of interesting perspective on the maps as well as inviting further thought on them. As always, it's refreshing to see such a casual yet thoughtful exploration of Garry's Mod content, and to have such a long duration is an absolute treat. This was a pleasure to watch.
Great voice, perfect amount of editing, good jokes -- I hope you go far!
