Of course, the first video I actually get my audio settings correct, it waited until when I was recording my narration to rain. I mitigated it the best I could in the editing process, but it still comes through at points. Bonus game: Can YOU guess at which point in the video it started raining outside?
I used to take walks almost every night. There's something just so peaceful about walking at night, alone with just your thoughts and the cool breeze. I understand it's dangerous in many places but I think everyone should try it once.
I appreciate you not showing the flashing room as I do watch these videos to fall asleep, but when I do I always come back in the morning and rewatch to get the full experience!
Thanks for playing on biglake! I like how you mentioned that there were explicitly no mysterious things to be found when you were so close to that mattress... anyway, I really enjoyed this! Your content is such a nice breath of fresh air compared to all the videos nowadays catering to low attention spans, and the little cinematic third-person shots you add are always nice. I can watch this stuff for days.
dude??? what happened with the wet clicking sound in the woods. what did that mean, it was such a perfect description of something terrible i need to know more
I tried looking it up and got info on cryoseisms, which is apparently something to do with sinkholes caused by the freezing and thawing of underground water
Nightmare on Elm Street's location was based around Potsdam, NY's Elm Street, so far as I can tell. So if you hear a wet clicking in the woods near Potsdam NY...? I don't know WHAT it is, but I do know it's old Freddy come calling again.
I got nothing either. No cryptids, no crimes or famous hauntings there. I agree with the guy above that it's probably just a reference to Nightmare on Elm Street.
I’ve been struggling with how to put it into words but this is exactly the kind of content that I love and that I’ve really been wanting to make. As silly (and kind of stupid) as asking for work through youtube comments is, I still hold the quote “a shot not fired, is a shot missed” close to my heart. so fuck it, we ball. I consider myself a gmod vet, I’ve been playing it since 2012, maybe 2013 and have clocked over 10.000 hours in source engine stuff, 3,4k of them being in gmod. the rest being spread out over other things, from hammer and sfm to sourcemods like smod redux. I’ve a whole myriad of technical knowledge related to the engine but also making stuff in and around it, only thing i’ve been unable to do is write (lua) script mods since i’ve only been learning how to code for the last year. Might not be particularly impressive and in the eyes of some maybe even sad, but I’d love to help in any way if I can. This game has been a large chunk of my life so far and these videos just bring out a lot of emotion in me, memories and ideas (this is the part im struggling to put into words, can you tell?). Things I haven’t felt related to it in a long time, anyway. If you’re interested in at least hearing me out on this, I’d appreciate it. my discord name is “drunkchey” with the old tag being drunkchey#9085. And if you don’t, thats fine, I get it. Personally if I got a comment like this I’d probably just write it off as some enthusiastic kid who doesn’t really know much and go on with my day. But if there is one thing I can say, it’s to keep going with these, at least for a little while longer. I’d really appreciate it. Best of luck to you and a good day or night depending on when (and probably also if) you read this. (that is, if I don’t end up deleting this later out of embarrassment later. I don’t like seeing a past me getting emotional on the internet.)
Some of the concerns surrounding Y2K were actually true, but were understood to be potential problems and thus were countered without anyone in the general public really having an idea that it wouod ever have been an issue. The computers were never going to launch all the nukes, but worries about bank interest being counted in negatives when calendars on computers rolled over to 00 among other computer calculation concerns were actually legitimate based on how computers were designed at the time-- but smart people did smart things and it was completely averted. What I find interesting is how in retrospect it was this huge conspiracy leading up to the year 2000, then when it hit and nothing happened everyone assumed it was all fake-- All the while, it was quietly being taken care of, which I think is pretty cool.
That’s what happened with Covid too. People are retrospectively saying see the virus wants that bad but totally forget that we took measures that prevented the potential bad outcomes. This applies to all things. Once we actually crack down on climate change and maybe even stop it people will also say “see climate change wasn’t that bad. Nothing really happened.”
It's always so exciting when one of these videos gets posted. These are a joy to watch, presenting Gmod maps as the art they are rather than just a playing space and with commentary that's very well-done, both engaging, insightful, and with good humor. Excellent as always!
kinda sucks that this didn’t get the same traction as the other two, it definitely deserves some. love your gmod stuff, man, brings me back. and the commentary’s good
Love your gmod videos. I makes me feel like I’m in the maps, just having a conversation about life with someone in the middle of an empty place. Peaceful and a little sad, like it’s the last place we might ever be, and all that’s left to do is talk about memories of a life that’s gone forever. Like a limbo between the end of life and the beginning of something new…
small towns can sometimes have ever-present traffic noise even in the middle of the night, if they're next to a major road. Tons of passing cars, none local. The place where I lived as a kid was a tiny little neighborhood next to a two lane highway, the road everyone trying to avoid the main tolls crossing the state would take, and the sound of the traffic was just far enough away that it blurred into essentially white noise equivalent to ocean waves. It was genuinely a great sleep aid.
I would love to see you do more nighttime cozy maps it’s so calming. I got recommended this and instantly got hooked on your calm voice, stories and cinematic story telling of the map. Look forward to have more of these to play in the background.
Another great video! I really love your dedication to cozy vibes, a lot of the Gmod map videos I've seen have jumpscares or a creepy ambiance, so it's nice to have a channel I know I can relax with.
I'm going to be talking about some stuff in response to a few select things in this video, because I felt like it, and because it feels appropriate. I remember for the short time I was in college that I walked around at night, alone, at 4AM specifically. I didn't really think much about danger, as that doesn't really cross my mind, but it was a surreal experience and I felt extremely free that night. Sometimes I wonder what the world would look like years after humans suddenly disappeared, hopefully someone makes something like that at some point as this ALMOST scratches that itch. On one map you said the map creator must have recompiled the map several times to get the atmosphere just right, well fortunately recompiling the map several times is pretty much a thing of the past for modern source maps, since there are tools like Hammer++ that allow for real-time particle and lighting previews, imagine if we didn't have that - then good-looking maps like these would take months to make. As a mapper myself, there's probably a few things I can answer about the map-making process. I like how you talk about maps as if they're completely isolated and you could never leave, judging survivability purely based on that. It would be an interesting scenario as a human being to walk up to the edge of the map and get clocked in the face by the invisible barrier surrounding it. I wonder if one day people will truly take advantage of infmap technology to create a custom map with details and all that stretches for dozens of kilometers. Exploring that would be a chore but be extremely good for roleplay. That y2k city map would absolutely perfect for roleplay, but unfortunately most roleplay servers are really inaccessible. I wish I didn't have to wait several hours to download all the addons to even play a little bit of the server. As a kid I'd inadvertently waste the entire day waiting for the addons to download and it'd be bedtime by the time I got it finished. If only there were vanilla DarkRP servers, that would be awesome. That cracked glass material is likely just a custom material, well obviously but you know it probably uses some kind of normal map to offset the reflection by a small amount to add that distortion, normal maps are pretty powerful. I can only assume the "flashing textures" you're talking about is the nodraw material, and the flashing is caused by the previous render not being overdrawn so the next frame's post-processing effects are being dumped on top of the last frame, up until it becomes unbearable, if I'm mistaken then that's just a fun fact I guess. You sleep 8 hours a day? I sleep 12, I don't think 8 hours is a very long time, but I guess for a fully grown adult 6 hours is like the minimum so you could save like 2 hours if you wanna deal with the slight mental side-effects. Lets hope that this video encourages some people to make a new server or populate an existing one containing this map, if you do that roleplay event that'd be fucking cool, I would totally participate, does this channel have a discord server? I enjoyed this video greatly, and I enjoyed leaving my own thoughts here as I watched, like a dump for random thoughts. We didn't get to see very many maps but that last one was certainly a monster to explore, I'm sure. I'm excited to see where the train takes us next.
Oh yeah! I forgot about Hammer++. It seems trivial now with game editors like Unity but seeing the real-time light changes in H++ for the first time after a decade and a half of having to recompile to see lighting changes was mind-blowing. The flashing textures in the easter egg room are custom textures made to look like a glitch, it wasn't straight up Z-fighting. There's also a floating guy in there. Needless to say it was an eyesore, regardless of the fact that it was purposefully done. No discord server, probably just going to keep things in the channel's community tab for the foreseeable future. Thanks for watching and commenting.
My first time taking a late night walk on my own happened at 4am. That was a defining moment for a younger me. Saw animals around, smelt the bread baking at a local bakery. Wonderful time, walked like 2 miles
I'm also a night owl. Usually don't go to bed until 5am on the weekends, I literally can't sleep any earlier, but then I have to walking into at work at 5am on weekdays. My shit is so fucked, I can only manage 1-2 hours a night at best. I wish the world was better able to support night owls.
Night time is best time. Nothing beats the full moon on a partly cloudy evening. Incredible video brother! Also did not expect to see the matrix powerade show up. Flashbacks to junior year in HS.
pop dog is a reference to barking dog studios the creators of the first counter strike I think. Thank you for making these videos, finding your channel is one of the best things that happened to me this week.
Hey i absolutely loved your narration and exploration of these maps. Ive always wanted to design maps but never finished any fully. I really appreciate your love for exploring these maps. Its very relaxing and i hope youre able to make more. Thanks for making these for us ❤
oh you missed the creepiest house in the corner northbury. shocked you found that bunker, i haven't seen it until now and i've played the map a good number of times
I really gotta put your channel on all notifications on since I LOVE these videos, genuinely such a chill experience with you talking and explaining things, and also get to see some cool maps I likely wouldn't have ever tried out myself.
I think the gmod server of RP_nycity would be a great idea, getting 50-100 people on that map would be amazing to experience. It would be a unforgettable experience!
I know a lot of people view Nightlight as a spooky map, but it's strangely calming. I always liked walking around the house with the party inside and decorating the empty stores like an employee closing shop. Same with NYcity.
That bit about the Dollar Tree sign is relatable to me because I live in a town where they haven't fix their "T" yet and thus, their sign reads "Dollar Ree".
Even after watching all of the episodes of this series multiple times and most of the rest of your channel as well, the vibes of your videos are still hard to describe. Other than immaculate, of course. The best I've got is unnervingly calm, thanks to the dark environments and jokes, but calm demeanour you speak about them and make them with. Kudos to you for making the kinds of videos I've always wanted to make, but never got the right motivation to. Hell, you even use a skeleton avatar, at least for Gmod, like I planned to.
such a cozy video. your narration was wonderful. friendly and warm but not like that weird ASMR-type stuff that some people try to do when they make videos like this about cozy fiction. subbed!
Nightlight feels very familiar. I live in Maryland, near DC, so I didnt grow up in a town like this, but the second you get a couple miles from the DC border, everything becomes just like that. A Dollar Tree and a 7/11 on every corner. Odd that the cars have a license plate texture similar to the old Maryland ones, too.
This was so interesting to watch. As a morning person who will always wake to the sunrise I never really have the energy or ability to exist in nightlife. I’ve been able to do it a few times because of friends or just circumstances, but it always recks me for a few days of feeling sluggish, tired, and mildly dissociative until I can get my rhythm back in order. That said I always enjoy my time doing it. Seeing these maps really just scratched an itch for me that I can’t normally do.
The amount of things people can still do in Source is insanity to me. I mean, there MUST have been some sort of sacrifice, right? Some sort of bargain with the devil?
huge fan of your cozy "Where are we now?" videos, theyre excellently edited ad very interesting, and your soft soothing voice is really calming and charming. keep it up!
As someone who would use AI over the classic stuff it’s mostly because everyone’s seen most of the good surrealist art. Everyone’s seen the stairs, the bearded men riding their beards, et cetera. Plus, it’s hard to find good modern surrealist art. The only artists I can think of who I could justifiably say makes art that would fit into these environments would be Trevor Henderson, and Toy(e)
This series is really great, and adding special episodes is a real treat. You've been doing really good with this series and I hope to see more. You wanted some special episode suggestions, so here's mine. Do you think you could do one on woodsy type maps? Maybe some abandoned places and whatnot? I always love those environments.
loved the themed episode, all of these are so damn great and its so cool to see you having some fun and spicing things up with it. and the music choice for the credits was fantastic btw
gm_adventurers is the ultimate cozy nighttime map imo, especially the "smoking area" outside the club next to the sea. also neither blue nor white appear on the German flag.
Knowing it’s a late comment but I can’t show enough appreciation for your videos, and I’m especially happy I got to be a subscriber before 1K. I watch the videos everytime they come out and they are just so relatable and relaxing to watch. Love the videos and keep up the great work. (P.S. that Gmod server would be an amazing idea, and maybe you could start a discord to see who’s interested). Edit: Didn’t even realize i’m pretty sure i’ve been subscribed since before 100! THATS SO CRAZY TO ME
Please do that community-wide RP week on the NYC map, I'm in a similar boat where I've played GMod for over a decade but I've never messed around in an RP server since I had no friends and it didn't feel welcoming to solo newcomers to my young insecure self. But now I'm older, and I'm jealous of all the fun opportunities RP servers offered and the memories that people made, and I have really been wanting to try out a server like that myself. I think having a server as a week-long event where it will slowly evolve over that week is a really fun idea, and since it is always going to be a relatively 'new' server even in the end it makes it incredibly friendly to newcomers too. I really hope that happens, and I would definitely be there taking part if it does (sans the days I have work, not doing a gmod rp shift before a real-life shift lol)
Fake and fantasy brands are one of my favorite aspects in any game. It’s just so fun to observe and probably to create too! I wish there’s like a tutorial on how to do it. I even have a plan on making Unreal Engine game solely to create fake brands and apply them in the game.
@Kalitayy When I saw the brands in the convenience store I was excited to see actual brands being used! In Sweden there actually exists “Svenska Lantchips”, “Estrella” and OLW brands for chips. All other products are also renames from real stuff which feels like I’m just roaming my local store 😂 I do think they are assets from the CSGO map Insertion 2 though, but still!
Man i love this videos and the way you comment things, real shame they dont get more views and likes. Pls if you are able, keep up this series going i will be waiting for a new video everytime.
42:19 someone else probably commented this already, but pop dog was a game development studio that made some of the maps for the very early commercial versions of counter strike, and they used to put those ads as easter eggs in their maps.
I went out for a walk at night, like actually midnight, around my neighborhood once, and ended up helping someone find their dog that got out. So that was neat.
24:37 growing apples from store seeds doesn't work because of the inherent nature of how apples are grown and propagated. You'd need a cutting from the original apple
Hey logan, I absolutely love these videos that you are making. Every time I see a new one it is an instant click. I think an interesting idea that I had was maybe you could branch out of g-mod and potentially look at some VR-Chat or other games that have a similar community that have interesting map ideas! i know you said that VR is out of scope for you right now, but there is a desktop version of it where you have most of the functionalites you get out of VR as well!
I'm definitely not limited to just gmod for this series. Later on down the line, there could be episodes featuring other games with a healthy community of talented creators, like Roblox, VR Chat, Arma 3, Skyrim, Project Zomboid, etc.
All of the products in the store of the first map are Swedish, although with names slightly changed, some inappropriate lol. The one in the top left of the candy isle says “tutte” which means “boob”. Also, “Svenska lantchips” literally means “Swedish country crisps”, they’re very good 😁 I wouldn’t give them to a burglar.
30:40 I think the most detailed urban map I've ever seen in GMod was RP_UnionCity, which has both day and night versions, followed by RP_Southside by the same creator. You could check them out in a future video. The texture work on those maps was insanely good, at some points it felt like I was playing GTA IV in first person instead of GMod.
Yeah, those are good maps. Interestingly enough, rp_nycity is pretty much the two of them combined into one map with a few changes, iirc. I'm convinced that Fishke performed some sort of blood ritual to gain the literal magic required to make stuff like this in Source.
Of course, the first video I actually get my audio settings correct, it waited until when I was recording my narration to rain. I mitigated it the best I could in the editing process, but it still comes through at points. Bonus game: Can YOU guess at which point in the video it started raining outside?
It kinda added to the ambience, I almost didnt even notice until I read the comment LOL
Rain vs. no rain? I'd take the rain. I'm on t.v. so I couldn't hear it. I would have liked to though.
This is the mark of a dungeon master. Nothing is an accident. Everything is part of of the story.
"which ones smokers could use~"?
yeah nah thats f*cked. No wonder no one was there

Also did not expect to see the matrix powerade show up. Flashbacks to junior year in HS.
pop dog is a reference to barking dog studios the creators of the first counter strike I think.
Thank you for making these videos, finding your channel is one of the best things that happened to me this week.
6:33 Oh boy, I love washing my hair with LSD.
I fall asleep to this video part of my playlist to help me every night. Thank you for this video!
He's right about the dollar tree signs, my local dollar general only had the "d l ar Ge ra " letters lit up fully
I really gotta put your channel on all notifications on since I LOVE these videos, genuinely such a chill experience with you talking and explaining things, and also get to see some cool maps I likely wouldn't have ever tried out myself.
I love that for you. Thanks for watching.
This video is amazing with the humor, the commentary, and the calming gameplay
This is a perfect snuggle vid
And yes that was an offer :3
I think the gmod server of RP_nycity would be a great idea, getting 50-100 people on that map would be amazing to experience.
It would be a unforgettable experience!
Oh it absolutely would be. Maybe someday.
Your map videos are extra cozy for the rest of us vampires. So rare to find something this chill
You have a really chill voice. I’ve started watching your videos while doing data entry at work. It helps that time pass.
Hey man, your commentary makes me wanna play Gmod and explore some of these maps, that's it, have a good one 👍
such a cozy video. your narration was wonderful. friendly and warm but not like that weird ASMR-type stuff that some people try to do when they make videos like this about cozy fiction. subbed!
man i love having your vids in the background, so chill and relaxing.
I specialize in second monitor videos.
Yesss, yeeess! - More content!
I honestly can't describe it but watching and listening to these videos just actives that 'calm mode' in my head.
16:44 Ceiling fan also has its own shadow too! I just find it neat because it's usually not possible in older source games
The amount of things people can still do in Source is insanity to me. I mean, there MUST have been some sort of sacrifice, right? Some sort of bargain with the devil?
huge fan of your cozy "Where are we now?" videos, theyre excellently edited ad very interesting, and your soft soothing voice is really calming and charming. keep it up!
I've known at least 10 people with homemade models of the L4D pipebomb. Generally it's prominantly displayed specifically for that reason.
That's a crazy statistic
wow that plaza with a dollar store and Chinese takeout was so accurate
I need context on the "wet clicking sound" line its so ominous
Great cinematic sequence! Thanks for putting in the extra work, it doesn't go unnoticed.
I like the theme it really helps centre the video in my opinion
I think so, too. Thanks for watching.
The montages at 28:54 is beautiful.
My only gripe with maps nowadays is that, instead of using actual surreal classic art, they choose to use AI content. Insanely disappointing :
Agreed. It's such a simple tweak that could do so much go make it better :/
As someone who would use AI over the classic stuff it’s mostly because everyone’s seen most of the good surrealist art. Everyone’s seen the stairs, the bearded men riding their beards, et cetera. Plus, it’s hard to find good modern surrealist art. The only artists I can think of who I could justifiably say makes art that would fit into these environments would be Trevor Henderson, and Toy(e)
so happy to see another one of these!!! i've rewatched your other two a huge number of times, they're very relaxing
love the vibe and darkening effects when its bright, awesome video!!
I feel ya. I still work at night time and I sleep during the day. Even on my days off, I take a big nap in the middle of the day for some reason.
I think this is a wonderful direction to take the series, I love the liminal walkthroughs and I really enjoyed this.
This series is really great, and adding special episodes is a real treat. You've been doing really good with this series and I hope to see more.
You wanted some special episode suggestions, so here's mine. Do you think you could do one on woodsy type maps? Maybe some abandoned places and whatnot? I always love those environments.
This was a great video! Love your commentary.
Love to see another video uploaded! Your work's so relaxing
Late comment but i enjoyed this video alot, i always loved your gmod vids, i think you should keep doing these, keep it up homie 💪👍
Thank you. I think I will, they're fun.
Watching this in the dead of night with the crickets chirping outside is something else.
I love this series of yours, specially when your little skeleton man has a third person walk. Very cozy.
I tried these maps in VR and holy shit all of them are so peaceful and amazing in VR
loved the themed episode, all of these are so damn great and its so cool to see you having some fun and spicing things up with it. and the music choice for the credits was fantastic btw
"The moon gives you tides and cheese"
hell yeah, been hyped af for this video. Always love the work and time put into these!
Thank you for continuing to make these videos and for continuing to do the survivability test for maps, I am always 100% invested in them
Thank you for watching, glad you had fun.
gm_adventurers is the ultimate cozy nighttime map imo, especially the "smoking area" outside the club next to the sea. also neither blue nor white appear on the German flag.
12:18 The Military Truck here may be a MAZ-7917 or related truck. Though the lack of detail makes it hard to be certain.
FINALLY someone who understands that people can be nocturnal!!!!
THATS SO CRAZY TO ME
Yeah, I recognize you. We're just getting started, too. Lots more on its way.
Love all the moon appreciation in this video, easily #1 celestial body
god I love these videos with all of my heart, another great one man
Please do that community-wide RP week on the NYC map, I'm in a similar boat where I've played GMod for over a decade but I've never messed around in an RP server since I had no friends and it didn't feel welcoming to solo newcomers to my young insecure self.
44:30 that'd go hard
Fake and fantasy brands are one of my favorite aspects in any game. It’s just so fun to observe and probably to create too! I wish there’s like a tutorial on how to do it. I even have a plan on making Unreal Engine game solely to create fake brands and apply them in the game.
That sounds awesome, honestly, keep me updated.
Nah because it is 2:12 am on my clock right now. You got me scared asf
im from upstate new york. i appreciate your videos dearly. i love you
Game recognize game. Thanks for watching!
I'm from the Watertown area originally, wbu?
Glad to see you're back, definitely going to enjoy this. I will comment again when I am finished.
He's back, boys!
Love your content, man.
Man i love this videos and the way you comment things, real shame they dont get more views and likes. Pls if you are able, keep up this series going i will be waiting for a new video everytime.
You couldn't get me to stop making these if you BEGGED. Thanks for watching.
Watching these high with snacks in tow is an experience I look so much forward to
I'm glad lmao. I think a lot of stoners watch these, actually.
Pop Dog is a reference to a counterstrike development team i think
24:37 growing apples from store seeds doesn't work because of the inherent nature of how apples are grown and propagated. You'd need a cutting from the original apple
18:40 lmao that sink
Worth the wait! Thanks Logan!
I had a fever dream once, the founding fathers where arguing about who contributed more to modern American culture.
the moon also doesn't hurt your eyes, the sun does
TRUE
