Thanks for doing my suggestion. This is one of my top 3 Lovebites songs out of all of them to date. The first 3 minutes is a nice melancholy slow build up, and you think, OK that's a cool song. But then Miyako jumps on the piano (while 4-5 months pregnant mind you) holding her guitar in her lap and creates this beautiful background. And then the heavens open up, and snow flakes begin to fall while an Angel descends to dance around like a ballerina. Moments later we have Midori on the acoustic guitar, serenading us with a Spanish-like tune that all just flows together so beautifully. After that, we get a drum/piano alternating percussion rhythm, signaling an explosion is about to occur, and then BOOM Midori rips off her most soulful and emotional solo that gives me chills every freaking time. But wait, we aren't done yet. Asami floats down the stairs and then belts out the powerful and melodic ending to the lyrics, quickly followed by this intricate harmonized duet from Midori and Miyako (who has jumped right back onto the guitar). Wow, wow, wow, just wow.

Miyako was around four months pregnant when this video was recorded and she takes just two seconds from sitting and playing the last note on the piano (with her guitar resting on her baby bump) to standing and playing her guitar. You should really check out the live video of Lovebites' "Epilogue" and "Edge of the World" and "Swan Song" (with the Chopin piano intro).

Because Electric Pentagram came out in winter, Asami wanted a sad winter ballad. Asami wanted acoustic guitar on the track. Miyako recorded the acoustic guitar, while live, Midori has to play it, because Miyako is busy on piano.

No other band could have conceived such a production. Asami is elegance personified. My favourite moment is her slow walk down the stairs.
    Now you understand
Now you know why the Wolfpack exists.
    These ladies have no peers.
(And that is the perfect Bond song don’t you think?)

Well, it seems you’ve been severely lovebitten , too. I really appreciate all of your reactions to amazing Lovebites in a short time. Some people say that they’re redefining metal or that they are breaking the walls of stereotypes in the metal scene. Others say that they’re angels who came to planet Earth in order to save metal. These women are extremely talented, skillful and versatile exceptional musicians. I discovered this band a little more than three years ago and I’m still in awe. Yes, Miyako is a concert level classical pianist. As real musicians, their versatility and creativity is outstanding. My next recommendations are “Thunder vengeance”, “Raise some hell”, “When destinies align”, “Scream for me”, “Glory to the world”, “Edge of the world”, “Empty daydream”.

Your reaction says it all. I think you have just caught a glimpse of how truly talented these ladies are. More to come. And you hit the nail on the head with Asami, the vocalist. Her magic and gift are being able to powerfully soar above the really fast-paced and heavy riffs/licks of Lovebites' music to make the tracks sound melodic.

  • @thesaturdaymorningcowboy4198
    @thesaturdaymorningcowboy4198 11 місяців тому +38

So, two comments for you. First, think of Asami as the melody. Secondly, if you thought this was mind blowing, then buckle your seatbelt and queue up Lovebites’ live performance of “Swan Song with Chopin Intro” where Miyako takes two technically difficult classical piano pieces and uses them as bookends for a classical based heavy metal feast for the senses. After which you’ll understand why I always say, “behold, the power of Miyako, and Led Zeppelin may have their Stairway to Heaven, but Lovebites have their own Swan Song.” 😊😊😊😊😊

You touched on part of the magic of Asami. She sings almost as though it's opera, over that bedrock of metal. How many true masterpieces are there in the history of rock? A dozen? I would name “A Day in the Life” by the Beatles; “The End” by the Doors; “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen; “Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin; “Layla” by Derek and the Dominoes; "The Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd; “Starless” by King Crimson; “Ghost Love Score” by Nightwish… maybe a few more. Few rock groups have ever produced a masterpiece, and some of the greatest never managed it. Lovebites have given us several, and I would put this performance at the top of the list.

@@TheCyberMantis So I have been listening to some Symphony X--entirely due to your having pointed them out many times in the comments. I like what I've heard--the compositions are epic, the arrangements interesting. I don't know how old you are, but they remind me quite a bit of some 70's and 80's progressive rock, just heavier and more metal. ELP, Genesis, Rick Wakeman, Yes. The only thing I'm not sold on is Russell Allen's voice. But thanks for suggesting them and persisting! I've only listened to some early stuff--let me know which of their most recent albums you most recommend, if any. Thanks!

@@hiawatha.g I'm glad you are checking them out. Your comparisons are spot-on. The keyboard player, Michael Pinella, is certainly influenced by those bands you mentioned. Romeo too, I suspect. Russ has power and soul in his voice. A good range, too. At times he reminds me of Ronnie James Dio. I highly recommend you listen to the "V" album all the way through from start to finish. It is a brilliant musical journey that will showcase what Symphony X can do. It's a perfect blend of heavy and melodic. It's my favorite Symphony X album.

This is really Asami's song since she co-wrote it with Mao and she delivers what is arguably her most beautiful and captivating live performance of it in this show. However the other member of the band that really shines here is Midori. If her exquisite acoustic guitar piece were not enough she then proceeds to deliver what is possibly my favourite guitar solo from her. We always think of Miyako as the queen of feels and Midori as simply a speed demon shredder but her guitar on this song wails with tormented grief and tortured melancholy; simply mesmerising.

It's exactly in these moments that you notice how high the demands are on Lovebites, and how things are perceived as "normal". I don't want to put other bands down, but you just have to admit that Lovebites is currently the best heavy metal band in the world (it's just my preference because they meet my taste exactly), and I'm not interested in male/female, I only apply the technical musical standard, they worked hard, the rest is more of a brutally unfair bonus! who should fool them "live"? they tend to wipe up the stage with the others. The band is in the first third of their career, they still see themselves in the technical learning phase!?...You'll never get rid of this band again, they've got you hooked. Have fun searching for a bad song!

A demonstration of artistic talent. Not many bands could play at this level of skill. You also have to give credit to the stage engineers and audio technicians, in order for the lady's to keep in sync with each other and the music track.
Regarding Asami's vocals, although unlikely, she may have the vocal track playing in her ear phones. The ability to sing unaccompanied is the mark of a good singer. Due to advances in recording and computers, the ability to sing has become way less important than years ago.

LOVEBITES - A Frozen Serenade lyrics:
Crystal tears Falling from the skies
    Veiling fears The emptiness inside
    Time is just passing by
Killing me under the soft twilight
    A frozen melody
Of doves and ravens dancing in melancholy
    A distant memory
If only this snow could erase the pain
I'd wake up in a serenade
    One life ends
    And one life begins
    Evanesce
    To our origins
When I'm lost on my way
Lead my heart and guide me with your grace
    A frozen melody
Of doves and ravens dancing in melancholy
    A distant memory
If only this snow could erase the pain
I'd wake up in a serenade
Just like a dream, just like a bird
    I'll keep on singing out
Even if my voice cannot reach you
Seasons may pass, but its beauty will never fade away
All living things are precious and irreplaceable
Just like a dream, just like a bird
    I'll keep on singing out
Even if my voice cannot reach you
White butterflies are fluttering under the silver sky
If only I could wish to see you once more

Most LB songs are Epic, then there are those that are Masterpieces and you just experienced one. Along with Swan Song with Chopin Etude intro, Empty Daydream or Epilogue they leave you so stunned you can get your brain working for quite awhile. These women never ever disappoint, they are simply incapable of writing, composing and playing a bad or even ordinary tune. LIVE this band is the very definition of Flawless Perfection!!

I'd say if you go west long enough you'll end up in the east. Can't go east if you keep going west.

This is the best band on the planet(never mind metal!) 65+ songs everyone is excellent! Lovebites do not write ANY weak songs! They only write masterpieces.

As a fellow ancient relict, I might add, Lovebites should at least be called a metal+ band. They have incorporated so many classical elements. not only like Symphonic Metalthe rythms and melodies, but also the techniques. Miyako often tunes her guitar like a piano and plays it as well like one with this hard tipping. So she can actually take over runs from the piano to the guitar and vice versa. Most prominent in 'Swan song'.

Agreed, and it is an absolute shame so few people will ever realize it. I guess it is the fate of asian metal bands. It was the same for bands like "Maximum the Hormone" back in the 2000s when they were obviously one of the greatest bands in the world. I was lucky to catch them twice at the biggest metal festival at them time, Wacken, but man, were they unknown.

    I don't think it's a sad love song. I think it's about nuclear winter.

    • @hiawatha.g

It is a love song as a metaphor for nuclear winter, so in a way it's both. But the winter imagery is pretty powerful.

Way, WAY too mellow for me. I'll go try another? A Simon Cowell reference? DUDE, c'mon man. RILLY? That's a HUGE loss of RWA points in ALL metal communities. LMFAO!!!
