Miyako use a Backing track on this song, she's recorded the piano part and the End in guitar. Miyako control her Backing track with her Guitar pedal. She start piano at 3 years old , she became a concertist and a 19 years old she décide to grab a Guitar with training Book ( she never take a lesson with a teacher) she a Beast in guitare and piano too. I❤ Miyako

Glad you loved it TAM. Actually, Midori was using a harmonizer pedal to simulate Miyako's lead solo from earlier in the song. Midori uses that pedal occasionally, most notably on Shadowmaker - one of their earliest, and Best songs. There is a video on the Lovebites channel of Shadowmaker - their 2nd MV, released in Oct of 2017, about a year after they formed. There is a more spectacular Live version of it in their 2021 Heavy Metal Never Dies tour. Either is a great reaction. The early one shows they were already Great a year after they formed. The later one shows that they have Never Stopped improving in their technique and musicianship. It just gets better album after album. 🤘🐺🤘

like you said - they use the backing tracks where necessary and they are tasteful. miyako's piano pieces during the chorus are prerecorded by her and added to make the song complete. and also correct on when she goes back to the piano - once again her guitar part is done the same way along with the backing chorus at the end. it makes the song that much closer to the recorded version and i love it. master musicians on every level

You are absolutely right. There are two kinds of back tracks. One is simply to cheat on the audience using a part the band never can play, and the other is as an effect to give extra flavor to the sound. The latter is just like hiring an extra support musician or musicians. It is just an effect and if you deny it then you can't use any other effects. In this case of Lovebites, it is the latter case and even the back track must be done by Miyako herself. She plays the same part on piano at the very end of the performance. Yes, she can do it perfectly in live with no take two. As you pointed out, it is not a problem.

They have every live one o two backing track recorded by Miyako and then executed during the song. In Swan song you can hear another backing track on piano Chopin etude: "Ocean" that Miyako plays live at the end mixed with the New World Symphony by Dvorak!

You don’t have to use a back track to get the sound of 2 guitars. I use a harmonizer pedal which splits and pitch shifts the input. It’s really useful if you like playing bands like Lovebites and Iron Maiden who do lots of harmonies.

The young Japanese bands have not earned millions of dollars or euros during their short existence. When they go on live tours, these bands cannot take additional pianists, guitarists or a choir to perform a song. That would be financial ruin. If a young band wants to present a perfect sounding high quality piece of music, backing tracks are the only option.
The great thing about Lovebites is that Miyako plays all this and also organizes it on stage. Even bands that make hundreds of millions, like the Rolling Stones, use backing tracks. For example, the bongo drums at the beginning of Sympathy for the Devil. After 1975 they were never played live again. Who still evaluates something like that negatively in 2023 doesn't live in reality anymore.
This song is a Masterpiece from Miyako🤘.🤘

Thank you for getting to this. For your viewers unfamiliar with classical composers: Chopin was a Polish-born Romantic-era (1800’s) classical composer and piano virtuoso who lived most of his life in France. He is considered one of the great classical composers, specializing in highly technical works for piano. Miyako, who composes a lot of Lovebites’ music, is a professional-level concert pianist, and was originally going to make classical music her career. When she was 18, she picked up a guitar, and is now (quite obviously) an elite-level guitarist. She particularly likes the Romantic Era classical composers like Debussy, Dvořák and Chopin, as well as her stated favorite, Russian romantic composer Rachmaninoff. She composed “Swan Song” using elements of the New World Symphony (Dvořák) and Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor), with a passage from Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto #2 as the outro. For this performance, she actually played the Etude as a prelude, but it’s not normally included in their shows.

And Asami always sings live, she really can sing, and that can't be said about the singer of MC, Vince Neil admitted that he was chosen as vocalist based on his looks, not for his vocal abilities.

Well. I do think they used short backing track for rhythmic guitar, while Miyako transitions to piano, but saying they used "Guitar SOLO backing track" is just false rumors. They never use backing tracks for the actual guitar SOLOS. There was only Midori soloing at the time, while Miyako was just doing the rhythmic guitar part.

There is actually two parts in this where there is an instrumental backing track - the one you mentioned and also a piano track ( laid down by Miyako ) used when she is playing guitar . As you said as long as they're actually playing their instruments ( which they are ) then it's sometimes unavoidable - ALTHOUGH - there is actually a video of one song in which Miyako is playing guitar AND piano simultaneously - yes she is Wonderwoman !

I’m immediately thrown into “defend M&M’s musical integrity” mode. I have just played the same section of the song in the 2021 “Heavy Metal Never Dies” set, because I fully understand Miyako playing a track of herself playing piano is not only legitimate, but necessary (as is the “male choir” which most people assume is the audience. The audience join in, but it’s on the track). I have a hard time imagining that Miyako herself, and Midori too, would be comfortable with either being tracked, however necessary, on guitar.
In the HMND version it doesn’t sound as pronounced a “harmony”. Might I suggest that the equipment Midori has is more than capable of providing a harmony effect triggered by a programmed pedal? Tracked Harmonic guitar just doesn’t sit well with how I imagine Miyako sees herself as an artist. Also, she knowingly composes tracks with live performance in mind, and I think it unlikely that someone with such attention to detail would leave an obvious “oops” in the composition. Like I said, I have to defend the ladies’ honour.

I've always wondered which it is, Miyako on a backing track or Midori with a harmonizing effect pedal. You know what? Who cares. If Miyako can back track to perfection, why is any integrity lost? If it's backed, then we are listening to Miyako playing two instruments at the same time, fast and precise. She does it with piano, and that's an instrument just like guitar. If guitar backed, then twice Miyako proves it's no fluke as she plays live, with two instruments, what is on the backing track. That's next level musicianship honor.

Noble sentiment, but I don't think their honor is at stake here. It's not dishonorable to use backing tracks (as long as a band doesn't try to pass off a studio musician's playing as its own). Miyako's previous bands A Drop of Joker and 21g made use of keyboard and/or guitar backing tracks for some songs of their live sets. Of course those were one-guitar bands.

Japanese bands in general are very good using backing. They don't try to 'hide' it but use it in a way to assist live performances. In addition you have to credit the stage sound engineer who syncs, in the case of Lovebites, four instruments, lead and backing vocal along with track.

Sometimes backing tracks are find if it’s part of the performance. If you listen the piano is playing when both guitarists are playing. But the backing track is them. Even when band# use other people it in the right circumstances. Nightwish have the London Philharmonic Orchestra back track them and 2 choirs. It how and why you did it that counts.

He adds depth to his music that can’t be done by just the 6 of them.
To me that is totally acceptable, and nothing wrong with it.
Now if you have backing tracks to make up for a bad singer, or player in your band , and thus are faking your performance on stage; that I have a problem with. (Milli Vanilli for example)

This one, we don't get to see it all. It's an amazing arrangement using Chopin, reflecting that in the guitar solos, the piano backing track, the lyrics blending imagery of the dying swan and Valhalla. At the end of her solo, Midori does the motion to her neck, and Asami plays out the end of Swan Lake and the dying swan, while Miyako is highlighted on the piano. This and Frozen Serenade are just unbelievable. I suppose I would say the other masterpiece would be Edge of the World: ua-cam.com/video/Zr99B4RvaMc/v-deo.html That's not to say there aren't other amazing performances - there are- but since you've done 2 of the 3 "masterpieces" might as well get this one in now. The Chopin piece Miyako (guitar/keyboards) is playing in the intro is "Etude OP10, No. 12" known as the "Revolutionary Etude."
In 1831, some officers and citizens rose up against the Polish government, which was under the de facto control of the Russian Empire, in what was called the "November Revolution" but ended in failure due to the direct intervention of Russian troops. Chopin received this news during a performance tour. He never set foot on the soil of his homeland again. When the Russians invaded Warsaw, Chopin's agent presented "Etude OP10, No. 12" in Paris. Because of the agent's exaggerated publicity, people called this piece "Revolutionary Etude.
Miyasako composed "Swan Song" based on this "Revolutionary Etude" and Dvorak's "New World Symphony.
Asami (vocalist), a former ballerina, wrote the lyrics based on the historical background of "Revolutionary Etude" and inspired by Norse mythology and the ballet suite "Swan Lake.
"SwanSong" is a requiem dedicated to the warriors who fought to reclaim their homeland, a masterpiece that only LOVEBITES could complete.
