I am going to try it. I might have missed a dimension, but I thought I heard him say several times that the strip was 1/8 inch wide. The two layers of material shown look to be 3.5 mm thick, which is already over 1/8". And the strip looks to be at least twice as wide as that, so maybe 1/4".

I have a question. This thing about doing 2 whip finishes seems to have taken off. I never hear of that until a while back and it baffles me. I have been tying nearly 50 years now, and I don't think I have ever had a whip finish come undone. Particularly if I lacquer it. Let alone all the rez, epoxy, and super glue people are using. A while back when AKs books came out he was saying he didn't even use glue, on all his flies, so I stopped, and for the most part there was little difference. Tying pro I use glue because it is expected, but it really isn't needed.
My theory is it is all these whip finish tools, and folks just blasting in these narrow whips. For the most part when doing a nicely shaped head, I might wind to the back of the head, then hand whip, working forward and laying down perfect adjacent wraps that make a beautiful head. Sometimes I might do two layers. When done this way, each wrap is a full power cinch over the thread, and there can be 10 or so, Whatever it takes. If there is any risk at all, it is that the thread I pull will break off, the knot is so tight. And it happens ever year or two. If you use lacquer, the whole whip is spread out and the stack is often only one thread thick so the lacquer will soak right into the underlying tag, and bond it solid. I just don't get how it can ever come apart.
    What do you guys think?
