In this week’s episode of Tying Tuesdays, watch as Steve ties the Knuckle Dragger! "This variation of the Knuckle Dragger Golden Stone from John Newbury demonstrates a way of tying rubber-legged patterns that should be attempted by any fly tyer. As explained by Newbury, by leaving the forward-facing legs about twice the length as the rearward, you allow the fly to "swim" through the drift, especially when fished on a loop knot for maximum freedom of movement. I have tied many rubber-legged flies in the past, and have now adopted this style for any and all patterns needing some wiggly appendages. An additional benefit is that this leg configuration does not foul around the hook point like you often find with rubber legs on a jig hook. I encourage folks to check out all of the other variations of this pattern and its siblings on John Newburys website (flyfish-pied.v...)"

Awesome fly!! Very educational and informative video, thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching, cheers!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Our pleasure!
Terrific tie and relatively easy. I think Virginia trout will like....a lot. Keep these coming, you do a great job with explanations and suggestions.
Thanks for the kind words! I'm sure your fish in VA will crush these!
Great simple fly, thanks.
Glad you like it!
Really well-done video Steve!
Thanks!
Very cool!
Thanks!
Nice , haven’t tied this pattern on a jig hook usually on straight shank and use a root beer glass bead . I like the slotted bead on the jig hook though it looks like it would give it good stonefly action and keep the hook up . Stonefly season is coming soon to the Madison hopefully we will have water for them . Thanks for the video
Glad you like the video and the pattern variation! Hope the Madison is fun this year for ya!
Straight forward tutorial. Thanks for sharing. Definitely going to give it a try.
Thanks, James!
Nice fly, like that body much better than chenille.! By using a slotted bead, if orienting the slot at the top, like on a perdition, will it then float inverted for less hang ups?
This pattern will ride with the hook point up, yes. Thanks for watching!
Perdigon, not perdition, stupid auto correct. :)
