- This simple little Foam Spider has been a proven fish catcher for years. The foam body keeps it floating while the long flexible legs give the fly motion and life with even the slightest twitch of the rod. There isn't much that is more fun than catching panfish on a surface fly, and this is one of the most productive patterns anywhere!

If you cut open a piece of bungee cord, you'll find miles of black and white rubber for legs. It doesn't get any cheaper.:-)
I have been tying flies on my own and learning as I go. your instructions are easy and fun to have. I love fly fishing for bass and gills. so far I have had alot of success on your designs. please keep up the great videos.

Good video. Thanks for sharing. Tip...if you have the vice jaws like yours that are rounded you can place the hook point just in the jaws so that you can slide the thread easier around without snagging the point.
True, but putting the point of the hook in the jaws can also weaken the hook at the barb, and even break off the point.
Never had an issue as I put the largest part of hook turn in vice and with point of hook hidden in jaws and never touch the hook point. You can play around until you find it. I did.

Welcome! It is a pattern you should always have a few of when fishing warm waters. I carry them in black, yellow, red, and purple. I have found that even Smallmouth that have been heavily fished will hit a yellow spider!

Don't let that foam-spider fool yah. I tied one entirely out of foam and I landed steelhead.
