Nice job Katie. Enjoyed the video. Will tie some of these in the near future after I finish re-stocking my trout flies for PA fishing season. And of course, I’ll buy whatever materials I don’t currently have from MRO!
Brand new to fly fishing and been living on Mad River videos, Katie tied up my first Gurgler, caught my first Bass on a fly rod with it first time out! Thanks for the video!
it's videos like this is why I support Mad river outfitters by purchasing from their website as well as my local fly shop. I'm picky who I give my money to. also always buy made in America whenever possible.
A question, is that thin piece of foam enough to keep the fly floating or is it the "lip" that pushes the fly upwards, lika reverse crankbaitlip or both? Great video!
Jack Gartside would have capital L LOVED Katie tying his fly. Excellent instruction and solid explanation of a varied pattern, used pink for silvers in AK, black and silver at night for big browns in Massachusetts and mini white and lateral scale gurglers for landlock salmon in Maine. Solid pattern.
yellow - Brown Trout - fall float up from the bottom. Egg pattern 18" behind on 5 ft of leader to a gurgler. Deadly. Or a yellow booby. Works for Splake as well.
Question, I have been seeing a lot of these popper tying videos and some recommend fly tying foam over crafting foam. Is there really that much of a difference between the two? Thanks and great video.
I choose this fly for adding flies to my rerepertoire of flies. This will work for me as your instruction allows for many variables. That way when someone examines it and says I didn't tie it right, I'll just tell them it's my variation. 😁
Just in time to get some tied up for Smallmouth!

Here too! Thanks for being here.
A question, is that thin piece of foam enough to keep the fly floating or is it the "lip" that pushes the fly upwards, lika reverse crankbaitlip or both? Great video!
Both. It floats due to the foam and the lip pushes it upwards. Thanks for watching.

Great video, thanks. I'm new to this. So why is that foam? To floating nicely on water?
Thanks for watching. Foam does make it float for sure.
Question, I have been seeing a lot of these popper tying videos and some recommend fly tying foam over crafting foam. Is there really that much of a difference between the two? Thanks and great video.
Please contact the shop via phone or email and they will be happy to help. Thanks.
It's the same go to hobby lobby

Sounds about right. Thanks for watching.
