interesting that so many tiers thread the bead onto the hook by holding the hook in one hand and the bead in the other, obviously they have superior dexterity compared to mine - I drop fewer beads by inserting the hook upside down in the vice, then threading the bead onto the hook, then turning the hook right side up, putting it back into the vice, then begin tying
We tie these in chartreuse and call them green weenies. They mimic little inch worms in the smokies. I thought it was the dumbest fly ever at first but I have since caught some of my biggest trout on that fly.
Thank you this is my second fly I’ve made that looks like a fly I got here from the grasshoppers video and that one was a hard one it was really hard hahahahah anyway I have a question I just got into fly tieing and I was wondering is a may flie a good fly for fish and easy too? Thanks
Do you tie right handed because you did not have a lefty to teach you? Inoticed you half hitched the mop fly with you fingers. Do you ever use a whip finisher?
Thanks for watching. You'd have to touch base with Ryan directly through the shop and he will be happy to answer your questions. You can e-mail him or call him. He does not monitor the comments here but of course works in the shop most every day!
Thanks for watching this simple Mop Fly Tutorial! Stay tuned 🤙
The mop fly reminds me of a leach or a tiny centipede
Will that mop chenille float if we hit with enough floatant? If I can get in blue it might make a great dragonfly tail.
"Don't worry, it's a mop fly"... a metaphor for life. I loathe, ummm love, ummm loathe (did I say love?) this video!!!
Thanks for watching.
I can't wait for your "beginning fly tying" series to start. I'm getting my son into fly tying. So informative.

Love this fly here in north ga. Gills, bass and trout love it even more!
Well dang, I can tie these sitting in the parking lot on my tail gate. Maybe even with a beer in one hand! Wearing waders!
That's awesome! Happy to help.
Very informative vlog. Keep them coming.
As long as folks continue to support the shop, we WILL! So far so good.

Its just faster this way. With bigger beads and hooks it is much easier than tiny beads or tiny hooks

Sometimes simple is the best bet! Thanks for watching.

Add a reverse hackle and it makes a very effective Tenkara Kebari Fly.

What is the purpose of the glue? Is it to stick to the bead?
To stick to everything? Feel free to call or e-mail the folks at the shop with any other questions. Thanks for watching!
Good for winter steelhead fishing?
Don’t see why not but best to call and chat with the folks at the shop. Thanks.
What kind of vise is that? Thanks for the lesson!
Not sure. Send Ryan an e-mail at the shop and he'll get right back to you. admin@madriveroutfitters.com
The mop fly is the Senko worm of the trout world.
Could be?
Why do you half hitch instead of whip finish?
Mint Berry Crunch Please send all questions directly to the shop and they will help you there.
Works the same, and its quick and easy.
What fish does this fly be used for? WayneO
Anything you want really! Mostly trout and panfish though.
What’s half hitch?
It's a knot.
When nothing's working I throw a mop fly/ squirmy wormy tandem rig. There, I said it!
It's ok to say. They flat out work!!!
Bottom line, Fish will smash a Mop!
Smash! No question.
You cheated! Wrapped your thorax dub on the thread with your right hand!
Sorry. We’ll take the video down right away and Ryan will be fired. Shameful.
