Opponent #1's red eldrazi list was really cool, I've been playing Abzan Eldrazi for a while now so seeing a completely different spin on it is awesome and I love the cards that the red uses.
It's my little trick for my sliver commander deck, slotted a few indestructible lands just for the one that destroy artifacts and enchantments on ETB. If there's nothing else to destroy you are forced to destroy something of yours since it's not a may effect. But indestructible doesn't make things illegal targets for effects like that, just like you can cast a counterspell at something that can't be countered, which is useless but it can have its uses (for example, mana drain still gives you the mana even if the spell isn't countered)
@@darkanayer5867I have a 5-color Artifact Commander deck that runs all 10 Bridges and Darksteel Citadel, I’m seriously considering slotting this in. I almost always have an Indestructible land, and I have 1 of each Basic in the deck… this might work
I'd watch an Oregon trail playthrough. Also, I've already gone like 4-2 or something in BO1 while watching the video. Love this archetype, and it gave me a good reason to craft the bloodletters (I already had the Rushes from just craving packs and the mana base from a previous devotion deck),
Yea right? I get OP could've exiled a card to Otherworldly Light to exile the Gifted Aetherborn and sacrificed one of the High Noons to kill the Eye Tyrant, but it's not guaranteed OP saw that line. Plus, Seth had the upper hand and was causing OP to answer everything he was drawing with Castle Locthwain lest he take a few damage points and die. That scoop seemed way too early to me.
I think he also edited out a lot of that opponent slow-roping the game and was just moving on with his life. Do-nothing, no wincon control players don't make for very good content (or friends, or people...)!
37:17 tap all the swamps plus a castle to play bloodletter and nykthos (plus activation), then activate a castle and you can cast the card because you will have 7 mana left over to cast what you draw
Oof, match 1 game 1 opponent getting three Cleansing Wildfires + indestructible land is pretty nuts (especially when their deck can't have too many of them due to needing colorless mana producers), as well as double Forsake Monument. They ramped harder than a lot of green decks do.
Love the update to the deck! This is the only deck I play in pioneer. My version has a few underworld dreams / Shelly + a peer into the abyss, so you have a few other combo kills. It's nice to be able to board into a decent mid-range deck with some good creatures and card draw
@@eduardoriemenschneider6101 I meant before he attacked. He always forgets to crack his maps before he attacks. Animate the land and crack the map during the precon at main. Still would’ve been killed in response, but would’ve been the best move, given his options
The first time I played Rush of Dread it was in an explorer devotion deck too. This really is the best archtype to play it in, with access to gary and warlock class really adding to the deck!
24:05 Your opponent isn’t casting anything for the same reason you’re not casting anything: you both have hands full of removal and you both know it. He Duressed you and you Thoughtseized him.
This is totally been the deck I wanted to brew for a while and was thinking explorer for nykthos as well so I appreciate having a better deck builder to copy from! 😅
I'm a huge fan of Rush of dread, even when played fairly. It's super useful removal that gets around protections/indestructible. at worst it's a Sheoldred's Edict for 4 which kinda sucks, but more often than not you can at least get 2 or more sacs if the opponent has 3 or more creatures, making it even out with the cost of '2CMC destroy a creature' but on a single card. Late game it can be a super good discard spell, getting 2 or more cards discarded for 5 mana. Because of rounding up, you can even hit people with a full hand size with a 'discard 4' which is BRUTAL. The loose half life effect is probably the best play even without the combo in place because it can make almost any deck race-able. if they've had no lifegain for the entire game so far, you're at least guaranteed to drop them to 10, usually less because of shock lands or other small life cost effects. very easy to clean up at that point. It can even swing a game that's stalled out as a topdeck if you can spree for all 3 effects
I love the redundancy of this deck. Warlock class looked really janky on the deck tech but those games against stone brain show its real power. Plus the level 2 impulse turned out very good.
I played against Seth running a Smugglers Surprise deck in standard the other day, waiting to see if it is included in a video since he wasn’t streaming.
Do you think that lively dirge has potential in standard? - it basically is 5 mana to tutor up any 4 drop creature from your library to the battlefield - you could get Sheoldred, bloodletter or any other 4 drop creature on turn 5, but it also has flexibility as a tutor
That opponent was basically just playing High Noon to turn Spell Queller into straight counter (instead of temporary, O-Ring style counter), right? Definitely a fun idea, but seems more cute than anything. Probably the only thing that might make it less cute and more viable is that if they don't draw their Quellers they can at least use the High Noon as expensive removal.
rush of you area dead is fun af but i personally wouldn't call it a combo card since it has good power by itself and not only due to it's versatility. dread and avarice are themselves both great awesome black cards that solidify the identity of black of "while you play magic i'm here playing poker"
I built a very similar deck, and really does some work in best-of-one explorer. It actually seems to do pretty well against aggro decks as they tend to keep greedy hands and thoughtseize really punishes them for it. There's enough incidental life gain that it can stall them out. Control decks it does decent with too because so many cards are must-answer threats. The decks it doesn't seem to do well against are non-traditional aggro decks like poison or mill. I would actually like to try it in paper but it's so expensive :sob:
I see MonoB Devotion, I click. Personally I prefer to play Hopeless Nightmare in the main over thoughtseize/duress. Sure, you don't get to pick what they discard, but it gets another black pip OTB.
I play 2 Hopeless Nightmares maindeck as well, alongside 3 Thoughtseizes. Works really nicely. Also, I play 2 Vitos in my list - it does enable some really crazy lines
i could see this brew getting competitive, maybe i could benefit getting more ways to tutor nykthos or combo pieces, or getting more agressive card draw
Love seeing this channel going from "Would this great card go well in this great archetype" Much Abrew to "Can JUJU BUBBLE win in Timeless?" Against the Odds over the course of a set
I still disagree with black "breaking the colour pie" with respect to having enchantment hate. Being stuck playing white or green - two colours that share a LOT in terms of what they can do - to get an enchantment off the board I think is a crime, and not the Thunder Junction type. Black being the colour of decay seems to make the most sense to get enchantment removal compared to red or blue, as enchantments can decay over time for various reasons - time, for example. Also Duress and Thoughtseize can already get rid of them from the opponent's hand. Incidentally, I would not be adverse to one or two copies of Karn the Great Creator or something similar so you can turn your opponent's artifacts into something you can remove via Murderous Rider et al. About 49 minutes in, maybe you could have Shot the Murderous Rider to stop the opponent from gaining life with the Helix?
8:40 Disagree with the choice here. If they draw land they can ramp into... A skitterbeam? They have nothing in hand that really works at 7 mana. If they draw 2 lands they can use this to cast Ugin which is bad, but so is not taking the monument. Feat gives them lots of mana for 1 turn. Monument gives them lots of mana forever! It only costs 1 more mana, but both cards only function when they have 5 lands anyway.
