I'm very surprised you run the cycling duals instead of the surveil lands. You almost always want to play lands over cycling them unless you need to flip Azcanta, and surveil fills the bin for Azcanta while also helping you find what you need. It'd also be a good curve-filler for all those fetches.
If you don't have full control in, you need to set any stops before your last possible play. Otherwise the auto passer will already be on opp turn before you click the stop. Even if it looks like you did it fast enough, the program has already passed
One argument I've heard of against other formats having a Restricted list is that it ends up making much of the format look very similar. Once you have enough Restricted cards, it'll become a lot like Vintage, where a common starting point for deck building is "Lotus, 5 Moxen, Sol Ring, Ancestral Recall, Demonic Tutor, Yawgmoth's Will, Time Walk" and that's already nearly 20% of your deck before you've even chosen an archetype - adding four Force of Will (not unreasonable) and now you're at a full 25% of a maindeck. On top of this it doesn't take much to push the list to 50% or more commonly-played Restricted cards, such as Brainstorm and Vampiric Tutor. So if another format gets that ability and hits a critical mass of Restricted cards, the feel is the format would become overly cohesive and only the actual win condition (Tinker-Colossus vs Oath-Atraxa vs Storm, for example) would be different.
i played this kind of deck during the open access and it seems like the endstep stop only works for ONE turn, then you have to remove and re-add it. :/
This reminds me of something extremely close to my first standard deck when I started grinding tournaments love this deck and watch sad opponent was always fun for me
Nexus goes back into your deck so you can't loop it, obviously. If it went to the grave you could flashback it or add it back to your hand (That may have been the dev's idea when making the card)
No it was designed to be a 1 of finisher in bad control decks that play creatures or planeswalkers that cant win on their own. Obviously creature lands do that job the best but it's nice to have some variation.... I guess
Haven't watched yet, but I have something to say: I love playing control. I love being stingy on wincons. I think people who are too impatient to play against control should quit whining. Big Teferi is one of my favorite Magic cards. Basically, I am "that guy". And you know what? Even I look at the dark days of Nexus with horror and revulsion. What a miserable card.
you are missing fogs in turbo fog deck. oko out one ring in. but the best card in the deck is tamiyo cant discard or sack and look nexus of fates really well
8:30 This is why I will NEVER spend real money on arena It’s not programmed well Also, you should have some snow covered lands in here, I’m surprised you missed that 🧙
ehm Arena still provides you with value? You wouldn't be playing it otherwise. Since you play it and since it gave you hundreds of hours of entertainment, it deserves your money. A one time 15$ fee for the Welcome Bundles is very fair. Or are you a parasite? Also, NO, no snow covered basics. There is no room whatsoever. The 3 fetchable "seek a nonland" gates are a must include. Then theres like 4 fetchable duals on the maybe list and like 3 utility lands. Snow covered basics arent even worth considering. DAFUQ
So Crim plays super friends bant control with Okos, Narsets and Teferis. And now you come with bant Nexus of Fate? xD Omg you guys are so evil. Love it
That glitch you had on Arena is one of the many, many reasons I stopped playing on the platform. It's just not fun when you plan out your turn and the game decides to do whatever it wants to do regardless of the settings you input.
The main reason this is the most hated card is that you don't win on the spot and you can fizzle so opponent can't just scoop when you start comboing, they have to wait in the off chance you fumble it.
You have to set stops before you cant do anything else, the animations arent accurate to what the game processes. To the program, as soon as you cant do anything else, it is already the next turn, even though the animations are still happening.
Field of the dead is probably too slow and fair, only if you want to try and run it as your only plan. Field was so strong that in standard just running field and explore/ramp effects would have been too good for most non-field decks to deal with. Field is probably the strongest plan B or incidental win con a deck can have.
Honestly they'd probably make a killing locking animations behind a pay wall. People love stuff like that in COD and other games that do that. Or rather, not love, but people go for it for sure
Wow! 👌 By the way. I highly recommend you play Duel commander format. 1 vs 1 with 20 life and 99 cards deck with commander. Banned sol ring, mana vault, jeweled lotus.
dafuq why Wilderness Rec is free on your turn, -4 mana on theirs. plus they untap to possibly counter it. Just the worst suggestion. I have a list of LITERALLY 20 cards that might make the cut which are better than Flash Leyline LMAO
All these broken cards were printed within 3 years of each other (and that's only because Nexus of Fate was printed in 2018). What a horrendous stretch for R&D.
I saw an opponent playing this deck earlier, I had a pretty decent fair start with some creatures and by the time they got the wilderness rec and 4 lands out they were dead on board but got a turn, I had a tishana's tidebinder in hand and since they had nothing on board I let them do 1 nexus since I wasn't sure what they were doing, I let them do 2 because they hadn't done anything and then I realized I should really just stifle the rec on endstep when they floated their mana and swing for lethal.
I swear the bugged nexus on purpose. It's nearly impossible to play. I needed to cast it 33 times every end step to not mill out in order to get my stupid win con out of my library and it wouldn't let me do it. It autopassed and ignored the full control on the second wilderness reclamation. OMG it makes it even worse for the opponent I'm so mad right now lol
Does the feels bad argument for restricted cards still hold up in a time when the most popular mtg format is a singleton format? Like if that really makes you feel bad idk how you ever play commander

I experienced this in the no ban historic event. You have to set the stop during each extra turn or else it'll just pass it. It's bad
Caught on camera! 36:05 "I mean, I can't help it, I like making opponents miserable!" - Seth 'SaffronOlive' Waterman
5:10 Can any modern or pioneer players explain why you would choose a dual cycling land over a triome? Not great with the format
Seth on his villain arc this month 😂
why did swordsing the drc make a meow sound at 22:20? xD 🐈
Companion reaction.
My Black Lotus just sits there and takes it if they destroy some of my stuff.
This reminds me of something extremely close to my first standard deck when I started grinding tournaments love this deck and watch sad opponent was always fun for me
"Elk the One Ring"
*new trauma intensifies along with disturbing flashbacks*
It still surprises me just how many of these cards were in standard together.
Match 1 game 2 you didn't have the foresight to fetch a second blue source 😅
I appreciate how Seth is always playing in the Bo3 ques
LOVE when you do field of the dead decks!!!!
Are there any decent replacement options for the Arena only digital cards in the sideboard which I refused to use let alone craft?
I'm wondering if beans would be worth it as a draw engine in this deck
Not even close.
Nexus goes back into your deck so you can't loop it, obviously. If it went to the grave you could flashback it or add it back to your hand
(That may have been the dev's idea when making the card)
No it was designed to be a 1 of finisher in bad control decks that play creatures or planeswalkers that cant win on their own.
Obviously creature lands do that job the best but it's nice to have some variation.... I guess
Just missing Veil of Summer for the board. Great content!
Nah theres a lot more wrong with this
Really want valakut, the molten pinnacle to come to arena. Need myself some titanshift action in timeless
Wild that a Standard 2019 deck is competitive in the Timeless format 😨
Plus Brainstorm and fetches and Supreme Verdict of course
Haven't watched yet, but I have something to say:
I love playing control. I love being stingy on wincons. I think people who are too impatient to play against control should quit whining. Big Teferi is one of my favorite Magic cards. Basically, I am "that guy".
And you know what? Even I look at the dark days of Nexus with horror and revulsion. What a miserable card.
Hot take: control with a 1-of wincon is just stax
What if you did this deck, but with gates too? Using the Nexus to force a Gates win?
you are missing fogs in turbo fog deck. oko out one ring in. but the best card in the deck is tamiyo cant discard or sack and look nexus of fates really well
Ah, I see you chose violence
56:14 Is that an Alex Bertoncini reference? lol
Seth is so getting coal for Christmas
8:30
This is why I will NEVER spend real money on arena
It’s not programmed well
Also, you should have some snow covered lands in here, I’m surprised you missed that 🧙
ehm
Arena still provides you with value?
Love it
Bright side be with you
This brings back memories
How did you avoid nonstop turn 1 thoughtseize? All I ever play against is rakdos
I think this is Seth's villain origin story
Seth was the villain all along, and we love him for it.
It's nice to see all these animations that current sets are missing.
I wish they would create them still even if closed behind gold/gems to unlock.
Honestly they'd probably make a killing locking animations behind a pay wall. People love stuff like that in COD and other games that do that. Or rather, not love, but people go for it for sure
Wow! 👌
By the way.
I highly recommend you play Duel commander format.
1 vs 1 with 20 life and 99 cards deck with commander.
Banned sol ring, mana vault, jeweled lotus.
I don't remember the last time I built this many seth played decks in a week, let alone decks in general, timeless kicks ass
Back when Nexus was Standard legal, I paired it with Sunbird's Invocation. Nexus, reveal another in the top 7, and good to go!
Seth has entered his villain arc.
Oko is a relatively clean answer to The One Ring, since you could always Elk them.
This is why I’ve been saying modern needs oko unbanned
Seth!! I have been dominating with a cats tribal deck. You think you could make a cool deck with something u haven't thought of
6:38 seth forgot nexus shuffled his deck haha
My dirty mind thought the worst of the phrase “salty ropes”
Seth: *casts Nexus of Fate and shuffles away Growth Spiral* "What happened to Growth Spiral?"
Would leyline of anticipation be to much of a stretch for this deck? Just for the wilderness rec?
dafuq why
Wilderness Rec is free on your turn, -4 mana on theirs. plus they untap to possibly counter it.
Just the worst suggestion. I have a list of LITERALLY 20 cards that might make the cut which are better than Flash Leyline LMAO
Is temur wilderness+explosion a thing?
i didn't see the podcast you mentioned but deathrite is definitely insane lol
Also this is the Magic deck equivalent of the Justin Wong “you’re gonna learn today, kid” video
These busted brews are the best, keep em coming!
All these broken cards were printed within 3 years of each other (and that's only because Nexus of Fate was printed in 2018). What a horrendous stretch for R&D.
“What happened to that growth spiral?” Loll
Playing Seth’s videos at x1.5 speed really helps with how kinda dull they are
I wish I could set my opponents to 1.5x. speed
6:40 You shuffled it away when you casted nexus of fate
