Seth taking down a #35 mythic with a budget ensoul deck warms my heart
Also while I understand the budget part is usually meant for paper, would have loved to see the shocks in the deck. The bad match ups might have been better with a solod mana base, and for arena it's all the same 'budget'
That guy must have lost an unbelievable amount of rank.
not including the shocks lessens the barrier of entry for the deck and gives it a pretty direct upgrade line. taking down the #35 mythic player without them is a way better way to sell people on the deck
I haven't played every day since release and I permanently have infinitely less rare/mythic wildcards so I have to be super conservative with how I use then. The budget is real.
Yeah, Steam Vents is just so expensive in paper, but it is a solid addition to the deck.
Was there a chance to win earlier in match 2 game two? When you traded vein rippers was there a chance to pump the drake by sacking your tokens? I know you can't at instant speed but wasn't there stuff in the stack or was I not watching closely enough

I play this deck and it's basically just this but with shocklands instead of spires, I think its just a normal tier 2 pioneer deck

Opponent has 10 power and he can block 7 damage by blocking Swiftspear with both creatures.
On his turn if he topdecks a Ensoul or Blast he wins.

Yeah he said he could soak up 4 but he could soak up 7. Not sure what he was talking about there.
Seth for some reason folds for any breeze. If it looks like he might lose he just gives up rather than seeing it through.
Trample only has to kill one of the blockers before it can assign damage to face
@@joeldavis4496 That's not how any of this works. The controller of an attacking creature with trample first assigns damage to the creature(s) blocking it. Once all those blocking creatures are assigned lethal damage, any excess damage is assigned as its controller chooses among those blocking creatures and the player, planeswalker, or battle the creature is attacking. You can't assign damage to face without assigning lethal damage to *all* blockers.

This list is literally 71 of the 75 of the current meta ensoul list, -1 island -4 spire +1 otawara +4 steam vents makes this a mtgo topping list
The match 1 was played so well. Seth is right that no need to take the 1% risk.
See I actually disagree. Joy must be a niche new thing, cause March isn’t a card waste not is playing. His first opponent G1 had no out. Shrapnel blast just closed it out. Plus make them have it anyways. And waste the cards in hand.

this "budget" ensoul artifact deck is actually the best Tier 1 deck in explorer/pioneer right now. just happens that the best deck in the format is relatively inexpensive
I think part of the reason this build is "budget" is that it's not running shocklands but I could be wrong

Pro Tip: Fry > Rending Volley. It snipes creatures and planeswalkers for one more dmg and one more mana.

I would trade out the pain lands for shocks. Steam vents are worth the investment.

22:40. Hold priotrity on blocks. Before damage crack the clue. Use the drawn card to crack the blood token. Double trigger on Geardrake for game.
More practice with this deck is neccessary.
Especially since there is a high reluctance to switch from control to aggro.

Why no Zoetic Glyph? I run that in mine and its very good. Helps by giving resiliency against removal heavy decks.

It is never wrong to use Ensoul Artifact on the Darksteel Citadel. Since the Ensoul gives you a 5/5 creature, both Turn Aside and Stubborn Denial are better options than Spell Pierce; if your primary concern is removal, then even Dispel will work. Why give the opponent an out by being able to pay 2? Since you are in Pionner and will likely have a 5/5 (or usually at least a 3/3), then even Spell Rupture is viable. There are simply so many options which are better than Spell Pierce, including Test of Talents. For defense, you are in blue/red, so Dive Down, Shore Up, or You See a Guard Approach.
Legion extruder is an insane card. It hurts me to see you taking it out vs all the midrange strats where it shines.

Its kinda like gruul boats, it can screw over certain playstyles but the vast majority of t1-t2 decks are equipped to handle it. I played the eidetic draw deck against it and scoop as soon as i see waste not lmao

It’s pretty well positioned against the meta right now. It runs 4 mainboard go blank which is good against phoenix, it has access to edicts which is great vs vampires and is basically a control deck with how much removal it has which makes it great vs amalia combo

It's a tier 2 deck that basically bullies a decent amount of tier 2 decks and any deck below that, but usually sputters against tier 1 decks.

tbh i really didnt understand the sequence of play there... he could have dropped a land and the siren, then next turn shrapnel to the face and attack with 4 creatures for 9 total damage.... like the line was so obvious to me...??
Because the opponent was on discard he kept it in his hand so he could discard it to a go blank rather than the cards that he needed.

Made this deck couple days ago and it was not 88$ lol.. I’m from Europe it costed me around 180€ including shippings
Cryptic Coat is just too slow. Zoetic Glyph is just always going to be faster and better. Swinging for 5 on turn 3 AND getting something back when it hits the yard cant be overstated in this type of deck.
First game, has the opportunity to ensoul t2, doesnt. Then for some readon chooses not to play a land t3. Why does this make me so frustrated?

Because it's a free 8th card
functionally a free 8th card every game in the event that it's relevant. Doesn't come up often but generally better than a 15th card in the sideboard. Modern domain does the same thing even though 8 mana for a 5/5 isn't normally good.

There really isn't a downside to running Jegantha, having a 61st card that you can always cast is worth giving up a sideboard slot
Im surprized you dont use prized statue, or lizard blades, once it's reconfigured it's a viable target for ensoul and has natural doublestrike.
Probably too slow to setup, dies really easily without adding anything extra to the board and doesn’t have evasion

Why no Darksteel Ingot? Or lotus petal? With petal it feasible to get out a more worthwhile artifact or creature that benefits from artifacts.
Plus having four Ingots and four citadel gives more indestructible targets for ensoul and more shrapnel targets. Junk jet is nice just saying.
Forgot, junk jet is UB but still gross in an unrestricted legacy casual ensoul/shrapnel deck.
