This is my favorite kind of Against the Odds deck: finding a cool card that's underappreciated and highlighting why it's awesome. I like all the vids, but to me, these are much more interesting than combo solitaire decks.
I’m kinda surprised to not see Drown in Ichor in this deck, -4/-4 and proliferating the wither damage seems like it could be really good, even at sorcery speed

I also think he should've played glistening deluge sooner instead of trying to just get value after casting Massacre Girl in that match. I would've casted it the turn before I opponent casted knight errant of eos

back in 93 when i first started playing MTG (it was just known as "magic" at that time), we didn't realize at clean up that damage fell off the creatures, so we tracked everything like it was withered. sure changed the game when we figuredm out it didn't work that way. all of a sudden my serra angels got a lot better.
I remember, on the playground, we used to be sure that you drew Yugioh cards until you had five in hand.
If any of us knew what we were doing, games would have been over very quickly.

Me and my brother started with the 7th edition starter box. Importent here is that the 2 decks presented in it had no swamps, the boosters that came with it had 2 black creatures in it and both lost you life when you played them. Long story short, for about a year we played black cards as if they had phyrexian mana for some reason.😅

As someone who loved the original and immediately built a brawl deck with the new Massacre Girl as a commander, I love to see others enjoying the card :)
Original massacre girl is always worth a consideration when building a edh deck for me. My main problem is that i play mostly token decks😅.
Massacre Girl (the original) is one of my favourite cards. I pulled it at my first draft when I began properly learning the game, it's such a unique sweeper and the promo card from that event was Bolas' Citadel so I loved the ideas those two cards made in my mind.
I made a Rakdos list with her that has been doing very well. Using Urabrask forge, Squee, Harried Spearman, and on to make normally easily blockable creatures more deadly. Also running Braids as extra value with those to sac, also fit in skeleton case, new sweeper, and Rakdos himself.
Bloodline Culling: *exists*
Boros Convoke players: *chuckles* I'm in danger.
kinda feel like beseech the mirror is being slept on here. you've got a decent amount of cards that make enchantments or tokens, it tutors up massacre girl so you can run less copies of her and/or cut the case, and it can also tutor Shelly to help with aggro
I love Wither so much, it's been one of my pet decks for a long time

Need the apple bite card and gumdrop poisoner I've been running it and it works so well and sacrificing the skeleton token to bargain the apple removal is songood
I know that German is a foreign language to Seth, but it really grates my ears to hear him say "totensan". Ignore the pronunciation - it's "toten TANZ", not "san".
It definitely doesn't help how long the Japanese set has been in standard + the Germanic/European folklore set being immediately followed by the Aztec/Central American mythology set. Like he already struggles with more common words/card names, at least he gets close with some of them.

The historic play of meathook massacre, and toxic deluge, with massacre girl, is amazing. Although I believe toxic deluge isn't on arena. Timeless this deck. I dare you...

I love seeing Bloodline Culling get some love. I play it in my high power Glissa the Traitor EDH deck. It pairs so nicely with Forbidden Orchard.
The first Deck I played in MTG was in MTGA with Massacre Girl. She's been my favorite card ever since. Gotta love it.
New massacre girl is one of my favorite cards in recent years. Same with doppelgang. So much fun to be had! 😊
Yeah, I've been playing a slightly modified version of his doppelgang deck in historic and I've loved it so much.

Surprised Seth wasn’t running Vein Ripper as like a two of in the sideboard for the slower matchups. Seems spicy with so much stuff dying. 6 mana is a lot though
i threw it at the top of the curve in golgari, especially with vigilant creatures like rookie and sentinel! its super strong with that heavy creature curve

if you're going to play with Wither, say "Minus One" instead of "Negative One" it saves a LOT of time in the long run.

No lie I’ve been watching you since I started playing in middle school when you were recording with no face cam and I’m still tapping in nowadays, and I’m almost a senior in college. Keep doing you man, just know you’re making some ppl’s days out there cause you sure make mine a bit easier when I watch them
All that draw and no Sheoldred? I mean, I know it's overly used and expected for a black deck, but the combo would be devastating.

Having two 4 mana creatures is a little awkward, especially when trying to keep them on the battlefield with the insane amount of removal in standard, often you just wouldn't have enough time. Also, what would you cut?
I am unimpressed by Case of the Stashed Skeleton. Was cool to see Massacre Girl in action.
Also, with Massacre Girl on the field fight and bite spells will put -1/-1 counters on stuff. Considering she's a 4/4 it might be worth thinking about.
I was one of the people trash talking Bloodline Culling online- I will say that drawing cards with it makes it a lot better, and I had just run into too many games where my opponent played two or three Warleader's Calls....

awesome deck. on historic, putting the two massacre girl should be hell of a fun, including massacre wurm.
I think putting some cards that brings back massacre girl like undying malice in the sideboard might be a good pick to fight against removal
I played Life of Toshiro in a Glissa deck to fill my two drop spot between Tenacious Pup and Glissa. I played it initially just to have a two cost creature that wasn't cast, so it didn't trigger the Pup's boon. It turned out to be one of the most useful cards in the deck. It's particularly great when you can snipe mana dorks with it on turns 2 & 3 and throw off mono green's ramp plan.
Massacre girl + gix have some pretty cool synergy. You either block my creature, trade, and I draw a card, or you don't block and I draw a card anyways. Gix also curves nicely as a 3 drop.
Seth was incorrect in Game 5. You Don't block, *Massacre Girl* lives, you sweep next turn & refill.
I was thinking this. He said "we couldn't not block" - but why? MG was blocking a 1/1; if it gets through that's only a single point of damage and you're taking getting wrecked by Eiganjo completely off the table.
Sometimes it's correct not to block *just in case* - I had a game yesterday where my opponent attacked into my Sanctum Weaver with Shambling Ghast; no way I was blocking that when cards like Deadly Dispute are so common alongside the Ghast. Sure it meant taking an extra point of damage, but that downside was easily counteracted by the upside of not getting blown out by something my opponent could easily have.
Dude I heard him say that and facepalmed so hard 🤦♂️ Yes…you can not block! Glad I wasn’t the only one.
What I learned from this is that case is just a bad card becasue the skeleton cannot block and a 4 mana tutor with hoops is just too slow.
I think of the case as a 2 mana 2/1 with menace that disincentives your opponent from killing it, not a tutor for you combo
Ive been wondering if Night Clubber could be good un a Massacre Girl deck. -1/-1 and a body seems ok, but only in a niche deck like this

Very recently made an EDH deck that's basically -1/-1 Counters Tribal that I call "Mass-Wither Girl." Massacre Gill makes all the creatures put out counters, the spells put out counters, tech in Necroskitter to reanimate the death triggers that are drawing me cards, lots of Proliferate so that even one block can end up being deadly, and even a The Ozolith because they're counters and it doesn't have to go on your creatures.
Most importantly though, Serrated Arrows with the Proliferate to be able to repeatedly refill my Arrowhead counters. No one should ever have 5+ counters on that card.
59:00 ish, you use Umezawa to pick off your skeleton and then tutor but idk if there's a board wipe in your deck that could save you even after that

I think bloodline culling would be decent if it was 2B instead but as is there's just better removal unless you're specifically using it for the synergy with massacre girl. That being said with her it seems great and I'm definitely gonna make this deck because I love massacre girl!

Ive been playing massacre girl in one of my historic decks that is based around hapatra vizier of poisons. I run hapatra, yawgmoth, nest of scarabs and and zulapart cuthroat to give a -1 counter via yawgmoth, create a 1/1 deathtouch from hapatra and a 1/1 from nest, draw a card, and zulaport gains me one and opponent loses 1 because i have to sac. So i kill off everything my opponent has at instant speed via yawgmoth and then go infinite because whenever a creature gets a -1 counter i create 2 creatures
i made a rakdos historic deck that is pretty fun. goblin chain whirler, goblin arsonist, and forge devil. a little mechanized warfare on top.
i have one doubt, now im watching this, how the interaction of wither works against damage prevent, like the 4 W 5/5 phyrexian horror that prevent damage and redirect, if wither does hurt with -1/-1 counters, how this interaction works which one like win?

I play a similar deck but with witches vanity, sheoldred, gix, drown in ichor, and candy grapple....I'm gonna try it this way
I feel like you could make an interesting combo with her and Forerunner of the Empire (or any mass pinger). I don't know enough cards to support it, but with something to prevent your creatures getting -1's like Melira, Sylvok Outcast; and I feel like with this many important non-dinos youd have to have maskwood nexus so you don't need dinos you could make it work- but feels like it'd be way mana heavy and super disruptable. Still, feel like something cool (if weak) could be made

I think blocking with girl in that last game was a punt. You had to hold it back and force them to the fox. So you can sweep that fox too.

The counter they might draw if Seth took the greedier line of passing and hoping they put more tokens to the board before he cast his sweeper (e.g., from the Wedding Announcement trigger, if nothing else). Casting it now plays around a top deck Make Disappear or whatever, guaranteed to resolve precisely because Seth can see their whole hand.
I have always been a fan of the original Massacre Girl, but this one is much better. This deck is SWEET!

Not in standard, but would Night of Souls Betrayal be good? Opponents who play those go-wide token decks would just be feeding Massacre Girl cards.
At 11:20, why did Seth not draw any cards?
It's because Preacher has deathtouch. It assigns one damage to each token, killing both. But since only 1 wither damage was dealt, while both tokens have 2 toughness, they're technically at 1/1 when they die and therefore don't qualify for Massacre Girl's effect.

The fact that Seth is 98% Mythic in constructed constantly playing Against the Odds style decks makes me wonder what would happen if he truly played full power tier 1 decks and joined the try-hard pact with Richard and Crim
Getting into Mythic at the very least is a matter of attrition more-so than anything else, it isn’t very hard at all. Staying in Mythic/continuing to rank up past that is pretty much the only point at which you actually need a good deck.

Richard and Crim don't really play good decks though. Richard isn't even on the channel and Crim just plays vaguely synergistic jank plus whatever removal fits.
Seth definitely plays better decks and plays better than Crim, except the decks that are pretty much intentionally bad

I do not understand why you played into eiganjo in that last game. You talked about it beforehand, mentioned it would blow you out if they had it, then exposed your massacre girl to it... to save 1 point of life? while you were going to 11? Then afterwards you acted like "well I had to play into it" but you gained almost nothing for your line.
It seems like he blocked to try and prevent some minor Zephyr value (blocking the Token so they can't bounce the attacker). Even though he mentions Eiganjo as a possibility, it seems like he immediately dismisses it in his decisionmaking because he sees the Flash creatures in hand and chose to minimize their value instead
Basically, he put undue value on blocking in that moment and misplayed into a punish he should've avoided entirely. Just a normal misplay that was definitely wrong, I wouldn't put too much stock into his feeling that he had to block lol, it's normal to have an instinctual play pattern that fails you sometimes when you don't think things all the way through. Everyone is guilty of it

It's productive to look for mistakes in other people's gameplay, so that you become better at avoiding them in your own games. That's all I was doing.

It's Totentanz ,pronounced something like "toten tans" not totenzan. Means "dance of the dead"
