You know what’s currently a stupidly broken feature? The AAA around the mini-bases at lower tiers. It’s so stupidly accurate and powerful that if you’re not staying far away from them or bombing the base at very high altitude, you get torn to shreds in about 10 seconds flat

The fact that you can get pretty much get one tapped if you have a low vitality crew, which pretty much every player will at that BR from 5 km ABOVE it is insane.
To be honest, I'd love to see them develop the bomber aspect in War Thunder. Bring some of those fancy Cold War bombers into the game. A lot of the top tier jets are designed as interceptors, would be nice to have them actually perform as intended.
@@tinyzinc7344 Wikipedia is a good place. The radar in question was the AN/APG-15 fire-control radar, but even without it, the B-29 still had devices designed to account for the movement of the bomber, the plane, and the distance. For its time it was remarkably advanced.

You can blame the JU288 for making the non-stop respawns for bases because they used to end matches within minutes even before fighters got into the air.
We really gotta stop blaming the planes or the people that play them. It's not the JU288's fault, it's Gaijin's fault for making game modes and planes that are easily cheesed. It may be difficult to balance, but it's still their job to do it in such a way that doesn't ruin the game over one plane.

I think the final nail for bombing bases and the AF to end the game was the release of the F-4 phantom, everyone would just spawn in, load a full set of bombs, and end the game in about a minute
Hot take: I actually somewhat like the fact the bases respawn the reason being that my internet is terrible so I'm basically always the last one to spawn meaning that I can't even get to a base and destroy it if they are already gone and the only thing left is to attack the air field but by that point it's basically meaningless because either your entire team of bombers is dead so you can't really do anything to the airfield to destroy it and because you can't destroy it you don't really even get any rewards for it. But with how they constantly respond now even those bombers that are lagging behind they still have a chance to get som SL and Rp.
Bombers are free kills, they do nothing to help your team. Giving them the match ending ability of bombing the AF gave them purpose, and gave fighters something else to do rather than dogfight.

So the QN506 can basically do what its actually supposed to be able to do IRL but on accident. The landing pad on it is for an actual drone that's supposedly able to lock targets and fire the missiles without even exposing a little bit of the tank
Still the most op method of getting huge adventage was setting your game to lowest possible options. Bushes from far away were gone, almost whole maps just plain terrain and you see tanks moving there. Easy as hell

I remembered one time that attackers from rank VI and up had air spawn and it’s broken. It made almost every attacking jet op. As a Su 7 BMK pilot from the day the jet was released, i used this to bomb or take down fighters. Harriers were terrifying back then. Players used this to get quick victories. Gaijin removed air spawn form high ranks. Now, Powercreep just ruins 8.3-10.3 BR because an Aim 9L missile was coming to yeet your ass right off and no countermeasures to save you. The introduction of the A-10 at 9.7 was the beginning of powercreep (Everyone thought it was bad, but it was better than people thought).
The most fun i have with it now is shooting down enemy missiles with my own missiles Though thats more out of neccesity than anything else, given the fact that it has no flares 🥺
During that time of the T-2K's dominance I decided to abuse the Air Simulator Battles rewards system but not in an exploitive sort of way. This was self-deprecating and self-sabotage. I had the MiG-19 grinded out shortly after release with the talisman'd MiG-17, but it was bone stock so I opt into fly my Tu-4 against T-2K and was shot down so many times by the same guy (who was also using ESP in EC Air Sim) that I had lost all of my over 700,000 SL in that one match and was in at -30,000 sl in the hangar. I then forced myself to play biplanes in arcade until I could recoup the cost.
6:41, similiarily, Whirlwind P.9 and the regular tech tree version, both at 3.7, get an airspawn, climbrate comparable to XP50, which itself is 4.0 i believe, and has 4x 20mm guns centrally mounted, so it shreds everything. about a month ago i played 4 air RB battles with it and has 15 kills..
I remember when that thing came out, singe handedly ruining that br at the time I just happened to be grinding it. You'd see three in space all winning the game
My favorite feature was during the sturmtiger event where you had to stop waves of vechiles with sturmtiger and pack guns if you rammed a Sherman you could actually make it spin like a helicopter for a period of time
As someone who has put almost 24 hours into the T-2 recently, if you know not to fly asleep at the wheel and have pitch up as a keybind, it is totally possible to survive against most AAM you’ll find at its BR, and even at a full up tier
That change about the bombers is honestly what was requested for a VERY LONG TIME. There was a time it was a constant spam of Yer-2 bombers who would END match in a matter of mere minutes
The B7A2 Homare 23 is my favorite example of aircraft that can abuse the airspawn and I'm surprised you didn't mention it. It can literally abuse airspawn more, because it has a bomber spawn, yet can also act like a decent fighter. It climbs pretty fine without bombs, it turns like crazy and has a good amount of horsepower. Literally if a B7A2 holds the altitude, it can easily rampage around if not taken care of.
i especially love when in arcade battles my tiger 2 gets bombed by an A-10 because oh i guess they were made at the same time and it was common for tigers to face warthogs
The whole “spawn in the sky due to categorization” is kinda busted when using mid tier Germany because many planes are categorized as strike aircraft even though the description barely fits

The J5N1 is one of the interceptors that gets an air spawn and its quite satisfying to be able to smack the enemy bombers before the fighters even arrive or gain a 1000 - 2000 meter advantage
I love that you can reload Torpedoes in Naval EC when its Realistic and firing too. Just get the Front or Back of your Ship 1m into the Harbor so the Launchers are outside of the Torpedonets. Works really good with 15-20km Torps . You can use Planes up to 7.0 there too. My Record with the B-29 was around 160 Tons of Basedamage 😁

Yay forget to metion that T-2 when it was introduced it came with an early arcade-style version of radar-assisted ballistic computer that tell you the gun lead when locking onto an enemy. This feature is quickly getting rid of.
as an old school bomber specialist(79 days), I made my SL fortune ( 115 million SL) ruining other people's games using a Ju288 ( & the A26c, still OP IMHO) . The changes to balance this were unfair on the other bombers. killing an AF proved to the fighters only jocks, that bombers were contributing to the win.
Bombing the Airfield was fun but also kinda bullshit because the F222 (The nearly reserve french bomber) has a big enough bomb load that 4 of them were able to end the game, at a low enough BR that not only could most planes never climb high enough to touch you, but you faced such low level players that they could never counter it
just like the t-2, The MBT-70 and KPZ-70, were the first true cold war era mbt tanks added to the game. it got to a point where, they faced them selves and every single map had to be rebalanced and scaled for the mobility of the mtb-70/kpz. tank acceleration was lower across the board back then, so it took a minute or two to get where the action was. Not for the MBT-70. so everybody in there top tier ww2 tanks got slammed when they had to face discarding sabots, heatfs, and tanks driving to the opposite side of the map within 1 min of the game starting. there wasnt enough cold war era tanks at the time to saturate top tier. its also the reason they made bigger maps in the future and slowly took all the vanilla maps out of high tier game play. i remember getting dumped by these things in my tiger 2. On the note of the bombing airfields to end the game. back in the early stages of ground RB, the same mechanic was in there. with enough players to help you, or enough time to do it youself, you could end a ground rb match by destroying thier airfield spawn. not to many players caught attention to this. so you didnt have to worry about players shooting you down as much as they do in air RB.

Why would anyone use it as a bomber? It has one 800Kg bomb at best and no bomb sight. It would make more sense as a ground attack aircraft than a bomber, though I guess just calling it a fighter works too.
Funny thing is the QN505 is supposed to be able to get a use a drone to also lock the weapons. Gaijin just refuses to add the rotor drone and the unique feature of the QN506.
Considering the way Gaijin models drones they are completely invincible to anything without a proximity fuse, this is a good thing. QNs would just be camping on the nearest cap spamming missiles at everything on the map and if you aren't one of the luck few countries to have a usable source of HE-VT there is nothing you could do about it.
On bombers, I think Air RB in general is a mess and needs a complete overhaul, especially at top tier which is what the majority of my points will be aimed at. - There needs to be a reworking of rewards as they aren't specialised, so fighters can bomb bases and still get the same rewards as bombers - bombers can also get the same rewards as fighters for eliminating enemies. This is counter-productive and is the reason why you see Phantoms rushing off to bomb bases instead of fighting. - They need to bring back air spawns at higher tiers - more specifically for EC and other large maps. - They need to encourage players to go higher than 10 feet above the trees. Perhaps by using airspawns at high altitude. - There needs to be more map variety as almost all the maps are just a big open sky with a different texture colour on the ground. Some exceptions like Kamchatka and Rocky Pillars which are new maps. - They also need to reduce the matchmaking BR range from 1.0 or either 0.7 or 0.3. There are too many complete mismatches at higher tiers due to rapid technology advancements - The Mirage IIIC is a great example of this, it's 10.3 with no counter-measures...
Well I know for sure that on some maps you can still destroy the airfield. Essen, Sicily, Pacific Hidden Base, one version of Mozdok that I forget the name of, Fjords (I think), Guiana Highlands, Naro-Fominsk, and Greenridge.

Honestly, bombers nowadays are mostly grind planes Air RB has this problem, bombers in matches depending on what Gaijin decides are either useless and wasted team slots or whatever the enemy team ends up doing during the match doesn't matter. Tickets on most matches are a useless mechanic because what ends up happening is that one team kills all the other team players and that's it. But sometimes a lone player or two decide they don't want to die or leave, so they stay at a safe spot for them. This is the true purpose of tickets, shitty ground vehicles you can kill with whatever gun you have on your plane so you can bleed the enemy tickets until they reach 0 or gets you a win when the match is over But the thing is, there isn't always that option because whatever is in the ground might be too tough for your guns and then you're screwed, because if the people doing this are bombers, they destroyed your bases and now you're in a ticket disadvantage There used to be a mechanic which consisted on a lot of small enemy vehicles spawning in the same place somewhere near the enemy airfield, so you could basically go and kill them to end the match. But at the same time, you could grab a bomber, go really high, wait a ton of time, idk how long it used to take, but around 20-30 min, then bomb the vehicles and win the match, so that wasn't a solution either The main problem is, planes should just fight to the death and that's it, but you just can't force that. iirc now airfield protections are disabled when only one plane is left, and the general area of the last plane is revealed in the map It's just a troublesome matter that hasn't an easy solution, but at least in top tier that is less likely due to missiles and the limitations of fuel consumption on afterburner I deviated from the original topic, but yeah, bombers should be shit in this game, that's always better than them being op

I have been a bomber main since I started I have been playing for 5 years and still love to play my b17s and b29s. And slowly I watched almost all maps with bombable bases disappear I hate it now and it genuinely makes me sad because I had 2 relatives flying b17s during the war but I can’t live that on if I don’t want to play bombers if the the base bombing sucks. Gaijin please fix , please
What i hate about the Wyvern, its when i was against or with them, they will rush an enemy base, destroy it, and let themselves killed by the enemy or just simply leave the game. They were like the same players that do the same with the Ju 288 c but at a much lower BR.
Fortunately, at least in my experience, Wyverns are not a very common plane. Except during events where most of every match with Britain at about that BR is Wyverns doing exactly what you describe.
Minibases are annoying for me. It used to be that bombers were an actual threat if you just ignored them so it would force some players in good interceptors to not enter the fight in order to hunt down bombers. I also remember when the R2Y2 was absolutely a menace. The only things that weren't at its mercy were players who knew what was going to happen and Me-163s. I miss Historical matches a lot, it's no fun for me fighting a bunch of Russians over the skies of the Pacific.
The rockets dont seem to want to act like flares from my experience, and the t2 still doesnt have its old radar lead indicator, so i wouldnt say its better than before (especially with all aspect missiles that its fighting)

Yes and no. Most of those cold war bombers were moving away from defensive weapons. So depending on how far they go you could become a sitting duck.
The B-29 had radar specifically so the gunners could shoot accurately, but it’s not modeled in WT so the B-29 just suffers.

The afterburner can actually be adjusted anywhere between 101 to 110% and can give really solid control over thrust and especially fuel consumption

The jet afterburner trick works on some prop planes, too! It keeps you from overheating from full on WEP instead.

It climbs pretty fine without bombs, it turns like crazy and has a good amount of horsepower. Literally if a B7A2 holds the altitude, it can easily rampage around if not taken care of.

The J5N1 is one of the interceptors that gets an air spawn and its quite satisfying to be able to smack the enemy bombers before the fighters even arrive or gain a 1000 - 2000 meter advantage
I love that you can reload Torpedoes in Naval EC when its Realistic and firing too. Just get the Front or Back of your Ship 1m into the Harbor so the Launchers are outside of the Torpedonets. Works really good with 15-20km Torps . You can use Planes up to 7.0 there too. My Record with the B-29 was around 160 Tons of Basedamage 😁

with the WEP exploit, some planes will actually display 101% or 102% and the letters will be red, and if you scroll further it will go to WEP

Yay forget to metion that T-2 when it was introduced it came with an early arcade-style version of radar-assisted ballistic computer that tell you the gun lead when locking onto an enemy. This feature is quickly getting rid of.

as an old school bomber specialist(79 days), I made my SL fortune ( 115 million SL) ruining other people's games using a Ju288 ( & the A26c, still OP IMHO) . The changes to balance this were unfair on the other bombers. killing an AF proved to the fighters only jocks, that bombers were contributing to the win.

Bombing the Airfield was fun but also kinda bullshit because the F222 (The nearly reserve french bomber) has a big enough bomb load that 4 of them were able to end the game, at a low enough BR that not only could most planes never climb high enough to touch you, but you faced such low level players that they could never counter it

Snail did that when the F-111 was added. the respawn timer went from like 60 seconds to 5 minutes. Might even be higher

It makes for some super fun gameplay imo, you can just full auto in the packs of clueless enemies
just like the t-2, The MBT-70 and KPZ-70, were the first true cold war era mbt tanks added to the game. it got to a point where, they faced them selves and every single map had to be rebalanced and scaled for the mobility of the mtb-70/kpz. tank acceleration was lower across the board back then, so it took a minute or two to get where the action was. Not for the MBT-70. so everybody in there top tier ww2 tanks got slammed when they had to face discarding sabots, heatfs, and tanks driving to the opposite side of the map within 1 min of the game starting. there wasnt enough cold war era tanks at the time to saturate top tier. its also the reason they made bigger maps in the future and slowly took all the vanilla maps out of high tier game play. i remember getting dumped by these things in my tiger 2.
On the note of the bombing airfields to end the game. back in the early stages of ground RB, the same mechanic was in there. with enough players to help you, or enough time to do it youself, you could end a ground rb match by destroying thier airfield spawn. not to many players caught attention to this. so you didnt have to worry about players shooting you down as much as they do in air RB.

I remember the R2Y2 golden age. Nobody actually used it as a bomber but new players who needed to upgrade it.
Why would anyone use it as a bomber? It has one 800Kg bomb at best and no bomb sight. It would make more sense as a ground attack aircraft than a bomber, though I guess just calling it a fighter works too.

Funny thing is the QN505 is supposed to be able to get a use a drone to also lock the weapons. Gaijin just refuses to add the rotor drone and the unique feature of the QN506.
Considering the way Gaijin models drones they are completely invincible to anything without a proximity fuse, this is a good thing. QNs would just be camping on the nearest cap spamming missiles at everything on the map and if you aren't one of the luck few countries to have a usable source of HE-VT there is nothing you could do about it.

On bombers, I think Air RB in general is a mess and needs a complete overhaul, especially at top tier which is what the majority of my points will be aimed at.
- There needs to be a reworking of rewards as they aren't specialised, so fighters can bomb bases and still get the same rewards as bombers - bombers can also get the same rewards as fighters for eliminating enemies. This is counter-productive and is the reason why you see Phantoms rushing off to bomb bases instead of fighting.
- They need to bring back air spawns at higher tiers - more specifically for EC and other large maps.
- They need to encourage players to go higher than 10 feet above the trees. Perhaps by using airspawns at high altitude.
- There needs to be more map variety as almost all the maps are just a big open sky with a different texture colour on the ground. Some exceptions like Kamchatka and Rocky Pillars which are new maps.
- They also need to reduce the matchmaking BR range from 1.0 or either 0.7 or 0.3. There are too many complete mismatches at higher tiers due to rapid technology advancements - The Mirage IIIC is a great example of this, it's 10.3 with no counter-measures...
You won't see people flying high in top tier as long you can defeat sarh missiles by flying low

Well I know for sure that on some maps you can still destroy the airfield. Essen, Sicily, Pacific Hidden Base, one version of Mozdok that I forget the name of, Fjords (I think), Guiana Highlands, Naro-Fominsk, and Greenridge.

Honestly, bombers nowadays are mostly grind planes
Air RB has this problem, bombers in matches depending on what Gaijin decides are either useless and wasted team slots or whatever the enemy team ends up doing during the match doesn't matter.
Tickets on most matches are a useless mechanic because what ends up happening is that one team kills all the other team players and that's it.
But sometimes a lone player or two decide they don't want to die or leave, so they stay at a safe spot for them. This is the true purpose of tickets, shitty ground vehicles you can kill with whatever gun you have on your plane so you can bleed the enemy tickets until they reach 0 or gets you a win when the match is over
But the thing is, there isn't always that option because whatever is in the ground might be too tough for your guns and then you're screwed, because if the people doing this are bombers, they destroyed your bases and now you're in a ticket disadvantage
There used to be a mechanic which consisted on a lot of small enemy vehicles spawning in the same place somewhere near the enemy airfield, so you could basically go and kill them to end the match. But at the same time, you could grab a bomber, go really high, wait a ton of time, idk how long it used to take, but around 20-30 min, then bomb the vehicles and win the match, so that wasn't a solution either
The main problem is, planes should just fight to the death and that's it, but you just can't force that. iirc now airfield protections are disabled when only one plane is left, and the general area of the last plane is revealed in the map
It's just a troublesome matter that hasn't an easy solution, but at least in top tier that is less likely due to missiles and the limitations of fuel consumption on afterburner

I have been a bomber main since I started I have been playing for 5 years and still love to play my b17s and b29s. And slowly I watched almost all maps with bombable bases disappear I hate it now and it genuinely makes me sad because I had 2 relatives flying b17s during the war but I can’t live that on if I don’t want to play bombers if the the base bombing sucks. What i hate about the Wyvern, its when i was against or with them, they will rush an enemy base, destroy it, and let themselves killed by the enemy or just simply leave the game. They were like the same players that do the same with the Ju 288 c but at a much lower BR.
Fortunately, at least in my experience, Wyverns are not a very common plane. Except during events where most of every match with Britain at about that BR is Wyverns doing exactly what you describe.

Minibases are annoying for me. It used to be that bombers were an actual threat if you just ignored them so it would force some players in good interceptors to not enter the fight in order to hunt down bombers. I also remember when the R2Y2 was absolutely a menace. The only things that weren't at its mercy were players who knew what was going to happen and Me-163s. I miss Historical matches a lot, it's no fun for me fighting a bunch of Russians over the skies of the Pacific.

Well the T-2 is a lot more capable now with the AIM-9Js, and with rockets as mock flares.... it's pretty damn good
The rockets dont seem to want to act like flares from my experience, and the t2 still doesnt have its old radar lead indicator, so i wouldnt say its better than before (especially with all aspect missiles that its fighting)
