Corrections:
15:48 New year smoke was given out for 30 enemies destroyed not twitch drops. It turns out Twitch drops had happened recently before (26th Nov 2020) new year smoke was unlockable (23rd Dec 2020) and because tri-colour smoke was actually given out through twitch drops I mis-remembered and got this wrong. Bringing back a flexible D point would actually be such a good idea to counter those matches where 1 team gets absolutely stomped. Make it so that it takes down like half the remaining tickets of the enemy or something, so that a losing team with few tickets doesn't lose too much but a winning team with loads of tickets does.
Attack the D point!
Unfortunately, it can't be balanced due to it being more one-sided. If a team is not losing, but they still get the D point on their side, they still get a big advantage. The game is already short anyways with tickets depleting too quick in my opinion, so we really don't need something like that.

Just a little side note, the jungle map is supposed to be on the island of Guadalcanal as the full map includes markings for Henderson field and lunga point
One of the wierdest things that happened to me in WT was when I was playing the A6M5 Ko on Iwo Jima, we killed the entire enemy team except for 1 player and than we activated a blind hunt and an avenger order after that but he still didn`t get spoted..... after some 10 mins we sudenly found him going for our Airfield and took him out. When I went to look in the replay from that player perspective it didnt work and it showed like he despawned only for it to work 30 mins later at the end of the game.... Probably one of the spookiest WT experiences.
Doesn't the replays work like that? They only record your POV. When you attempt to watch other player's point of view, they pop in and out of existence, where you could physically see them from your point of view in the actual game. Other player's vehicles are not kept rendered at all times to save your machine's resources.
It's weird, tho, that the Order didn't reveal him for you.
@@Nicitel94 Never knew that< I thought they recorded all of the players POV, being that you can switch to an enemy POV at the start of the battle before he was spotted. Thanks for the knowledge
@@dantunsoiu7177 Well there are two kinds of replays the server replays normally found in the game end screen or in the battle tab at the bottom right of the hanger to look at what the server saw or the replay tab to see your clients replays
U have 2 replays, the client ready in ur WT game, and in gaijin site there's the server replay, that one indeed let's u see everything of everyone's POV, so u saw the client replay wich only shows the enemy when he's spotted, u should have seen the server replay

I remember back in the day the clouds looked really epic and then we got an update which made the clouds look worse than playstation 1 graphics lol. Only just recently Gaijin restored the cloud graphics back.
On move settings I think the current game can look fairly similar
War thunder used to be super cinematic, and its just gorgeous on movie settings.
its different post processing/removal of nuclear sun, they changed this quite a while ago since one side would nearly always have a sun in their eyes against another side that couldn't see shit. you can still make it look fairly similar if you tweak your post processing enough.

I really do hope James is doing alright, great video, perfect thing to cheer me up.
In recent months I'd been seeing a lot of players with similar weird looking, grammatically incorrect German names. They didn't look like terms the average Wehraboo would go for but very definitely like they were randomly generated, and always had the same format. I could imagine those were bot players, too (maybe to auto-grind for the summer event)

@@munastronaut8147 EDIT: I checked my browser history and found one example from when I was googling for forum posts someone else might have made about it. It was "stark_treiben" and admittedly I could see this particular one being used by an actual German person as innuendo, but it still looks kinda weird.
I can't quite remember any single one clearly cuz I never bothered writing them down or anything but they were always the plain dictionary form of a given adjective + an infinitive verb.
What first made me notice the pattern is that no one who understands the language would use the plain dictionary form of the adjective without grammatical endings (at least not by mistake) and no one who didn't know the language would normally think of picking the specific words being used for those names because they were sometimes kinda obscure and generally unremarkable in meaning. Also I think none of them ever had additional numbers or symbols in their names.
Before thinking they were bots I assumed it was just a weird trend among some players maybe, but it was very reminiscent of how file hosting services sometimes use randomly generated words instead of numbers to name items.

Honestly, I love these hidden lore videos of war Thunder… as a veteran player having played since March 2014, I’ve experienced a lot and it’s always amazing to relive some of these nuggets of lost war Thunder… love the good work! Can’t wait for more!
just a few things of what i can remember. 17:27 the old tech tree was a bit crazy. you needed to get a level with the nation as well as a level with ur profile to get some aircraft. There was also a massive range for planes to fight against. I remember you could get stuck into 6.7 games with the German jets in your like 4.3 russian props. 18:57 also the D point would spawn extra AI ground units for you team on Carpathians back when that map had AI. They would spawn from the west side in the big open area. I remember back in the day all the AI tanks were like snipers and would give away your position in bushes because they could always see you lol.
God this video is a Rollercoaster of emotions. You got the funny Ki-10 (my beloved) and then sudden shifts to a man with a family, as well as the actual people of our profile pictures.
Shows how much this game means to us, despite how bad this game is.

I actually had a last man standing in a tiger 2 and got 5 more kills with one crew while holding down the A point on Berlin, I absolutely loved that mechanic.

i hope James is doing ok. i am not sure if he got his IS7, or if his Wife is still alive, but i still wish the man all the best. having gotten Cancer myself, i can say for certain that the hardest part about having it isnt the treatments that have a VERY slim chance of working, but seeing those around me try and endure the pain of the loss slowly creeping up on them, day after day...

One of my fondest memory was fighting a Sabre with my Mc 202. Didn't remember winning but we chased it around the whole match.
I quit about a few years back around the time it crossed over to cold war / modern. I remembered how Gaijin said they will not go modern lol.

This video is convincing me to start playing War Thunder, but whenever I ask friends if I should get it, they tell me they regret ever starting
For bots the best explanation is Xp farm/event farm/silver lion farm, you might find them often on naval battle and during any grind event. Apparently you could buy these "hack" on certain websites and it's pretty hard to get banned. These bot are not much of a threat since they are pretty dumb edit:unless they are your teamates

there used to be a glitch which allowed you to fly the DC-3/Li-2 and Ju-52 on test flights. Their flight models are quite strange and they were very hard to control, constantly trying to nosedive into the ground
User missions for the V1 doodlebug too!
User missions used to be can fly any planes even you don't unlock it yet, only cons is cockpit disabled, good old times to fly F-86, Mig-15 and Ho229
You forgot one thing. For some time, I think in the update where the T-64 and KPz were added, we had dynamic weather. That was a pretty nice addition.

I remember last man standing very well, and GOD I LOVED THAT FEATURE. I thought it was amazing personally, I hated getting “one tapped” when the tank had for all intents and purposes complete functionality but the only hang up was one man alive. Sure it was a pain to move around and all that blah but it gave an opportunity to still get that last breath of defiance before going out, and with crew replenishment it could’ve been in an even better place, because there is that slim slim slim chance to escape and get one more man in for a chance to get back into the fight for real and for vehicles with 2 and 3 man crews it just made it possible to actually stay in the fight if you got MG’d
I feel like they can't keep event vehicles exclusive to specific events for ever. Given that the 10th anniversary is around the corner it really puts into perspective how long ago some of these events happened.

Its always a nice suprise to play on Vossenack since im working closeby and often enought i drive trough the town. However apart from some resemblance it seems the map has been "balanced" by Gaijin and is only somewhat accurate - at least to the town that is there nowadays. Thinking about open up a reddit post with some ingame and rl comparison.

Apart from the Ki-10-II the Gladiator also was a Helicopter originally, at least until you ran out of WEP in AB. And to this day I'm still annoyed I lost 2 SM.79, 2 SB-2M and 2 Yers when they changed to the tiered research 😂

12:15. Air Simulator battles ahve had "full" damage models for many years, as seen on the Air RB E.C. maps.
They used to have "basic health" models roughtly 1 year befor the Helicopters where added into the game. (my dates are mainly a guess and I don't fully remember).
I own the S204, it’s functionally the same as the S100 and only differs in decals and slightly enlarged rear gun shield

You made it sound like our WW2 vets are all gone at the end. There's a few. But they are still sharp and kicking! Ever since I played birds of steel then went to war thunder, I've always wondered if a WW2 vet would want to jump into a sim and fly their aircraft one more time. It might bring back too many memories though for some.
I'm still on a mission to meet one from every branch before they are gone. And I'm running out of time 😢
There was also a D point in a fourth lost mode in Ground Battles. I can't remember the name any more but it simply was Domination with 4 cap points.
