Totally, 70 and 80s Kiss rules, all the rest you can discard
There is absolutely nothing wrong with I Was Made For Loving You... it's just not their typical sound. It was more of a one off to prove that anyone could write a disco song. Detroit Rock City is more KISS sounding. I was 6 years old in 1978 and went to my first KISS concert. Gene spit blood all over me and I've been in the KISS army ever since!!!
Growing up Gene Simmons loved 2 things about the United States. Comic books and rock and roll. So he combined the 2 and we got KISS! I have loved them since I was a kid in the 70s
Watch the 1996 live performance of Rock N Roll All Night performed under the Brooklyn bridge. It is not only a wild spectacle but you also get to full version of KISS, all the original members.
Yeah this one’s a bit sloppy for sure. Studio version is a lot better listen IMO. I have never seen them live but all the recorded live stage performances I’ve seen suggest that they were able to rely on their stage theatrics to get away with some, shall we say looseness in their musical performance. 😊
Destroyer was the first record I ever bought. September 1976 as an 8 year old. Detroit Rock City was the first KISS song I ever heard. Been a KISS fan ever since.
Me too! I was 5 years old though. My mom gave me a ten dollar bill I handed it to the guy and ran out with it to the car. Mom got the change and as soon as we got home I listened to it over and over again while looking at all the cool stuff that used to come with KISS records back in the day. I miss that so much. Digital music without all the tangible, visual things that came with records just makes me sad for new music fans today. Altogether it was amazing to be a music lover back then.
@@Birdfinger💯. Even just the record store was an experience. People miss out on so much life experience today. It's sad. It was great when they started putting lyrics in the cover too.
It was my first album too! I had been saving my allowance and had $13 ! I'm sure Mom would rather I wanted a Barbie doll or something but she let me buy it anyway ❤
Hello from Detroit! I've lived all over the US and for the last 5+ years in Detroit... This town loves music like no place I've ever seen. Every show I attend, the audience is enthusiastic, loud, and knows their stuff. Tons of huge bands say that Detroit was the first city other than the band's own hometowns to embrace them. KISS immortalized it!
The New York Dolls were one of the first Glam Rock bands, Kiss took a little from them and a little from Alice Cooper's Shock Rock and added their own flair to it.
I took my daughter to see the Dolls on my 50th birthday. This was before Johnny Rocket passed away. At the end of the show Johanssen threw out a bunch of roses into the crowd. I went onto the floor and grabbed some roses for my young daughter. Johnny let me have their playlist that was taped onto the stage floor. I got a signed poster from the band. I gave all that stuff to my daughter of which she still has today. It was a great bonding experience with my kid.
@@BobS-0727 That sounds awesome. Unfortunately, where I live, we did get to see a lot of big bands coming thru however Kiss did stop by once in the 80's before they put the makeup back on. I did catch a towel that Gene wiped the sweat off of his face with but when I got home, I noticed that there wasn't any Kiss insignia on it and since no one believed I caught Gene's sweat towel I just started using it as my sweat towel at the gym.
I saw these guys in concert in 1977, 1st concert I ever went to. The Love Gun Tour and yes they did sing Detroit Rock City. I was only 17 years old. Great concert
W.A.S.P.is playing near me this Saturday. St.Charles Illinois.Cant Wait saw them last year also with Armored Saint. the last time i had seen them both together was like 1984 or 5 opening for METALLICA!!!!
Love Kiss , you need to check out some live stuff from their hay day in the 70-80s. I remember being 7 years old and having Kiss on an 8 track Alive 2 I think. I’m 56 now.
It's true that I was made for loving do a not represent the band's sound but it remains to this day one of their most popular songs if not the most popular. Now Detroit Rock City is MY personal favorite. Love the guitar solo
The cover of Kiss Alive II has a picture of each band member on the cover. Three of them look clean like at the start of a show, but Gene is covered in sweat with his mouth and chin covered in fake blood, a big, gooey drip hanging from the bottom, his eyes rolled back, making him look straight demonic. I bought it in 8th grade, and I think that's when mom realized she might have a bit of a wild teenager on her hands soon.
My first concert i ever went to was Kiss.. my brother took me back in the early 80s.. seen them a few more times, and they always bring a banger of a show!!
I saw them live 1980, at 13yrs old in the front row mind tiny mind was blown. Today I’m 57yrs old and I’m still rocking out. Cheers from Perth West Australia 🇦🇺
30 years ago my wife, then girlfriend, surprised me with KISS concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. I giggled as we walked along and started to see all these people with KISS makeup. “I know where we’re going!” Haha
I was made for loving you is my favorite Kiss song. People need to chill and appreciate that Kiss fabulously adapted to the disco era and managed to stay relevant while making a groovy rock song. Kiss are masters at what they do.
Nobody said it is a horrible song, they were just saying that Made For Loving You is not their normal sound, it is a disco track that was made on a bet because writing disco is easy. People just wanted him to hear their normal stuff so he had a better idea of them instead of writing them off the The Bee Gee's lite.
I seen them live in 1996 in Detroit at Tigers Stadium at the beginning of their Reunion Tour. It's one of the best concerts I've ever been to. When they played this song, all you could hear was the crowd screaming at the beginning. It was like standing next to a 747 jet engine as it revved up for takeoff! It still gives me chills.
The first time this song was played was at COBO ARENA in Detroit Michigan May 16 1975 it was recorded for their live Album the tour was called dressed to kill
Yes! My favorite band of all time. I was 12 when I 1st heard them and cried when I couldnt go to their concert 😅. Finally at 36 years old, the original band got back together, with full makeup, and had a concert in Milwaukee. I paid the price and got to see them. I had a great upper side seat that was not far from Gene Simmons. Let me tell you I was in heaven, and yes, I cried again! It was an amazing concert and worth every penny!
KISS are a great band and huge from 70s & I believe are touring their last gigs now. My sis saw them live about 20 yrs ago & from the 7th row she said the pyrotechnics felt right next to her. Yeah, their music changed sometimes but I like all their incarnations. It's called growth, different band members & keeping up with the times.
Saw these guys live back in the mid to late 70's (Kiss Alive and Destroyer tours) and they just stood the industry on it's ear with a whole new 'Shock Rock' genre that until then was primarily owned by Alice Cooper. Gene Simmons was always known for his larger that life tongue but during performance would also breath fire and spit blood as part of his "Demon" persona. Their shows were always accompanied with pyrotechnics as well as many other effects to create this larger than life production. Great reaction!
Im so glad you are doing this!!! About to age myself here. I saw them live the first time back in 1977. Yes the original 4!!!! It was the best concert ever. Then I had the blessing to be able to see them again back in 2005!!!! It was a great concert too. I can remember feeling the heat every single time the pyro went off. It was an incredible concert to see.
Their concerts are INSANELY entertaining. My fiance, grandson, and I saw them about 8 years ago. My grandson was 5 at the time. He was obsessed with Gene Simmons. It was an amazing, amazing time!
First concert I ever saw. I was 15, it was the old Winnipeg Arena, and I was 5th row on the floor. Caught Paul Stanley's guitar pick and was deaf for 2 days. 😆I've seen a TON of concerts since then- seen KISS more than a handful of time- and no one puts on a better show than them.
Kiss has gone through a lot of personnel changes. The two that remained was Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. I'm sure this was the 70's. Bc in the early 80's, is when kiss had their first lineup change. Also drastically changed their appearance. They got rid of their makeup, platform boots and clothes. Then in the mid-late 90's Peter and Ace returned and so did the makeup and clothes.
Kiss was huge in the mid 70s. Intact, at that time, that band was billed as the greatest band in the world. The song "Detroit Rock City " had a special meaning for me since I was born, raised, and still live in the suburbs of Detroit. The 70s were such a great time to be a teenager in Detroit ! Detroit in the 70s really was Rock City back then. All the biggest bands did shows here because we had so many large concert halls, and all the shows were consistently sold out. I believe this show was actually filmed in Detroit.
Best live band ever. I've been to many concerts over the years and seen many a good show but KISS live is just something you have to experience. Not my top for musicality as i have many other bands that i think are better but that's just me, but live.......... no contest, they have more pyrotechnics in the first song than most bands have in the entire show.
The best way to think of a live KISS show is a staged photo opportunity from start to finish. They've been my favorite band since I was in elementary school (class of 85) and are one of the few bands left that put the fans first.
Nobody was bigger than Kiss back in the 70's and 80's. They are showman. I got to see them with their original lineup, their last tour together. I was grinning from ear to ear. Great show and my ears rang for months!!! If you like movies checkout the movie Detroit Rock city. It's a hilarious movie about some guys going to a Kiss concert. Absolutely hilarious. Detroit Rock City was written for a fan that died on his way to a KISS concert. This was a hit in the 70's.
Yeah, I was thinking, he didn't get to hear the crash at the end. Hope he listens to the studio version.
Really based on a real event? Never heard this fact (?) or any specifics about such an event in any Kiss Army circles.

Ace frehley and Peter kriss are the difference!
