I'm just now stumbling across your channel. I went through most of the comments, but I didn't see anyone address your question about how old they were at the time this was recorded. Gene Simmons aka the Demon (Bassist) - 56 years old, he turrned 57 three months later and is now 74. Paul Stanley aka Star Child (Rhythm guitar and vocals) - 56 and is now 71. Tommy Thayer (Lead guitarist and not an original memeber), playing the part of Ace Frehley (original member) aka the Space Man - 46 and is now 63. Eric Singer (Drums and not an original member) playing the part of Peter Criss (original member) aka the Cat Man - 48 and is now 65. KISS is getting ready to wrap up their final tour and will be retiring after 50 years.

    Their names are:
    Vocalist: Paul Stanley (Starchild)
    Guitarist: Ace Frehley (Spaceman)
    Bass player: Gene Simmons (Demon)
    Drummer: Peter Criss (Catman)
Those are the original members, but I think that on these dates they are:
    Guitarrist: Tommy Thayer
    Drummer: Eric Singer

@@ANDZIGCREAM On one hand it feels weird that they are not the originals, but on the other they fit into the characters. When they had other member like Eric Carr (The Fox and my favorite batterist in the band's history) or Vinnie Vincent (I don't know if his Egyptian symbol ever got a name) played their own stile. Thayer and Singer play note-by-note the original character's music.

Saw KISS thirty years before this show, that's 1976, on their first tour with this album "Destroyer", and the show was stunning. They were still very young and moved very well in those platform shoes, dancing and jumping with total energy, and amping the crowd up. Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band opened the show, and got an encore, KISS got three encores. KISS did open the show with "Detroit Rock City". Here is their lineup: Gene Simmons-Bass (The Demon), Paul Stanley-Guitar (Star Child), Ace Frehley-Guitar (Space Man) and Peter Criss-Drums (The Cat).

I'm a lifelong KISS fan since my childhood in the 70s and I have the greatest respect for these guys, not only because of all the great music that they put out over many decades, but because they are still passionate and determined to give you a great show everytime when they're on stage and we're talking about some men in their seventies here (Gene is 73 and Paul 71). Because of their age they're on their farewell tour right now and I'm going to see them (and bid them farewell) in Cologne in about two weeks. I'm quite excited even though I have seen them many times before, but this one feels special since it's most likely the last time.
Honestly: I am already 52 years old, but when I am at a KISS concert, I really feel as if I'm my ten-year-old self again with glowing eyes, singing from the top of my lungs.
You should really check out some live stuff from the seventies, I recommend 'Black Diamond" from the 1975 'Midnight Special' which was a tv show with live audience. Great song, great version and great vibe. Here's the link:

In my opinion (and I have been a fan of KISS since 1978), KISS existed from 1973 until 2001 and that's it! In the year 2000 they started their "farewell" tour with the original lineup of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss and Ace Frehley. What you see now, and in this video, as KISS is two original guys (Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons) with two imposters. The names of the imposters don't really matter, but they are Eric Singer - who plays the role of Peter Criss on the drums - and Tommy Thayer - who pretends to be Ace Frehley on lead guitar. KISS have had many changes of their lineup over the years, but in 1980 the replacement for Peter Criss, Eric Carr (who unfortunately died from cancer in the heart on November, 24th 1991 - the exact same day as Freddie Mercury from Queen), chose the character of a fox and in the end of 1982 Vinnie Vincent replaced Ace Frehley and became the "Egyptian Warrior" with an Ankh on his face. In the fall of 1983 the band took off the make-up and continued as a "normal" hardrock band for 13 years with more lineup changes, but Mark St. John (lead guitar, 1984), Bruce Kulick (lead guitar, 1984-1996) and Eric Singer (yes, the guy who wears Peter's make-up now on drums, 1992-1996) played their instruments in their personal style. Nowadays Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer have to play the old songs note for note and that's the next embarrassment besides the make-up-issue. Don't get me wrong, I liked and respected every lineup until the character-theft in 2001, even when the original band of Gene, Paul, Peter and Ace is still my favorite.
I hope, I didn't bore you with my little rant! I just had to get this out of my chest. ;-)
I enjoy your music and movie reactions very much and wish you the best!
By the way, I have two suggestions for you: Maybe you would like to react to "New York Groove" (from under the Brooklyn Bridge, 1996. This was during their Reunion-Tour with the original band) and the second song would be "Beth" (1995 during their MTV-Unplugged appearance - without make-up and costumes). Have a great day!

Kiss grew out of their costume era but left on a real high with Creatures of the Night (1982); wrote some pretty damn good crowd pleasing pop-rock tracks in the 80's and 90's but then went back(wards) and have been living off their past glories for 20 years. Yes, they work hard and are probably doing more per concert than most rock groups 1/3rd their age but you don't win awards for effort. I recommend trying out their unplugged "I still love you" or something from REVENGE (92) or ASYLUM (85) because this is KISS trying to go back to when they were in their 20's and there just isn't the raw passion that is needed to make these songs fun.

    I love the band Kiss!!!!
I met this band in 1983 and since this year I've been following them.
Detroit Rock City is a classic of music, from the 1976 album Destroyer (an album that I recommend you listen to in its entirety)
The band kiss had several formations, and I think you will really enjoy making a reaction video of the song I Still Love You by Acustico from 1996 with the formation of Kiss without makeup.
thanks for the video reaction I really enjoyed reliving this time.

You would love the official video for Tears are Falling.... it's a short song but it's really good... with the added benefit that the band is not wearing their usual KISS makeup so you get to see all of them, especially lead singer Paul Stanley...which enjoy if you get my drift

They were at Sonic Temple festival in Ohio last month. They brought just as much energy during their farewell tour as they did in 06. I was so happy I got to see them at least once before they retired. I have been enjoying their music for 30 years. I was about 4 the first time I heard "Strutter" from them. My dad has always been a fan since they came out, so he got me started on them early. I'm glad to see you reacting to them.

I saw Kiss when they 1st came out in the 70's at Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino. It was high energy audience and atmosphere.. Come to find out one of the guards was reselling tickets. It was over capacity and standing room only. He got caught right after because he was getting a divorce and the wife was suing for half the profits. The next concert the ticket takers started tearing the tickets and you kept half.

My first concert was seeing Kiss at the Philadelphia Civic Center in 1976. I was 15 years old. This was my introduction to rock concerts. I am 62 and remember that experience like it was yesterday. I saw the 4 or 5 more times through the mid 90's. Each show was bigger than the last. Prior to that, I bought the Kiss Alive album, which I still own. Thanks for the memory.

Kiss plays hard rock music but w/ pop rock influences... they were huge fans of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis, The Who, etc... The main 2 guys of Kiss has always been Paul Stanley (vocals & guitar) who wears the star makeup, and Gene Simmons (bass & vocals) who wears the 'demon' makeup... this video had Tommy Thayer (lead guitar) who replaced original lead guitarist Ace Frehley, and Eric Singer (drums) who replaced original drummer Peter Criss... (who wore the 'Spaceman' and 'Catman' makeup)
'Detroit Rock City' came out in 1976... it was a tribute to the Michigan city where Kiss broke big in 1975. They were selling out arenas there before they even had a hit record. The lyrics were written by Paul Stanley after hearing about a Kiss fan in North Carolina, who was killed in a car accident on his way to their concert... it was also a tribute of sorts to him.
On the Kiss album 'Destroyer'... the track 'Detroit Rock City' has a long intro that sounds like someone cleaning up, walking outside, getting into a car and driving w/ Kiss on the radio and a news announcement that someone had been killed in a car accident ... The song at the end has the sound of car brakes screeching and a crash... The edited radio version only had the song.
Kiss were never a full-on metal band, but did some heavy rock records like 'Creatures of the night' (1982) and 'Lick it up' (1983)... Aerosmith were comparable to them musically because they also had those 60's pop rock influences, and both bands were also fans of Led Zeppelin and Alice Cooper.

The bass player got all the chicks...They loved his goth-vampire thing, and of course, the tounge action (LOL) His parents were quite amused by it, saw them joking about it to Rolling Stone reporters.I wouldn't call KISS the greatest band of that period, But they knew how to put on a helluva show, I'll give 'em that!

The Bass Player (Called "the Demon") is Gene Simmons. There's a Live version of the KISS Song "God of Thunder"... It's the Part of the Show where he "Spits Blood" and the Stage he's standing in is Elevated 20 feet in the Air!
Gene also Learned how to Breathe FIRE for the Shows as Well!
"The Demon" and "Starchild" were Founding Members of KISS, Back in 1972 and Still Perform today (in their 12th "Final Tour"). That Puts those two in Thier 80's!
"Starchild (Paul Stanley) likes to be attached to Cables and "Fly" over the Audience!
It's fun to see the Girls in the Audience Wearing KISS Makeup... and Many Shed their Tops for the Concerts!

First time I saw KISS was on The Midnight Special when I was in high school in the 70's. Thought they were awesome. Saw them live in Long Beach California in 1976ish. Awesome show. Somewhere somehow they lost the magic, at least for me. They took the make up off and got into the 80's style music, then they came back with make up but they just couldn't bring the magic back. Maybe if you first saw them in the 80's, 90's and so on you think they're great. Can't compare when they first came out in the 70's. I still have Ace Frehley's solo album and Peter Criss's solo Album. Never really cared for the other two. And how many times have they had a goodbye tour? Love your reaction though.

Geddy Lee from the famous band Rush (they toured with KISS before) in an interview said,"They are the hardest working band in show business."Gene Simmons (bassist) wears a costume that weighs about 40lbs. and doing a 2 plus hour show. And he's in his 70's now. Saw them 4 or 5 times, met them once(with our 3 sons) just to put in our bucket list. Sure their tickets may be high priced, but they have a lot of professional people that need to be paid. Their elaborate stages have to also be paid for as well as their pyro. Their concerts is not just a show, it's a spectacle. You get your money's worth.
