Rick Allen the drummer, lost his left arm in a car accident, when he was only 21 years old. He was close to depression, but his group said that no one would replace him, and they waited for him until he could recover and learn to play again. True loyalty and friendship.
And the fans were loyal right along with the band. They were worried about being out of the spotlight while they waited but clearly it had no effect on the fanbase or their popularity! I also love that they didn't have all the infighting and drama that so many bands did.

To me, this sounds like such a celebratory song, of knowing they overcame huge odds and being so glad to be able to play together again.
Rick Allen was a solid drummer before losing the arm. They set up a special custom drum rig for him after, which wasn't that easy to play in and of itself. Granted, Def Lep never had insane drum parts but they could have easily just replaced the guy and didn't.
Also when you realize that this album's guitars were recorded with a Rockman headphone amplifier designed and made by Tom Scholz of the band Boston and it sounds this good you know it's good 🤘🏼
@@neilpatrickhairless I applaud the band for sticking with Rick Allen. I lost my leg when I was 16 in a motorcycle accident (51 years ago now) at the beginning of what I though was going to be a long healthy life. This kind of trauma changes you and the fact that Rick's band mates stood by him until he figured it out is a true sign of friendship over career. You really need those friend during time like that.
When Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident, Def Leppard were at the peak of their success. They stopped everything and waited for him to recover. I played with a drummer named Dean Zimmer for about 30 years. He would never consider himself disabled, even though he's in a wheelchair. He's sponsored by DW. Was recently inducted into the South Dakota Rock n Roll hall of fame. And there's a mini documentary about him called "Drummer Wanted". Look it up!
I know people mentioned Rick's missing arm but did anybody mention that Joe Elliott blew out his vocal cords ,had node surgery and supposedly had his voice ruined forever, then he retaught himself to sing in a completely different style and they went on to even greater success ? Def Leppard is the band that would not die...🤣🤣🤣

Def Leppard are an English rock band formed in Sheffield in 1976. Since 1992, the band has consisted of Rick Savage, Joe Elliott, Rick Allen, Phil Collen, and Vivian Campbell. They established themselves as part of the new wave of British heavy metal of the early 1980s.
Don't forget Steve Clark 1978-1991 ( died from alcohol poisoning), Pete Willis 1977-1982 (he was replaced do to his drinking problems but should be recognized for there earlier album success do to his part on the music the made on their first three albums which are considered by a lot their best works.

Concert was so good I went to see them again in Denver at Red Rocks Amphitheatre the same year. You definitely need to hear more of them! You should check out Foolin next!

On a side note: I LOVE this band. Have since their 1st album. So so many hits! Early stuff: High N Dry, Bringin On The Heartbreak. Check em out.
I saw Def Leppard back in 1980 in San Antonio as a warm up group for Judas Priest. they looked like children on stage. I think the oldest at that time (17) was the the lead singer but they rocked the house to get us all primed up for JP
Def Leppard is British. They started as a New Wave of British Heavy Metal band alongside Iron Maiden and Saxon and the rest.
The band came from Sheffield, England. :D
Agree I think they kinda got lumped into the hair metal scene cause Joe was so pretty
@@michellesmith7363 just check out the Def Leppard E.P. version of Getcha Rocks Off. It's high energy speed metal.
"Let it Go" is a real hummer.
I hope this makes you go on a Def Leppard marathon! Soon, really really soon ! Start with Rock of Ages
Yes😊
Def Lepperd was an amazing band Live. I saw them twice before Rick Allen’s accident when he lost his arm in 1984. Specifically designed drums- and he never missed a beat. Amazing talent

So glad you like the drummer. He's an inspiration. He lost his arm in a car accident on the A57 in 1984. After recovering, he had to figure out how he could continue playing. As I said, inspiration.
Have seen them live 5 times. Great performances always. And to watch the drummer work with about 100 pedals is insane. Great shows.
Bringing on the heartache. Old Def Leppard, excellent.
Seen them 3 times in concert and never disappointed me, actually got better every year. Got me through some rough times in my past....
DefLep had a harder rockin sound before the drummer lost his arm, Rick Allen is awesome 🔥. I love drummers! The rest of the band is great too!
I saw these guys this summer in Orlando Florida with Cheap Trick and Journey light! Def Leppard was ABSOLUTELY the headliner!
Another UK band is bringing the heat. Great reaction, Molly Boy - Thanks for the hard work.
