  • What If Dranosh Saurfang Had Survived The Wrathgate? - World of Warcraft
    Wrath of the Lich King Wotlk Lore Video
    What if Dranosh, the son to Varok, had survived the events of Angrathar? How would events play out following this change? Dranosh has been stated by Thrall to be a rising star amongst the horde, only to have his legacy cut short when he was slain by the Lich King at the wrathgate. However if he had survived, how would the horde look following the war in northrend? Watch the video and find out!

    Spoilers to the video:
    Hey guys just wanted to add that most of the conversations in this video, that take place between the characters are not made up. They actually took place in our timeline, like Garrosh and Cairne arguing on the boat and Cairne accusing Garrosh of being a liar. However, I do tweak the conversations a bit and change them since Dranosh is still alive. For example, the conversation with thrall and dranosh originally took place with Garrosh and Thrall when Thrall made him warchief. But thats all I had to say! Hope you guys enjoyed this "What If" video, next one will be about Darion Mograine. Haven't written any of the script down yet, but I already have it all laid out in my head!

      Classic Mak'gora rules would oblige Dranosh to kill Garrosh not because of guilt, but because of challangng to a duel to the death, which both parties have agreed to earlier. So it would be extremely dishonorble to say"i beat you and you are a normal citizen now".

    What if Illidan managed to defeat Arthas and destroy the Lich King?

    • @Zzx113
      @Zzx113 7 років тому +4

      Then the crowning of Arthas as Lich King would never happen. Tirion would still be a screaming old man. Ebon blade wouldn't exist. The Ashbringer may have not been created. Alex Mograine would still be alive. Darion would too. I'm sure Ner'Zhul would have to try and lure another kid in with promises of power. Not sure about Sunwell.

    • @hazzmati
      @hazzmati 7 років тому

      ***** well it's an interesting case because in wotlk it's stated there HAS to be a lich king or either the world will be overrun but in frozen the lich king felt really threatened and recalled arthas to protect him so that would mean an end to the lich king means an end to the earth which seemingly is not the case in wotlk

    • @VijoPlays
      @VijoPlays 7 років тому +2

      (Just gonna add a bit of info to what's already been stated)
      In Wotlk we learn that there has to be a LK or else the Scourge will run rampart, which doesn't necessarily mean that everyone will die, but it's highly unlikely that we'd be able to stop all the masses of undead storming at us at once (because Arthas hold most of them back, even as the LK).
      Ner'zhul, being the LK, called for Arthas, because Illidan could destroy the Frozen Throne. I guess Ner doesn't really care about the world being overrun, but rather so that Illidan can not destroy him.
      Ner'zhul would be completely dead (if he managed to destroy the LK that is) and NOW the Scourge would rampage through the lands. Our warriors would stand against the Scourge, but seeing as they are undead, we either lose to them or manage to flee to Kalimdor for safety, thus the Eastern Kingdoms being lost.

    • @hazzmati
      @hazzmati 7 років тому

      It really doesn't add them though. Why would the scourge be more dangerous after you killed their leader. A leader who wants everyone undead but seemingly is incapable of doing it unless he is dead? Doesn't make sense.

    • @VijoPlays
      @VijoPlays 7 років тому

      hazzmati
      Just reread what I wrote earlier.
      Arthas held back the Scourge, even as the LK he did, a small part within him did.
      Of course it would be better to have a general that commands the undead and focuses their attacks, but let's just take a zombie apocalypse as a good example.
      Some people are afraid of such a thing, because they feel unsafe. They could live in a small town with ~300 people in it and they would still feel like they are in danger.
      And when you take movies, they also are.
      I have to admit, that it's a bit hard to explain, but just try to imagine it.
      The undead will just mindlessly run aroiund and eventually find their way to the cities of Lordaeron/etc. Once they did, the other undead will realize this and 'join' then. The uncountable masses of undead will someday overwhelm the cities one by one and some undeads (like the Val'kyr) will start to raise new ones to refresh them. It's much harder to find new living when they fall, since we have to wait ~20 years until one can try to battle the undead.
      With Arthas, they might be a bit more focused (look at the times when Arthas was still active and not just sat around whistling on ICC), but without him they are not. And since the LK commands them, the 'human boy' (in case you read the book) can also hold the armies back.
      There is no *need* for a LK, but with him it's much easier and safer.

      In my opinion, still played out the same, except Garrosh wouldn't have the whole horde to rule like he did. But with Dragnosh as warchief and following what both Thrall, his father and the other horde leaders have taught him, would keep on trying to make treaties with the Alliance. Not sure how it would have played out with Baine meeting Anduin thus gaining Fearbreaker, granting him abilities of a paladin, who knows?

      We'd still have old Jaina, always kind and wise. Rhonin would still be the head of the Kirin Tor, Cairne would still be alive. Vol'jin probably would've survived the attack in legion 'cause Saurfang is a badass warrior who would've made the legion cinematic more epic with his mad skills. Wow. Garrosh really fucked up a lot of things now that I think about it...

    • @girlgarde
      @girlgarde 6 років тому

      Garrosh wasn't a good politician, he was a warrior who tried to rule the Horde like it was the Horde from the First and Second Wars. He simply wasn't qualified to lead the current Horde and Thrall should've realized this. Thrall should've put Cairne in charge of the Horde despite the possible problems with the Grimtotem Tauren and the Orcs as Cairne was a proven and trustworthy friend and ally of the Orcs.
      Mists of Pandaria would probably have been about stopping the Thunder King and the Mogu from conquering the world and would've been revealed to be the puppets of the Old Gods. Regarding Warlords of Draenor, it wouldn't have happened unless the Legion gets past Gul'dan and the Horde from the Alternate Draenor to invade Azeroth and the Alliance and Horde team up to stop them. Alternate Gul'dan is still sent to the present day by Archimonde to help the Legion and the stage is set for Legion only with less tension between the Alliance and the Horde.

      I like the way your thinking >:D

    • @HouseOfAlastrian
      @HouseOfAlastrian 7 років тому +4

      Actually, Gilneas would have rejoined the Alliance a lot sooner, the Worgen curse might not have spread as far as it did and the Alliance would have a port city right at Sylvanas' doorstep. One of the reasons that Darius Crowley led the Northgate Rebellion was because of Gilneas' isolationism.
      Rather than reach out to the Alliance for help defending against the Scourge, Genn Greymane built a wall and asked Archmage Arugal to summon the Worgen. Not the best idea considering Greymane walled off some of his own people in the north, leaving them to either get wiped out by the Scourge or Forsaken and to get turned into Worgen.
      First thing Crowley would have done upon winning the Northgate Rebellion would have been to go to Stormwind and commence negotiations with Varian Wrynn, who would certainly be more welcoming of him than Greymane, who he partly blames for the Stonemasons' riot (and thus the death of his wife and rise of the Defias) because the moment the Alliance started talking about subsidizing the rebuilding of Stormwind after the Second War and the internment of the orcs, Greymane pulled out of the Alliance out of refusal to help pay for such things.

    • @Jackson110010

    • @HouseOfAlastrian
      @HouseOfAlastrian 7 років тому +2

      Alex Piers... Yeah, pretty much... and look at how that turned out for him... and for Gilneas... most of them are Worgen living in a tree in Darnassus while the battle for the crumbled remains of their kingdom has been in a stalemate for years... not to mention Sylvanas gassed the whole of their capital with the Forsaken version of the Plague, and it took a LOT to get Varian Wrynn to forgive Greymane enough to let him and his people back into the Alliance. Gilneas may have been strong once... but standing alone was a fatal mistake that cost them their homeland and their humanity.

    Although I feel like if draenosh wasn't killed and raised then bolvar would become the "champion" of the scourge to stop you after the airship battle, and tirion would've become the lich king.

    This has to be one of my favorite what-ifs of all time. Thank you so much for making this video and your narration for it is great! Kinda makes you think as to what sort of changes would occur within the Alliance as well since Garrosh would supposedly do NOT do the things he did in the current timeline for the Horde.
    And if that is the case...could you possibly put down the what-if scenario for them as a whole? Or maybe one step further as to what the Siege of Ogrimmar would be really like?
    I know this is a bit far-fetched, but I believe that if Garrosh would be disgraced due to Cairne's blind dislike towards him, he and the rest of the available Warsong tribe would just pick up and leave refusing to even rejoin the Horde due to the hatreds towards the Tauren. Or more specifically, their leader.
    Cairne would be blamed for his perceived arrogance towards Garrosh that lead the young warriors' name to be tarnished and dishonored, and would become the perfect target and scapegoat for the Grimtotem. Thus, another series of events would either lead Cairne's death by poison or assassination. And, once again, the blame would be directed at Garrosh for his grudge against the Tauren. Of course, Dranosh would find this difficult to believe and would become suspicious as to why Cairne's death so suddenly after the fallout with the Warsong.
    Garrosh would receive word of the old bull's passing and knew that something is wrong. He would send out a messenger to Ogrimmar and request a parlay with Dranosh, seeing that another investigation would be in order. And, as predicted, many members of the Horde would jeer and scorn the Warsong tribe as murderers and traitors, but Garrosh would pay no mind. At the summit, Dranosh, Baine, Gallywynx, Lor'themar, and Sylvannas would also be there hoping to glean some answers from the young orc. Thus, the investigation begins and Garrosh is put on trial in the presence of all the leaders of the Horde.
    Constants and variables. This is just my worldview of what would happen. Once again, I know it is a bit far-fetched, but it would be amazing to see this some other part of the cosmos in an alternate timeline of the World of Warcraft.

    In terms of gameplay, if Dranosh survived, he'd probably be the one to give you the ICC buff instead of Garrosh, and there would be not only no need for Varok to come to Icecrown Citadel, but two bosses (Gunship and Deathbringer Saurfang) would be cut from the raid. Maybe, if Blizzard still wanted a gatekeeper boss for ICC that would fulfil a similar role to Deathbringer Saurfang instead of Deathbringer Saurfang as the gatekeeper, we'd see someone like Orbaz Bloodbane, Captain Falric or maybe High Thane Jorfus guarding the Citadel. In additional lore, we wouldn't have the Theramore bombing, meaning Jaina would still play to be neutral, and the Kirin Tor would follow suit. Liam Greymane would have survived the Battle of Gilneas, (as the Forsaken invasion of Gilneas was under Garrosh's orders) and Genn probably wouldn't be so bitter towards Sylvanas, meaning he wouldn't be there to stop her plans for immortality in Legion (if she would even have them). Cairne would still be alive, meaning Baine wouldn't be a Horde leader, but maybe an important questing figure. Dranosh, instead of Sylvanas would give you some Legion PVP buffs. Dalaran would've kept the Sunreavers as citizens in Mists lore. We wouldn't have the Vol'Jin pre-Siege of Orgrimmar event, Siege of Orgrimmar, or Warlords of Draenor. This also means that Vol'Jin wouldn't succeed him as Warchief post-raid then die in Legion, Sylvanas wouldn't have succeeded Vol'Jin, and Battle for Azeroth, the upcoming expansion, would have turned out very differently from Varok remaining in Stormwind custody for seemingly indefinite amounts of time.
    Just some pointers on lasting impacts this great decision to keep Saurfang the Younger alive could've brought, but alas, Blizzard has to be a dick. If anyone wants to point out more things, or any things I could've put in, please suggest them to me.

      We would've had Mop Just a different ending.

    • @NoahWeisbrod
      @NoahWeisbrod 7 років тому +6

      The ending could still have happened pretty similarly.
      When a new continent is discovered to the south, a recently-acquitted Garrosh Hellscream volunteers to lead the expedition, desperate to prove himself once again.
      Dranosh gladly grants him this honor, if for no other reason than to get the belligerent hero away from Orgrimmar, since Garrosh has been decrying Theramore, the Exodar, and Darnassus as stains on a perfect, Orc-ruled Kalimdor. To Saurfang's horror, these sentiments are not unpopular among many of his own people.
      In Pandaria, Garrosh Hellscream discovers an ancient, terrible power capable of making him strong enough to finally realize his goal, the Heart of Y'Shaarj. Garrosh reminds the orcs of the glory days of the old Horde, when they effortlessly crushed the Draenei and Humans. He says the Horde under Thrall and Saurfang has been a betrayal of their proud heritage. He rallies his supporters, calling themselves the True Horde, to take Orgrimmar from those unworthy to rule.
      After destroying the Vale to wield the power of an Old God, the Alliance and the Horde both see Garrosh as a massive threat and put aside their differences to retake the newly-captured Orgrimmar from this madman.

    • @Ryquard1
      @Ryquard1 7 років тому +2

      At the end however, as Dranosh was still in charge, he never made the decision to make Vol'jin the new Horde Warchief, but a close advisor, following the war crimes trial, and the Bronze drangon mumbo jumbo, Warlords of Draenor would be pretty the same, with the difference that this time is Dranosh who fights Garrosh again, this time killing him for real, Thrall would have not lost his shaman powers due to doubt for cheating in the duel. Fast forward to Legion, sadly it would be Dranosh who gets killed in broken shore, and the Enhance shaman artifact wouldnt be Doomhammer, maybe the cenarius great axe but modded to be used as two weappons. but there is on thing i didnt get... would Theramore be still obliterated to nothing?

    • @NoahWeisbrod
      @NoahWeisbrod 7 років тому

      Ricardo Saltos Probably not, unless Garrosh took the time to sack the city on his way to conquer Orgrimmar.
      (Also, during Garrosh's invasion of Orgrimmar, Saurfang might die, refusing to let Garrosh rule while he still lives.)
