A house built on incest and dragons. What could possibly go wrong?
Soooo many things. For a real-life example, just look at the Hapsburgs (no dragons, but absurdly inbred).
Some of them were noble and others weren't, so they're a complex house.
🤢
@@discountplaguedoctor88 r/wooosh
Nothing
Cersei talking... the gods also flipped a coin with her own children 🤣
Ikr? Lmao
Hahahahaha I guess that just proves that madness doesn’t choose its victims.
I think that is implied. She knows the coin has been flipped on her kids. The targ incest is referenced when the Lannister incest is implied. So they know.
That’s what she’s referencing. She’s basically saying that her son is mad because of incest.
@@sophiesdollhouse Tommen wasn't good, was weak. Goodness requires strenght as a requisite.
now, we clearly learned that the budget doesn't allow 3 dragonriders.
You mean house budget
crazy to think Targaryens were a lesser house and far from the most powerful of the 40 dragonlord families. Great video btw :)
Aerion I Belaerys Based on the Romans. It is said that Rome was created or influenced by refugees from Troy after the war with Greece.
Aerion I Belaerys well seeing that they were dragonlords I would say that they were the 40th largest/ strongest house in Valyria
Gökçe Okbay there was only 40 dragonlord families. there were a lot more valyrian houses in general.
Aerion I Belaerys well yes ofcourse but Targaryens were Dragonlords
Haroon Abdul Majeed it's crazy to think because there were 39 other valyrian houses that tamed and rode dragons and the targaryens were considered one of the weakest. it's crazy because the targaryens are portrayed as this near unstoppable family and there were houses that made the targaryens look weak. I want to know about these other families above all.
And then everything went to shit because they didn't want to film another season
The Targaryen's are by far the most intriguing house in the entire series.
Charline Thom because the show barely touched on the family
Charline Thom but the lannister are the most interesting.
GreatestOf AIITime No they aren't.. it's just that they're not known for that much
Levi Mizuhara I'm sorry, what? The House that literally created the Seven Kingdoms, has the most well detailed chronicles and largest amountbof known memorable members is not known for much? How come?
Goliath Online that is just a saying tho.. greyjoys have no control over sea.. the iron fleet is just one of the 3 powerful naval army but not the strongest.. iron islanders are pilagers and raiders.. same with dothraki.. the only thing that make them special is that they have a castle
Fire and blood.. the only way to hatch a dragon
The problem with Targaryen attempts to resurrect dragons is that none of those attempts worked: Baelor prayed for an entire year and was ignored, Aegon the Unworthy went with mechanical flamethrowers that broke easily, Dany's attempt to hatch her eggs in a brazier also failed.
Madness, as you know, is like gravity, all it takes is a little push.
And burn citys

Burn them all ?
You're missing the most important part of the Targaryens entirely. More than fire, more than dragons, more than incest and more than marriage, the Targaryens embody being absolutely unwilling to change, adapt, or compromise their ambition and views, for good or bad. Their blood has an almost mythical quality to it because they've reinforced that idea their entire reign. Their predisposition to madness or greatness is a really dumb theme in the series because every third or every other character is batshit insane, it's just how the people in this story are. The only difference in the Targaryens is they're incredibly prominent as the ruling class of Westeros, and they commit to their insane ideologies like cult leaders. They're unwilling to move on from having dragons and adapting to the times that they take up wildfire as the closest replacement, they keep trying to resurrect dragons in ways that lead to them dying, and the only reason Dany is remarkable and not just another Targaryen that burned to death with some dragon eggs is it just happened to finally work. It took them 200 years to come up bring Dorne into the fold because it didn't occur to them to try banging the hedonistic people in the south that sleep with anything they can, that might work because burning them into submission keeps failing. And they only thought of that because all the dragons died. Rhaegar abducted and married a child because he was obsessed with prophecy, even though he knew the consequences. Dany wants to be queen of Westeros, a place she has never been on the other side of the world, because she was raised learning its the Targaryen birthright, and she is basically incapable of dealing with anyone who disagrees with her with anything but violence. Even Maester Aemon, the most reasonable Targaryen we meet, is unwilling to compromise his decision to join the Watch, even though it was voluntary, he is free to leave, and he never actually took the oath, he's a maester not a black brother, even though he knew Aerys was in desperate need of guidance and Aemon could've prevented his descent into madness. Targaryens are stubborn, unbending beasts who can't be reasoned with any more than a dragon can, and that's why they die young and bloody. The Targaryens being the shortest lived major house in the history of Westeros isn't an accident, even if the context is often lost. Their only competition are the Baratheons, a branch family of the Targaryen house, and they both die off in 300 years while the Starks, Lannisters, Martells, Tyrells and even houses like the Boltons and Daynes have histories that stretch back thousands of years. Those who don't adapt, die.
I love this analysis and you're absolutely right!
@@tanyajustine3223 Thank you, I wasn't expecting a response, much less understanding
I personally view the Targaryens as Dragons. They are awe inspiring and beautiful, but super dangerous all the same.
There stubbornness and unwillingness to change is truly brought out by their all or nothing nature. I find it really interesting they never thought of bedding the dornish until the dragons died and their openness to sexuality was so well known.
Uhm i dont think so, they literally adapted to the culture of Westores.
In the Old Valyria banner werent a thing only in Westeros so they created their one. They had practiced a different religion but decided to convert to the Seven Faith. The only tradition that they kept was incest which was because they thought it was to connect them to the dragons and few times it was out of love. They founded and Unified the Seven Kingdom, sure some of them made mistake and stuff and im not saying their pure innocent creatures but they could just made it a colony and force the Seven Kingdom to learn their tradition but they conquered, learn their language and actually adapted the culture.
Game of Thrones Symbolism: the white walkers, technically they're not a noble house but still, it would make for an interesting video.
What the walkers want is to end life, all life, and bring the Long Night that never ends. That's all.
As Robert Baratheon was worried about 1 army with one purpose being a great threat from the Dothraki, the problem the Others and their army pose is exponentially worse.
in the show they're just the final enemy ... that cliche common enemy that will unite everyone and bring peace after they are defeated
show white walkers(show and book white walker are kinda different) are created by the children of the forest to defend them from invasion so the most likely goal that they have is to destroy the first men and their descendants
Zhi xci spoiler: everyone dies 🙆🏻♂️
I just think of them as a nature vs man.
Aw, looking at baby Viserion makes me so sad
"Half the Targaryens went mad, didn't they?" --Cersei
Erm....no. At most, three kings went crazy, and one of them only really had the madness of too-intense religious fervor, and the worst he did was imprison his sisters to "protect" them from the desires of men. The only ones who had a vicious insanity that slaughtered people because they could were Maegor the Cruel and the Mad King. There are a few minor Targaryens that were a bit touched in the head, but most of them ended up doing more damage to themselves than anyone else, like Aerion Brightflame who was loony enough to drink wildfire, thinking it would make him a dragon.
The rest of the destructive force of the Targaryens have been no more or less mad than any other noble family of Westeros. So really, the madness of the house has been exaggerated by other characters, both in the show and in the books.
Aegon II? The Usurper King? He fought a war with his half-sister because he stole her throne in The Dance of The Dragons (Targaryen Civil War) and all of the dragons died in the immediate aftermath.
@@gfilmer7150 Aegon II was Cruel and weak minded but not mad. I’d go as far to say he was a victim of his mother’s and grandfathers manipulation.
@@James-kd2qm He became mad at the end. Constantly hopped up on pain killers.
@@gfilmer7150 yeah because of all the pain medication and the severe trauma not because of targaryen madness
@@lillypharaoh5945 Still a crazy and ruthless bastard
I love Dany, she has and still is one of my favorite characters. The madness she gained in the finale was extremely rushed, and I wish they spent a little more time building it up rather than cramming it in 8 episodes. But what’s done is done, and GOT will remain one of my favorite tv shows.
Yes, the progression was done in haste. But assuming it was done properly, it could have been another great character arc of Daenerys that even someone like her who stood for justice and nobility is corruptible through power and war. It's very similar to dark knight's Harvey Dent turning into two face
@@mirambikasikdar5655 If it was done properly it could’ve been one of my favorite arcs honestly! I love seeing good characters become corrupt
In the books it’ll be more built up. Also, Cersei might die at the end of the sixth book. There’s a character in the books named Aegon VI “Young Griff” Targaryen who is invading Westeros with The Golden Company. He’s Rhaegar’s son (the one everybody thought The Mountain killed) and will probably become King. Dany will eventually roll up and because he has a stronger claim than her and Jon, will have the most support.
@@gfilmer7150 in which book does the story star to differ from the show? Bcz I read the first book and it was similar to what's in the show and was kinda boring cz I already knew wht happened.. Any advice?
@@karimafouad5137 Book Two has a lot of changes from page to screen. Some characters are more in depth and more interesting because you see their thoughts, others aren’t. Stannis is made as a villainous character in book two but then he becomes far more likable in later books. Book Three has changes, which is expected seeing as they stretched it out to two Seasons (3&4). Book four was kind of adapted and stretched into Seasons 5&6 (kind of). Book Five was barely even adapted, a lot of changes from page to screen in regards to Book Five (my favorite in the series). Expect some changes at first then expect a completely different story.
You know what the craziest thing is? Daenerys is criticized for her "cruelty" when there are characters in Westeros who have thrived on using brutality that everyone else loves. Tywin Lannister was responsible for some of the worst atrocities in Westeros: the reigns of Castamere, Robb Stark's murder, and the raid of the Riverlands all the while loving his family's image more than his actual family and yet he's one of the most beloved characters in the show. Cersei sends servant girls to be tortured in experiments, frames the Tyrells because she thought Margery was "stealing" Tommen and made it painfully clear to Tyrion that she doesn't give a hoot about the common people. She calls them "filthy urchins" in season 3 and shuts out refugees coming to the city because of her son's war in season 2 saying they "didn't belong in the capital". Not to mention she blew up a holy chapel. Yet people love Cersei's character. And both of them justified it for making their own houses great with insanity nowhere in sight. But when Daenerys conquers slave cities to free people from being treated like property and makes violent decisions on their behalf it's taken as madness. So what is it? Daenerys is only sane if she's nonviolent? Is Daenerys the only one not allowed to be ruthless? Or is violence only okay if it works out for everyone in the end like Tywin's endeavors?
I think the difference is that Tywin and Cersei never claim to be someting they're not. They know they are evil and basically don't care that they are. But Daenerys was kind of a symbol of purity and good (as good as you can be on this show) like Jon Snow, but as the series progress she is becoming more and more dark and power hungry. I think that's the difference.
I think because Dany resorts to more violent actions but is also rash because she is young. I give her a pass because of the shit she's been through. She sees people who have basically suffered like her and basically wants an "eye for eye" type of justice and to be fair it is the type of justice some people to this day still want. Dany wants to bring peace to Westeros because she does know what is going on there; wars, rapes, injustice, etc. People back her because she does want the best but needs good advisers to guide her. Her biggest problem now though is she doesn't have a good war council... that person would have been Barristan Selmy or Jorah. If she had them with her quite possibly her plans would have gone much better. Her people want her on the throne but they don't want her to fall like the Mad King. This is why someone like Jon and Tyrion are good people for her to talk to. They advise her to do the right thing but when the right thing can't overcome the problem at hand, Dany has to be willing to make hard choices otherwise you'll come off as soft to your enemies. If your enemies know you're soft they will exploit it, example being House Reyne and Tarbeck. They did not respect their Lord, Tytos Lannister and basically walked all over him. They wouldn't even give the money back they owed. Had it not been for Tywin, House Lannister could have been lost. Tywin showed people why he should not be messed with and people respected him for it. If you are leader and are shown as weak (Even in the real world) people will lose respect for you.
Here is also another example and I am going to use it. Ned Stark executed a man for deserting his post in the beginning of Game of Thrones. The guy who died made a vow to defend the wall. Ned is honorable, yes, and did his duty. However, what if Ned was like "Oh you can go, I won't kill you," next thing you know everyone on the wall abandons their post and Ned is being laughed at by everyone. No one would respect him.
Kaya N.
I think that it is just because Jon hates killing and usually shows some kind of remorse for it. Dany is compassionate and would make a much better leader than Cersei of course, but she is walking a very thin line. It does seem that Dany is taking an interest in Jon in the more recent episodes, but how will she react to the info that Jon has a stronger claim to the throne than she does?
thedifferent14 it's probably because she paints herself as special and trying to help the peasantry and then she burns and tries to conquer instead of staying in essos where she can do good
Everyone stop. Its called propaganda. The lannisters are able to use it for their own good and make themselves the heroes because they are on the throne and they can also make Dany look like a savage which cersei DID
I like how Daenerys dragons are the only ones to awaken with fire and blood. In the novel, Fire and Blood (based on the Targaryen dynasty) most if not all of the dragons are placed in the cradle of a newborn Targaryen and usually end up hatching, symboling power and life and not death and destruction.
What are you trynna say?

The targaryens =White Saviorism
@@terencesilva4499 how is it saviorism 💀
The Targaryens are my favourite house - their empowering dynasty, rich history, their pure bloodline and not to mention their enticing dragons are what make them one of the most admirable houses in Game of Thrones.
Ommstar Official "Pure" 🙃
lol u must be a fan of incest too then
They're all products of incest, which is why they have a tendency to be crazy.
Ommstar Official their are litteraly 1 legit targaren beside jon who is not legally a targaren
Yes we all know incest is bad
But if you pay attention to the pattern in their ancestry
It's either incest or miscarriages
Because a lot of targaryens who produced with others who were not their blood couldn't have children or if was extremely difficult for them to conceive
The babies would come out deform to look like dragon mutants or they'll come out sick and die
So their only option is incest really
Lmao which is weird because it's either have sick babies or no babies / have a child that might go insane
Which would you choose?
I eagerly await the other houses: The Greyjoys, Tullys, Arryns, Tyrells and especially the Martells, with their Sand Snake insignia.
Iceberg Dawkins but the Martell sigil is a sun pierced by a spear. Snake being their sigil is like Lannister's motto being "a Lannister always pays his debts"
Iceberg Dawkins check out game of thrones lore on UA-cam; it gives u a detailed picture of houses (even minor ones) and background of the game of thrones story
Don't forget the Mormonts :'D
Came from a land now lost.
Has affinity with magic.
Blonde and pretty.
On the verge of extinction.
The targaryens are elves.
alex thelizardking GRRM is Nazi confirmed.
i applaud you
Of course they're elves inspired. But they also have vampire-like too. The Red and Black gritty insignia, armors, clothes with Blood and Fire... it def has some vampire elements in there.
Old Valyria is based on Michael Moorcock’s Golden Empire of Melnibone
Dead empire...dragons...magic swords...
it's hard to revisit this video, knowing the finale to the franchise. Honestly crushed.
We dont know the end of the books yet
@@KonEl-BlackZero It might end the same, but replace Cersei with Young Griff
And then season 8 happened. 😵

Screen prism: This signals set characters desire for power, (s)he wants to have the world around them for themselves and doesn’t want to share the air with anybody.
it does feel like that sometimes lol but a lot of it is what was written about GOT's.
I believe the Targaryen symbolize a standard Fantasy archetype of "the good old days" as opposed to the Starks who are current fantasy protagonists
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the dragon that was reanimated by the Night King and turned evil is Viserion, like the man he was named after, Viserys who turns insane and on Dany.
Its crazy watching this now and seeing how things would turn out.
Targaryens are my faves - so badass.
Reine Camelot I know they are my favorite too the are the most powerful family
Reine Camelot They are the best family in the series
Have you read GRRM's Fire and Blood. If not, you should. I am looking forward for part II.
The amount of subscribers these guys have does not match up with the level of high detail and professionalism in your videos. Another beautiful Game of Thrones video essay.
I always thought the Targaryen words “Fire and Blood” had a double meaning more than just death and carnage vs life and warmth. Fire and blood are literally the two things they need to hatch dragons (In Dany’s case, three blood sacrifices through Drogo, Rhaego, and Miri Maz Duur, and a really big fire beneath the red comet in exchange for her three children). It’s not just a warning of what happens to their enemies, it’s a reminder of what makes their power: dragons.
Bloodraven and Aemon Targaryen:
*”Am I a joke to you?”*
I don't care whether its Jon or Daenerys! I want a Targaryen on the iron throne!! It should be the Targaryen dynasty!!
Liana Storm I I'm with you
Liana Storm I hope they take back the seven kingdoms
why? And Robert Baratheon was a targaryan.

aperson22222 its possible...
aperson22222 Nah I doubt it
Except Aegon VI a.k.a. Young Griff. He's no red dragon... he's a black dragon.
@Cersei Lannister Quick question, who're your top 5 picks for king/queen from the current books series? (meaning Robert and everybody after him)
@Cersei Lannister This comes from personal preference
1. Stannis Baratheon
2. Robb Stark
3. Daenerys Targaryen
4. FAegon
5. Jon Snow
Stannis has the claim and is a great commander, he'll break before he bends. Robb because he was young showed promise and a leader (but being king was his downfall) and he was on a revenge mission, I can always get behind that. Daenerys because she's like Alexander The Great when he went East freed those who were enslaved and conquered by The Persians. FAegon because he's going up against Cersei's 70,000 with only 10,000 but also has the most resourceful people around him, he's an underdog in a way. Jon, in a lot of ways is a lot like Robb but Jon is better at inspiring people to follow him.
House Tyrell is still my favorite house. With the Rose 🌹 sigil, just so sweet. But with the thorns, it's defensive and fierce.
I have been waiting for this video, Thank You!
More coming! This season is going to get epic real quickly. Hopefully we have reason to do new set of videos in between Seasons 7 and 8 :)
I think the Blood in Targaryen motto also symbolizes the Targaryen's belief in destiny. In classical medieval fantasy, the pre-destined hero is always related to some greater bloodline. We see this in Jon Snow and Daenerys except, Snow's more connection low-key.
Targaryens have the coolest banner

Felix Enderborg House Arryn is my favorite even though I don't like Lysa or Robin.
I love these vids sooo much. They are why i subbed.
Word up, thanks so much for the sub. Stick around!
Theory: three eye revan made the madking insane.. "Burn them all" meant to be burn the white walker as the three eye revan intended but constantly telling the madking in his head to burn them all, the madking made a conclusion that he should burn them all, all the people so the voice inside his head would stop. For example: hodor, when Bran was inside his head and then later back to his dream of his father as a boy.. The girl scream " hold the door" which change the future of hodor because hodor past was messed up by Bran's mistake.
I always thought of Aegon being a mixture of Alfred the Great, a mythical kind who united the kingdoms of England, and William the Conqueror, a foreign invader with a powerful force that established England as we know it and had a bloodline (though not all from the Norman House) that sat on the throne for centuries. If I'm not mistaken, House Plantagenet is a cadet branch of William's descendants... which would make for an interesting twist if the Starks and Lannisters had Targaryen blood in them.
Targaryens are the hottest

Fire and Blood also seems to be a reference to the speech Iron and Blood, which occurred after German unification) much like Westoros in this regard)
is it me or does Daenerys' eyes have a shade of violet as it does in the books in 1:09?
This makes it much more understand thanks
thoughtful and insightful video. Different from the rest, kudos! Fire signs of Targaryens to the frozen ice of the north...
Bran is the third rider because the three eyed raven told him... he will fly..
Demon Bunny nope third one is the night king
Agreed. Bran will take him back. That's been the point of his journey. Only he can wrest mental control back from the Night King.
@kai 😂 😂 we come from the future ,he's useless
Bran technically flew already, from that old tower window hehehheheh
he did, lmao
or going to idk
There is another dragon rider except he's a fucking white walker
m b the night king isn’t a white walker. A white walker is a human made a white walker by the night king. The night king is a human who was made into something else by the children of the Forrest
I'm in love with your videos! I can't wait till you guys do every other house in Westrose, Essose, and in every other movies to come🙌🏽☺️
I've got a theory that I just thought off and makes me a little bit sad: Dany eventually falls to madness and is killed. She is not one of the three dragon riders.
Watch this after s8 ep 6....
The season finale omg i was devasted, i was rooting for her since day 1 .
The ending made me so empty both for her and John. I was done. I expected a lot more but this ending emotionally was wrong for many reasons,
In defense of dany "sign posting" the masters from slavers bay, they nailed children along the road to they're city on every mile post for at least 20 posts. It was deserving in most respects.
It would've been if there was a trial to determine who was guilty or innocent.
THIS VIDEO IS BRILLIANT
Wish you would have talked about how Jon embodies the Targaryen ways.
your game of thrones videos are so awesome 🤗 I love all of them. can't wait for the next game of thrones video from you guys 🤗
Another great GOT video from ScreenPrism. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, we're definitely heads down.
I REALLY enjoy and always look forward to every Game of Thrones analysis that you do because they just open my eyes to see things that i would've never thought of; i just want more, which begs me to ask, are you going to do more house analyses? Like the bold, but stubborn stags of House Baratheon, and the beautiful, but deceptive roses of House Tyrell?
Danaerys is maybe the cutest ever. Ive been told i visibly like longingly gaze at the screen when shes on, by multiple people.
I always thought that Rhaegal was named after Dany's son Rhaego. At least that makes sense when blood magic is involved: three sacrifices for three new lives. Dany chooses to kill Drogo, Viserys and Rhaego, so the dragon's names were some kind of weird apology I guess.
Jader Moraes Rhaego was also supposed to be named after Rhaegar, so it all ends up on him anyway ;)
@@lenkaw.7243 and her mother Rhaella
She killed drogo, the witch, and her son. Viserys wasn’t apart of it.
I love so so so much Daenerys Targaryen but I must say ... I prefer to Dany from the books than from the series. In the series she's very superficial, I only see two sides of it: Demonstrating exaggerated authority or having compassion for the Jorah or her dragons.
Agreed
WHERE ARE MY *DRAGONS* ?
agreed
They ruin her complexity
What is dany like in the books?
If anyone has read the books, there is an amazing dialogue between Tyrion and Varys that truly captures the message of power from this video. They end up concluding that power is a "shadow on the wall", as its essence is the way people perceive leaders, and not the actions of the leaders themselves (anyway, this was my interpretation from something I read a couple of years ago)...
Loved it. Thanks.
