Lysa's life was tragic. She was always mentally unstable, always outshined by Catelyn (older and more beautiful), scorned by her childhood crush (LF), and married off to an old man while Catelyn married the young and kind Ned.
Just a fun add up, house Stark wasn't allways about honor...in fact the Starks have a long and bloody history. So the solemn and honorable-to-a-fault Ned Stark was result not of his northen legacy or his Stark blood, but of the role Jon Arryn paid in raising him.
I think so to the Starks have a moral code and do what's right but they comprise everything else pretty easily Ned was very different from his siblings.
True those of House Stark haven't always done the right thing, but they've done the right thing than far more often than the other houses. House Martell is the second in the running in that regard.
Came here to comment about this. Brandon and Rickard Stark, Ned's brother and father, along with Lyanna, were accurately what Stark embodies. What we have as Stark in the books' timeline is the joint product of Arryn's honor (Ned being raised in the Eyrie) and Tully's values (family, duty, honor). And it's very wrong to compare present-day Arryn's bastardization with present-day Starks when it comes to describing what Arryn is supposed to represent as a family.
Ellie G exactly like Cersei’s kids cause their Bartheons in name but not really since their Lannisters. They don’t embody Baratheon. Ned’s siblings also had wolfs blood so they would act out freely unlike Ned who was very controlled and thought everything through first.
George R.R Martin is a genius..he created an entire world..sometimes I forget it's imaginary because of how many small details there are about the houses/lands/history even languages. It really is amazing!
Agreed!! I've never seen world-building this detailed and realistic. The different houses and regions of Westeros got me interested in our own geography and how a country's climate affects its culture and economy.
@@hollywoodshopaholic you're so right! Just like even how the Ironborn have to raid and pillage because they can't grow any crops on their land..GRRM really did think of everything and I would love to learn more about our worlds geography too!
Lysa's neutrality during the War of the Five Kings felt to me like it had a purpose beyond protecting her son; I thought she was really hoping for Catelyn to die in the war. Any sisterly love was long gone on Lysa's end and she saw Cat only as a rival for Littlefinger's affections. Of course, the fact that Catelyn had five healthy children while she suffered miscarriages, stillbirths and had only poor, frail Sweetrobin bred some serious resentment on Lysa's part.
There's a theory that Lysa didn't actually miscarry, and instead she aborted all of those pregnancies because she didn't want to carry Jon's baby (she hated Jon and he didn't care at all about her, he kept rapping her because he wanted a son) and that's why Robin is so sickly and mentally challenged, his mother tried to abort him
@@TabbyeLynne I don't think that theory's true. I think Lysa Arryn is not the Cersei Lannister type; she would have wanted lots of kids, no matter who the father was. I think she really wanted a child, and became more unstable as the years went by mostly because of her fertility trouble. It's implied she blamed her father for it; she conceived just fine with Littlefinger, but Hoster forced an abortion on her. The fact that she had so much difficulty having a healthy child probably made her think that something had gone wrong inside of her and deepened her hatred of her family. Also, Sweetrobin doesn't seem mentally challenged to me; he's a brat, absolutely.
Robin isn’t that stunted. The reason that the Knights of the Vale saved House Stark was because of basic decency; Robin said Sansa was his cousin and he needed to help her just because.
Robin actually grows into something worthy of the name Lord Arryn. By the end of the series, he sits at the council meeting in a relaxed and somewhat “above it all” matter. But when the time comes to choose the king, he doesn’t offer to take the crown. Either he doesn’t care or he has finally understood what honorable behavior is.
Robin with Lysa and Petyr's council - terribly spoilt, stupid and entitled Robin with Yohn Royce's council - an honourable leader and good warden of the east If GoT told us anything, it's that behaviour is a nurtured trait. The best children had the best role models and parental figures to guide them.

@@josephwright4222 um, there are countless examples of inherited personality features throught the whole series
I actually really like the small touch of Robin growing into a good and honourable young man. It really shows nurture Vs nature. He was just a product of his mother's paranoia and insanity but when raised by the right people he took on their ideals
@@lasttoparty7570 That sounds like a dangerous job. What if you're in the middle of cleaning and someone dumps another body? Or what if "Sweet Robin" throws a small rock just for fun? @@won1853 The fall from the Moon Door to the valley floor is several hundreds of feet. If you take the wind into consideration, the chance of any two objects falling in the exact same place is very small. They'll likely be blown away a good distance from each other.
A Tully never should have married an Arryn. After all, as the saying goes, a bird may love a fish, but where will they build a home together? That's really reflected in the families if you think about it. The Arryns are above it all, safe and not wanting to get involved in earthly things. The Tullys don't have a choice and so they are very pragmatic.
Me Yeah....no. Liza does NOT speak for the rest of the Tullys. The Tully’s live in the middle of a war zone. Literally. Liza was self fish. And cruel. She doesn’t deserve to be considered a “Tully”
Umm ok wolfs eat fish so in that aspect ned should have been horrible and beat and raped cat a wolf can marry a fish either but I see nothing wrong in there marriage plus hustor fucked up lysa fertility if he had not she may have had the sane amount of healthy Kids as catelyn but lysa should yes if grotton LF but then LF would never have been happy as he wanted catelyn but catelyn wanted Brandon whom was taken from her all because his sister was to stupid to at least tell one family member wtf she was doing .
Lemonade lemon umm Edmure dose not either in this aspect the blackfish is the only true tully by name but he’s still fake sansa needed him yet he would not go with brienn there house words even started diluting the older generations .
Lysa was mentally unstable from her childhood but she did love her son very deeply in the end. The only reason she stayed out of the war was so she could keep Robin safe.
@LagiNaLangAko23 I agree but it would still be nice to watch a video about the topic in my opinion. Maybe in my times reading the books maybe i missed something or they think of something a different way then i did. Nothing in these books is simple or a throw away line.
@LagiNaLangAko23 That's true! the reach is the most populous region in Westeros and Dorne is literally known for never being conquered by the Targaryens and only recently coming into the fold through marriage. The names may be somewhat self-expanatory, but there's something to be said there. Plus even within the bastard names, there's such a range of ways these bastards behave. Both Ramsay and Jon are snow but are completely different in demeanor and values.
What I find interesting about the different aristocratic bastards is how they are treated different in the Seven Kingdoms, particularly the Sands in Dorne. Something that is mentioned in the books is that commoners don't have surnames, so if Gendry had been recognised by Robert Baratheon as his illegitimate son he would Waters, but as it is he's Gendry the Blacksmith...
All this GoT content in the past few weeks is just extraordinary. Brilliant in all senses. I'm predicting that next we might have something about House Tully.
I know we are short on Arryns but Lysa is a horrible choice for a character study on them. She didn’t want to be an Arryn and was married because of the alliance between the Tullys and the Arryns and Starks. She resented her father for making her abort her baby with Littlefinger; she resented her sister for being the object of Littlefinger’s affection and for being better liked and I can’t think of why but she probably had some issue with her brother too. She was married to an old man who she didn’t know because her father needed the alliance and Jon needed an heir. She’s a horrible choice to use for a look in on the Arryns because her personality and outlook is very much tied to growing up being a Tully at Riverrun prior to and during Robert’s Rebellion. It wasn’t so much being an Arryn that made Lysa crazy it was the build up of feeling as though everything in her life was against her and then finally feeling as though she’s free to do what she wants now that she has power and her husband’s dead. And Lysa has always been bad at seeing through Littlefinger - as a child at Riverrun she seriously couldn’t tell he preferred her sister to her.
Your comments on Lysa are totally accurate, but due to shortage of true Arryns, there aren't enough characters that are as fleshed out in the show as Lysa. Jon dies at the beginning, Sweetrobin is just a child with no true power or influence over the plot, and Harold Hardyng was cut from the show. That being said, I found their observations to be pretty accurate when it comes to the nobility in the Vale as a whole. Almost every house in the Vale (the Waynewooods, the Corbrays, the Royces) are extremely proud of their Andal ancestry, they are all arrogant, lofty, they perceive themselves as "honorable" and above it all, but in reality they are all schemers who want to use Sweetrobin and Harry the Heir as pawns for their own personal gain. That being said, Jon Arryn did embody everything that was good about House Arryn.
Ikr? And did they entirely miss that part (which is in the clip) where Tyrion says "she has changed. She had always been a bit touched". Lysa had always been mentally unstable. Having her children died either through abortion or miscarriages, pushed her over the edge. But she was never quite sane.
I felt sorry for Lysa too - at least the book version. It was fairly clear that unlike Ned and Cat, there was no love in her marriage to Jon, just a rather cold duty on both sides. (Not that that excuses Lysa's actions in murdering him!)
I think Starks are not really honorable. Ned was just raised by Jon Arryn. The Northeners acts more like wild-lings than medieval nights. :) Yes, they had the whole pack of "the north remembers", but I think their general culture is not a honorable as Ned. His elder brother act brute, violent and impulsive. So I think the whole Starks are honorable only came from Ned because he was raised by Jon Arryn and then that how he raised his children. :)
I think that the Starks have a kind of honor that just does not work well with the frippery and stratagem of people in the South. The Northeners are plain spoken and, to put it charitably, naive. However, everyone in the North comments that as long as the Starks are ruling the North (as opposed to the cruel, psychopaths the Boltons) there will be peace and safety for everyone. If you think about it, they are the oldest and most Noble house in all of Westeros. They could've taken over and unite all of Westeros, instead they are content to live in the North. Considering their history of thousands of years, that is a duty that is very honorable. Their saying: "Winter is coming" is their sacred duty to the realm of men. It was the founder of House Stark (Bran the Builder) who built the Wall to protect all of Westeros from Whitewalkers. Even after many people have forgotten that the WW are real. The Northeners are the first people that suffers the ravages and marauding parties of wildlings, the first to suffer and defend attacks by the WW (I'm not talking about the Night's Watch, but the Northern region in general), and the brunt of long winters. There must always be a Stark at Winterfell, and I believe this has a spiritual/mystical meaning as well as political. Hopefully, in the last season they will divulge what it means (I suspect something to do with Starks having the bloodline of a WW).
I definitely think Ned got his ideas about honour and living that kind of way from Jon Arryn the Starks do what's right even if it compromises their honour whereas even House Tully is actually more honourable and dutiful. Lysa never embodied either House Tully or Arryn. I wish we knew more about Jon Arryn but of what we do he seemed like a great man.
I like how everyone judges the Starks by the standards set by Ned when in reality he was more of an aberration as opposed to the norm. The Starks are characteristically unruly and reckless, much like the North generally (Stannis noted to Jon Snow that Robert Baratheon would mention how hard it was to rule them, even with Ned Stark, whom they loved), embodying what is called the "Wolf Blood". Brandon and Lyanna had the Wolf Blood, which explains the former stupidly marching all the way south only with a few friends, and the latter absconding a married Dragon (to be fair to Lyanna, Arya is said to be greatly like her which should give an understanding of how wild and untempered she was, much like her older brother). To illustrate how atypical Ned was, he was nicknamed the "Quiet Wolf" whereas his older brother was nicknamed the "Wild Wolf" and Lyanna the "Wolf Maid". Catelyn, was first betrothed to marry Brandon, noted how wild he was and how Ned was someone people never spoke of at all, since he was the quiet sort. Starks from history: King Theon "The Hungry Wolf" Stark: a gaunt man who was known for constantly being at war. If my memory serves me correctly, he also was King as the Andal invasion was occurring, defeating Argos Sevenstar-while allying with the Boltons-and then sailing to Andalos with Argos's body tied to the front of his ship and destroying hundreds of villages, as well as septs and capturing forts, and displaying the severed heads of his victims on the coastline to deter his enemies. Imagine Ned doing that! You also had King Brandon the Bad, someone from whom much isn't known but with a name like that, I think it's safe to assume he was not exactly a good guy. And then there's King Brandon "Ice Eyes" who recaptured the Wolf's Den from slavers originating from the Stepstones during a long, cruel winter. He stripped the slavers naked and gave them to the ex-slaves chained up in the dungeon. I think you get the picture...The North is a hard place to live in and the logic goes that it's inhabits are hard people who've adapted to living in it. Ned Stark is more Arryn than a Stark when it comes to honour, though there were honourable Starks before him like Cregan Stark.
Lysa and cat should have been switched but u kinda blame the father if he had not given her moon tea she might have had as many kids as cat making a very different lysa . Lysa’s mental health failed her where as we kinda see this with cat as each struggle with her kids gets harder till robb does die and she thinks suicide is her next best I bet u house fray would have married her off two Tully’s in there heaps would have made walder pretty much in charge of riverrun but catelyn was not having it .
@ Geography is a necessary, but not a sufficient condition for isolationism. I'd say what protected House Arynn was that they actually *used* their geography for a fitting strategy.
I think The Vale was noninterventionist and not isolationist. I’m pretty sure cities like Gulltown, which is a main port city under House Grafton, who is loyal to House Arryn, traded and kept diplomatic relations with people in the seven kingdoms and Essos.
Well, considering that his first wife died (in childbirth if I'm not mistaken), Lisa is a Tully, had an abortion via medieval potions and 13-14 (at the latest) has likely been consistently aborting her elderly husband's children (or otherwise using prophylactic measures to stop his seed from quickening, likely damaging her fertility further) AND the likelihood that Robin Arryn is really Little Finger's bastard. I would say it's not really Jon Arryn's fault that he hasn't had children.
The Targaryens should have even worse problems due to inbreeding, the analogous brother-sister and cousin marriages of the Egyptian pharaohs caused all sorts of problems, Tutankhamen being a famous example. It evidently is a world where genetics and incest work differently. It could be that the Valerian blood of the Targaryens makes incest less bad for them. Which could explain why incest is taboo for people who aren't Targaryen. Kind of like how some video games have fantasy races with resistance to poison or cold, they seem to have resistance to sickness in the books, and possibly that includes genetic deformities.
@@lostinthestorywithjeremymi9385 Stark' defining quality was never 'being noble '.I think because Ned was fostered under Jon Arryn it became so and he taught his children the same.Brandon , Lyanna ,Ricard were never called noble but Wild, with Wolves Blood.Infact Ricard Stark was fairly ambitious and political making ties with Tully Baretheons and Arryn.
If you lick the lichen off the rocks of the vale, they'll get you as high as honor. Normally Lord Robin would be too young to take it, but Lysa's milk is full of the stuff, so the little Lord is very high.
Wish they would’ve included Sansa’s Erie storyline from the books. Oh well, can’t wait to see what happens for her in The Winds of Winter. Thank y’all for including this house!!🦅
That's the thing about the books: George RR Martin can include as many long drawn out subplots as he can because he does not have the same constraints as the writers of the show
Rey Mustayne it absolutely does. The show is mostly annual, a season per year. GRRM for however great his books are, does not have that same crunch to get everything together in a single year.
I mean...what plot points from Sansa's storyline from Feast would you want to see? It's not like a lot happens - she learns from LF, becomes Robin's new mom and takes a trek down the mountain. I don't think showing the Sansa/Robin relationship would be good TV; no offense to the young actor who plays Robin but I'm not sure anyone's really asking for more screen time from him.
Bradford Le - True. I actually meant it would have been great if they could’ve used the released Alayne chapters in Winds of Winter GRRM has shared, which includes potentially marrying her off to Harry the Heir.
I did sort of feel sorry for Lysa. Women who are forced into arranged marriages and feel no love for who they marry feel a sense of dread and unhappiness. This is what partly yet definitely led to her anger, paranoia, and disconnection. She wanted to be with someone she loved/lusted for and those feelings were denied by the world around her. (Granted you can argue about the decisions she made, but there's a feeling of despair that came with her life.)
She threatend tyrion and basically ignited the war of the five kings. Not to mention she spread her legs for a slimy whoremonger while she was still married.
The Vale is my favorite of all the 'kingdoms'. When I first read the books the part where Catelyn and her men brought Tyrion up to the Vale was my favourite part. GRRM described every detail wonderfully and even provided a lot of backstory about the Bloody Gate and the statue with the tears. Awesome stuff.
Between ''Sweet Robin's'' behavior and that scene,I got the feeling that it would be FAR better for the Vale if someone chucked that little monster out the Moon Door before he came of age and considering that his Mother was more than half mad the sooner the better.
You gotta remember that true honor gets you nowhere too. Ned Stark, being the honorable man that he was, told Cersei that he knew about her secrets and that he planned to tell the king. That got him killed. Jon later channeling that honor and honesty told Cersei that he'd already bent the knee to Dany and that nearly lost her support. Of course she plans to betray them all anyway.
In the context of it all Cersei is the stupid one because this is NOT a game of thrones anymore it’s survival 101. The era of plotting and scheming has died, that was another time completely and only Cersei is the only one who still hasn’t evolved from that yet. Jon is self aware enough to admit honesty was the thing that got Ned killed yet he still remains on telling the truth because he’s right. Lying isn’t a productive art form. It gets nowhere. It ties into Littlefinger’s philosophy that chaos is a ladder and many who climb, fail and never try again. It’s pointless in a time where the fate of the world is at stake. That attitude has lost its purpose all-together. Cersei betraying them would only backfire on her because either two things happen. Dany and Jon die and join the Night King to March against Cersei, or they win…… and still March for Cersei. She if anything is the one out of touch and her betrayal backfired on her like I just said.
I Want Robert ”Robin” Arryn To Grow UP & Mature. After That Happens He Will Become A Formidable Warrior That Will Embody The Combat Prowess Of Robert Baratheon His Namesake & The Values Of His Father Jon Arryn. I Just Want Him To Embody What His House Truly Stands For
Liitle chance of that. He's always been very coddled, which is a big part of why he turned out bratty and selfish. But I am right there with you hoping that Sweetrobin will stop being the tool of Sansa and Littlefinger and gain some agency and independence.
Why Do You Put Majs At Every Word? XD And yeah, like last to party, I highly doubt Robin Arryn will become a great warrior one day. I bet Robin will be a key figure in season 8, due to the fact that no one would expect it . Also The story started with John Arryn, why not end it with his son.
@@continuousself-improvement1879 In the book it was fairly clear she got pregnant by Littlefinger while a teenager, her dad made her abort, then married her to John, whose wife had recently died and was the sort of man not to care that his new wife was already "despoiled"
I think Robin/Robert is really a Baelish not an Arryn. He is small, cowardly, weak and sickly...unlike Jon Arryn who was strong, fit, and a warrior. But exactly like little finger. It makes perfect sense for little finger to plant his seed in a garden of power and explains how sick lysa's relationship is with her son. He's little finger junior, not the lord of the vale at all. That is why the house is so different from its reputation. With Jon's death the bloodline died with him. Lysa always loved Baelish which is why she had so many miscarriages and still borns because those were the children of Jon and we all know that Westeros has moon tea for birth termination. She only wanted Baelish's child to replace her original child with him her father forced her to abort with moon tea. The baby she wanted with the man she wanted so poetic justice would be to do the same to Jon's offspring. There aren't any Arryns left. Petyr played the long game. Jon knew about Petyr and employed him anyways as master of coin at Lysa's behest probably in an attempt to keep them apart. Ultimately she did get the chance to conceive with Baelish as they had the chance to plot against Jon. The incentive to kill Jon for her would be to unite father and son together in the vale keeping the titles money and power. Petyr was small, sickly and weak as a child.
When I heard falcon, I first thought of the Peregrine Falcon. This is still fitting. While seemingly with their heads in the clouds, they can quickly “dive” back to earth to take out whatever has provoked them. Just like how a peregrine falcon usually dives to catch its prey.
Sebastian Bass Bronn had the choice of wearing metal, but he didn’t because he wanted to stay quick and not tire out, since his plan was to make Ser Vardis get tired. The idea of honorable combat in Westeros is for 2 armored men to go at it with sword and shield, and only use strength rather than guile to win.
I don't know why, but the Arryn house reminds me of Solitude from Skyrim. everything from the city atop a cliff (of sorts), the falcon (Solitude's infamous Eagle), and the city's name (in relation to the Arryn's house tactic of solitude) But that's just me
I know we don't see a lot of them but can we get a video on House Dayne? It's one of my favorite houses and Ser Arthur Dayne only gets a single appearence in the whole show.
When all was said and done, only House Arryn was at full strength at the end of the series. It's doubtful if even the Dothraki stand a chance (after their miracle deus-ex survival of getting wiped out in the long night)
What a great video! Really hoping for something significant about House Arryn by the end of the show. It might be that Robin is a good surprise, rising up to his father's legacy.
Interesting tidbit: Due to the Knights of the Vale not participating in the War of the Five Kings, that makes them presumably the strongest army (at the moment) left in Westeros, not counting the forces Dany brought with her from Essos.
The fact she killed Jon to be with little finger is literally the best representation of her absolute craziness. I hated her tbh plus her breastfeeding her kid when he’s old enough to be independent is so gross. Little finger really started this whole thing, he has the highest death body count only rivaled by dany. Ugh I wish I could watch the whole show again😢
Catelyn's marriage to Ned wasn't arranged per se. She was intended for his brother, but after the Mad King killed Ned's father and brother, he had to keep up the Starks' end of the bargain, so he married Cat
Im not a book reader of A Song of Ice and Fire (Yet!), but I'd love a video background on Tarth where Brienne originated from. ☺ I know not much has gone in depth with her heritage from the TV series so it would be interesting to see the House where she got her deeply rooted honor, loyalty and perseverance came from
I love Brienne, and my thoughts on her is she is a Targaryen. I have researched who her mother was and she is not mentioned much. I think she could have been a Targaryen. Her father was a player who had several lovers after Brienne's mother. Although he was a player he seemed to genuinely love his daughter and raised her as his son so to speak, teaching her to fight as she wasn't that appealing to prospective suitors. She would have to defend her own honour.
I’d love a video about house Forrester from the telltale series. It considered part of the show universe so it shouldn’t hurt your usual approach. House blackfyre is also awesome
Good stuff! Every time I see the Vale Mountain Clans (and the other, more northern mountain clans), I want to learn more about them. They are, after all, the "south of the Wall" version of Westeros' wildlings. They are more First Men than I believe even the Arryns are. 😊🏝️🌺❤️
Well, the First Men's descendants are also the Stark ^^ House Arryn did not pretend to be the first men to have landed Westeros, they said they descend from the first obles of the Andals, those who conquerred Westeros from the First Men ;)
@@krankarvolund7771 Yes. But, people (inside the story & readers/watchers of the series) forget that the Arryns are Andals. They were kings for many generations, that I think the history of them were lost and/or forgotten, and now the real first men are treated the same way that the wildlings north of the wall are treated - like they don't belong.
@@angie-tq4ew You mean, except in the North ^^ But I think they're treated like that mainly because they choose to live as barbarians. They could become farmers and peasants, like almost all First Men in Westeros, and they would have been accepted by the Vale ;)
I think Lysa’s isolation from her other family members who were her social equals exacerbated her maladaptive behavior. I love how you talk about the importance of extended family in this video. I’ll never understand the nuclear family only mindset in North America. It’s so socially isolating. My cousins are like my sisters and my best friends. The bigger your family network, the better.
Littlefinger’s death was the most dishonest (along with Ser Barristan Selmy) in the whole show. A true villain who’s demise came by children, and his death being premature- it would’ve been great to see him in the final season, so I hope he is alive with the changing face theory
I think part of the point in his death at the time that it came was it was a way of saying "the game" is over, that it's time for everyone to seriously pay attention to the larger concern of basic survival. Of course, not that Cersei won't still be trying to play it to some degree because she's friggin insane...
What Lysa didn’t know is that every hint of his entire being pointed to Robin being weak and sickly, which in the world of Ice and Fire made him indestructible.
@Laverne Blaszczyk no he wasn't. He didn't abandoned his own niece. The frey captured him and he was lucky to be alive. He died with honor in his own home.
@Laverne Blaszczyk a chance to die with honor?? How? By dying in the battlefield with jon? That castle is his home mate. He die in his own home not by surrendering but fighting to defend it. ALONE
7:05 - whaaaat? What goes around comes around? This flies in the face of everything Martin's story has to say on the subject. Did Ned Stark deserve his fate? Martin emphasizes time and again that how honorable a character is has NOTHING to do with his fate. To see Lyssa's death as poetic or deserved and just is wrong-headed. Her death is a tragedy. She's a victim of her own faults. She is NOT a victim of karma.
As much as i have loved GoT i'll admit that some of these facts from the first season sort of faded from my memory. Seeing all of this now layed out in the video, one could argue that Littlefinger alone was the catalyst that jump started the events of the war and the conflicts of the show since season 1. ****Before continuing - The Night is Dark and full of Spoilers**** Ned Stark going to and then dying in Kings landing jump started the rise of the northern rebellion which directly caused the deaths of Robb and Cat, the misery of Sansa and Arya, and the usurpation of Winterfell by the Boltons. The lack of a competent hand led to the lannister plotting which led directly to the death of Robert and Ned which opened a power vacuum by Roberts brothers and the rise of Joffrey, Tommen, and eventually Cersei as the holders of the throne. This war led to situations in which Tyrion grew to want more respect by his father who would only go on to descard him further before Tywins death and Tyrions banishment which arguably helped Dany grow her forces and influence due to having a strong advisor and later hand through Tyrion. Jon having been the one who would take back Winterfell as the new head of house stark would become King in the North with both Ned and Robb gone. All of this and more because Littlefinger had Lysa poison Jon Arryn.
I like the Arryns. They have a nice value of high minded honor. Thier remote location would provide good protection in the fight. I would like to see more of Arryns in the show. The Arryns are people that live in the mountains and they stay out of wars. They remind me of Switzerland. I link Arryn with spirtual order. The spiritual part is the honerable nature. The order part is the rigidity of an honerable code and the security in the Vale. Together spiritual and order combine to form spiritual. I usually associate spiritual with religion and art. The Arryns are not quite like that. However they are on of the closest Westeros houses to go there. THey have an abstract and idealistic code of honor. They are far removed for grounded reality. The removal also makes them a very peaceful, perhaps the most peaceful house. It is a miracle that they can maintain peace and protection as well as they do, considering how violent the show is. The spiritual order Enneagram type is 9. It fits Arryn pretty well. 9 is the most peaceful type. They value harmony in a group as opposed to personal dominance. They are removed from their basal aggressions. The strength of 9 is maintaing harmony even by standing up for themselves. This is like how Jon Arryn was such a good hand of the king. He did help maintain peace and stability to Westeros when he was hand of the king. This is like how the Arryns helped the Starks in the Battle of the Basterds. Yes, it was a violent event. However it was worth it as it helps the Starks restore power. The Starks are a lot more harmonius and a lot less brutal than the Boltons. The weakness of 9 is they are doormats. They let others take advantage of them, and harm them. THey also tend to be absentminded. In the show, Littlefinger is perhaps the biggest threat to the Arryns. He killed both Jon and Lysa Arryn. It was really messed up when he was lord of the vale. Littlefinger is one of the most dishonerable characters in the show. He is a clear sign that the Arryns have succumed to curruption. It is like letting Cersei or Tywin Lannister take over the north and the stark home. Despite that Lysa Arryn welcomes Littlefinger in with open arms. There is a cruel paradox. Lysa is so paranoid and afraid of danger. Yet she let in the one person that caused so much harm. This is like being a doormat. Eventually the Starks exposed and executed Littlefinger for his crimes. In a way, it is a nice payback for the help in the Battle of the Bastards. The sixth chakra is the third eye. It is linked to psychic powers and visions. The sixth step is sublimation. The stuff is evaporated in gasses. The associated planet is the moon. It is linked to feminine and emotions. The associated metal is silver. It is like the light of the moon, and it is a feminine metal. The Arryns are like the third eye in that they have idealistic visions of honor. Its high airy location is like the gassy sublimation process. The sigil has the moon, which obviously fits the moon as in the planet. Moon used to be considered a planet, but it isn't anymore. Arryn and Greyjoy are opposites. Arryn is spiritual order which mixes to form spiritual. Greyjoy is physical freedom which mixes to form physical. There is a huge difference. The Greyjoys are into materialism and violence. they steal in a frenzy. The Arryns are into idealism and peace. They are stable in thier honor. The Arryn is associated with the air element. Thier home of the Vale is high up in the mountains, where there is a lot of air. Air is associated with abstract things. Traditionally it is linked to intellectual. Personally I like to link it to spiritual, which contrasts the physical nature of earth. This fits the Arryn tendency to have abstract ideals of honor. There are three airy elements: air, cosmic, and electric. Cosmic is even further removed from reality. It is in outer space. The Martells have cosmic. That does reflect that they are the most unique house. They have a very different culture, and they are the last to join the Seven Kingdoms. The focus and short term vitality of the Martells is like shooting for the stars. Electric is the element that is closest to earth. Lighting bolts start in the air and strike the ground. The Barathons are like electric. The shock of electricity fits thier violent angry nature. The difference of the Baratheon brothers could reflect the travel. Robert is into carnal pleasure, so he is like lightning on the ground. Stannis is into firey religion, so he is like lightning in the sky. Renly is into the sweet kind Tyrells, so he is like the connecting part of the lightning. The Arryns and Martells have a bit of idealism. However Barathons are different in that they are focused on action. The Arryn has a falcon as thier animal. Birds like falcons can fly and so are strongly connected with the air element. Peregrin falcons are the fastest animals in the world. That can be like the agile mind that comes up with abstract ideas. A perigrine falcon hunts its prey by swooping down on it really fast. The impact alone can kill. This is like how the Arryns like to kill thier enemies by dropping them at a hight. They have thier sky cells and moon doors. Pergrigine falcons live in cliffs in the wild. They can also live in cities. Perigrine falcons eat pidgeons. So they provide a great service to the city in the form of pest control. I like to think of peregrine falcons as cats with wings. It is mainly due to pest control. Recently I figured that another similarity is that their swoop is like a cat's pounce. The Arryns homeland of the Vale is like peregrin falcon's homland of cliffs and cities. They provide a great service to the realm just as perigrin falcons provide a great service to the city. Littlefiner like to use a mokingbird as his animal. However a really great way to insult him is to call him a pidgeon. Littlefinger has his sneeky and dirty ways. So he is like rats with wings.
I disagree, I feel like the Eyrie in general is a symbol for isolationism and paranoia. Remember that the entrance to the Eyrie is known as the Bloody Gate, due to its narrow pass flanked by tall cliffs. It is an impregnable citadel as Tyrion said. I think a lot of people look at what happened to Lysa as her always being batshit crazy, but I think the aloof culture of the Vale turned her into a schizophrenic freak. The capital of the Vale in itself is symbolism of how security is a downfall, Lysa Arryn is in fact a bird trapped within a cage. You constantly hear reference to this impenetrable safety - even from a simpleton like Robin when he states angrily that no one can hurt them. The morality referenced in their motto is Martin being ironic, and I think Jon was an exception (don't forget that his name predates him). Think like: too honorable to help the lowly commoners of the Realm.
Thank you for creating so many great videos! It's really refreshing to see such amazing content created by women, as channels ran by a woman/women tend to be all too rare, unfortunately.
The battle technique used in "The Battle of the Bastards" is called "The Hammer and the Anvil". The forces of Jon are the "Anvil". The Knights of the Vale are the "Hammer"; and what is caught between them is either crushed or proves its strength. The forces of Ramsey were crushed!
Who else knew that House Stark was once at war with House Arryn over a bunch of islands and that a Bolton made his tent out of the flayed skins of Vale men?
I feel like the entire Vale got neglected. We never really saw anything of they’re house (anything of interest anyway). We never really saw the Vale even though the Knights of the Vale are famed warriors. It’s just kinda sad.
I honestly think Robin's growth was stunted due to poor nutrition. Once he started eating properly and being treated age appropriately intellect wise he would be alright.
Jon still haven't bent the knee and if he has then every house in the north will forsake him and probably make Sansa queen so no the vale doesn't serve the targaryens. Just pointing that out
Cersei Lannister wanted Lord Arryn to die to protect her secret relationship with her brother. She hired Littlefinger to see it was taken care of. Littlefinger, knowing Lysa wanted to get rid of Jon Arryn to be with him, gave Lysa the poison to put into Lord Arryn's wine and kill him. I think that's the way it went. So basically, the Lannister's did kill Jon Arryn.

Feels like we never got the true house Arryn, we just got the worst parts of house tully
Zephyrus_anim8 --Good point
Very true
Lysa's life was tragic. She was always mentally unstable, always outshined by Catelyn (older and more beautiful), scorned by her childhood crush (LF), and married off to an old man while Catelyn married the young and kind Ned.
Continuous Self-Improvement Yeah like Jon Arryn was a father to her brother in law
And house little finger
No wonder ned acted like some pushover. The ruthless streak of the ancient kings of winter has sadly dulled until recently with sansa and arya.
Yeah, that's all good and stuff but WHEN'S THE FREAKING WINDS OF WINTER?!!
On the long list of things I would call Martin, A genius is not one of them.
Though this might be the fact that the Dothraki are angry essay inducing.
hollywoodshopaholic it’s a shame that’s what it took but we all have our inspirations
Of course, the fact that Catelyn had five healthy children while she suffered miscarriages, stillbirths and had only poor, frail Sweetrobin bred some serious resentment on Lysa's part.
last to party Agree
@@lasttoparty7570 I think he only seems mentally challenged because his mother has been exclusively teaching him, and she's certainly not well.
last to party Yh that was littlefingers plan
god, that shot of tyrion almost rolling out of the sky cell makes my hands sweat every time. so terrifying
Me 2
When I watched it for the first time, I had nightmares 🥲
Robin isn’t that stunted.
The reason that the Knights of the Vale saved House Stark was because of basic decency; Robin said Sansa was his cousin and he needed to help her just because.
Robin actually grows into something worthy of the name Lord Arryn. By the end of the series, he sits at the council meeting in a relaxed and somewhat “above it all” matter. But when the time comes to choose the king, he doesn’t offer to take the crown. Either he doesn’t care or he has finally understood what honorable behavior is.
Robin with Lysa and Petyr's council - terribly spoilt, stupid and entitled
Robin with Yohn Royce's council - an honourable leader and good warden of the east
If GoT told us anything, it's that behaviour is a nurtured trait.
There must be a large pile of body parts below the moon door by now
It's not seen in the show, but House Royce of the Gates of the Moon is assigned cleanup duty.
Some must be skeletons by now
Well, considering that the Vale is full of cougars, I'm not sure they will last there for a long time :p
@@lasttoparty7570 That sounds like a dangerous job. What if you're in the middle of cleaning and someone dumps another body? Or what if "Sweet Robin" throws a small rock just for fun? I've lived on 18th floor before and basically everything can be a murder weapon with the help of gravity. Even a sandwich. Not that I've killed anyone. I don't even like sandwich. Not at all...
The actor who played Robin did a great job, very unsettling creepy child in Series 1 despite becoming quite dashing by the finale.
I love this serious of videos. Maybe one on the bastard names ( Flowers, Hill, Pyke, Rivers, Sand, Snow, Stone, Storm, and Waters )?
@LagiNaLangAko23 just because the names are simple doesnt mean that there cant be some kind of deeper symbolism in the story as a whole now does it?
I'd watch that video
What I find interesting about the different aristocratic bastards is how they are treated different in the Seven Kingdoms, particularly the Sands in Dorne. Something that is mentioned in the books is that commoners don't have surnames, so if Gendry had been recognised by Robert Baratheon as his illegitimate son he would Waters, but as it is he's Gendry the Blacksmith...
All this GoT content in the past few weeks is just extraordinary. Brilliant in all senses. I'm predicting that next we might have something about House Tully.
Lord Reyne of Castemere i’ve got good news for you lol
@@heynerohere7893 I know right!😁😁😁😁
Lord Reyne of Castemere 🤣🤣
Josh Arguello I completely understand and agree with you on that most of the observations are accurate. I suppose I’m just being picky.
@@jessicamarshall1975 All of us GoT/ASoIaF fans are nitpicky. So, I totally get it. Nitpicking at the details is what makes this series so much fun. ☺
Well said! I agree.
Honor was the arynn's thing. House stark was more about justice and fairness, done with a firm hand.
His children acts like that because of their parents, mostly with their mother (A tully) caring for them.
Lol what? That’s it? What you complain about is what disqualifies [specifically] House Starks as honorable? Lol so sensitive
Starks from history:
King Theon "The Hungry Wolf" Stark: a gaunt man who was known for constantly being at war.
Isolationism might not be their better trait but it's the only reason why their kingdom is one of the only ones that didn't get ravaged
@ yeah that too
@ Geography is a necessary, but not a sufficient condition for isolationism.

The most noble of all the Houses. Though it is usually lead by weak children.
Most noble? I think that goes to House Stark.
@@TheRachaelLefler Apparently it didn't (at least not usually), some Targaryens were capable warriors and leaders (men and women).

Lysa is Tully born, cant blame the Arryn's for her behavior, they didnt raise her.

@@littledikkins2 Lol. True.

XD
And yeah, like last to party, I highly doubt Robin Arryn will become a great warrior one day. In fact, I highly doubt Robin Arryn will survive to the age of man, he is a little feeble child who can be killed by any disease, if he did not die from one of its strokes ^^
in the book hes going to die hes weak as piss house arryn is dead
@@avarma6313 Well, there's still Harry the Heir, Harold Hardlyng, the grand-son of the sister of Jon Arryn. He had Arryn blood in his veins and will surely took the name Arryn if he receive the Eyrie ^^
@@krankarvolund7771 A lot of fans believe Harry Hardyng will die very quickly in TWOW and Sweetrobin will survive. Besides, it's Harry the Arse; Sansa can't find a single redeeming feature in him other that 'he's hot'.
Game of Thrones Symbolism: House Dayne PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.....
They aren't in the show much. So not much to work with.
"Penetrated by dishonour". What wordsmithing lmao.
And Sansa got to hear it all.
Dishonor*
"You don't fight with honor !"
"No... he did"
HAHAHAHA => Bronn you're the bestest !!!
Nirvana and Game of Thrones.
A+
I love you guys. I really do.
Finally, you have granted our request after nearly more than a year or so 😊
You guys need some kind of award for the amazing analysis you do!!!
Oh wow I really love these segments with Game of Thrones’ Houses. I actually thought we’d get no more so this is a great surprise!! Thank you for uploading!!!!!!
And what's the take on SweetRobin pulling a Neville?
I bet Robin will be a key figure in season 8, due to the fact that no one would expect it . Also The story started with John Arryn, why not end it with his son.
I thought Robin was secretly Littlefinger's son? Or did I understand it wrong?
Your channel is like fresh air on UA-cam. Thanks so much for your analysis.
*I really want to see videos on Mad Max Fury Road
When I heard falcon, I first thought of the Peregrine Falcon. This is still fitting. While seemingly with their heads in the clouds, they can quickly “dive” back to earth to take out whatever has provoked them. Just like how a peregrine falcon usually dives to catch its prey.
Love it house tully next please
Jayson Bonita Didn't they do it already?
Or are you talking about the late Lady of Winterfell / Stark?
The day when both Screen Prism and AltShift X post videos 💕💕
"...the most cartoonishly dishonorable man." Classic! cheers
What’s so honorable about a fully armored knight with a shield fighting a man with just a sword and leather?
Sebastian Bass Bronn had the choice of wearing metal, but he didn’t because he wanted to stay quick and not tire out, since his plan was to make Ser Vardis get tired. The idea of honorable combat in Westeros is for 2 armored men to go at it with sword and shield, and only use strength rather than guile to win.
I don't know why, but the Arryn house reminds me of Solitude from Skyrim. everything from the city atop a cliff (of sorts), the falcon (Solitude's infamous Eagle), and the city's name (in relation to the Arryn's house tactic of solitude)
But that's just me
Children of the Forrest are wood elves
Brilliant, Well written, extremely well narrated.
I know we don't see a lot of them but can we get a video on House Dayne? It's one of my favorite houses and Ser Arthur Dayne only gets a single appearence in the whole show.
Which house's symbolism are you going to cover next? I'd like to see Karstark, Umber, Florent and Hightower.
@LagiNaLangAko23 u mean nothing? I think we didn't even got a name drop
The one of the good things I can see in S8 is that Robin is HANDSOME
Omg, sticking around until the end was totally worth it! Definitely subscribing!
You guessed right 😊
I always questioned weather or not Robin is even Jon arryn’s biological son!
The book makes it sounds like he is
He is undoubtedly littlefinger’s bastard.
Interesting tidbit: Due to the Knights of the Vale not participating in the War of the Five Kings, that makes them presumably the strongest army (at the moment) left in Westeros, not counting the forces Dany brought with her from Essos.
Nirvana in a Game of Thrones video? This channel has my respect now ✌
The fact she killed Jon to be with little finger is literally the best representation of her absolute craziness.
Yay! House Arrynn
Finally! I’ve been hoping for AGES that you were going to do videos of the other houses! Keep it up!
Good stuff!
Every time I see the Vale Mountain Clans (and the other, more northern mountain clans), I want to learn more about them. They are, after all, the "south of the Wall" version of Westeros' wildlings. They are more First Men than I believe even the Arryns are.
😊🏝️🌺❤️
Well, the First Men's descendants are also the Stark ^^
House Arryn did not pretend to be the first men to have landed Westeros, they said they descend from the first obles of the Andals, those who conquerred Westeros from the First Men ;)
@@krankarvolund7771 Yes. But, people (inside the story & readers/watchers of the series) forget that the Arryns are Andals. They were kings for many generations, that I think the history of them were lost and/or forgotten, and now the real first men are treated the same way that the wildlings north of the wall are treated - like they don't belong.
@@angie-tq4ew You mean, except in the North ^^
But I think they're treated like that mainly because they choose to live as barbarians.
The bigger your family network, the better.
robin arryn... best glow up of GoT
Finally all the great houses are analysed, my life is complete.
Love it! Thank you for partially redeeming a house that sounds so cool, but has such disappointing people living there.
Ur GOT stuff is literally the best!
I love the Arryns. They're like the Ravenclaws of Westeros--so pretentious, proud, and elitist.
Not so much I think. LF is a Slytherin and Lysa is a muggle
What Lysa didn’t know is that every hint of his entire being pointed to Robin being weak and sickly, which in the world of Ice and Fire made him indestructible.
Lysa falling through the Moon Door I can watch over and over and over 😈
Do House Tully next!!!
The Black Fish is such a badass.
ALONE
@Laverne Blaszczyk lol don't blame him. Blame the writter for his fate lol. 🤣🤣🤣
So happy these videos are back.
Hopefully House Tully comes next.
YESSSS just what iv been begging for!!!
As much as i have loved GoT i'll admit that some of these facts from the first season sort of faded from my memory. Seeing all of this now layed out in the video, one could argue that Littlefinger alone was the catalyst that jump started the events of the war and the conflicts of the show since season 1.
****Before continuing - The Night is Dark and full of Spoilers****
Ned Stark going to and then dying in Kings landing jump started the rise of the northern rebellion which directly caused the deaths of Robb and Cat, the misery of Sansa and Arya, and the usurpation of Winterfell by the Boltons.
All of this and more because Littlefinger had Lysa poison Jon Arryn.
i love how house arryn always stayed neutral
I have two, do house tully and house forrester. Pls
Please do House Tully, House Clegane, House Reed, Dothraki, Wildlings, and Bastards next!!
I feel like House Arryn is a house that has badass soldiers but poor leaders (except for Jon Arryn).
Who else knew that House Stark was once at war with House Arryn over a bunch of islands and that a Bolton made his tent out of the flayed skins of Vale men?
Nobody:
The Take(previously ScreenPrism): Sir Pounce Symbolism
I feel like the entire Vale got neglected. We never really saw anything of they’re house (anything of interest anyway). We never really saw the Vale even though the Knights of the Vale are famed warriors. It’s just kinda sad.
i've been waiting for this video!
I always get so excited when I see a new video from this channel 😍😍😍
I honestly think Robin's growth was stunted due to poor nutrition. Once he started eating properly and being treated age appropriately intellect wise he would be alright.
Jon still haven't bent the knee and if he has then every house in the north will forsake him and probably make Sansa queen so no the vale doesn't serve the targaryens. Just pointing that out
Loving this series!
It is idiotic to present crooked Lysa TULLY as example of arryns' false honor
One more fact about falcons: they are predators.
@1:39, "since Jon is presented as this faultless beacon of integrity."
While I'm thinking: "that helmet really looks like Griffith's."
Robin Arryn is clearly Littlefinger's natural son. They never say so, but I think it's pretty obvious. . .
Please do Nightswatch,Free folk, Dothraki, and Sellswords
