  • @KeishaBeTraveling I am on a 3 month adventure around Mexico. It is my first week in Merida Mexico after living in Playa del Carmen for a year. The street of Merida are super lonely so come with me as I do a walking tour of the city center, join a black owned fitness studio and do a hop on hop off bus tour with Turibus to get familiar with the city.

Haven't finished watching any of your vids yet, but I hit 'SUBSCRIBE' on the sole basis of you speaking Spanish! I'm a novice learner and am encouraged by those who speak and/or make the effort to learn. Good on you, it's inspiring!

Thanks so much love! I am so happy you are learning and feeling inspired. Keep practicing and you’ll get there. It is so important to learn the language to be able to communicate with the locals. I started this vlog to be able to show some of those conversations and experiences with local Mexicans. I get to have a completely different experience and make tons of Mexican friends because I speak Spanish. It’s so helpful

We attempted to speak Spanish (thanks mostly to Duolingo) during our last trip to Central MX. Despite hearing about all the extranjeros in parts of GTO, nearly all of our interactions were in Spanish. We saw tourists but most seemed to be from other parts of MX.
People were extremely patient with us, and we're SO very grateful. I think and learned that next time... we need to be a bit more learned on Mariachi standards. A couple times we were approached and asked to make a song request... and we were caught off-guard and had to apologize and ay we are traveling and not familiar yet.
Getting there, un poco a un poco!

@@keikofay9804 Good for you for trying and also for continuing to learn with Duolingo. You are so right. In Central Mexico, you will mostly hear Spanish and that was similar to my experience in CDMX. A lot of the Mexicans I come across are visiting from other parts of Mexico as well. I’m so glad that people have been patient especially when they notice your efforts. Keep practicing and you’ll continue to get better the more you do it. Poco a poco 💕

Merida is awesome. 21st safest city in the world in 2019. I am from Canada and live in Merida and feel much safer here versus back home in Canada.

That’s so cool! I didn’t know it was ranked 21st in the world. I’m glad you are enjoying it. I’ve been living in Playa del Carmen for the last year and def feel much safer in Mexico than in the US too. In Playa, it I feel like I live on the Vegas strip so it felt weird seeing empty blocks and walking around late at night by myself in some parts of Merida without seeing people for blocks and blocks.

Muchas gracias 💖 I'm so glad you are enjoying it and yessss a Black woman owned fitness studio. I was so hyped when I found it. They have the best classes. I'm going to share some more soon. I even did a cool West African dance class there. I have two more Merida episodes coming soon.

Thanks for sharing! I just got back from Belize last week, and we're already thinking about our next vacation. Me gustaría visitar Merida algun día.

No hay de que. I'm glad you are enjoying it. The colonial architecture in Merida is super amazing. It might be a good stop to add if you are visiting Chitzen Itza in the Yucatan. How was Belize? It's been on my list forever.
