Hey guys, Tampa here. Planning a trip in April 2025 for a couple of weeks, and do my research on the pros and cons of living in Merida. As most of the comments I read say it depends on your lifestyle. Mine life is pretty simple, don't spend where I don't need too, and just a quiet guy wanting OUT OF THE USA !! Thanks for the video, very informative with some good planning ideas.
Thanks for the realistic calculation, something which many other channels fail miserably to provide. You're leading an upper-middle-class lifestyle there (at least as far as your accomodation goes, with the pool, staff, etc.), and that's not going to cost less than $3K a month in Merida with rent and recreation included.
That is for watching! 👩🏼🧒🏻, we just want to be honest and real, that's why we aligned the Cost of Living information to our own lifestyle. Hopefully it's helpful to people who have a similar way of life and similar real estate goals. Cheers! 🥂🍾🍷
$145 mo for electricity would be a reduction for me of between $40 and $200 in July/Aug. My bill in the Northeast US is never below $180 with our 4 person household.
We’ve been in Merida for about 4 years and I’ve been how expensive is getting! I haven’t really added how much I spend a month… probably about same as you, although we also love eating out, because there are so many great restaurants!
Thanks for watching!👩🏼🧒🏻 Yes, it's true that costs are rising in Merida, but in many ways, Mexico still remains a better option financially, especially when you consider things like property taxes. Property taxes here are significantly lower than what you'd typically pay in other countries. Plus, even with some of the increased costs, you can still enjoy a higher quality of life at a lower overall cost, and beyond the financial savings like lower property taxes, there's also the intangible value of safety. Feeling secure in your day-to-day life adds immense value 🙌🙌 For the restaurants, what can we do 🙈! It's hard not to go out! The restaurant scene is great in Merida 🤙🙌

Hey guys, looking to move her ein the next 6 months or so and i have seen people sya in other videos not to own. About the grocery bill... do you regularly shop at the more expensive grocery stores? I've seen your Chedraui & Costco videos, and I saw in a comment that you like to eat fancy. I'm just wondering if these are your normal, everyday grocery haunts, or if one could expect a somewhat lower monthly grocery expenditure if one shopped at Super-Aki, Soriana and the produce markets? Just trying to get a feel. My partner and I don't eat anything particularly fancy, however, I do know that I'll be homesick for certain foods, (Costco, here ww come! Lol). I guess what I'm really asking is if 900 would be average for the average couple, or if your bill is higher than most because of what you prefer to eat and where you prefer to shop.

By the way, if you own a property in California, we don't think the property tax is affordable.

Meghan and Noe, Thank You! US$1,520.00 excluding housing. It's not what I pay, it's what my money buys. You mentioned that food was priced similar to to Canada/US. Perhaps, BUT there is a huge difference between the quality of food sourced at Wal-Mart, etc, vs the local grown, NON-GMO produce and meats that is not blasted with preservatives and pesticides. Nor are the pastures treated with pesticides. That is why people that can afford to buy from Sprouts, Wholefood/WholePaycheck buy their food at those establishments.😊
You're absolutely right! Wholefoods are indeed available in Mérida, Mexico too. We're planning to make a future video about it, so stay tuned. Thanks for the suggestion 👩🏼🧒🏻🙌🙌

Is there some assumed relationship between USD and the peso? Do you really pay your bills in us dollars? I live on and off in Mazatlan and all my bills are in pesos. The exchange rate has had a serious impact on the actual cost to me. Pre-covid I paid 24/1 and less than a year ago the peso had risen to 16.8/1. Exchange rates matter unless you are paying in USD

$900 USD per month for groceries?!😮 We don't even spend that as a family of 4 + 3 dogs. That's like 3.5 months' worth of groceries including dog food & paper products.
Isn't amazing how affordable life is when government is not involved?! I believe Mexican citizens will be disappointed when the learn that the increase in the federal minimum wage is increase inflation which will result in higher consumer prices!
The effects of minimum wage laws are complex and depend on a variety of factors. It is important to weigh the potential benefits and drawbacks carefully before making any changes. In the case of Mexico, the recent increase in the minimum wage is intended to help workers keep up with the rising cost of living. However, it is possible that it could also lead to inflation, like you said. Only time will tell what the long-term effects will be 👀
Oh, baby. We are aware and we are more than disappointed 🙃... The inflation started in 2017. You wouldn't know it because you don't live here as I have, that's okay but don't take us for fools. The government IS involved and the reality is that there's no equality in the city. I'm a local, bilingual and yes it's getting tough getting the food with these prices, considering that the locals get paid way less money. I'm not here to spread hate, but just to wish you the best and enjoy our city as much as you can. Or at least, what's going to be left of it. Peace.
Thanks to you two those prices won't be staying like that for much longer. You don't go blabbing a good thing and expect to stay that way Apparently, you two don't really care, because you both are invested.. Investors like you both, screw up the economy, stay quiet.

That is the exact cost it is for California except food is alot cheaper here with all the farmers markets and cheap rent in the central valley, its your food cost. So, Isa the sama.
@@MysticFogGarden thanks for watching 👩🏼🧒🏻, yup we spend a lot in high-end food, but there are lots of good and cheaper options in: tianguis (mexican street markets), tiendas de abarrotes (mexican convenience stores), tiendas de frutas (mexican fruit convenience stores) and slow food markets too.
By the way, if you own a property in California, we don't think the property tax is affordable.
Food is much for 2 people $900. is that fancy high end restaurants & groceries?
Thanks for watching Lucy! 👩🏼🧒🏻 We like fancy groceries ☺️☺️, french cheese, etc., but for sure, there is a way to get cheaper groceries in: street markets, regular mexican markets, convenience stores...etc🪇
Meghan and Noe,
Thank You!
Thanks for sharing, you guys are awesome. You cover so many different costs of living aspects where other content creators completely fail to share. We guess that your experience living full time in Merida gives you guys valuable information about how upper middle class people live there. We like living life just like you. Congratulations guys 👏 great channel.
Thanks for watching!
Rent/Mortgage, savings/investments, car payment (if you don't buy with cash)/maintenance and entertainment are additional expenses to consider budgeting for if anybody's seriously considering this move. Awesome video of your cost of living breakdown though, love Merida :)
Thanks for watching 👩🏼🧒🏻🙌🙌
There's a lot of entertainment for free too (cultural events, art galleries, parks, etc). Yup, there's stuff to consider, pros and cons everywhere. We have been happy in here so far 😌
Most people pay cash for a home in Mexico and getting a loan, financing or mortgages are harder to get.
Don't know what you eating but food should be $300 to $400 per month and that's expensive , got to go local markets and cook on your own
@@wg6377 thanks for watching! 👩🏼🧒🏻. Yup, we eat very chic honestly. Actually we cook a lot on our own, but yes, we will start to go more to local markets 😃
Wow!!!! $145 A MONTH for electricity! We own a whole apartment building in the Lake Chapala area (which is not a cheap part of Mexico) and for the whole building we pay less than $7 for the whole building and we use AC .. We have solar panels
Thanks for watching guys. Yup, we live in a stand alone house with lots of electronics connected ☺️☺️ . still don't have no solar panels, it's our next project. Cheers 👩🏼🧒🏻
@@MeghanNoeYucatanLiving Hopefully you get solar panels soon!
@@chasingtheAmericanDream will do! ☺️
Same
We have a really big colonial house in Merida and solar panels are about 200,000 pesos and then you have zero light bill !
Are you living in what’s considered uptown Merida?
Thanks for watching! 👩🏼🙌🧒🏻🙌. We live in Merida Centro (downtown), the colonial style houses area.
Canada is competing on phones now... at least if you go with Freedom Mobile. 3GB full speed, and then unlimited slow speed after, good in all 3 countries is $20 Canadian.
👩🏼🧒🏻Thanks for watching Gregg! That's good to know! Thanks for sharing.
I'm just glad the US Dollar is back to 20 pesos. That's extremely helpful for me living in Merida.
Thanks for watching Alan! It's great news isn't it? 🕺💃🚀
can you Purchase a decent home for $250K?
Absolutely. Let's book a video call www.meghanandnoe.com
We travel frequently internationally, but we are planning on selling everything in Cancun and eventually and living between Progreso and Merida. The airport is concerning me however because we fly internationally frequently for vacations I mean once a month.😨 we are really looking forward to exploring Merida. We do not know it at all.!!!
Thanks for watching! 👩🏼🧒🏻 Oh, that's fabulous. We have great options in the Merida-Progreso area and also an agent in Cancun that can help you sell those properties. Hey, here is our WhatsApp, send us a message and let's talk more about your plans so we can assist you👇: bit.ly/3SFJC8g
Have been contemplating moving to Merida from Cabo. Cabo very expensive. But I have 2 little boys.. your food is pretty high I feed my family of 4 in Cabo for 900 month.
Thanks for watching!👩🏼🧒🏻🪇🪇
Yes. It is just that we don't have kids and spend a lot on gourmet stuff (French cheese, wine, etc). But for sure, there are mexican convenience stores, tianguis (Street markets), cheaper supermarkets, etc. for a free consultation about your needs 🤩 let's have a video call!: www.meghanandnoe.com/ecard
We have a lot of rental properties in Cancun and we just bought a gorgeous colonial house in Merida and I noted that it has solar panels and zero light bill. We are very excited to be going there. We have been on the beach in Cancun since we moved here when I was 25 from Canada and we most certainly found it to be far less expensive then Cancun
That's good to know! We are glad you love Mexico! And welcome to Merida, top rated as the 2nd safest city in the Americas! 👩🏼🙌🧒🏻🙌
@@MeghanNoeYucatanLiving I have been living on the beach in Cancun for 28 years and I am sick as hell of the freaking corruption here I am buying an amazing house a colonial three bedroom in the center of Merida and I’m going to live happily ever after there are huge contrast between here and there, and I’m giving up life on the beach in order to have peace
@@michelleh6533 very good Michelle! We feel so glad you are in the buying process of buying a house in Merida Centro (colonial). We wish you a smooth and easy transaction and a happy life here. It's a great town.

Hello, I'm a Mexican-American living in USA, I'm trying to convince my husband about moving to Mexico (when the time comes), could you share your website with me, Please? Gracias!
Hola Alma! Buenos días!
Thanks for watching 👩🏼🧒🏻, that's great! we have a lot of mexican american clients, make sure to tell your husband is better to buy sooner than later and make a plan, before prices increase. What if we hop on a video call and talk more about your ideas and needs.

Merida is amazing i go there every few months. I live in TX grew up in NJ. Never been anywhere safer than Merida
@@alexgomez9340 thanks for watching. Yup, everything you say is true 💯
Hello Johnny, thanks for watching 👩🏼🧒🏻. We always pay for everything in Mexican pesos 🇲🇽, we just made the USD conversion so everyone will understand it easier. And, yup, we know, we live kind of a lavish life 🙈🫠☺️
I LOVE Selecto Chedraui! We are ironically going to Costco and Selecto Chedraui tomorrow 😂 🙌
Very cool guys! They are our favourites! Hope you have a great trip down here!🙌👩🏼🧒🏻🙌
Coincidence. Well, we all have to eat💕
$900 grocery? 2 of us eat very healthy with high end foods for $150 or less a week in the U.S. including misc.
@@rampar77 Thanks for watching! Where do you live? That sounds like a good deal at $600 a month. Thanks for sharing 😊
My family of 3 spend 500 a month on groceries……we shop at sprouts and Whole Foods how tf is it more expensive there?!
@@MIKExMASSACREx thanks for watching Mike 👩🏼🧒🏻, we talked about our OWN Cost of Living only, to be honest we like a lot of gourmet stuff ☺️. We go most of the time to Costco and prices are literally the same like in US/Canada, but yeah, there are other options to find cheaper food too, like street markets (tianguis) and small convenince stores.
@@MeghanNoeYucatanLiving what about eating out and steeet food? Is that still cheap in Merida? I remember it being very cheap when I was staying in Oaxaca
@@MIKExMASSACRExHello Mike 👩🏼🧒🏻 yes, street food can be a very affordable option, though Yucatán's street food differs a lot from Oaxaca's and even options found in central Mexico. As Far as restaurants, they range from tacos to fine dining, so some are super affordable and some experiences cost the same as restaurants in Canada and the US. Options here exist for every budget and taste! It's a very diverse city.
jajja. I Love Nacho 🐕
@@VaneMonroe we love him too! That is for watching!👩🏼🧒🏻🤗
Wow , food $$ no way flip it it's like rent
Thanks for watching! 👩🏼🧒🏻. Yup we need to go more to local markets ☺️, working in that.
Without visiting Merida and living in Guadalajara for more than 2 years, I would say that Merida is overrated and 🔥🥵. Low crime is great but it is not ideal if you're looking for much nicer temperatures and possibly more bang for your buck. Please explore more of Mexico before you get caught up in the hype of Merida. Merida is 🔥🥵🔥🥵.
@@sesomnoslen5729 thanks for watching!👩🏼🧒🏻, for us safety is first. Explore Merida from October to April (cooler season). But yeah, Mexico is a great country worth exploring. Hey!, we love Guadalajara's "tortas ahogadas", delicious!👌

Only time will tell what the long-term effects will be 👀
I live in Mexico and I take an exotic vacation every month of the year. Come home to the beach. Life is a lot better here
Peace.
@@michjinks we love Mexico too👩🏼🧒🏻🫶
Thanks to you two those prices won't be staying like that for much longer. You don't go blabbing a good thing and expect to stay that way
