Oh my gosh not just pre-med. how do you expect to handle being anything above a Freshman???? My Junior year as a music ed major I was at 19 hours, with 3 separate in-class practicums with local schools, taking voice AND piano lessons (which culminate in a jury, aka a short performance in front of music staff to be graded for the semester of progress/work…it’s a lot lol), all while working 2 part time jobs…..and finished with all As and a C (I suck at piano). She’s gonna struggle at LIFE lol
she’s going to make a career out of being a student

This is what bugs me the most about "pet parents". I ask my former friends/co-workers/friends who have pets? - Do you have pet insurance, emergency fund for surgery and stable income if you're a pet parent? People are so confused when I'm asking them their financial literacy and ability to take care of another living being.
I haven't had a pet since I was 17, but I care about these pet's health more than of their owners - it's quite sad.
I have stable income, good savings, healthy retirement savings (401k/Roth IRA), brokerage accounts, HYSA, relatilvely high credit score - I choose not to have a pet due to my current work schedule. Although, I could easily afford a pet, and their emergency, but I don't want to neglect my pets since I've been working 60 hours/week lately.
In my scenario, it's about income, it's about time and not neglecting these pets. So many of these guest often neglect their finances and eventually harms their pets.
Pets are a need for me, always have been, always will be! I promise just because you are asking someone about their finances and how they plan to pay for their pet that does not = loving their pet more than them lol. (Good) Pet owners will bend over backwards for their little ones - no matter how financially irresponsible it may be.

If you agree with the above, then sure, apply the same reasoning for pets. But I often see that there's a massive double standard.
Pet costs are very variable depending on their health. What doesn't change is that they require a significant time investment too.
Many people have indirect health benefits (dogs, you end up spending more time outdoors and walking, or even running depending on breed) and mental health benefits. Those have a value.

If you can sit and listen and not speak, it means you have control over your thoughts and you think before you speak. Very important if you're a doctor and diagnosing a patient, you wouldn't just ramble while they were providing you information.
Yeah she’s certainly not. Now while these comments would probably feel hurtful at first I do hope she reads them and gets some insight into her own abilities. There are plenty of healthcare jobs that are not doctor that she could still help people but would be more in line with her cognitive abilities and personal characteristics.
My dad is unemployed. has been unemployed for 3 years. Sits around the house not doing anything except watching. Doesn't clean his dishes. The wares of the entire kitchen literally eventually just get stacked up in his room until my brother goes in and cleans them. For all intents and purposes, he's a roommate exactly like this girls.
That hasn't stopped me from meal prepping with groceries for the last 2 years. I MIGHT eat fast food once every 6 months, MAYBE. I've lost 120 lbs over that last 2 years meal prepping.
If you want to improve your life, you can. But if you make up excuses for why you can't, you never will.

Holy shit dude I started meal prepping a few months ago and it was a total game changer. I get all of my macros and nutrients in without the urge to run to qdoba everyday because I have yummy food ready, and it’s literally faster to just heat it up and cheaper to make a three day meal plan than to run to a fast food place for one meal.

I mostly eat chicken, salmon, veggies sautéed in olive oil, and Greek yogurt. At 198 lbs, targeting 180 or less over the next year, I aim for a minimum of 150 gr of protein daily.
I buy flash frozen salmon fillets and precooked/pre measured chicken fillets from Sam’s Club, which makes portion/binge control and macro tracking much easier while minimizing cook/prep effort.
No sugar, almost not carbs.
I’m not diabetic, but I came to my own independent conclusions based on my own research that these are the main food groups you want to focus on for simultaneous muscle gain and weight-loss. I only realized within the past couple months this is a desired diabetic diet after my dad was diagnosed T2 a couple months ago. Who would have thought sitting on your butt all day and sucking down cans of Coke for 3 years would result in T2? /s.
But, biologically speaking, many of the same mechanisms that exacerbate weight gain also exacerbate blood sugar levels and the resulting T2 diabetes, since the two things are closely related and driven by many of the same factors.

I know Fabletic's isn't an MLM but I've heard horror stories about how MLM subscriptions and companies like them are almost impossible to cancel the moment they get your card information. It absolutely kills me every time there’s a guest on the show who has VA benefits from their parents and they either use the dumb way and take out student loans or just squander it entirely. VA benefits will pay for 100% of your school if you leverage everything properly, and that’s before you even get the housing stipend.
As someone who’s from a country with universal healthcare I need to say this… You don’t realize that prices aren’t the only issue. Sure, universal healthcare is cheaper in general but then you have to wait for certain tests for YEARS. For example, my friend was scheduled for a head MRI for 5 years after her appointment because everything was booked. One woman’s son was scheduled for a test for 2034!!!! And he won’t even qualify then anymore because he won’t be a child at that point. So you either wait and possibly die while waiting if it’s something serious or go to a private clinic and pay a lot of money, which is basically what’s happening in the US where I never had to wait for anything longer than a week. I agree with Caleb, it’s much more complicated than just finances.

Accidents happen. Once I fell from a second floor, while working alone, and had a 2” long cut in my leg. Lucky me I didn’t cut anything major (like an artery).
I sat down, ripped my shit, cut a couple pieces, tied around my leg and stooped the bleed.
I this case, I wish I could go to a clinic and get some stitches, but it is just too expensive.
My point is, simple things and up to 25 years old should be free.

Hospitals are bound by the federal government by a law called EMTALA that prohibits hospitals from refusing to treat someone due to not being able to pay. As someone who works in healthcare I can reliably tell you that the emergency room physician has no idea what you do or do not have for insurance. They sent you home because you didn't have a medical condition that required immediate treatment.

Most of my premed friends are graduating and taking 1-3 years off and I genuinely think it’s worth it to do so. Especially when you’re already chugging so hard :)

I had a friend like this. He said he had terrible knees, the reason why he was overweight. A doctor supposedly said he would need surgery to live with the pain.
I got him into dance dance and dance dance like games. Surprising how all his knee pain goes away for those games.
My other friends and I convinced him to start taking care of himself. He went to a knee specialist. They told him he didn’t need knee surgery. The reason his knees hurt was because his legs were so weak.
He’s completely healed now.

@@alex96super loved dance dance revolution growing up. Gained weight and tried to do it more to work it off. I have a family history of bad knees and I just can't. Maybe if I lose to weight but I probably need to get a cushioned floor pad along with a foam mat to even have a chance.
@@amn1088 Well get your knees checked first. I’ve known quite a few over weight individuals. A lot of their knee problems was due to weight or lack of muscle.
A different friend started a new job where his average miles went from 2-3 miles a day of walking to 7+ miles. He ended up losing 20 lbs. in a span of three months. Unfortunately he gained it all back because he just loves to eat. Had extra money in his pockets to buy fast food. Fortunately he doesn’t have any debt.

I've noticed a pattern of guests saying they're not as bad as other ppl. Today, I listened to a podcast on Huberman (neuroscience podcast) that talked about fixed vs growth mindset and the guest mentioned that fixed mindset ppl typically look down at other ppl in order to make themselves feel better about their current situation, vs growth mindset ppl will look up to see where they could be doing better. BUT, he also said there are exercises ppl can do to help change that mindset, so it makes me wonder if your guests would benefit from that type of mental work
I think that's *lowkey* one of the problems with binging this show. I love it, don't get me wrong, but it's so easy for me to watch financial disaster after financial disaster and say "Dang, at least I pay my minimums... at least I don't eat out so much..."
I went to vet school and worked 2 jobs because I had to in order to survive. If this girl can’t even handle 12 hours at a community college, I can guarantee she will never make it in med school.

There is no way she will be able to manipulate her way into medical school. The fact that she is taking 12 credit hours and not working part time is a big red flag to medical schools. She doesn't have the excuse of having to work while also being a parent to explain why she only took 12 credit hours at a time.

Unfortunately, due to having mental health issues for 10+ years, chronic insomnia & fibromyalgia I've had a lot of unwanted experience with the British health care system (NHS). Our health care system is failing by the day & more people are paying privately. I was on a waiting list for over 4 years to have the MRI scan to officially diagnose fibromyalgia. They wouldn't give me the necessary medication during the waiting period so I spent over 4 years in absolute agony daily. Someone I know with the same health condition paid privately for an MRI scan and was diagnosed within 3 months. The NHS or other systems like ours aren't always better 😔

Also depends on how high up those classes are. Some require study halls through out the week and with medicine there are also internships and shadowing opportunities that you have to take advantage of

@@kungfoochicken08 I know, but if school hasn't come easily to her then she'll require more study hours. I believe the suggestion was half the class hours towards studying per day and half the class hours towards homework per week. So adding it together 12hrs in class, 6hrs for homework, 42 for studying, 60hrs total. You can probably do less for the lower level classes, but if school doesn't come easy then you'll need every bit of that time, especially if you've never had to study before. Some of that may be inperson study groups that you have to commute to as well. I have to add in that she doesn't really have the option to drop out of a class or withdraw to avoid a bad grade due to her VA stipend. Through that one you have to pay them back the amount for the course if you withdraw or drop, so its unwise and unadvised to work while taking those courses due to the increased risk to your grades.
The thing that upsets me the most is when people who aren't financially responsible are out here getting pets :(
Honestly it has always irritated me. People who complain and struggle to take care of themselves but think getting a pet that costs a lot of money to take care of properly is a good idea. I feel for the poor pets because they're the ones who suffer.

You've risen to fame very fast and you care about people, and so you must not forget to put yourself first sometimes.

When she mentioned the roaches in the microwave, I felt that. I had a terribly dirty kitchen at one point where I stopped using it and ate out way too much. My mom told me “fix the problem, don’t live with that anxiety.” And I cleaned my damn kitchen and I feel so much better. It sucks but yeah, clean the kitchen.

Yeah, I worked 20hrs per week in addition to helping my mother out at home, having a second job at the university (I went to careers fairs and schools to talk to kids about the uni) and doing the maximum amount of subjects I could each semester at university... still had time for hobbies, friends and a boyfriend.
My husband did Army Reserve during his university degree and is now law enforcement. He works hard long hours, is incredibly involved at home and makes time for friends and hobbies.

Exactly. I worked at the same theme park and they encourage water intake because it's Texas and people get heat related illnesses. They just want you to keep water nearby and not constantly leave your work area.

People work throughout medical school… drive for Uber/lyft or guest bartend or online paid reviewer etc. I went to medical school and I knew of people who worked even during clinicals… she won’t be able to do that because she is incapable and lazy unless she wants to do an OF. She also won’t make it into medical school

I was also a premed Neuroscience major. I switched gears my senior year now I am about to start a PhD program instead. Regardless, I spent years tailoring my resume to medical school. Girl, without any medical experience, you will be hard pressed to find a program that will even look at your application. It's not impossible, but it doesn't sound like you have anything else that makes you a good candidate.
I worked during my entire degree as a med tech/CNA at retirement homes and hospice centers. They will often pay very well, give flexible schedules, and pay for your training. I had thousands of qualifying clinical hours and paid my rent while in school. It would also give you experience working with a large portion of your patient pool, the elderly with neurodegenerative diseases. If that sounds too hard/not interesting to you, med school probably just isn't the path for you. It is very intensive and grueling, and the work-life balance after school is not much better. Really really sit with your thoughts and go to career events at your school. There are other career paths in science that do not require 6 figure loans and 8-12 years of school.

@calebhammer CNA certs take less than 1 month to get and often facilities are willing to put you through the training on their dime. Many facilities will hire part-time, nightshift, per diem, etc. Just a suggestion for the medical career oriented students who come to you!
CNA would be a great option. Nursing homes are always desperate for weekend help.

I have been following Caleb for a years now I recently made the decision to fix my financial situation and followed his advice and I am debt free and close to having a fully funded emergency fund. The relief of stress of my finances has been life changing.

Hey, as someone who had searing pain start randomly in my early 20s, and ended up in the hospital for a "burst appendix" (it might have been but they never found it), and was told I have lots of inflammation, It was Crohns disease. Medicated now years later and feel fantastic. If she see this, it's something to look into.
